The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Afterwards I dropped off a friend at her car, drove home, packed up my car and my mothers and headed to VA. Got there after midnight, went in, got on my jammies and went to bed.

Holy Smokes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How do you do it? :worship: It takes me a week to catch up on a vacation, no way can I go and go!

Oh, and I talked to Becky tonight. She is back, but her luggage is not. :headache:

Well that's no cool! I can't wait to hear about her trip, her photos always make me want to go to St John

Oh, and all of you did such a great job sending Liam and his team luck yesterday, that I hope you don't mind doing the same tomorrow.

Already on his side and cheering him on! I do not get the crazed parent/coach thing. When Debbie was in the All Stars in Little League the parents were horrible. It was embarrassing to be sitting in the bleachers while grown adults were trying to distract 12 year old girls from hitting the ball :sad2: I get supportive, but I thought team sports were more about character building and teaching good sportsmanship. Can't learn that when parents are out of control or when the pep noise sounds more like a World Wrestling Match

My mom is DYING right now. Course it was 106 this last week at camp with 90% humidity and I was doing that sweat in the shade thing. So. miserable.

Well, got a no on the family for Ace.

My life is completely NUTS!

Aimee- your schedule is always nuts! i would be in a cronic state of collapse if I lived youor commitments!

I wondered how your Mom was doing. AK is always so much hotter than the rest of the World :scared:

Poor Poor Ace :sad2:I am so sad for that poor puppy, he just wants his own home and I cannot imagine a better dog for kids. Kids and Lap dog are nto compatible IMO....they need a pup who can keep up with all that energy, not one ho is going to need a nap after every encounter

Well, today is the day that I try and be on somewhat of a schedule.

If you get the schedule thing down, can you share your secret with me? I am always behind, never have good time management and my husband is next to wasting away becasue the part of my day that falls apart lately is dinner.

Speaking of dinner....I have chicken I need to cook. That is all I can say about that ;)

Stephanie You got to love a man that think Fl but not in that heat.:scared:

Florida heat, Arkansas heat..it's all the same to us! I actually heard myself saying this morning, "It's only going to be 94 today." Only? But I guess since it was 103 on Saturday, that's a cool down.

Ann--good luck at the OB today! Here's hoping Emma makes her grand entrance today!

Laura--Congrats to Caili! Welcome Home Greg! And good luck to Liam!!!

Aimee--sorry it was a no for Ace. That means that the right family is just around the corner. Good luck with all you need to do this week.

Not sure wfd tonight. Think I might grill some burgers again. I do have a rack of ribs to make this week (I need to do my WFD research to find the correct way to cook them) I've never made ribs before, but it was such a great deal I couldn't pass it up. Okay, time to get the troops up and out the door.

Hi!!!!!

I have an OB appointment today at 10:45am so we will see what the plan is.

Today is my Dad's 81st birthday. I think it would be kinda nice if I had the baby today and they shared a birthday, but the way things are going I doubt that would happen.

I am thinking she is still going to be stubborn and wait to be induced, hopefully tomorrow. The end is near!!!!

:)Ann
LOTS OF LUCK TO YOU TODAY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUR DAD. MY SON WAS BORN ON MY DADS BDAY, IT MADE THE DAY EXTRA SPECIAL FOR HIM. WILL BE THINKING OF YOU TODAY.:flower3:

Howdy ya'll!

What's up? What's happenin'? What's shakin'?:lmao:

Nobody's missing anything over this way...it's been a boring kind of summer here- work, heat, work, cleaning, work.....well, you get the picture......

We started a weight challenge with a couple of friends of ours a little over 3 weeks ago- Saturday was the weigh in.....drumroll........I beat them both! Almost added together!:rotfl2: I weighed in at 12.5 lbs lighter! And that was after being naughty and eating biscuits and gravy that morning (which was delicious, by the way! and yes, I even licked the plate, I am embarrased to say) But I'm feeling better and my clothes are getting a little looser- Although I think I'm going to turn green with leaves sprouting out of my head and start breathing through gills!:rotfl:

Don't know how I'm going to manage to enjoy all the fat and calories of F&WF though!

I do have a question though- I'm getting ready to prune the cookbook hedge. Is anyone interested in some free additions to their collections? I figured I'd see if there was any interest from my sisters here before I got rid of them.:grouphug:

Oh no!:headache:

Oh, and all of you did such a great job sending Liam and his team luck yesterday, that I hope you don't mind doing the same tomorrow.

