The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Okay, what's going on around here? I'm gone forever fully expecting to here about Emma when I get back and nothing. I do hope you are somewhat comfortable Ann.

There is no possible way I can catch up here. The kiddo and I just got back from a last minute trip to New York, which meant we had to drive back to Cape Cod on a friday- traffic wasn't horrible but it was heavy. My new favorite person is whoever invented portable dvd players.

I got a call saturday night that my dad had to have his appendix out. It had burst without him knowing so appendix juice oozed into his system. They got it under control just fine, but he did have to stay in the hospital for a few extra days. Of course my parents are moving out of their house this week, and my dad can't drive or lift anything so I had to go help them pack. Now it is no secret they were moving, so I don't know why they still had that much stuff in the house- I was not happy.

I'm really glad my dad's okay, next to my husband he's my best friend, but I'm just a little frustrated with the lack of packing they had done. My husband better not have finished my scotch while I was away, I'm planning on having a bit more than a nip tonight.

Okay, enough complaining, my parent's haven't certainly helped me more than enough times.

Glynis- I'm so happy for Mary, and you too. She must be on the top of the world.

I have no idea what's for dinner, and good luck to the first person who asks me, they better be a safe distance away.

Quick check in.....where is Emma???

I ever have Greg calling my phone to make sure I get service:)

Nancy I am so glad you feel the same way about Michael Jackson. I feel almost like he is taking something away from Farrah by dieing on the same day. Farrah gave a her cancer a courageous battle to the end.

I think that the documentation the Farrah did during her cancer struggle was amazing. What started out as a way for her to remember all the Dr said gave insight into the life of a woman who was battling a very embarrassing form of cancer. Her courage in sharing her journey must have been so inspirational to those folks who had that form of cancer. I had heard that once she knew that there were people who could benefit from her documentation she continued to videotape the visits. I truly admire her for this, cancer is never pretty, as too many of us know firsthand, but to those suffering with cancers that are not "mainstream" knowing that you are not alone must have been a Godsend.

We are still here. Dr appointment today at 3:30. I am now just hoping for this weekend during the day would be nice for everyone watching DS. At least she waited for my SIL & DB to be out of school. Both are teachers and are oncall to help with DS.

See.....she is considerate:thumbsup2

Well, I better get myself going. Today is the last day of Emma's soccer camp and it's "Parent Day" Which apparently means I have to participate along with the kids. I have never been the most athletic person (especially in team sports requiring any coordination) Just hoping I don't hurt myself. This camp is fun for the kids--It's a British Soccer camp and they bring the coaches over from the UK. Emma came home the other day telling me her coach spoke Chinese. I had to explain to her that he speaks English even though he has an accent.

Love the Chinese accent :lmao::lmao:

Laura- I was always the last kid called in recess. I do not think I would be participating. Years ago I was in a project for my job that was not up and running. We had to keep busy all summer long so my supervisor had team building exercises the entire time. Yup.....volleyball, softball, hiking, I sure loved that summer!:scared:

Where did you hear about this dr. giving him drugs to get through a show? I hadn't heard or read that anywhere?

I heard that Michael was getting Oxycontin shots every day and that his car was impounded.

Mary's took the longest. Because she's a twin, she and Leslie shared the nutrients in the womb. Leslie was getting the most, and Mary's baby teeth came in rotten; well at least the 4 front top teeth, did. It's really been affecting her self esteem! The dentist didn't want to do anything at our last visit, because he felt like they would fall out soon. However, they are hanging on! Because of our insurance, he decided to scrape away all the rotten area, and reconstruct her teeth. Can I just say he does beautiful work!!!! My little girl cannot stop smiling at herself! She is so proud of her new teeth!!!

I cannot wait until I can see Mary's brand new smile!

Glynis- I'll keep Allan in my prayers. I hope that the economy turns around quickly, too many people are either out of work, working less or worried about not having a job.

I am really not even prepared for his arrival. The house is a disaster; there is no food in the refrigerator...I have a lot to do today!

It really does look like Liam will finally get his game in tonight. I will check in again tonight after the game...hopefully, with good new!

Greg will be thrilled just to be home and won't even notice the house.

I sure hope Liam can play. It is pouring here, hailing in Unionville and looks like winter there, structure fires in Torrington from lightening strikes.

Starting out by smoking some heads of garlic, and some Spam. I am going to use these later for ingredients in a potato dish I am going to make on the smoker... Spam augratin..

I am also going to smoke a couple slabs of BB ribs my usual way.

The Spam augratin will be sliced potatoes, sliced onion, a homemade cheese sauce, smoked spam, smoked garlic, and topped with shredded cheese.. prepared on the smoker while my ribs are on.

I would be as large as a house if I lived with you :rotfl2: I could never resist!

It is raining here again today. I
I am unpacked and the wash is started. But I only have 5 more days to get it all finished and packed up again, because we leave for Panama on Wednesday night, as we have a 8 am flight on Thursday morning. No rest for the wicked. LOL

I am sad to say that I have gained 4 pounds while I was gone on vacation.

You are just a travelin Gal!

