The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Sheryl - Sendin love and good vibes ower the water for tomorrow !!

Sheryl - I'll be praying for you that your surgery goes well tomorrow.

Kat - That's wonderful news! I hope the sale goes through.

Maria - Good luck to Ellen. I hope it goes well for her at the audition. And I agree that you should be back in touch with the doctor. You have been sick too long and heck, you have another trip coming up.

Sheryl, I hope you check in before tomorrow. Please know that you are in my prayers. I wish you a smooth successful surgery & quick recovery.
Sending you my love, Maria

My little girl seems to be a night owl and likes to nap during the day...that has to change!!!

The newborn days are now a blur, but I seem to recall my two starting out this way too. Liam started sleeping at night once he was big enough to move into a crib, and Caili slept when I let her sleep in the bed with me. I hope you figure out something that works for Emma soon.

Maria -- Good luck to your niece tomorrow! That is so exciting!

DH actually went to the store today (only called 3 times!) so I guess I'll see what he's craving for dinner tonight when I get home.

So did he buy anything?

Her uncle got tickets through his work, and they are going to go sit in line from 2:00 until showtime so they can be the first in the theater.

I don't understand that either, but I do hope it was worth the wait!

Johnny & I ran into an old friend we hadn't seen in ages this past weekend. He buys, renovates and sells houses as a side business. We asked for his opinion on things we should do to get M&D's house ready to rent and he has now decided he wants to buy it!:worship:

That sounds perfect! I hope everything works out.

Darn I am not cooking tonight. The Eagle scouts are having a fund raiser at my favorite pizza place. So tonight I will do the ultimate sacrafice and order out :rolleyes1
 You are a good mom.

Thanks everyone for the congrats for Liam. They had another game tonight. They lost again, but it was close...2-1. Liam got on base in the last inning and moved to third on a couple of steals (in this league, a walk is as good as a triple ) but no one was able to get a hit to score him. He was disappointed.

Dinner tonight was cheese plate. Greg is complaining that he is starving, but I showed him the refrigerator and said he could make himself whatever he wanted. ;)

Sheryl -- I hope all goes well tomorrow. I will be thinking of you.

I am still not caught up but wanted to quickly check in...

Sheryl, Wishing you all the best for a quick successful surgery.

Maria, you are sick way too long my friend...I am so sorry that you are suffering like this. Please let me know if I can do anything. Good luck to your neice!

Vickie, Thank you for the ressie! I hope you're feeling better.

I can also make the other ADR if needed. I think our date to make ADRS is the 18th...I guess I should check that date.

Kathy, What wonderful news on the house!

Ellen, Prayers for Jay!

Lauri, Continued prayers for you, your friend and MIL.

Gretchen, continued prayers for your Dad.

Aimee, I hope you are doing better. You have such a busy schedule and not feeling well really rots...

Laura, Sorry Liam's team lost but so proud of how well he has been doing. I cannot for the life of me remember where Tom was...I think northern Germany. He told me several times but my brain is mush and the mail always went to the APO box (so that made it even easier for me to forget). I will find out for you.

*******
I know I missed alot my friends...I will hopefully be able to catch up soon. :grouphug:

I hate to ask again but could y'all please pray that this works out for us?:) I'm thrilled with the fact that this guy will bring that house back to life and make it more beautiful than ever.:goodvibes

oooh, I hope that works out!!! :woohoo:

I have given myself until Thursday to feel much better or I'm calling my pulmonary doctor.

Ah, so the honeymoon is over! How long until he returns?

Sheryl - you'll be in my prayers tomorrow

DH went to the store with my list. He called to ask what radishes were. I explained what they looked like - I know he knows what they are, just not computing in his mind. I go to pull them out for dinner and he got 4 heads of purple cabbage :rotfl: What am I supposed to do with it? :confused3 Can recipe suggestions? I would hate to waste it...

I made Thai Corn Chowder for dinner with shrimp - from the latest Food Network magazine. It was tasty, but it took a LOT of time prepping and was probably fairly pricey due to all the veggies in it.

/
Sheyl- Good luck tomorrow.