Of course!!!!:cheer2:

Well, got a no on the family for Ace. They have two preschoolers and I thought he would be perfect since he's playful and active without being too puppylike (no accidents, doesn't bite, not that manic, etc). They decided they want a lap dog and he was too playful :confused3

I burst into tears when I hung up the phone - he gets rejected and I feel rejected

My life is completely NUTS! I am in the office on Monday and then leave town for a conference in Houston the rest of the week  Oh, and I was out last week with camp (and thus have PILES on my desk) and have VBS the next week. And the server at work is screwed up so my laptop is with the tech guy tonight in hopes I can get my files tomorrow... He promised to have it to me before tomorrow night so I can bring it to Houston with me. I will need to do some major work in the hotel room.

Poor Ace, that breaks my heart.:sad1:

Aimee, I don't know how you keep up with your schedule. I get tired just reading it.

Well, today is the day that I try and be on somewhat of a schedule. After dropping A off at rec, I am heading to the gym and then this afternoon, A, T and I will go to the pool.

Good luck on that schedule!:goodvibes

That would be so sweet if they could share a birthday!

I have a baby back rib recipe that's done in the oven, but with the heat you probably don't want to put the oven on for a few hours.:sad2:

Congrats on the weight loss, great job!!!!:thumbsup2

I'd love to take the cookbooks off your hands!:goodvibes

WFD - Red beans & rice, grilled chicken sausages and creole tomatoes.

Lori Cookbooks! I am always interested in cookbooks. Let me know how much you want $$.

Lori- are any of them like Cooking 101? I could use something like that! Kat- I had to check on your dinner! :rotfl: We are bringing the boxes downstairs now!

Ann -- Good luck today! Happy birthday to your dad!

Aimee -- I am sorry the family said no to Ace. I would think a playful dog would be perfect for little kids.

If you get the schedule thing down, can you share your secret with me? I am always behind, never have good time management and my husband is next to wasting away becasue the part of my day that falls apart lately is dinner.

Lori -- Congratulations on the weight loss!

Stephanie -- The last time I made baby back ribs, I grilled them in a smoker bag. I found it at Whole Foods. I put the ribs and barbecue sauce in the bag and grilled for about 40 minutes...they were really delicious. Before I put them in the bag, I boiled them in water with beer, garlic, peppercorns and an onion for 20 minutes.

I'm not sure that Liam is going to get his game in tonight. It has been raining all morning, but thanks for the well wishes and luck. I'll keep you posted.

I'm not sure on dinner yet. It is going to depend on whether the rain stops and if the game is being played or not.

Good morning!

Well, today is the day that I try and be on somewhat of a schedule. After dropping A off at rec, I am heading to the gym and then this afternoon, A, T and I will go to the pool.

I'm glad to see you survived last week ! Try to relax and enjoy the pool!!

Kat- I had to check on your dinner! :rotfl: We are bringing the boxes downstairs now!

:lmao: It's getting close!!!!!!:yay:

My Shih Tzu is a true lap dog and I worry about how he'll do with future children - he does not appreciate being messed with when he's getting his beauty sleep in his bed

Good for you!! :yay::yay::yay:

I am making bacon wrapped pork and the orzo, the recipes I didn't make on Saturday.

Hi!!!!!

Today is my Dad's 81st birthday. I think it would be kinda nice if I had the baby today and they shared a birthday, but the way things are going I doubt that would happen.

Well there is still time to make your Dad's birthday a very special day for Emma :goodvibes Happy Birthday to your Dad and good luck!

But I guess since it was 103 on Saturday, that's a cool down.

:scared1::scared1:

Lori- Good job on the weight loss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the kudos... I didn't want to say anything until I knew I was making progress... I've had so many false starts. And I got to tell you, the biscuits and gravy weren't as good as I thought they would be (but I'll never admit that to Rick!:rotfl2:

As soon as I get things sorted I'll PM whoever is interested in the books- I'm looking to cut the collection in half! (Something's in the works that I hope comes to fruition)

Bethany- I'm sure there's a 101 book in there somewhere, but I do have a book all about history of New Orleans for you if you want it! Seeing it made me think of you!