Don't sweat the weight gain, it will come off. I gained almost 7 pounds the week I went to Disneyland with my sister. In my defense there was comfort food and comfort wine............we were visiting my sister's 20 YO DD :rolleyes1. I love her dearly but I think if Gail had gone alone we would have found her curled up in a fetal position whimpering. :dance3: Nothing but Pie, cake, ice cream and wine wine wine helped!

I got a call saturday night that my dad had to have his appendix out. It had burst without him knowing so appendix juice oozed into his system.

I am so glad that he is alright! You all must have been so scared!

I hear you on the packing. My son bought my sister's house and thank goodness it was him. Gail is normally so organized, every time Dan said nothing was packed I told him to calm down, it would get done. It did. I showed up to help and she had just started her first box! I called Buddy's cousin Sharon and sent Gail to her new home to get started there and we dove in. Debbie showed up and the three of us worked for two solid days packing and moving boxes of stuf. There was more stuff than I have ever seennin my entire life!

It took her a week to come and get the miscelaneous stuff out from the basement. She just got so overwhelmed that she did not know wher to start so she didn't. I could nto say a word, it had happened to me and on moving day she and my brother came and fainted.

DInner is leftovers from last night. I am not hungry, Kady and I went out to lunch togather. I think I am going to indulge in a cocktail or two. Buddy is home. He is parked in front of the TV. The news. All Michael All night. He hates him and is verballizing :headache: I have asked him to watch Andy Griffith, he has 40 on the DVR btu so far he is trapped in a train wreck! And I am threatening to go watch TV in the bedroom!

Trying to briefly catch up, my internet has been off and on all day.

Kat & Sheryl ~ I was so excited when LSU won. We flew into Omaha on Tuesday night and stayed over until Wednesday. The Hotel we were at was full of LSU fans. I know this sounds real funny but I really felt close to you somehow. Weird huh. :confused3 Omaha was a mad house. Was real tickled that they won. I was sure rooting for them.

Not weird at all!!;)

Puppy update, please feel free to skip:

I would never skip a puppy update! Poor baby, hoping and praying she's negative. What is her name? Pic please!!!!!

I got a call saturday night that my dad had to have his appendix out. It had burst without him knowing so appendix juice oozed into his system.

That can be quite dangerous, so glad he's OK.

Waiting to hear from Ann!!!!!!!!!

They're re-airing the documentary tonight, it was amazing.

It will be interesting to see if they try and cover up the autopsy results.

I can picture Buddy verbalizing in front of the TV...:rotfl2:

Kathy- he is not a pretty sight. Thank God he put Lucy on.....I was

Bethany--what's up with the puppy????? She is so cute but is she yours?

It is a good thing I am holding stedfast to paying down bills not adding to. I went to the Doorway to Dreams this afternoon after going to Ikea. The new Bay Lake Tower rooms are beautiful. Much nice than the pictures I saw.

Nancy I'm with Buddy what an incrediable waste of talent. His crimes though convicted are still crimes in my book. I am usually the glass half full kind of person and will give someone the benefit of the doubt. I can't do that when it involves children.

Stephanie I am an uncoordinated mess myself. I hope you did well.

Gretchen I had a dog that was allergic to grass and fleas. She had lost her hair on her face. It was a pretty funny sight. But who has ever heard of a dog being allergic to grass and fleas:confused3

Grr...Liam's game got postponed again. It is beautiful and sunny, but the field is flooded. They are rescheduled for tomorrow morning at 8! I am not happy, especially since Caili and I have to be out of here at 6 AM on Sunday to make her skating competition. Liam is upset too. He was really pumped up for the game. Oh well...nothing we can do about the weather, I guess. Have I mentioned that it is supposed to rain all night? If I get to the field tomorrow at 7:40 for warm-ups and find out the game is postponed again I am going to be .:furious:

I'll see if I can grab a picture of Mary's new smile, today!

I know it was a lot of money and time, but you must think it worth it to see your little girl so happy with her smile. I can't wait to see it!

I cannot wait to get into a routine again.

That was the toughest thing for me as a new mom...I never knew when I was going to be able to sleep, shower, eat, etc. Hang in there. The routine will come.

Jay is still in Georgia. He is to have a few days of R & R starting July 3rd. Elizabeth is jumping on a plane to go see him.

I hope they have a wonderful time. I don't know how your daughter will react, but I always look at those unexpected visits as bonus time. The leaving doesn't hurt as much because I never expected to have those moments in the first place.

She always stands so still for Hailey to pet her. And she eats the crumbs around where Hailey is so there is less sweeping for me. Gotta love a house cleaning pooch.

That's adorable. I hope the puppy feels better soon. Thank you so much for the recipe. It sounds delicious!

My husband better not have finished my scotch while I was away, I'm planning on having a bit more than a nip tonight.

:rotfl2: You are in a rare mood! I am glad your dad is okay, but :headache: on the packing. I hate packing. And unpacking. I've told Greg more than once I am never moving again.

See.....she is considerate:thumbsup2

Laura- I was always the last kid called in recess.

