The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Subbing! I would love to get some new ideas!
Husband is out of town so I might not even eat dinner. (I have a large lunch waiting for me at work!)

Join in! Lots of ideas here, if you go to the first page Kat has the links to previous threads as well as link to all of the recipes we use here. Most are tried and true family favorites.
What are you having for lunch?

My SIL (Luke's godmother and my maid of honor) was admitted to the hospital overnight with severe arm pain. Please keep her in your prayers today. They are running test but no answers yet.

Prayers offered! Let us know how she is.

Kathy, Thanks for the link to the F&W info. I guess we have to figure out what will happened with out ADR if the event is at the restaurant. Remember, when you do your trip, you have to start or end in NYC to see me.

Tom is home sick today (lucky me ;)). I guess he had too much fun this weekend but he came home with a horrible sore throat. He may go to the doctor.

We are starting WW today (on our own). Dinner will be grilled porterhouse with a tossed salad. Porterhouse is our new favorite cut. I never bought it until about a month ago and it is so good. How could you go wrong with a filet and strip in one steak? Of course with Sandy's rub...that stuff is like crack! So freakin good. If you have not tried it, you should. THE BEST!

I don't think the F&W event would have much of an impact on regular dining at BZ but you might want to double check it.

Do you think I'd make a trip up there without seeing you and your guys, NO WAY!!!!!!!

Sure hope Tom gets well soon, for your sake as well as his.

We love Porterhouse steaks as well - YUMMM!!!!!!!

Is Sandy's rub recipe somewhere??? Please share, I just made some rub for my ribs over the weekend. I would love to try it.

Of course.

Sandy's rub is in the OP under sauces, seasonings rubs....it is incredible!

Maria - Please check in and let us know how you made out at the Dr.

WFD - Roast beef poboys and sweet potato fries. I'm having leftover scallion sweet potatoes from last night, they are SO GOOD!:thumbsup2

Welcome! I look forward to sharing recipes with you. We have a recipe index in the op with links!

Ann -- Thoughts and prayers for your SIL. Let us know if you hear more.
I am sure I speak for most when I say keep the stories about your little ones coming!

Kathy -- Those scallion sweet potatoes sound good. I am going to try those.

Nancy -- Of course you and Marisa would be invited!

Husband is out of town so I might not even eat dinner. (I have a large lunch waiting for me at work!)

Welcome!

Lauren -- I hope you are able to cross a few things off your to-do list while Andrew is at the beach. My list is ridiculously long right now because I got nothing accomplished while Greg was home.

I haven't heard whether he arrived in Germany yet, but I am assuming he has. He is there for two years, but it sounds like most of it will be in training or deployed. The kids and I are planning to visit at some point, but we don't have definite plans yet. I'll know more once Greg gets settled there.

Liam has a game tonight, so we will eat before it. Becky got me some corn from a farmstand yesterday, so we will have that and maybe burgers. I'm not sure about that yet. We'll see if I get to the propane filling station.

Good Morning Ladies!

Sorry I have been horrible with checking in :sad1:

Last week was so busy with my dr. appointment, kady at home and having friends over, carnival (on and off due to weather )

Maria Good Luck at the doctor today. If you need another antibiotic, make sure you ask for levaquin. It is strong and will kill anything. Jeff has to get that because he doesnt respond to other antibiotics. :confused3 He is strange.....

Ann I love hearing about Emma. Babies are just so great! (Then they turn 7!!:scared1:)

Lauren I love it that the baby is exercising also, especially the vocal cords!!!

Sheryl Please take it easy, and I know it is hard, but let everyone help you. If you cannot eat anymore brownies, send them MY WAY!!!

Becky and Laura I would never turn down an invitation to eat anything either of you make!!

Kat I hope that either of the sales work out, but as Nan said dont let your heart interfere in the decision.