After cookbooks comes all my other books, then the cd collection- I'm loading well over 500 cds onto the new BIG ipod- then those are outta here too!

:rolleyes1

Me thinks the Disney DVDs are staying though........

Sure Lori! We just got rid of I think all our cookbooks to move. We got rid of a ton of stuff but there is still a big pile?

Don't know how I'm going to manage to enjoy all the fat and calories of F&WF though!

I do have a question though- I'm getting ready to prune the cookbook hedge. Is anyone interested in some free additions to their collections? I figured I'd see if there was any interest from my sisters here before I got rid of them.:grouphug:

Congrats on the weight loss. And for everything you eat at F&W take a lap around the World Showcase. ;)

And that would be a negatory on the cookbooks, I have almost 2 bookshelves of them myself and really need to do a purge. :headache:

Dinner tonight will be fish and roasted veggies.

Good afternoon everyone.

Marilyn, I was so sorry we weren't able to meet up. I would have loved to meet you. I hope the heat didn't put a BIG damper on your fun. It sure did for us!! We really had to do things very differently. Anyway, I am glad you are home. and had a good time.

Laura, Yea for Liam. I hope he gets to play tonight and if they do play I am sure rooting for them. So glad to hear Greg got home and that he was able to enjoy the weekend with the Kids. Way to go Cali!!!

Ann, I am sure thinking of you today.

I am somewhat packed and ready to go again. There have been a few of you that have asked me what we are going to Panama for. Well . . . every year Doug and I go down to Panama as Missionaries. We fly out early Thursday morning and fly to Panama City. We will be there till Saturday July 4th, (so please light a sparkler for me - I LOVE 4th of July and for some reason they don't celebrate it down there. :confused3 :rotfl2:) we will drive to the Mountain town of Volcan where we sill stay at night (its cooler up there) for 10 days and each morning we go down into the village of Bongo. In trips past we have built a dining room on to a school, built a kitchen, poured cement for the Adult school and painted. This year we are hoping to build a septic tank. This a new adventure for this part of the country so please wish us luck. We will need it. We bring school supplies, clothes, shoes and of course candy for the children. Oh I could go on and on but suffice to say it is a life changing experience that is priceless. I sure could use your prayers or whatever you feel comfortable with as these trips are very hard for me as I am such a "girly girl" and this takes me right out of my comfort zone. I took a cool shower last night just to see if my shampoo will come out. Warm water, toilet paper and bug free sleeping are things I really miss and can't wait to get back home to. I'm spoiled I know!!

The boys are golfing tonight so I am on my own for dinner. I need to go to the grocery store, to stock the frig for Matthew so he doesn't starve while I am gone, :scared1: so I think I will grab a Subway on the way home.

Make it a great day my friends. I will be checking in all day to see if we have a baby yet. Good luck Ann!!!

Quick fly by lassies..

I had my first day back at work today and Im cream crackered !!

Gonnae sit ma bahookie on ma couch and......DO NOTHING !!

Love, hugs and good vibes to all who need them.

Hi everyone. Well my floor guy showed up last night around 7 pm, managed to lay about 6 planks of pergo, and chipped one which will now have to come out. He is supposed to come by tonight I guess to weave that plank out and hopefully lay 4 or 5 more. Anyway, at least we can now open the hall bathroom door all the way. It scraped on the new floor before and we were only able to open it because he hadn't put all of the flooring down the hall.

Anyway, tonight's dinner is going to be burgers with my parents. Our last family get together for a while since my sister is leaving tomorrow to head back to CA with her girls. They spent the whole day with me yesterday and I so enjoyed the girls and just hanging out with my sister. Kenny was wonderful and took the girls out on the golf cart so my sister and I could have some time together and he even chased the cat down so my youngest niece could pet her. I'll have to try to remember those things the next time he does something completely stupid and ticks me off.

Thinking of all of you. I'll try to catch up tomorrow.

I am sorry too. The heat just about killed me. I was telling everyone yesterday that it's really bad when you are standing still, in the shade at 9am sweating like a pig! :scared:

I forgot to take your number with me and didn't think about it until Wednesday and wasn't sure when you were leaving. I had PM'd asking you and didn't know if you had been able to answer, I have an un-read PM showing in my notifications but when I go to the PM's there isn't anything there. :headache:
