Cast:
Graham (Dad)- I'll ride anything with my eyes shut
Lyn (Mum) - Spiderman devotee
Clare (DD14)- Hands in the air and fly (she will go on any ride)
Phil (DS12) - Underwater expert ( see Popeye & Blutos Bilge Rat Barges)
David (DS8) - Still David, but now experiencing some of the real rides at last!
Yet another early start, up at 6:30 and down for breakfast by 7am (although signs of tiredness now beginning to show, ready for waterpark day tomorrow).
After yet another ample Hawthorn Suites dose of eggs, pancakes ,porridge & toast etc we boarded the van at 7:45, out of the hotel and follow the signs (nothing simpler??), but remember we have Phil as our navigator.Turn right came the cry , so we did several times in fact, and twenty minutes later we were back at the junction 100yds from our hotel.
Not to be outdone we set off again and by 8:30 we were pulling into the Jurassic park section of the car park.Walking to the park we commented on the fact that it was very quiet a fact which was bore out throughout the day with the maximum queue being no more than fifteen minutes.
Through the gates and straight to Spiderman, no queue at all, so we rode it five times in a row (without any wait) at which point dd Clare decided to head for Dr Doom, the rest of us then rode Spidey once more before going to look for Clare. We met up in the alleyway next to Dr Doom where Clare talked Phil into going on it. David in the meantime sat in the test seat at the entrance and practiced pulling faces as if he was on the ride.
Next we went on Stormforce and can only agree with other comments that this is basically an upmarket version of the teacup ride.
At this point I was kidnapped (in broad daylight) by two children who looked remarkably like Clare & Phil who dragged me into the Hulk waiting area (not even time to build up courage as yet again no queue). This time I was determined to show no fear??I would keep my eyes open for the whole ride, guess what I did it except that the fool who times the photos caught me at the exact time I blinked. But really folks this is some ride!.
Next we all all headed for Tidal sorry Toon Lagoon. After leaving Lyn on the bridge the rest of us headed for Ripsaw (you might get wet) Falls, tell you what the roof of that hut looks terribly low as you zoom underneath it.Dripping our way back to Lyn we decided to stop and watch the Beachparty where Popeye, Bluto, Olive oyl ,Woody Woodpecker and several others entertained us for twenty minutes or so.
Now for the first time this holiday Lyn (DW) decided to be brave and joined us in riding Popeye & Blutos ( you will get wet and possibly soaked) Bilge Rat Barges. AT THIS POINT I SHOULD WARN YOU THAT THE TRADE DESCRIPTION ACT SHOULD FORCE THEM TO REMOVE THE WORD POSSIBLY.
Onto the raft ,valuables placed under the central cover, we set off, it was during this ride that Phil sent a new world record for underwater endurance as he uner one source of water or other. In the drying out area a short time later the sanity of my family was once again called into question, when a Cm asked us if we would like to ride again we said yes (fools I hear you cry.)This time any remaining dry bits (and there were not many) were completely eradicated. The strange looks we got from tourists who had not yet been on the ride were a picture.
Taking our portable steam bath with us we slopped our way over to Jurassic Park where the only major queue we saw all day prevented DD & DS's from riding Pteranodon flyers, walking on we then arrived at the River of adventure and whats more until she saw the drop on a tv screen we almost got Lyn on it, so leaving Lyn behind the rest of us rode the ride, which was definately worth doing.
After stopping for a late lunch hotdogs etc we then went to have a look at the Triceratops encounter, if you've not done this , its worth doing just to see the animatronics used (if you did'nt know better you would think it was real). After a quick look at the Discovery centre we continued our trek over to the Lost Continent, where I watched whilst the rest of them rode the flying unicorn twice ( too tame for a seasoned veteran like me??????). Next those two strange children (kidnappers) returned this time dragging me onto the duelling dragons (fire) not to be outdone I rode with courage and occassionally eyes open (I do remember wondering at one point how my shoes kept on my feet).
Our next stop was the wonderful Sinbad show (I won't spoil it by giving you the story ) it really is worth seeing.
Before we left the lost continent we bought a bucket of rings at one of the sideshow stalls, believe it or not Phil actually put a ring round one of the bottlenecks winning a three foot Arabian nights version of Sylvester the Cat (just what we wanted?)
A TIP AT THIS POINT IF YOU WIN ANYTHING YOU CAN TAKE IT INTO ONE OF THE NEARBY SHOPS AND THEY WILL ARRANGE FOR IT TO BE TAKEN TO PACKAGE PICKUP
We then moved onto Seuss Landing where the colours have to be seen to be believed, this area consists of mainly family type rides, not least of which is the IOA equivelent of its a small world (before you all cry out this is only my opinion) Cat in the Hat .Worth riding once but definately
addictive ensuring that you end up riding several times.
The next hour or so was taken up by the other rides such as the CARO SEUSS EL and the musically mesmorising One fish two fish...
An extremely happy but tired Whittaker family then left the park, stopping only at Mickey D's before returning to the hotel where after a short cooling off swim we decided to have an early night in readiness for tomorrows vist to Blizzard Beach and Clares almost 15th Birthday party.
Next report to follow shortly
