That is not gray. It is sparkle.

:laughing: I will have to remember that next time I see my hair "sparkling!"

Alison and Fran, enjoy your trips!!

Glynis, good luck at the dentist today.

WFD: roasted sausages and grapes over polenta. It's a recipe in the newest Bob Apetit magazine.

I have pictures from the past couple of days to share.

Last Wednesday I made the Mario Batali "mock tripe" recipe. It uses eggs instead of tripe. We really liked it. It is good leftover too. I served it with a tomato-mozzarella salad, proscuitto, crusty bread and some olives:

Thursday I made sandwiches. This one is proscuitto, arugula, and brie:

Friday we had chicken milanese:

Saturday I made John short ribs which I served over mashed potatoes with spinach and a wild mushroom saute:

I had everything but the short ribs and topped with a poached egg:

Sunday I made pizzas to go with the Patriots game. Margarita:

That catches me up through the weekend, anyway!

Everything looks wonderful!

Hi my dear, dear friends. I have so missed not checking in with you everyday. As soon as the New Year is here I really hope to be back more regular. It is very busy in a Church the month of December and probably into the first couple of weeks into January, but after that it really settles down. So I have hope!!

Thank you all so much for the PM's, text messages and good thoughts and prayers for my family. I am so glad to say that everything is perfect. Liam is doing just wonderful. I try to go over every day - sometimes I just peek at him and other times I sit and rock him. He is so darn little - you forget just how little babies can be. We went over after church on Sunday and Doug held and talked to him for over an hour. He was finally awake, the little poop sleeps all the time. He has a checkup tomorrow so I will be glad to see how much he has gained.

I am as ready as I will be for Christmas. Matthew will be home tomorrow night - we can't wait. He has informed me that he is hunting every day. It will be good to just have him home for awhile. We are all getting together on Friday at my house, Saturday will be church with Doug's Dad and dinner at my SIL's and then on Christmas Day we will again have Church then dinner in Cozad. I am just like a little kid - I am so darn excited.

WFDT ~ Lemon Chicken, buttered noodles and stewed tomatoes.

Make it a great day everyone.

Ellen - I'm so glad to hear that Liam is doing well. It's funny that you forget about babies being so little. I figured that with Timmy I'd be so ready. After all, I'd done it 4 times before. However, the twins were barely 5 pounds each (so tiny), that when Timmy was born at 7 pounds, in my mind he seemed huge! However, he was really small. It's all relative, isn't it? I miss those baby days! I love just snuggling a new little one who just curls into you. The saddest day for me, was when Timmy stopped pulling his legs up under himself when I held him against my chest. :sad1:

Dinner tonight will be ranch pork chops, asparagus with hollandaise, and wild rice. It's just bitter cold here, and I need something to warm me up from the inside out!

Well, I'm all set for Christmas. The presents are all purchased, and with the exception of a Golden Snitch locket for Katie, they are all here, wrapped and under the tree. I'm a little worried about the locket, but we do have a back up present. We upgraded her cell phone (hers died, and we told her we couldn't get a new one until June, so she hasn't missed it). Alan programmed it with a ring tone she loves, and on Christmas morning, he'll call it while she's opening presents. I expect delighted squeals! If the locket comes before Saturday, great! If not, I'll give her the picture in a card so she'll know it's on the way.

Still got a lot of treats to make for neighbors. Today I'm making holiday pretzel treats (candy cane kisses on top of pretzels with m&m's on top.). These are my kids favorite, so I'm hoping a few of them make it to the neighbors! I also need to make several more batches of peanut brittle, and some fudge. Then, I'll call it done! We are delivering plates day after tomorrow, so after that I'll focus on my family's goodies!

David and I are on the train home and we have left over ribs for dinner tonight.

We have to pack tonight, we are flying out to Texas for Christmas to be with dad.

So i might a little hit or miss for the next week will not have my computer with me.

Ellen it is great to hear that liam is doing well and growing strong.

Glynis, sounds like you got a lot to do, good luck.

What a cool surprise for Katie!

I made fudge today too! But, none for neighbors. All for us. :lmao:

...served with cheesy polenta!