On the pot roast issue. If you feel something is missing, you need to work it out in true Nan form. Open your cabinet that holds all your spices. Cover your eyes and pull out anything, and I mean anything! Marmalade, sprite, chili powder, bay leaves, anything!!! Or all of them!:rotfl2:

I went to the doctor on Thursday to meet with the surgeon to see what our next steps will be. It turned out to be a great visit! He spoke to another surgeon and showed him some of the photos of my knee that were taken during the arthroscopic surgery. That surgeon knew of a surgery to repair the main problem of my knee. If that can be done, I will not need a replacement! :worship: Every time my knee dislocates or pops I stretch out a tendon that holds the knee cap in place. If I dont get it repaired, it will just snap. The only issue is finding a surgeon who can do the surgery. The doctor said when it is time, he will definately find one. We are close to Yale, so he will start there and ask the opinion of the medical board to see who they recommend. So all in all, good news

Nan is going to take Kady to pick blueberries today and then tonight I promised to take her swimming to Sunrise Park. So dinner will be burgers on the grill with asparagus.

Have a great day everyone. Sorry if I missed anyone!!!

....AND, it's gluten free....:thumbsup2

Yes, one of the men here at church is a new Celiac and I introduced him to it.

It's funny your DHs wouldn't touch it... DH ate it by the spoonful :confused3 It had black beans, Rotel, corn, and spices so he was a happy camper. Sorta like a variation on a mexican rice.

Dh is leaving town for a quick overnight trip this afternoon so I'm just going to eat leftovers.

WFD: the sausage and zucchini recipe I talked about Saturday (if the recipe is good I will post it) and the first corn on the cob of the season!

Marisa, great news!!!!

Ann prayers for your SIL. How far are you from Newport?

Nancy, this was the first white corn I found, it was from a stand on the other side of town. We should pick a day for a R.I. roadtrip.

Aimee, how is the new pastor? Hope everything works out.

Lauren, now I think we need to have steak tonight. You Bubbie :rotfl:

Sheryl, hope everyday is finding you better:hug:

Laura, good luck for the game tonight:cheer2:

WFD girls know I will send out the ADR #'s soon. I can't get my spreadsheet to take the new #'s. If Greg can't fix tonight I will just send the list

Went to the doctor & he is 100% thrilled with my recovery from surgery! I'm a good healer, wonder if Greg will go for the tummy tuck now;)
Bad news is he is sending me to an Immunologist. He feels after the bite last year something with my system went haywire. Not so happy about this but I will go.

BBL

Maria, I am very glad you went to the doctor! Did he set up your appointment for the immunologist? Or do you have to?

We are going to the beach in RI next month, but we dont know where to stay. Has anyone stayed in Westerly or Misquomocut? Any suggestions?

Hey y'all,

Ann, Prayers that your SisIL will be okay!

Maria, I am glad you have recovered from the surgery! I'm also glad he is sending you to someone else. You have been sick way too often.

Marisa, That is very very good news!! Prayers that it will all work out!

Laura, That would be great for you & the kids to visit Germany!

I'm feeling okay today. I had such great improvement yesterday, I guess I was expecting the same everyday. I know better but was still hoping for it!

Dinner will be one of the many dishes already in the fridge or whatever someone brings us! My uncle showed up with potroast, rice & green beans yesterday! Y'all sure don't have to worry about me going hungry! Right now I can choose from spaghetti, gumbo, potroast, shrimp pasta! Chris fixed a pot of black beans & one of green beans yesterday, I had to tell her to put it in the freezer!

Lauren- that throat/cold thing is going around. I hope that Tom has the mild version, Buddy has had it several times this summer. It seems to go away and is back two weeks later. Nola's dad was pretty sick with it too, he was flat out for five days! and this guy cannot sit still. Make sure Tom rests now and maybe he can kick it soon. That is the only way I see for YOU to survive!

Laura- Two years! That is a long time. Good thing you are all willing to travel, it is an opportunity for the kids that they will always remember.

Maria- I am glad that you are healing but seeing the Immunologist is a good idea. You have not been really well for any stretch in over a year, no way you can keep this up. If the winter season is bad who knows how it will affect you.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaareeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesa..........you are telling tales out of school :rolleyes1

blueberry picking went fine for me. Not so much for Kady. It seesm that there were almost no berries that were blue enough, plump enough or juicy enough for her basket. After all, Mommy does not want junkie puny little dried up berries. she only wants the best.
Funny though, they were fine when Nana offered to fill her basket for her :rotfl: She made no bones about picking raspberries. That was a big fat NO! She did bring along a basket JIC Nana wanted to pick some for Mommy. She likes them in her drinks :rotfl2:

Wait until she turns 9! :scared1: My DN just turned 9 last month and we're lucky her head didn't spin in circles, pre-puberty has reared it's ugly head!