I love Nancy's take on Emma's delay!

Nancy -- I was too. I was too small. I didn't have bad coordination, but I had a complete lack of power and no speed. Now, as an adult, I did play for my office's softball team, and I wasn't a liability. That's about all I can claim. ;)

Okay, was Hoping for a baby update. But maybe no news is good news.

I survived soccer camp. Boy, it was hot! But Emma had a great time having us there. And, no, we didn't k ow until yesterday about the parent participation. We are headed out for pizza soon. And then the camp coaches are playing a match tonight against some local coaches. Should be a good time.

Laura--ugh on the game being rescheduled again. Sounds like our spring soccer season

Kathy-I noticed the f&w updates on page one--I'll probably be joining you for crusing and cocktails on Sunday. Will know more the closer it gets.

Gretchen- I meant to tell you that I always get a :goodvibes when you tell us about Hailey and now your new little bald puppy!

Laura- GRRRRRRR to the rain! Buddy heard the weather, called it a "wall of water" headed our way. We discussed it and decided that work would be out. Then he scheduled guys for tonight and tomorrow! Are you kidding me? It is 3 pm! Yup...rained out.

Ellen- your DD will be so happy to get this visit. Timmy came home unexpectedly and to was a blessing. as Laura said, a bonus visit is :thumbsup2

Thanks for the recipes :thumbsup2

Okay, left the Dr. office today a bit frustrated. Still holding at 4 cm. & 50% efaced. This Dr. said the head was not engaged yet. They had me on a monitor for 20 minutes due to being overdue. She commented how strong of a heartbeat the baby had. They are estimating the baby to be 8 lbs. The doctor stripped my membranes, so pray it makes something happen. (feeling crampy right now, but who knows)

So what is next. I have an appointment scheduled for monday at 10:45am. If I make it to then without the baby then they will induce me, most likely Tuesday at 41 weeks.

BBL, to catch up...thanks all ...sorry for the delay, and constant updates!

Cali Grill sunday night ?

I think thats all I can go to and I so want to meet youse !! :flower3:

Im sad about MJ.

His music was all through my growing up years and he made me love music.

And as for the allegations I found the parents settling very strange.

Would you take the coin or would you not want justice for the abuse of your child?

Just a different take on it.

Ann - The boy was 2 weeks over and my labour lasted 20 minutes....just a thought !!

Ann--been there done that with my Emma. Not fun! My ob told me that stripping membranes works 50% of the time. I wasn't part of the 50%. ob wanted to do it a 2nd time and I refused.

Vickie--already signed up for cg. That's a must!

It worked last time with DS. My water broke the next morning.
Today I had to hold back from taking a swat at the Dr. as she did it...it was so darn uncomfortable. Crampy and light spotting now, TMI...sorry for the over-sharing.

Thinking of you and praying that Emma makes her appearance very soon.

I'M FREE!!! party: I got done with the cleaning and paperwork around 3:30, but had to wait until 4 to park in front of the school to load up my personal stuff into the rental car. I left about 5 (I was chatting with a few people) and then got caught in a really nasty thunderstorm on the way home.

I really am glad I DON'T have a car here on a regular basis. Driving here too much could land me in a psych ward. :scared: I find it easier to drive in Manhattan than the Bronx. The Bronx is like some sort of free for all...but if you just drive in both lanes at one time, it's harder for people to cut you off. :rolleyes1

Bethany--what's up with the puppy????? She is so cute but is she yours?

Yes, she's mine. :goodvibes I don't have her yet because she's been busy watching LSU baseball on television. :rotfl:

I knew I wanted to get a dog after I moved. I was expecting having to go to a shelter or something to find a dog. I was not expecting the dog to come to me! I got a text from my friend in BR asking me if I was interested in taking in a dog that had been abandoned on the side of the road (in Baton Rouge). The crazy thing is that I had been looking on Petfinder but quit looking because I wasn't seeing the dog I had in mind on the site. Well, I got home and saw the picture of the dog...it is the same dog I had in my mind of what I wanted it to look like!

She's been looked at and is in good health; estimated to be about 5 weeks old and is about 2 pounds. They think she'll get to be about 15 pounds full grown. She's a mix of :confused3. My friend is keeping her for another week or so.

What are you sorry for? You did not choose the delay and it's not your fault! And PLEASE keep us updated! :goodvibes

I hope you were close to the hospital! Both of mine were two weeks late. Liam took quite a while and Caili was a lot less. The most interesting fact is that both of them were born at 4:04 -- Liam PM, and Caili AM. The reason I know this is that my birthday is also 4/04. Weird, huh?

:yay: Bethany on making it through the year! I guess I missed the puppy update from you, but I'm glad you found one.

Ann -- I hope you have little Emma in your arms soon!

I probably won't get to check in here again until tomorrow night. I'll be thinking of Ann, and of course everyone else. Have a good Saturday!

I hadn't really said anything about it here. I posted a pic of her on Facebook and said she needs a name. I'm going to wait until I see her to see what name fits her. I have gotten a lot of good ideas. :goodvibes

The 404 thing is a little spooky.
