The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Lauren -- Congratulations to Andrew! Does he move up to middle school next year? I hope you have a good week with your mom.

Kathy -- Yes, Liam and Caili do keep me, and everyone else, laughing. My dad has been unemployed for a long time, and he really needs to get out of the house, so he took a job at a new store that is opening just for something to do. When Liam heard about it, he exclaimed in utter disbelief, "You're going to be a SALESPERSON?" We were all practically crying we were laughing so hard. My dad hates both shopping and customers, so we are all :confused3, but for Liam to express that so spontaneously just slayed us.

The weather is still miserable here. We're having a quiet morning, but this afternoon Caili has a birthday party to attend and then skating. I think we'll probably just have pizza for dinner.

Good Morning All!

I am finally caught up here on the WFD so all is right in my world :thumbsup2

I am going to try to do this from memory, I am an old gal so apologies up front!

Ann- Don't worry about your mood, you can be a little crabby right now. I understand little Emma....no sharing a day for her......she want's her own!

Lauren- I chuckle thinking of your Mom and her scotch. I love a lady who knows that a little sip in the afternoon makes a world of difference. Make sure you have one too ;)

:cheer2: for Andrew the new 6th grader!

Glynis- I am enjoying your trip report. The pictures of your kids are darling but I also am partial to the ones with your Dad. We enjoyed the Park Vue Inn as well and also sat on the roof top patio to enjoy the fireworks display. I hope that all signs of the flu are gone now

Janice and Laurie- I thought of the two of you when I heard the weather report. Soggy basements are no fun!

SHeryl- I understand why your would consider putting the surgery off. I know that you will make a decision that makes the best sense for you and your family, I don't envy that you need to do this. How was Alexis show?

Kathy- I bet Kyle is lookig forward to moving to his new home! Mom not so much though  I have to tell you that while I was sad tha Marisa and her family was moving it has been a nice change for Buddy and me. I miss them but I am enjoying how happy I feel when I have not seen my Princess for a few days. The anticipation is fun!

Bethany- I can't wait for you to get to your new home! Chopped :lmao: You have got to :happytv: that show and see how your picture fits perfectly!

Aimee- have a great time at camp!

Laura- those two kiddos of your make me :goodvibes! Auntie Beckie must be the best Auntie if she brings the Sunshine with her when she leaves :cloud9:

I'll be thinking of Liam and "that" coach. Hope his team wins!

After the 16+ hour drive back home from St. Pete on Saturday into Sunday, I really needed a bbq fix for dinner last night. I couldnt find any babybacks, so I smoked some rib tips, and also what I am calling breakfast baseballs. Baseball sized hardboiled egg, rolled in breakfast sausage, wrapped in bacon, and then smoked. excellent outcome

We ate well in Orlando, and I am going to post my pics on a seperate/new thread in the next few minutes. We didnt go to the crawfish boil, and we replaced a visit to Roy's. with a 2nd visit to Johnnies Hideaway. We also did (2) day trips one to Daytona(nothing special to eat there), and to St. Pete on Saturday(some good food there).

We had a great time in NYC this weekend but we are both glad to be home. I had to change our plans a little due to the rain in the forecast. Friday turned out to be a nice day, we arrived early and were surprised to find out room ready if we took a Queen instead of a King room. The room was smaller that we are used to but we were on 6th Ave so I was not complaining! WE had a NBC movie and show tour booked that morning so we headed right out to catch the bus after a quick breakfast at Micky D's! Yup..I had a bacon, egg and cheese muffin which was so good and a gynormous iced coffee!

Ladies, neither one of us has seen all of those shows and movies that were and are filmed in NYC but I confess that when I got to see all of the spots in Enchanted I was :cloud9: Buddy did not care about anything once he found out he was going to sit on Dr. Huxtable's stoop :woohoo: We are pathetic!

The tour was fun and we did enjoy it. Back to the hotel to rest and then and early dinner at Del Frisco's. The cocktails there were so good. We had a VIP martini which was basically pineapple vodka YUM! I had a bone in filet which was cooked to pefection, buddy had a boneless rib eye. A squash medley with tomatoes were beautifully seasoned with rosemary and thyme. I also tried the horseradish and cayenne mashed potatoes which were very good. DH also had a tomato and onion salad with green goddess dressing. I could drink that stuff! Dessert was a 7 layer chocolate mouse cake iced with a think fudgey ganache. Buddy was not hungry for dessert but took one for the team and agreed to help me eat it. No way! so we took it back to the hotel before heading back out to see 9 To 5. (This was one funny fun play!) Buddy got "buggy ride" for us but was convinced that we would be dead before the night was over :rotfl: There are guys on bicycles with little carraiges and they are strong! I had so much fun he hired one for the ride back, thank goodness. I had not worn those shoes in a long time and I remembered why Friday night!

