The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

ugadog, Welcome back! I don't own a crockpot but that sure sounds good & easy!

Nancy, Tell Buddy we will do our best to continue discussing football. Maybe eventually you'll get some of it through osmosis! ;) Boy that sure sounds like some great goodies! Blueberry Buckle with home grown wheat flour!!:woohoo: Score! ;) I'm having trouble sleeping also, the steroid injection I had on Thurs. gives me trouble for about a week.

Sheryl, what about a Tylenol PM...can you take those and would it help?

Nan - Too funny about Buddy eating dirt before polenta!:lmao::lmao:

Sheryl - Tylenol PM works for me.

Sheryl, what about a Tylenol PM...can you take those and would it help?

Ann, I already take prescription lunesta to sleep. (as soon as I lay down my neck starts hurting.) So I really can't add anything else. It's okay though, even though I don't sleep, the steroids also make me a bit hyper., so I don't feel really tired!

So Nancy, when you want to tell Buddy off, Do you say " Eat Polenta " instead of Eat Dirt?!

I had no idea what polenta was so i googled...OMG..Im with Buddy...barf city !!

Yes, the city is busy. I just got home from the French Quarter where I was cruising along at a whopping speed of 2 miles per hour.

Everybody was buying Saints stuff. :dance3:

Did you wave when you drove by my house? ;)

She has a recipe for polenta on the package but Buddy would eat dirt before polenta.

:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2:

I love the Buddyisms Nan...

Looks like pot roast night all over.... got ours in the crockpot with onions carrots and potatoes. And leftovers tomorrow.

Hi Everyone. Becky and I did make it to the shower, almost on time. Google maps gave us some bad directions. As far as showers go, this is one I certainly will not forget. Our cousin is a riot, so we were laughing the whole time. The food was pretty awful, but Becky made a nice meal later that night. We had sole and swordfish meuniere, Mom's eggplant sticks, summer and zucchini squash, and the lone failure, risotto cakes. They got really overcooked because we were waiting for my dad to come in from work. Today we had linguine and clams, arugula salad and crusty bread. So yummy!

Vickie -- How was karate?

Laura, you should join Glynis & I on the "What Are You Reading" thread....lots of good info.

Thanks! I have posted there on rare occasions, but I will try to check it out more regularly.

Kathy -- I'm sorry your MIL is still having a difficult time. Other than that sad visit, though, it sounds like you had a pretty good weekend...surprise visit from Kyle, a solid Saints victory, and oysters. I really need to get some oysters soon. You and Sheryl are killing me.

I hate the fact that dinner is always planned by me.

I TRY to get input, but the response is always, "I don't know..." They sure know what they don't want though!! I hope Matthew had fun!

So we were pathetic last night.

Don't feel pathetic. It took Becky, John and I at least three or four planned nights out to actually go out, and I think we still may have stayed home that time except that John was already in the city. It is just so much easier to stay home.

Sara made a no bake triple layer mud pie that was out of this world. I'll need to get that recipe!!

Yes you do and then you need to come share it with us! That sounds amazing.

SOme friends came by this mornign to return a pan and she had it filled with blueberry buckle.

Those are some nice friends!! Yes, you can definitely make corn bread and muffins with the cornmeal. If it is a coarsely ground cornmeal, you can put it in your food processor and make it finer if you like. Also, do you have a recipe for the blueberry buckle? I have my grandmother's recipe, but I think there is something missing because it didn't come out right. I would love to compare another good recipe.

So Nancy, when you want to tell Buddy off, Do you say " Eat Polenta " instead of Eat Dirt?!

Ugadog, welcome back and thanks for posting the recipe!

Wendie -- I get confused too. And so, that is all I remember from here right now.

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend! We have an extra day tomorrow here (except from skating...there are no holidays from skating) so I am looking forward to relaxing and taking it easy with the kids.

Evening everyone,

I wanted to thank you all for the good wishes for Matthew. He is a very happy young man tonight. The weekend went great. They went out to eat on Friday night and then went to see a movie. Saturday night they went to her house to play Wii. And they have "hung" out together all day today. He doesn't have school tomorrow but she has to work. And then he has to go back to school tomorrow night. So they won't see each other again until next weekend.

I am so darn happy to see my boy happy again. The only down side to all of this is now that he has Amy, we don't and won't get to see much of him.:rolleyes1

Thanks again for all the prayers and good thoughts. I really appreciate it.