Aimee- lots and lots of coleslaw? :rotfl:

Dinner ended up being a zucchini muffin. I got home and was so sleepy I ate that and laid down and took a nap. I just had some scrambled eggs. The fish will have to wait until tomorrow night.

Went and got new glasses today, I now have bifocals. :headache:

Awww, Y'all make me all teary eyed! Thanks everyone! I was so busy getting everything ready last night, I didn't get to check in! I love you all & appreciate how much everyone cares. I'm not one bit nervous. Just say prayers my doc gets it all right! ;)

I'm taking off in a few. Surgery is scheduled for 7:00. It should take an hour 1/2 to 2 hrs. Bob will call Kat.

Love y'all & take care while MIA.:grouphug::love:

:rotfl2: How about a braised sweet & sour cabbage?

Sheryl - Praying for a successful, quick surgery and recovery my friend.

WFD - Grilled pork chops, ranch potato salad and corn on the cob.

Aimee, I love stir-fried cabbage. Chopped it up and saute with butter and alot of black pepper...yum, I like cider or malt vinegar on it when eating!!

Maria, good luck with DN's audition. If you are not feeling better, when are you calling the palmonary Dr. ???? Please don't let yourself get worse.

Laura, my DH would never agree to just a cheese plate for dinner. :lmao: Right now Emma is in our room in a pack and play bassinet. We still have not finished Luke's 'big boy room'. Once that is done our plan is to have Emma move into DS's nursery and crib. She is still getting into a routine, it only has been two weeks so I will give her more time. ;) Last night was a bit better, I got a couple of 3 hour stretches in.

Kathy, thank you for checking in with Bob. I know we are all waiting to hear how Sheryl makes out.

Hugs to everyone and their families!!! Sending prayers to you all.
-----

Got to start giving baths. I am heading to Target later today with my DM.
I really need to get motivated with my cooking again. I find myself making very simple dishes that can be prepared quickly.

Update you all later on what dinner will be????

Good Morning Ladies!!

Sheryl GOOD LUCK TODAY!! My thoughts and prayers are with you. I will be thinking about you all day!

Maria Alright, enough already. I am going to leave tonight after work if you dont call another doctor soon!! YOU HEAR ME YOUNG LADY (picture that in my Nan stern voice) :rotfl2:

Kat That is so great that you might sell the house. I will definately be praying this one goes through!! GOOD LUCK! :wizard:

Aimee I have to laugh at your DH on the radishes. I can picture Jeff doing that, but when I ask him to go to the store, he goes right after work. So that is usually at 3 or 4 in the morning. If he called me then, I would KILL him!!!

Laura Congrats to Liam. I know his team lost, but he did great!!! Kady and I did great berry picking, but she eats more than she picks. Finally in the car on the way home I had to tell her to stop eating them. She would have had them all gone before we got home!!!

Sorry I didnt check in yesterday. Monday night Kady was complaining of a headache. She NEVER gets them. Of course, I had no more tylenol for her. Thank goodness my neighbor did!! I gave her some but she was so uncomfortable she couldnt sleep. So I brought her in my bed and rubbed her back until she fell asleep. Poor kid :sad1:

She fell asleep at 8:30 and there I am just laying there. So i started to read Twilight. It seems good so far :woohoo:

I decided to work from home because she has to be up at 6 to go to Nana's in the morning. I didnt think that was a great idea just incase she was fighting something off.

Jeff was also off from work so when he woke up, Kady helped him put together our new computer desk. She was excited to be able to help him and spend alone time with him. That is something they never get :cloud9:

I am back to work today, but I am working from home again tomorrow because I meet with the surgeon tomorrow to go over my surgery and next steps. Lets see how that one goes!!

Have a great day!

MARIA- We went to Bermuda a few years ago and we took a bottle of champagne and went for a nice romantic carriage ride around.

Then another night we went to a local comedy club called Yuck Yucks that was fun.

Then one day we decided to rent the scooters, We had so much fun driving around on them and stopping along the way,we even got up before sun rise drove over to the beach and watch the sun come up !!

IT'S A BEAUTIFUL ISLAND ENJOY.