Saturday morning was drizzly so we just meandered aroung in search of breakfast and enjoying the streets. We loved the street venders that had set up shop. We had made an appointment to check out the Hilton time shares and really wanted it to work for us. It did not. $49,000 :scared1:. The saleslady found one deeded in Orlando for $23,000 but maintainance was $1100 a year. She was good though, molded her background to ours but totally fell apart when she tried to explain that this was a good investment and would be worthy of financing, after all her Dad, a cash man from way back decided that he needed a piece of farm equipment and financed it. The only problem was that she did not know a harvester from a tractor from a corn chopper :rotfl:

We both wanted it to work for us but really could not justify the cost of a Hilton package. I think we would consider it another time.

We decided to just hang out at the hotel for the next few hours and then an early dinner at Galleghers. What a great meal that was. We both had the prime rib with mashed potatoes and carmelized onions. Dry aged beef at it best! We had their house label wine which was very good. Then to the Orpheum Theater for Stomp. That was awesome!

Sunday was a NBC studio tour which we both enjoyed.

Ladies we had a wonderful time. My normally frugal husband let himself go :lovestruc I had researched some reasonable restaurants for dinner with suggestions from Maria to make sure I was not chosing dives, but he vetoed them. We spent time in the cocktail lounges in the hotel, and he did struggle a bit with $10 Bud's and $15 glasses of wine but all in all he let his inner spender out.

Sunday I knew it was time to go home when we stopped at teh Magnolia Bakery for a cupcake that the NBC page told me would be better thatn chocolate at the chocolate shop and was charged $2.50 per cupcake. They were not that good, a little dry with a "crummey" texture. He declared that mine were better and 1/4 the price. Yup...time to go home. His inner spender was again securely locked up :rotfl2:.

We liked the street food. Buddy had several "hot puppies" and I had a gyro.

We came home to a ticket! We parked in a restricted area in the parking garage....I guess that was why the parking spot was so good :rolleyes1 We were lucky that we did not get towed so no complaining!

Dinner will be grilled chicken and salad. I have got to undo the damage I did with three days of no holds barred eating!

My Mom is coming tomorrow so I need to get the house cleaned up a bit, the fridge stocked and run to the liquor store and get some more scotch!!!

I am going back to the gym today and really need to get back on track. I am looking forward to it.
I am making Chicken Stir Fry and Brown Rice.

Is yer mum a Malt or Blend drinker ?

Nothin better than a wee nip on a night !! :)

Ive not been to training since January and I miss it so much.

I know my fitness is way off and bits are starting to wobble but its also the buzz I miss.....:sad1:

Have fun.

I got a charity bag through the door to fill so I spent this morning gutting out my wardrobe.

Sad thing is most stuff is going straight to the bin,not even good enough for charity and its all stuff I have been walking about in.

I then started on the boys wardrobe and all his stuff is in good nick and all new or newish !!

I guess thats how it goes when youse have bairns....last in line.

I need my trip to the Florida outlets fast !!

Nancy - Your weekend sounds great...Im so glad Buddy found his inner spender !!

NYC is a place I would love to visit.

Someday when the boy is a wee bit bigger I hope we will get.

Have a good day lassies BBL x

NANCY- Well it sounds like you had a nice time. The tour sounds like fun. Sorry you got a ticket though. WOW! the Hilton timeshare is pricey! I wouldn't have bought that either.

Welcome home!!! Would you please post a link to the thread here?

Nancy - Sounds like a great weekend.:cloud9: Too funny about Buddy's inner spender.

I am working on posting now, I dont know how to link the new post but it is under the dining reviews section "King Crabs Disney, and other Dining reviews June 2009".

Nancy -- It sounds like you had a great time. I was laughing about Buddy's inner spender.

Kingcrab -- Welcome back!

Vickie -- I have a bag that I am putting together as well, and like you, most of my clothes would not even be suitable for charity. I keep putting them in there though because one consignment shop said that even the clothes that aren't in good enough condition for resale get sold in bulk to a place that recycles the material.