:lmao::lmao:Ladies, we are having so much fun with the polenta talk :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:. Buddy is laughiung and he does not know what polenta is.....I did tell him I was going to tell him to "eat polenta" when I am mad! The corn meal is fine ground and I will ask Torrie for the recipe. It was really very good, She is a fabulous cook. He husband's family farm is the last one in the town, their veggies cannot be beat. We always get our corn from them and it is to die for. Last week the corn was from their fields and Buddy said you knew it was from their "dirt". No higher compliment can be made. He always knows when my sauce is made with my own tomatoes. This man called me a "city girl' a long time ago :rotfl:

Ellen- I am so glad Matthew had a good weekend :goodvibes

Kat- My heart is breaking for you and Johnny. :sad1: I wish there was an answer, :sad2:

Lauri- mud pie :cloud9:

Well we have had company all day. SOme friends came by this mornign to return a pan and she had it filled with blueberry buckle. YUM! It had some of their own home grown wheat flour. She also brought their home grown potatoes, a gallon of their maple syrup and some of theior own corn meal. I need to figure out what to make with that. Can you maake corn muffins or corn bread with it? She has a recipe for polenta on the package but Buddy would eat dirt before polenta.

OMG Nancy!! I almost spit water all over my keyboard on this one. Yes, you can make corn muffins or corn bread with it.

I had no idea what polenta was so i googled...OMG..Im with Buddy...barf city !!

Vickie - we need to introduce you to grits. Very similar to polenta and we eat them all the time down here! Now, you can keep the haggis!!!

Ellen - so glad that Matthew had such a good weekend!

Laura - I'm glad you and Becky made it to the shower. Enjoy your extra day with the kids! And I will definitely share the recipe if she does!

Hello all. Spent the day doing pretty much nothing, did a little reading, watched TV and took a couple naps.

I do need to get up and do things tomorrow.

Oh and it looks like I will be a temporary member of the Who Dat considering the Ravens pooped out on me! :sad2:

Vickie, I agree with Lauri. You can keep your hagis, and that is coming from a Scottish/English girl as well! Polenta is similar in texture to grits or cream of wheat. California Grill serves it with pork tenderloin which is yummy.

Happy Monday. It is sleeting and miserable here.

WFD- BBQ country style ribs, baked sweets, and cauliflower gratin.

We love BlueZoo and are going back next month. What did you have for your entree?
I had the simply fish . I chose monkfish with a crabmeat, dijon mustard and chive sauce. It was wonderful . We loved the atmosphere, service and food

MMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmm. That sounds so good!

Lauri- grits! Marisa and jeff love grits! Now Kady eats them and poor Buddy just gags. I think Marisa had some sort of cheesy grit at CG when we were in Disney and she said that she was in Grit Heaven! Now Vickie's haggies are another story............

Dinner is spaghetti with meatballs and sausage. Garlic bread adn salad ont eh side. Donny is supposed to come for dinner and this is his request. He is going to show me what I am doing wrong on this computer.

Welcome carejo!!

Ok ladies, I will bite (don't laugh remember I am a meat and potato kind of girl) what is haggies?

Ann ~ stay warm and inside. Sounds like a miserable day.

Marilyn ~ enjoy your day off.

Nancy ~ you are killing me here sweetie. I love my visuals of Buddy!! I guess great minds think alike - AGAIN!! Matthew wants spaghetti also.

Kat ~ how are you this morning? I thought of you all night!

Aimee ~ are you feeling better today? Did everything stay down and in last night. :rolleyes1

Wendie ~ how is Ross feeling today. Are you able to get him in to the doctor?

I am off today and I am going to have fun. Cleaned, washed and sorted all weekend. Today is mine - all mine. As soon as Matthew gets up we are going to take his pickup in for an oil change then do some shopping. He never asks for anything, so I usually have to guess what he needs. But today I am taking him to the grocery store to stock him up and then we will drive to the mall and see if I can get him to buy some new jeans and shirts. We shall see. Lunch will be in there sometime. I am really looking forward to just being with my boy.

WFDT ~ Spaghetti, meat sauce, garlic bread sticks and a green salad.

Make it a great day my friends.

Marilyn - Welcome to the Who Dat Nation, even if it is only temporary.;)

carejo – Sounds great!

Ellen – Enjoy your day with Matthew.:goodvibes I’m fine, hoping Johnny gets some advice at work today.

I know I’m a southern girl but I guess I’m my Daddy’s girl more because I hate grits!!!!!

WFD – Red beans & rice with grilled chicken sausages.

Here’s the recipe for the triple layer mud pie Sara made. It’s a recipe from Kraft.

Triple Layer Mud Pie

Ingredients

3 squares BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate, melted
1/4 cup canned sweetened condensed milk
1 OREO Pie Crust (6 oz.)
1/2 cup chopped PLANTERS Pecans, toasted
2 cups cold 2% milk
2 pkg. (3.9 oz. each) JELL-O Chocolate Instant Pudding
1 tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed, divided

Directions

MIX chocolate and condensed milk; pour into crust. Sprinkle with nuts.
BEAT 2% milk and pudding mixes with whisk 2 min.; spoon 1-1/2 cups over nuts. Stir 1/2 the whipped topping into remaining pudding; spread over pudding layer in crust.
TOP with remaining whipped topping. Refrigerate 3 hours

I’m telling you, I could stop after the first step and just eat that. The chocolate/condensed milk mixture hardened on the graham cracker crust like a shell and was SO GOOD.
