Well, from what I've gathered, they don't enforce it. I created a mule and used shortkeys to see what would happen. Nothing did. I'll post back when i try it more often. By the way, I am not who the username says. :rolleyes1 .

What is shortkeys?
I guess I do not do that since I do not know what that is?

Always ask a question , make your mind a sponge. :teeth: pirate: and wear a nice hat to go with it.

Shortkeys is a special program that you can download on your computer in order to use simple phrases to type long sentences.

Say you have programmed, ll= Welcome to Everest: Launch! Prepare to blast off.

Now, when you go on VMK, if you type ll, it will be replaced by the above sentence. However, this is only supposed to be used for game rooms and trade rooms, because entering codes with this makes the server check the code too fast, resulting in more disconnections. In game rooms and trade rooms, the only difference is that it reads the line of type. Just as usual, it checks for bad words in the encrypted text. If you put in, say letters in your Shortkey, you will not be allowed to say it even though you did use Shortkeys.

Explanation Complete

where can i get this program this could have helped with MGM, i felt like a NPC lol

Hmm. Below is what used to be in the VMK FAQ but if you look now, they've changed it so I'm not sure what that means. Here is what it used to say though:

Q: Can I use a program to help me enter my Codes faster?
A: Scripting, which includes any programs or utilities that use scripting capabilities to perform rote tasks (ie: entering codes), is a violation of the VMK Values. Any player caught using ANY scripting program may be banned. We allow exceptions for Players using a scripting program to repeat helpful texts used to run a game or assist players, provided the tool is not over-used to the point that it floods the chat window and makes it hard for others to chat.

I think the whole "No shortkeys" thing is more of a "dont enter 500 codes in 10 minutes" thing really. It stil irks me, but I do believe it is relly that. Caused by Narnia of course. When you have 2 or 3 hundred players entering 100 codes all at the same time in record speed, that will cause a server lag. It isnt shortkeys doping it per se, it is the fact that you are entering codes so fast and so often that the server does not have time to catch itself.

Just because you did not get caught this time, doesnt me someone else wont get caught another time.

Laurabearz: They cannot detect when you use ShortKeys, not at all, the only thing they can detect is rapid entry of text such as codes, and then it is only after sending the text to them. The detect nothing until you hit enter or ok. The way they have "caught" people before is by seeing the multiple "OK"s sent to the server from the code redemption section.

I understand that, but the OP seems to say that using shortkeys is fine... and I did not want someone to mis read it and use it for codes and get in trouble.

With that said, I use short keys for codes. But I dont fire in a million codes, I enter 2 or 3, heck I use it when I have to enter ONE code it. Reason.... I have a hard enough time typing words that make sense to my brain, let alone jumbled letters and numbers. It takes me 2 or 3 trys to enter in a code if I hand type it in... also 90% of the codes I write down, as appose to cutting and pasting, are wrong. This is all due to my dyslexia. It took me years to learn to type, and I am very good at brain to keys typing, prolly close to 80 words per minute (with lots of typos... lol) but reading something and having to type it, I have to hunt and peck. The brain is an interesting organ.

I am also grateful for short keys for Stitch hat information....

You get the stitch hat by booking and Paying for a trip to DLR online.
You get the hat, pin, and blue travel box with the set.

:thumbsup2

Hmm.. I wonder who this could be? I'm pretty sure I know, but only because if I'm right we had a conversation about this in the past 24 hours! :teeth:

I think the quoted VMK rule explains it pretty well, that shortkeys are
allowed in certain circumstances, like hosting a game.

But if you do enter a lot of codes using shortkeys, they probably can
catch you and would ban you. Laura's been only doing a few at a time,
so she probably isn't going to get the Big White Glove after her.
But entering dozens of codes in one sitting will tip them off.

In regards to the above statement... Well I was tracked down and warned of my quick fingers. They found me in a private room trading to my main. all the sudden my door was moved by a friendly folk in green and my mule approached for their speed in entering codes. All I saw was IP ban, but luckily got away with a warning.

So they are tracking you down, depends on quantity and speed of entry I think.

Well, in addition to this, if you are a very fast typist, they will ban you for that too. I often get the "Typing too fast" error, and I only type about 50 wpm

Except that the quoted rule is outdated. What is currently in the newsletter is:

Q: Can I use a program to help me enter my Codes faster?
A: Scripting, which includes any programs or utilities that use scripting capabilities to perform rote tasks (ie: entering codes), is a violation of the VMK Values. Any player caught using ANY scripting program may be banned.

And that's it. Nothing about allowing it for games. Which is, to put it bluntly, stupid.

But, what was quoted was what was in the newsletter a couple weeks ago.

I think that they pretty much look the other way unless you're entering in lots of codes at one time.

That happens only if you type stuff and hit enter several times in a row in a certain amount of time.

Sort of like:

hi
how are you?
what's up?
idk
bye

It happens to me when I'm using mostly short sentences.

Incredibly. Almost like being able to charge for game rooms but not quests. I am neither condoning or encouraging the use of shortkeys for codes, just showing my findings.

It happens to me even with sentences a bit longer than that, like I said, I am pretty quick about some typing. And I consider myself rather slow. My mother can type 120 wpm with no errors.
