The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

I hope to be back to a somewhat normal schedule by Monday. My Mom is supposed to go home today...but my sister never made plans for a pick up....I hope everyone is doing well. Hugs to everyone!

I was thinking of you today

I got a call from a family interested in Ace this week! I am going to call her today to have a more in depth conversation with her and see about a meet up. She found him on Petfinder!

I hope that they fall in love with him too!!

Glynis - Your reports always make me smile.:goodvibes

Me too!

Sorry, I have not posted to anyone really. Just tired and not up to being on the computer much. If I am I tend to lurk to try to keep up with you all.

Hugs to all,
Ann

Aw Honey, you worry too much! Your job is to rest and relax. That is it. Like Kathy said, I also wish I was closer to help

The most interesting fact is that both of them were born at 4:04 -- Liam PM, and Caili AM. The reason I know this is that my birthday is also 4/04. Weird, huh?

I think that is cool!

This week was so good that I didn't arrive at home emotionally and physically worn out. I mean, I'm tired but not so tired to not enjoy dinner and dessert =)

It is about time that you take one of these trips and come home not all worn out! I'm glad that you had fun!

:rotfl: Nancy, I know it is wrong to laugh at your pain and suffering, but I have to admit that Kenny and I were both laughing last night when I read him your post about Buddy verbalizing with the news. :rotfl: I can so see that.

Amanda's trip home from camp didn't go as well. The church van broke down 2.5 hours from home. :scared1: Can you imagine being the poor adult with a van full of kids broken down in this heat?!? Bless her heart. But the kids are home and the driver seems to have remained sane.

Still no floor guy last night but he swears he will be here around 3 to finish the floor. We'll see, but that unfortunately means I won't be able to cook tonight and we are running out of decent takeout options in my small town. Oh well, I'll just take it as it comes.

:lmao::lmao: I usually tell him what I say about him but not this time :rolleyes1 He was really insulted when I told him that I knew his opinion because he had shared it over and over and over.....so I figured I better just be quiet and :happytv: with him.

Poor Amanda! Poor bus driver!

Did the floor guy make it today?

Morning, everyone! I'm celebrating here, because it seems like Timothy has finally figured out the whole day/night thing. For the last 2 nights I've put him down at 8:30, and he's slept the whole night. He'll wake up at 6:00 for a feed, and then back to sleep until 8:30! I'm feeling much more human, now!

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Dinner should be grilled steak, corn on the cob, sauteed mushrooms and a salad. That is if Buddy can get off the chair to light the grill. Today was his day for everything to break down so he spent the entire day fixing everything he wanted to use before he could use it

I am enjoying a blueberry cocktail tonight. Blueberry vodka with a little white grape concentrate and some lime juice over ice. Really good!

Welcome back, Aimee! I am glad camp went well. I hope that new family loves Ace!

The church van broke down 2.5 hours from home.
 I'm glad everyone is okay and sane. I hope tonight was the night for the floor guy to finish. Home improvements always take longer than expected.

Ann -- Don't worry about keeping up...I just want to hear how you are doing.

Glynis -- Liam has always wanted to do the Jedi Academy. I don't think he would have been as a good sport as Jacob, though, if Caili got picked instead.

Baseball update: Liam's team won! :cool1: They all played so well today. There were a lot of key hits and some good plays. The MVP of the game (unofficial, based on spectator votes) was Liam! :woohoo: He came in to pitch in the third inning with the other team ahead 1-0. Over four innings, he struck out nine, walked two, allowed one run (after his team was ahead 4-1) and made a terrific defensive play where he stabbed a hard shot up the middle, fell to his knees and fired to first base for the out. His teammates all swarmed him after he struck out the last batter to win the game.

They play for the AL championship Monday!

We had dinner with my parents this afternoon because Liam is staying there tonight because I need be out of the house at 6 am to get to Caili's skating competition. It's her District Championships. Greg is supposed to be getting here tonight sometime around midnight, so he can go. Yes, it is a busy and exciting weekend here. Hopefully, the rest of the weekend will be as great as today!

Dinner was fish tacos.

This is the cocktail that Buddy and I enjoyed at Del Friscos. It was so good. I am going to pickup a fresh pineapple and make this at home.

The VIP
By Kim Owens, general manager, Del Frisco’s, Las Vegas
1 ripe golden pineapple, sliced into
1-inch-thick chunks
1 liter premium vodka
1 orange, scored for twists for
garnishes
Soak the pineapple in the vodka in
an airtight container for eight to
ten days.
Carefully strain off the vodka and
squeeze the remaining juice from the
pineapple through cheesecloth. Pour five
to six ounces of the pineapple-vodka
infusion into a shaker half filled with ice.
Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled
ten-ounce martini glass. Garnish with an
orange twist.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: GREAT job Liam!!!!!!!

We finally had some sunshine here today. DH did his yard work and I sat on the porch blowing bubbles with DS. We headed out for an afternoon ride and DS took a brief nap. Then we took a walk around Target, hopefully to stir things up! I am so tired of going places and worrying my water is going to break when I am out and about.

Marisa, hope recovery is going well xo

Lauren, thinking of you & your Mom.

Sending love over the water (as Vickie says;))

I miss having you around...but I am so thrilled you are enjoying yourselves and relaxing. Love right back over the water at you my friend!!

I SO wish I were closer and could be helping you.

Like Kathy said, I also wish I was closer to help

You girls are soooooooo sweet. I fortunately have alot of help, but your friendships mean the world.

Kathy, DH asked me today so do I have Kathy's number in my phone yet. Do I have him trained. :lmao:

-------

WFD- cheeseburgers, chips (for DH), and DM's homemade blueberry pie with coffee ice cream for dessert.

