The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Menu change: I have the chicken roasting, but now it is a maple-bourbon glazed chicken with sweet potatoes and pecans going in the same pan. I will serve a salad with it, and my Mom brought me a half loaf of some french bread that she baked today.

Today has been a waste of a day....I spent 90% of it just laying on the couch. I even watched a movie and I never watch TV during the day. I hope I am not getting sick again! :headache:

Sometimes you just got to have one of THOSE days! I wish I could, but with 5 kids home all day, there is no way I get to do it! I'm glad you did it for me!

Becky-you deserve one of those days1

Donny did something tot he computer. He said that Skype was set to take up a lot of internet....at least that is what I think he said. he also said that i have a million animals on FB, have let them all walk and that I managed to crash his big crankin gamer computer.......when I asked him to harvest my poor little pigs adn chickens. He has no idea what I did to lose my posts. He left talking about some sort of user error kind of thing and he and Marisa were laughing at me.....good thing I was in a good mood!

Dinner was really good! I have not had spaghetti and fixin's for a long time!

Ellen - sounds like you have a fun day planned, enjoy!! Haggis is sheep organs (liver, heart, etc.) stuffed into a sheep stomach and cooked.

:crazy2:

Wow,that was deep and so not like me....I need to go lie down.

:rotfl:

Not a waste! Your body needs those days sometimes :goodvibes

I forgot to leave something out to thaw for dinner so we used a B1G1 free coupon and went to a local BBQ spot. I'm feeling a lot better and eating - just tired. I have a BUSY week this week so I hope I got this illness stuff out of my system!

I cant believe there is no love for the haggis.....:confused3

I thought youse guys were adventurous, innovative cooks !!

On a cauld hill side, bein hunted and chased by the English in nothin but a kilt Im sure a pigs insides were more than welcome...now me, I much prefer the vegetarian version !! ;)

I dont know why but Becky's post about calls from campaigner's reminded me of a something i meant to tell youse all.

There was a knock on our door early Christmas morning and I thought it was my mum but it was Jehovah's witness's.......Im sorry but I was very angry,I found it very disrespectful.

Lucky for them Santa had been good to me lightening my mood so I just smiled and said I was late for mass so couldnt talk.

I was born and raised Catholic and I respect every ones right to their god and religion and all I ask is the same back...........

BBL.....

I may be an adventerous cook, and eater but you can keep the haggis. :scared:

Didn't get much done today although I did get the fish tank filter cleaned. Can I just tell you, goldfish are dirty! Now I have a couple gallons of water sitting in the hopes that whatever is in it that is causing lime scale in the tank will evaporate out of it. I use the conditioner but that doesn't help.

Dinner tonight was crab legs.

Dinner was a total hit!!! I had to come post the recipe immediately!

Caramelized Pork Tenderloin

1 lb. pork tenderloin sliced into 1/2" slices
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 Tbs. brown sugar (I used the Splenda variety)
1 Tbs. orange juice
1 Tbs. molasses
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper

In a hot skillet, cook the pork until almost cooked through (about 6-8 minutes, turning during cooking time). Combine the rest of the ingredients, then pour them over the pork. Turn to coat. Let it cook and thicken and coat the pork.

This was really yummy!!! I made brown rice and a green salad to go along with it, and even the pickiest of my kids ate it.

Wendie - poor Ross. Glad he's got some good meds - I hope he's feeling better by the time you board the plane.

Glynis - glad you are feeling better. That pork sounds really good!

Lauren - great news on the house. Pixie dust pixiedust: that everything works out! for you, I'm glad you got to see your brother, sorry the news wasn't as good as you would have liked.

Vickie - I hope you have sufficiently recovered from your "deep" thoughts. And by the way, there's a difference between being adventurous and crazy. And I'm not that crazy!

Becky - I hope you're not getting sick - I agree with the others that everyone deserves some days like that. Your menu change sounds really good!!

Ya know, I had to think about this for a few minutes. I wasn't sure if you were referring to a real fish tank or one of those fake ones on fb.

Sometimes I wish it was a fake one. I have three goldfish, Goldie, Lunch and Fair and they are dirty little fishes! I named none of them by the way, all the ones that I did died. :rotfl:

I usually have to put in a gallon or so of water a week because of evaporation, depends on the air in the room and how much it sucks out of the tank.

Good morning! We are experiencing a freezing rain right now, but it's supposed to turn into snow later. Yuck! I have to take the kids to play practice in an hour, and all I want to do is go back to bed!

I need to get to the store to get stuff for Webelos den meeting today, but other than that, nothing is very pressing.

Dinner tonight will be some kind of soup. It has to be quick and easy... I start Zumba class tonight at 7:30. I'll let y'all know how it goes!

Dinner last night was really good. Here is a picture:

I served a big salad with it.

WFD tonight: if I have time to go to the store after work I am planning on making mustard roasted fish. If not, I made a pot of split pea soup yesterday, and we will have that with some crusty bread.

Have a good day, all!

Vickie -- They knocked on your door on Christmas?? That is ridiculous.

Nancy -- Thanks for the blueberry buckle recipe!

Robin -- I don't think I could eat that polenta.

Aimee -- I'm glad you're feeling better.

Glynis -- Have fun at zumba!

This is our busy afternoon, so we'll get pizza. I might make myself some soup to have once the kiddos are in bed though. Takeout food has not been a friend to my stomach lately.

Well, I settled on a soup. It's a Rachael Ray recipe: Pizza and Meatball Stoup. It sounded yummy, lower carb, and relatively easy. Of course, I'll have to make either breadsticks or (dare I say it) biscuits to go along with the soup, and DH and I will have big green salads on the side. Just what the doctor ordered on this most yucky day!

I'll try to get back on, but I've got a lot of studying to do today. I didn't get anything done with the kids home from school yesterday. I'm hoping that Mary can entertain herself today, and the baby will take a good nap. Cross your fingers!

Glynis- That pork sounds really good, I think I might try that later in the week.

Marilyn- Good luck with those fish, this is a fish free house. We had them when we were little and they just aren't for me. My brother on the other hand is a curator at an aquarium, I prefer them on my plate.

Aimee- I hope your feeling better and you get a bit of rest in.

Becky- My phone has stopped ringing, I hope yours has too. One party called while I was washing dishes and the other party called while I was brushing my teeth. At least it was a short campaign.

steak and onions, leftover soup, and a big salad for dinner.

Robin - that's cool! Which aquarium, the one in Boston? I used to volunteer for our aquarium down here; I was there for 11 years and very involved with the program. At one point it was a family affair - Bob was there for 9 years, Matt did it for about 5 years and Erin was there about 3 years. The kids got into it because their schools required service hours. I sometimes miss it, I made great friends there.

I'm making wings tonight from the latest FN magazine - vietnamese style - with fried potatos.