Ok guys I really am dating myself with this ? but I know you guys can help. My oldest son is turning 18 in 2 weeks any ideas of what to get him or his B-day?

Hey ladies! Justba quick check-in

Sheryl--lots of prayers and good thoughts heading your way this morning.

Kathy--praying the house sale goes through this time. It's time for this to be over for your family.

Aimmee--lol on the cabbage! That's something my dh would do!

Gretchen--continued prayers for your dad

well, we are still w/o Internet and cable. After spending an ungodly amount of time with a tech on the phone, he thinks lightening damaged the outside box. So, I get to sit and babysit the repair man this afternoon.

Also, my mil is supposed to be flying in tomorrow to help babysit while my mom is on vacation. Well, we found out last night that fil went into the hospital Monday night with pnuemonia. So we're scrambling to figure out childcare if she can't come. Any wfd aunties want a job?

Ok, time to hit the gym.

Very quick check in

Nola is sick  so we are in an uproar here. We just got back from the Dr, she has a bad cold and a sore throat. It is not in her ears yet, thank God! but her nose is running like a faucet. Kady went through a box of tissues on the ride to the Dr and is thoroughly grossed out :scared: Buddy had it too, was fine for two weeks and had it again. Her Dad had this and is now relapsing, it was terrible. He is worse than Buddy when it comes to just staying on the couch and he was there for 5 days. I hope this baby is nt that bad, poor Angel

Kat- Prayers and :wizard: for your house. I hope this is the right person :thumbsup2
I am hoping to hear good news about Sheryl soon :thumbsup2

Laura- Liam did great, sorry that they lost but neener neener neener to the coach! He should have played him more!

Bud would whine too ifI gave him cheese for dinner. He munches it as a starter while waiting for dinner....along with a lot of pepperoni ;)

Aimee- at least your DH shopped. Buddy would have called Marisa and sent her and given me all kinds of reasons why he did not go....all the while saying her could have shopped and cooked all at once :snooty:

Steph- I'd say send 'em here but now we have the runny nosed princess:. No one want this cold :sad2:

Ellen- how is your friend holding up? I can imagine her Marine is managing for now but he probably has not absorbed the enormity of his losses yet. His Mom has had to do this from the start :sad1:

Dinner is gong to be up in the air. Welby brought a roast that sh ehas been marinating and will not be able to cook. I think it is an eye roast and have never cooked one before. We'll see how the kids do today before I start anything.

Yesterday I started int he spare room that has become the big catch all and pulled everything out. then in the afternoon Nola started to act not right, she was just off kilter so I left the mess. It is still there and I don;t think I'll get to any of it, I cleaned the bathroom so I think I am done

MARIA- I read back and saw you asked about the race track and it was a fund raiser for "Camp Fatima" They send children with special needs to camp in the summer. And yes the weather was beautiful, you couldn't ask for a better day, good company and good weather. :thumbsup2

OK i just saw that your trip to Bermuda was a girly thing so I guess the romantic carriage ride is out of the question! Maybe a shaker of martinis with the ladies to toast the trip!

I am very worried that I haven't heard from Bob yet.

Oh no!!!! Maybe call him Kat? If she is still in recovery he won't be able to get a signal.

Marisa all I need is more "couch time".:rotfl:NAN scares me I told you that!;)
How is Kady's head doing?

Charlene, the martinis could be a great idea! Were you nervous on the scooters? Bermuda might not be the same after I'm on the streets.

Nan~ poor Nola. Poor Kady having to deal with baby boogers, I'm sure you'll make it up to her. Can't believe this summer & how sick everyone has been.
Buddy & Greg would do great together! Cheese & pepperoni is what Greg has while he's waiting for the "real food".

Lauri, 18 years old...WOW!!!! All I now is cash seems to rule but I'm sure that's different when it's your own young man.

Steph, if I wasn't sick I would be there in a minute! Prayers for your FIL. I have had Aunty duties all over the country & I LOVE IT!!!!

Calling the doctor this afternoon, my patience is about a 0 at this point.

Dinner might be a roasted chicken.