Now, I feel crappy. Don't think the baby is leaving much room for my stomach to expand anymore.

Laura I think Lou should be calling Liam to play for the cubs they may have a spot for him ;) Does he play outfield? I think they may release MB soon. Glad to hear Greg will be home soon.

Ann

Aimeepixiedust: for little Ace finding his forever home.

Maria I hope you are enjoying your trip.

Nancy Both of those drinks sound soo good. I will have to rethink my dislike of vodka.

Glynis I love the pictures of your family and your trip report :thumbsup2

Today I woke number one son(actually only son) up early and went to the farmers market. I am surprised it was crowded but not like usual. We also went to Whole foods for cheese. Even though they sell cheese at the farmers market I am afraid. Then surprise surprise there was a Yankee candle right by the place we had lunch at. What are the chances that would happen?:rolleyes1 They were having a huge sale too

Tonight is cheeseburgers on pretzel rolls chips and fruit salad

I'll read back in a minute to see what everyone has posted today, but first I wanted to try and post the pictures Kat requested of Tory. I'm not great at this photobucket thing, so I hope this works.

This is one standing in the dining room (that has all my kitchen stuff stacked up in it).

And here is a full shot of her asleep on Kenny on the couch.

Gretchen, she is so cute. DS keeps yanking on me to lift him up so he can see the pics.

Gretchen - Tory is adorable, she looks like such a sweetheart!!! Thanks for posting!!!!:goodvibes

I am enjoying a blueberry cocktail tonight.

That sounds good! So does the VIP you posted!

DM's homemade blueberry pie

Oh YUM! Blueberry pie was my big weakness when pregnant. I used to make them all the time, justifying it by saying that I liked to drink milk with it. ;) Maybe little Emma will feel too squeezed and decide to join the world now!

Laura I think Lou should be calling Liam to play for the cubs they may have a spot for him ;) Does he play outfield?

Even though they sell cheese at the farmers market I am afraid.
 No, he usually plays infield.

Oh don't be afraid of the farmer's market cheese! It is WONDERFUL! Now, mushrooms...I'm afraid.

Thanks for the congrats for Liam. I am so proud of him. Can't you tell? He is a great kid, but he is not one to grab the spotlight (unlike his sister) so I am so happy he has had these moments to shine.

And Nancy, of course I will let you know how Caili does! I have to keep checking in here to see how Ann is doing. We are all waiting on princess: Emma, which is probably just what she wants!

ETA: Cute pictures, Gretchen!

Laura - Congrats to Liam!!!! :cool1::cool1: How wonderful!!

Nancy - That blueberry cocktail sounds fab. I'd make one tonight if I had the ingredients. But since the floor guy didn't show up  I'm going to settle for whatever I have in the cabinet.

Aimee - I hope things go well with the potential family for Ace.

Ann - Don't worry about responding, just keep us updated.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words about Tory. She really is a love. Kenny never really had a dog growing up and always wanted one. Since we got her he has made the comment several times that he never imagined he would love a dog as much as he loves her. I'm sure you all can tell from the picture of the two of them together that the feeling is mutual. :lovestruc

Evening Y'all,

Laura, :cheer2:CONGRATULATIONS LIAM!!!:cheer2: Wow what a game he had! I'm happy for him! I know you are proud & you should be! I'm also happy that Greg will be home. That will be great if he gets to be there for both Caili & Liam's big events!!! :goodvibes:lovestruc

Gretchen, Tory is a pretty girl! I sure hope your floor guy showed up. :headache:

Lauren,

Ann, Thinking & praying for Emma to hurry up! ;)

Glynis, I'm loving your TR!

Janice, I don't know how much #1 son enjoyed the day, but it sure sounds like a great day for Mom!

Nan, That drink sounds yummy. I don't know if I could wait all that time to drink it. ;)

We had plans to hit the farmer's market, but it was just too darn hot. So we hit World Market & Whole Foods. It was my kinda day!

Picked up premade asian marinated beef kabobs for dinner. Threw that on the grill with some bok choy & had some jasmine rice.

Aw, she is beautiful!!!!!!

The family interested in Ace didn't get back to me today so if I don't hear from her by the time I get out of church tomorrow, I'll call and see if we can get together tomorrow afternoon. I leave town again on Tuesday so I'm anxious to get at least a meet and greet scheduled before then if I can!

We ended up at Taco Bueno :sad2: I checked the bacon wrapped pork recipe around 630 to start dinner and realized I had to marinade it beforehand. Oh well, we'll have it Monday.

Oh Ann I am so sorry. She'll come in her own time. Hang in there:hug:

One day closer to being induced :woohoo:. At least I am getting some full nights sleep in while I can.

Thanks Lauri, hope you are well?!?!

Good Morning!

Mom went home so I have been unwinding...have some catching up to do around here so not sure about dinner. Maybe just burgers or dogs. I really cannot wait to get back on a schedule. Andrew starts summer rec tomorrow and I really need to get my **** back to the gym. I still am down about 8#s so that is good.

Ann,

Laura, Congrats to Liam! Welcome home Greg and congrats as well!

Gretchen, Tory is so cute! I sam glad that she is bringing such happiness to your family.

Maria, glad you are having a great time! Happy Belated Anniversary!

Kat, Thanks for the link to the food and wine info! Can't wait!

Marisa, How are you feeling?

Glynis, Yay for Timothy!

I know I missed alot more. I hope to get back on track soon! Going to go out in the hot tub now to have coffee.

Have a great day!