Dinner tonight will be pasta with sausage and marinara, corn and cheesy garlic bread.

We are going to the beach in RI next month, but we dont know where to stay. Has anyone stayed in Westerly or Misquomocut? Any suggestions?

Laura and I lived in Westerly when we were kids! Great beaches (cold water though!). The Watch Hill area is very nice. One of the two remaining flying horses carousels in the world is located on their waterfront.

Misquomocut beach gets very very crowded in the summer.

I have not been back in ages, so don't have a lot of suggestions, but I think you will like it. Westerly is very pretty. I was so mad when we moved! :rotfl:

Great news on the recovery going so well and I'm glad you will be seeing an immunologist, you've had issues for way too long my friend.

So glad to hear you're improving!!!!:thumbsup2 Somehow I knew you wouldn't go hungry, that's just what we do down here is cook. Be sure and holler when the frig is getting bare and I'll help to fill it back up!!!:goodvibes

Maria -- I'm glad you got good news on the surgery recovery. I too think seeing the immunologist is a good idea. You have dealt with so much recently.

Marisa -- I'm glad you got a good report too! Like Becky said, we lived in Westerly, but I don't have any suggestions on where to stay. I would say that if you can be somewhere that has access to the town beach, that would be a lot less crowded than Misquomocut. Misquomocut is really pretty though.

Two years! That is a long time. Good thing you are all willing to travel, it is an opportunity for the kids that they will always remember.

He will get leave, as usual, and when he is not deployed, he will have vacation time. We'll make it work. I wouldn't say we are ALL willing to travel. The kids are not interested in going to Germany at all. Of course, Greg was trying to convince them they would like living there, and that was a big non-starter.

Sheryl -- I'm glad everyone is taking care of you.

My DN just turned 9 last month and we're lucky her head didn't spin in circles, pre-puberty has reared it's ugly head!

Ugh...I am so not looking forward to that stage! I see that so much at the skating rink. There are girls who two years ago were skating on the youngest team with Caili, and now they are ALL THAT.

Liam and I had burgers and Caili had grilled chicken wings (yup, I got the gas tank filled). Now we need to prepare for our evening of baseball. The team has only won one game so far, and most of the losses have been ugly. They only have three games to get it together before the playoffs start. Thanks for wishing them luck (but shh...I will probably be happy when the season is over).

Ann -- I forgot to mention earlier, but of course you would also be invited to a NE WFD meet! Becky always makes too much food, so everyone else could probably fly in and be well fed too.

Good luck!!!! Shhh....I know exactly what you mean.;)

My son is at the Dr's office right now, he didn't want mom tagging along. he got stung by a wasp yesterday and part of the stinger is still in his foot. He was pretty swollen and red this morning so hopefully he's getting it taken care of right now...:guilty:

Maria I agree with everyone. Glad you are going to a specialist and have recovered from your lastest surgery.

Sheryl You sound well fed. If I were closer I would definitely help with some of that food and help cook.;)

Laura From everyone that has gone to Germany they come back loving it. The people are friendly and the food is wonderful.

Lauren Sorry to hear Tom is sick:hug: Hopefully the little guy won't get it.

I am off to discover dinner.:upsidedow

Gretchen asked that I let you all know she has been spending as much time as she can with her Dad & hasn't forgotten the Dis...she' having difficulty posting from her phone.

She appreciates all the prayers.:grouphug: Please continue.....

Maria, Tell Gretchen that she & her Dad are always in my thoughts & prayers!

Kat, I hope Kyle's foot is okay!

Nan, I'm glad that at least one of you enjoyed berry picking.

Laura, Good luck to Liam's team!

I am have an easier time swallowing today. I've been craving veggies, so Angelina brought me a yummy salad for lunch! But I don't think that will help keep any weight off, since I had 1/3 of a chocolate eclair for dessert!