Ohhhhh la la! Looks divine!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm tired. :lmao:
Washed two dogs and a bathtub today. Did laundry. Made breakfast, lunch and dinner. Made fudge. And my back is going out from the dog baths. :headache:
I am done!!!!
Plus, for some reason, UncleR and I woke up at 4:45 this morning. :faint:
I hope tomorrow is more restful.
I'm going to go drown myself in fudge now. :hug: all around.
Finshed putting the lights up in the yard.:woohoo: We had almost everything out there except one string around the yard, ones in the big pine tree in the side yard and the candy cane lights. We couldn't find the light stick so the lights in the tree are in an interesting loopy pattern. :upsidedow
Awesome! I still have a fall wreath on my door :rolleyes1
Glad you survived the post office!
Tomorrow we leave for Vegas. We're not sure if we're going the whole way there or just to Stateline tomorrow. We'll decide when we get on the road and see how late it is.
I hope y'all have a GREAT trip!
Just found out that I get to go to the dentist tomorrow morning.
How was it? DH had to go this afternoon for similar stuff. I'm trying to use up flex spending $!
I'm so impressed by your Xmas organization! And can't wait to hear how the cell phone surprise goes over - be sure and video it!
Thank you all for your warm welcome. :love: I have always loved to cook but being alone now without my daughter grown and on her own and my wonderful Don gone :sad2:I just don't take the time. :confused: I do cook for my chruch some and I also cook for the sr dance :dance3: on Sat nights sometimes. I really only know how to cook BIG where you eat it for six weeks:guilty: Merry Christmas to all :santa:
WELCOME!!
I am standing here on the train into work and it feels so good to know that I will not be back until after Christmas.
:banana:
:yay:
I have pictures from the past couple of days to share.
Listen up, sister. You are disgustingly talented and other people need to be seeing these gorgeous plates of food. PLEASE get your rear over to blogspot and get a blog. Just make it a photoblog - no need to list all your recipes unless you just want to. Then you can easily link to both the Dis and FB, and others can drool over them too!
Glad you popped by - and are still among the living! :laughing: Last activity was today so I'm coasting until Sat nights service and Sun morning, neither of which I have a responsibility in. Weeee!
Another busy day - we had a "fun day" where the kids could come do XMas activities all day while mom/dad finished shopping, errands, cleaning, or napping :laughing: Had a great turn out but I stayed busy!
DH is picking up BBQ for us. I need to hit the store tomorrow.
Take.care of yourself....
Today I am making burgers and fries for dinner.
My hair is dark brown again! Woo hoo! I will post a pic as soon as I get a good one. It may be Christmas Day. I'm not very photogenic, lol.
Yeah, no kidding! I was considering starting a cooking blog myself, but every time I see her pictures, I say, "nah, can't do it." They are gorgeous shots and those kind of pics are ones I would want to see on that kind of blog, you know?
I'm intimidated, to say the least. :blush:
ETA: I just realized my hair already looks dark brown in that picture. Well, is kind of is. It was more of a reddish brown and I added the dark brown highlights about a month after the pic was taken. My Christmas card pic shows more of my hair color, so I hope that makes more sense. Anyway, I LOVE my hairdresser. She has the coolest way of helping you "keep your length" and give it a good healthy trim at the same time :)
Thanks for the photo compliments. I will have a blog soon. Laura is building it and we will be sharing it. It is mostly going to be cooking but also some travel stuff. But, as you all know, she has been insanely busy so I don't know when it is going to be ready to share. The design is done and some recipes and photos are loaded, but I haven't checked on the progress for a couple of weeks.
My sinuses are killing me today, argh!!
Glynis, I am impressed that you are all ready for Christmas! Not me! I have not started wrapping yet. Plus I am still waiting for Liam's big gift from Laura to arrive. Supposedly it will be to my house by Thursday, I hope so!
I did decide on Christmas dinner:
Standing rib roast
Twice baked potatoes
Cauliflower gratin
Green beans with buttered almonds
Roasted brussels sprouts
homemade dinner rolls
pecan pie for dessert
The next couple of days are going to be crazy busy for me. I have a wedding to attend tomorrow night, then Friday night will be wrapping everything. Saturday I have to go to my inlaws and then an aunt-in-law's house and then Sunday is Christmas!
WFD: not sure!
Becky- Sounds like a perfect Christmas dinner. Please wish Laura a Merry Christmas for me, I hope she gets a little time to slow down and enjoy it.
Lindsay- I don't think Becky's pictures should intimidate you, they should inspire you. If you do a blog, do it for yourself. Who cares if the pictures aren't perfect.
Glynis- Sounds like your going to have a great Christmas!
Ellen- So happy to hear the little guy is doing so well.
Jen- My dad is convinced he doesn't have gray hair, it's silver. My husband is starting to get some "sparkle" but I've opted to stop teasing him about it,don't want it to come back and bite me in the bum!
We ham for dinner last night and I think I'm going to use the leftovers to make scalloped potatoes and ham for dinner tonight. Have a great day all.
Feel better, hon. :hug:
I may or may not have some sparkle up front. Prematurely, if I do say so myself. I used to dye it to cover it up, until someone special :rolleyes1 told me I look distinguished and cute. Now I just leave it. :lmao: That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I slept till almost 9! :eek:

My back is out from washing the dogs yesterday, so today I will be taking it easy. So, no chores today. And dinner will be easy...we'll be having homemade pizza.

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!

I wish this week would slow down already! :headache: So much to do and not enough time to do it in, although half of my Christmas will be done next week. I am doing Christmas sometime next week with my BFF and her family and my Dsis and hers on New Years Eve.

Just have to buckle down and run full steam ahead until it's done. :thumbsup2

Not sure what all we are having for Christmas dinner, we go to my aunts house, but I make desserts other than the pies. And I am instructed by my cousins daughter that it has to be chocolate. :rotfl: I made a sour cherry ice cream for the last get together and she wasn't happy with me. :rolleyes1

I will make Paula Dean's Chocolate Gooey Butter Cookies, mini cream cheese chocolate tarts, Oatmeal Cookies with chocolate covered raisins in them, Muddy Buddy cookies and one or two other things, haven't decided yet.

Good morning, all! It's another gray, gloomy day here. The "good" news is that we are supposed to get some snow tonight, so I can stop listening to my kids whine about not having snow for Christmas!

My sister has offered a "cousin sleepover" tonight!!! Hooray!!! The 4 oldest kids will be there from noon today until about 11:00 tomorrow morning! I'm going to use the spare time wisely, and get all electronics charged for Christmas morning, make up neighbor plates, and do some reading... for fun!!! Alan is at work today until 7:00, so once he gets home, he and I are going to have a heavy duty talk about his mother, and her abilities... or lack thereof. I just don't think she's going to be able to stay at our house on Saturday, and I want to get all my concerns on the table. Cross your fingers that he'll see things my way, and we can talk some sense into his mom.

Dinner will be something easy! Since it will just be Alan, Timmy and me, we'll probably have soup and sammies.

Have a great day, everyone!

Oh, and Becky, I will definitely be subscribing to your blog whenever you and Laura get it up and running!

Mar~Good luck with the baking and I hope things settle for you.

Glynis~Enjoy your silence today (as if that ever really happens :rotfl:) and good luck with the chat. :hug:
