The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Marisa -- I"m sorry I missed your post earlier. I hope you are feeling better and you get a good report on Wednesday.

Maria -- This is such an emotionally-charged time of year anyway...I am sorry you and Greg are going through all this.

Glynis -- My bedroom is always the most neglected room in our house. I clean everywhere else, and my room is always last on the list. It sounds like you had a fun night last night!

You break plates, I break glasses. We only have plastic ones in the house, because I'm forever breaking them. Even at friends houses, I'm not allowed to use glass. Only plastic.
Except for the wine glasses, for some reason I don't break those. :confused3 :rolleyes1 :lmao:
 I break glasses too, although I am not partial to any one type. I probably need to get some regular drinking glasses before Christmas or I will be serving orange juice in martini glasses Christmas morning.

As some may know from FB my little Lizzy (my yorkie baby) had her teeth cleaned and lost or had to pull 4 of them

I hope she is feeling better.

I need help! I have been to three stores and so far, no one has fennel.

I agree with Robin. I don't like fennel, so I would just ignore that part of the recipe.

Robin -- Thanks for the book suggestions! I always give the kids a book and they don't have those.

I obviously dont usually celebrate Thanksgiving but I damn tootin gonnae buy me a turkey thursday......because Im thankful.

Yes my fine lassie's Im Thankful...... THANKFUL WE DINNAE DAE THANKSGIVING !!!!

:rotfl2:

Sheryl -- I hope your headache is better.

17lb bird for 5 adults and 2 toddlers...certainly planning on leftovers.

We are too. We have 6 adults and 1 kid (Liam is having steak ) and mom is cooking two 12-14 pound turkeys. I love turkey leftovers though. One year, Greg and I ate turkey almost every day from Thanksgiving until after New Years because we had leftovers from mom, I made a turkey, and then another at Christmas. The weird thing? We both lost 10 pounds. :confused3

Caili circled half the things in the American Girl catalog (that's what I get trying to commit her to a list :headache:) so I am going to get a couple of them online tonight. Have a good night!

Love that your having THANKSGIVING!!!!!

Greg is talking to Mike who is Cameron's Dad so the saga continues.

Im with you every step here Maria.

Oh I have to tell youse what was for dinner..McDonalds !!

Yeh I know...:confused3 but it was a boys treat McD's.

We had his parents night tonight and my boy done good.:thumbsup2

Above average in Math,Reading and age 12+ in writing ( story writing, spelling, comprehension and stuff :confused3) and considering he is 9 I was well chuffed.

She also waxed on about his behaviour (wee bit chatty but as my boy no big surprise there ) and personality.

My proudest moment was when she said he was a good friend, a very supportive class mate and that he would do anything to help anyone.

She told us last month when they had the pupil council elections that some of the kids were very nervous and quite upset about speaking.
But the boy encouraged them and helped them all through.

I know his grades are important but this really made my heart swell.

Hey,

I obviously dont usually celebrate Thanksgiving but I damn tootin gonnae buy me a turkey thursday......because Im thankful.

Menus big enough to feed half of Scotland....Painting whole rooms....Cleaning like cleaning had just been invented...family drivin youse to distraction !!

Yes my fine lassie's Im Thankful...... THANKFUL WE DINNAE DAE THANKSGIVING !!!! :worship::worship::worship::worship::worship::worship::worship::worship:

But to all youse with stresses I do hope you get every thing sorted and get to enjoy your holidays...xx

Ok, this got me! I just laughed so hard I snorted water through my nose!!! Thanks, Vickie, I really needed it! It is a lot of work, but I got a clean house, and a remodeled basement out of it! Plus, I get to put up my Christmas decorations in a clean house this weekend!!!

By the way, I don't know if any of you follow soccer, but our team Real (pronounced ray-al) Salt Lake just won the MLS championship! It's a big deal here in Utah!!!!

Just jumping in to let y'all know I'm still alive--barely keeping my eyes above water around here. 16 mile run and both kids' birthday parties this past weekend. And now I'm hosting MNF tonight and then we're leaving for MN before dawn on Wednesday. It just never ends! Luckily I found the link to the new thread before I got completely lost.

Glad you found us!

I hope you have a restful holiday. Sounds like you really need it!

Hooray for your son! The grades are wonderful, but the best part is that he is a wonderful person, and she recognizes that! Give him a hug from me!!!

Aimee- You might not like my opinion, but I say skip the fennel. That's odd you can't find it though, I think in our stores it's near the potatoes. I hate it so I never really look for it. I don't really now what a good substitue would be, sorry.

I agree with Robin. I don't like fennel, so I would just ignore that part of the recipe.

Thanks for your thoughts - I'll just skip it!

BOOOOO.....We are LA Galaxy here...I LOVE David Beckham !!

Vickie, you must be so proud!!!! You've done great with "your boy".

Hi Steph...16 miles? WOW!

Thank you all for your thoughts & support.

After Greg spoke to Mike he asked me again about meeting Cameron Saturday & I was clear that I just can't. Until she makes the decision that adoption is 99.99% a sure thing I just can't do it.
I don't know who said it but Greg did think we could help her make up her mind........

There is good news Guiliana was born today and weighed 6lbs 12oz. Everyone is well :)

Dinner tonight was pepperoni pizza.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been keeping up and not sure when I can. We're dealing with some issues that are taking a lot of my time and looks like it will be a couple of weeks before it's resolved. I'm keeping all of you in my prayers and will be keeping up as much as I can.

Hope everything is ok....Not sure what to say because I'm not sure if it's good or bad:confused3Hope you'll be able to share what's going on so I don't worry.

Here are the recipes from the pumpkin pancakes & the fudge I make.....

Pumpkin Pancakes:

2 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar
2 cups milk
1 tablespoon melted butter
1 cup pumpkin
2 eggs, separated

Mix all dry ingredients in large bowl.
In blender mix milk, butter, pumpkin, & egg yolks, slowly add mixture to dry ingredients.
Beat egg whites until stiff.
Fold whites into mixture.

I added a pinch of cinnamon~

Marbled Orange Fudge

3/4 cup butter
3 cups sugar
3/4 cup whipping cream
1 package white chocolate chips
1 (7 oz.) jar marshmallow cream
3 teaspoons orange extract
12 drops yellow food coloring
5 drops red food coloring

In heavy saucepan combine butter, sugar & whipping cream. Cook & stir on low heat until sugar is dissolved. Bring to boil, cook & stir for 4 minutes.
Remove from heat; stir in chips & marshmallow cream.
Reserve 1 cup of marshmallow cream & add food coloring.

Pour into greased 13x9 inch pan.
Drop reserved colored marshmallow cream by teaspoon on top & cut through with a knife to create a swirl.
Put in fridge or cool place covered.

Tomorrow I'm making oatmeal bread......let me know if anyone wants the recipe.

Hey y'all,

I was sure I posted this morning but I must have goofed. Now I'm way behind.

Marisa, Take it easy please! Let Nan take care of you a bit. Prayers for everthing to be okay & progressing normally.

Maria, Prayers for you & Greg. I can't imagine how hard these decisions must be.

Kathy, Don't know what's happening but anything I can do to help, you just let me know!

Vickie, :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao: I choked on my water! You crack me up! Are you sure you don't want to come spend the next Pre-Thanksgiving time with me?? ;) I'm so glad the boy is doing so well in school! It's great for them to have excellent grades but to hear they are turning into such a good person so young is really special! :thumbsup2 Good Job Mom & Dad!

I spent this evening watching a movie & DancingWTS while ironing & folding napkins! Sounds like fun right Vick?! Don't think I'm Martha, cause I"ll have to admit we have some strange traditions here. Fancy folded cloth napkins but plastic plates! But they are the fanciest plastic plates you can find! :confused3

But your place settings won't be complete without purple Knights of Nemesis cups! And one Caesar one thrown in for good measure. :lmao:

I hope everything is okay

I set my table tonight and all my black cloth napkins have lint on them :confused3 I have rewashed them twice and I can't get them all the way "clean." Since my dinner is tomorrow night, and I need to work in the morning, they will just have to work!

Good morning everyone! My cake decorating has been delayed till tonight. I have chocolate cake staring me in the face I am strong no nibbling :thumbsup2 Am I strong or what?

Truth I went upstairs early last night so I couldn't see it.:rotfl2:

Marisa I hope your knee is fine. I've done that a couple of time when my shoulder was really bad luckily no damage. Keep us updated

Bethany My stepmom had mismatched glasses and stemware. That way no one knew if you broke one or not. She had some beautiful glasses. She would go around to antique stores and salvation army stores and only buy two or three.

Last night was leftovers. Not sure about tonight. I need to start my baking for thanksgiving. I made myself quite a list

Good morning everyone!

WFD - Hamburger steaks and gravy, smashed potatoes and corn.

This is Attempt #2 for this post. Last night I had it all multi-quoted and everything when the DIS crashed. :sad2:

Well I'm kinda glued to my chair. As some may know from FB my little Lizzy (my yorkie baby) had her teeth cleaned and lost or had to pull 4 of them she'll sit on my lap moaning and if I get up she tries to follow me and falls cause she is still groogy.

Awwww, how is she doing now?

I obviously dont usually celebrate Thanksgiving but I damn tootin gonnae buy me a turkey thursday......because Im thankful.

Menus big enough to feed half of Scotland....Painting whole rooms....Cleaning like cleaning had just been invented...family drivin youse to distraction !!

Just wanted to post and let you know I am here.

Thank you...I hope you're feeling a little better. Did you get a more restful night of sleep last night?

Just jumping in to let y'all know I'm still alive--barely keeping my eyes above water around here. 16 mile run and both kids' birthday parties this past weekend. And now I'm hosting MNF tonight and then we're leaving for MN before dawn on Wednesday. It just never ends! Luckily I found the link to the new thread before I got completely lost.

 That is a BUSY few days! Have fun in MN. A few of our teachers went to Minneapolis for a conference a couple weeks ago. I think they were mildly disappointed they did not get to see any snow. (It was in the 60s!). They also said they asked a local - I think the hotel front desk - where a good place to eat was. After getting directions, they asked if it was safe to walk there. The guy asked where they were from. When he heard "New Orleans", they got laughed at. "You're from New Orleans and you're asking if it's safe HERE?!?" :rotfl: They got a good laugh out of that.

Caili circled half the things in the American Girl catalog (that's what I get trying to commit her to a list :headache:) so I am going to get a couple of them online tonight. Have a good night!

Oooh I like American Girl. When I was in that age group, they only had their original three dolls and accessories - Samantha, Kirsten, and Molly. Felicity and Addy were brand new when I was in I think 6th grade. I can't believe how much they have grown since then. I used to circle the catalog up too. I remember looking at it in the car on my way to school. What doll does she have?

We had his parents night tonight and my boy done good.:thumbsup2

Above average in Math,Reading and age 12+ in writing ( story writing, spelling, comprehension and stuff :confused3) and considering he is 9 I was well chuffed.

:goodvibes That is great news!

 I'm glad to hear the baby is healthy. Stay strong; I can't imagine how hard this is for you.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been keeping up and not sure when I can. We're dealing with some issues that are taking a lot of my time and looks like it will be a couple of weeks before it's resolved. I'm keeping all of you in my prayers and will be keeping up as much as I can.

 I'm sorry to hear this. I hope it all turns out well. Oh, I meant to tell you the other day that I'm glad you like how your Mom's house looks now.

I still have a lot of cleaning and mundane tasks to do. Should be a fun day. :rotfl:

CRAP!

I am here typing updates in WORD and totally forgot to get Andrew on the bus and he fell back to sleep!!!! I have to drive him now. Gotta wake the baby and get going. BBL...

Have a great day...this is what I got to so far!

Good Morning! Sorry I did not post again yesterday. I was checking in and thinking of everyone. The baby was on a different schedule…probably due to the travel in the car over the weekend.

Marisa, I am sorry you fell. Maybe the doctor will give you better news than you are expecting tomorrow. I will say a prayer for you. Please take it easy and let Nan take care of you. Your home will always be there.

Kathy, I hope everything is OK. Please let me know if I can do anything. I hope you are feeling better.

Maria, Please be careful and stick to your guns like others have said. I hate that this is going on for you. Please call if you ever need to talk. Welcome Guiliana! Glad all is well there.

Gretchen, I have been thinking of you and your Mom. Please know you are in my thoughts through the holidays.

Ann, I am sorry that you are still dealing with BS. Family drama is always going on here so I know its very trying. I was always getting sick over things but I have basically written off my one brother (2 of my other sisters keep their distance from him too) and take no BS (well, not let it bother me) and I have been so much happier. I hope you and Ron decide to do whatever is best for your family...my problem was I was always trying to please others and I was unhappy. Hugs.

Lauri, I hope Lizzy is feeling better today. Poor baby.

Aimee, Your menu sounds great. I would have told you to keep the fennel out too. Another hater of fennel here. Have a nice time. I hope you’re feeling better.

Vickie, What can I say? You are too funny! Enjoy your turkey and think of all of us nuts going crazy for a once a year dinner! I am so proud of the Boy. What a wonderful kid you have.

Sheryl, Too funny with the ironing of napkins and the plastic plates. I use my china plates, silver and the “nice” paper napkins for dinner and appetizers and dessert are all thanksgiving themed paper plates. I only have 9 guests including us this year so its easier.

Laura, Love that Liam wants steak and ketchup! I did that as a kid…some big kids still do that here. When will Greg be coming home?

Becky, awesome pics as usual.

Janice, I hope your cake came out great and you enjoyed the birthday.

Glynis, Way to go on the cleaning! Have fun at pie night!

Bethany, I hope your family makes it out to visit. Are you cooking?

Marilyn, I would love to see pics of the quilt. Will you post pics when you get your new
computer?

Robin, A scotch drinker, ay? You would get along great with my Mom. She has been having a scotch and water every night before dinner as long as I can remember. Well, now she has one when she remembers.

Stephanie, Don’t know how you do all you do and then go run 16 miles. You go girl! I really need to get my but to the gym again. Tom’s new boss dragged him to the gym yesterday. She said bring your gym clothes or don’t come to work!!! Rofl!

I hope Jay made it home. I wish I got Ellen’s number to call and see. Does anyone have her #. I have to check the phone list.

Bethany, I hope your family makes it out to visit. Are you cooking?

:scared1: Oops!

They should make it. They had a windstorm this week that I guess caused some damage around town - down trees & power lines, flying debris, "taco'd" signs (where they bend in half around the pole) - but they had no loss of power or damage. Now there is a freezing fog alert.

I figure that they'll make it out okay; they may be delayed a bit, but I fully expect to see them.

I'm not cooking - my DH is. I might make some cornbread & brownies - the simple stuff. I'm on airport duty.

I did end up finding an SUV for a price that wasn't utterly insane. My dad has Avis Preferred, so he had tried to book a car that seats 6 (mine only seats 5), but they didn't have any. I looked on hotwire a few days ago and they didn't have any full-size SUVs, jut minivans - for $176/day. It would have been $886 for 4 days! On a whim, I checked again yesterday and got a "Hotwire Hot Rate" on an SUV for $87/day + tax = $336 total for 3 days. We have to go out to the airport Sunday night to take my brother and SIL back. We'll return the SUV then and my dad will get a car for the last day. Monday I have to work so they will be driving around and will need to get themselves back to the airport.

I have a pretty good idea of what we'll do while they're here too. Whether they like it or not is up to them. We like it here and we are the ones that live here so :snooty:.

:rotfl2:

Kathy, you have me concerned. Sending prayers. Please call if you need to talk.

Stephanie, glad you checked in. 16 miles makes me tired just reading it.

Maria, congrats on your new DN. I love the name Guiliana, so pretty. I know Greg has your best interest in his heart. I still think you are right in being protective.

Vickie, :cheer2: so proud of your DB. Tell him his US WFD Aunties are proud.
Keep up the good work Mom.

To any of you traveling soon for the holiday. Happy early Thanksgiving! Safe travels and I am thankful to call each of you my friend.

---------------

Off to get Emma up. DS is already bathed and I need to shower and get out the door. DS has his three year check up today. I am dropping DD off to my DP so I control DS in the Dr. office. He touches everything and I really want to be able to control that with all the germs around. He gets his second dose of H1N1 today.

I will most likely be out with DM most of the day. BBL

WFD- grilled terryaki boneless thighs, egg noodles and some frozen veggies.
