The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Good Morning!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is rainy and chilly here but at least it is not snowing.

Bethany- I thought that certified mail was safe mail?????? That really stinks!

Sheryl- From the mouths of babes! I bet you all were the Fanciest Gals in that restaurant and our Alexis knew it! :goodvibes You are sure one great Nana! and I know that having her around brightens your day!

Buddy has finally learned how to ask about WW without becoming potential freezer fodder. I still have not forgiven him for asking "Do you really need that cookie?" though ;)

Lauren- you are one busy Mom!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ann- are your parents keeping your little guy while you are in the hospital? From a Nana POV, I can tell you he will have the time of his life if they do. When Kady was little she used to hide in our room when Marisa and Jeff got ready to leave...... she though that if she could not see them they could not se her little self behind our bed :rotfl:

Becky-I am not an adventurous cook but I think I can make those ribs :thumbsup2 Thanks!

DInner last night was a chuck wagon casserole that was really good. I made it twoce, once on Friday to take to gfails and last night for us. If anyone wants the recipe I will post it.

I think Nola and I may head to the store so dinner will be whatever looks good.

Marisa, How could you spill the beans on Nan??? Now you have to give her your miles!!! ;)

I would call today and extend my credit with southwest if she would go! So you talk her into it and I will take care of the airfare. I will even volunteer to watch Nola so Welby doesnt have to take time off. See I am nice! I have tried like crazy to get her on a plane to NOLA to see everyone. She would love it, and I just can't do it. I think I will pack for her and just drop her off at the airport. We live about 8 minutes from the airport here so I bet she would just find her way home :rotfl2:

Sheryl, did you get my email yesterday? I have 8 more codes to send you today but I wanted to make sure the ones from yesterday worked! Alexis is hilarious! I cant see the pictures at work, so I will log on tonight!

Maria, I hope you feel better soon, or we might have to take a road trip to take care of you! Nan makes a killer soup!

Bethany, I hate dealing with the post office. I hope they find your package!

Good Morning ! WOW ! ALOT GOES ON HERE ! I will do my best to try and keep up.

LAUREN- Love the new picture ! Its suppose to be nice out this weekend so your mom will enjoy sitting out with you guys and holding the baby. How is Tom feeling ? better I hope and off to work. ;)

MARIA-Hope your feeling better today ! The lounge at the new Contemp. is only for quest staying at the resort there is very limited space, I dont know why they made it so small :confused3

SHOVAN-She is a cutie! looking forward to meeting you in October

KATHY- Even though we cant access the lounge, you got my vote for California Grill:thumbsup2

ANN- You must be counting down the days!

NANCY- That would be nice if you can get away . I had friends that lived in Seymour Conn. its so nice there.

I must say I do look forward to posting here ! Thanks for the warm welcome!

WFD I DONT HAVE A CLUE ! but I did buy Mango Margherita mix yesterday to try so i am looking forward to that !! Hope everybody has a great day !

Talk with Lauren and if y'all want to go there or Citricos, JIKO, Flying Fish just let me know before 7/19 when I make the ADR's.;)

Morning all, hope everyone is well today

Sheryl- Wonderful news about Debi! It sounds like the three of you had a great day, she must be loving her summer vacation.

Charlene- I do my best to keep up, but it never happens. I just scroll down on the posting page as far back as the recent posts go.

Nancy- Chuck wagon casserole sounds like something they would like here, I'd like the recipe. So where are you staying when you fly down to meet the other ladies?

Kathy- I've gotten pretty good at hiding things in the back of the fridge if I don't want them finished, that black bean dip sounds good, I'll have to look for it next time.

Lauren- I love the new picture! I'm glad to here the steak is tender, I've thought of getting it often but my jaw can't take to much chewing. I'll have to give it a try. Have you tried their frozen chocolate crossiants? Trader Joe's is about 40 minutes from us, so I keep a running list of our favorites. Next time if you haven't yet, get a box of the gorganzola crisps. They are like cheezits for adults.

Ann- I'm sure Luke will have a great time with your parents, and he's with them so often I'm sure he'll be fine. I know you know that too, but he's your little guy, I understand. Has he ever been with them overnight before?

Aimee- I don't know how you do it, I'm still getting adjusted to my 8 hour work days. As long as I don't sit down when I get home I'm good, once I sit for a minute, I'm done.

Last night we had steak and onions, corn, and sweet pototo fries. Tonight we are having tacos.

He'll be with your parents? They will make sure he's not scared.

He will be with my parents for part of the time and most likely my DB & SIL (his godparents) the rest. It really depends what time of day I go. I am hoping I deliver during the day so he can sleep at home with Ron. I am not worried about him being with my parents...he loves them to pieces and they spoil him rotten. But he is alot of work for them right now. A couple of hours is fine but lifting him is to much for them with all their aches and pains lately. I worry about him and them also. My DM is going to try to have my niece stay with her to help if she has Luke. He is standing at the door right now with his bag of toys saying, "come on mommy I go to grammy's!"

BBL this afternoon sometime.
Ann

Hello Gals!

Better today.

I just tried Vickie & her cell is off so I don't want to call her house in case she's sleeping~ I will try early evening UK time. I was also thinking the UK keeps you in the hospital a long time not like they throw us out-

I found out that JAMES TAYLOR is going to be our entertainment for the transatlantic cruise!!!! I love him so that's very exciting for me.

Did everyone hear about the arrest at the GF last night?

Charlene~ now you have me thinking should I change to CR so we can try the lounge??? hmmmmm

Bethany~ just s few more weeks for you!

I'm thinking pasta for dinner~~~

/
MARIA- There are going to be alot of restrictions on the lounge usage, as a resort guest you would be allowed, but anybody else would not be able to go.

Ann, be sure to update us later. Glad you are enjoying Ron being home nights! So happy for your family!!!

Ann--How old is Luke? My Emma wasn't even 2 when DS was born. We were living in Wisconsin at the time and my parents were 15 hours away. We saved a frequent flier ticket for my mom, so we could book her a ticket at the last minute. I remember that last week being terrified of what would happen to Emma if I went into labor early. I put my foot down with my OB and told him that I needed to be induced on my due date b/c I needed to make sure that my other child was taken care of. Luckily, he understood. And I think Emma loved being with her grandma anyway. The funniest thing is that Emma knew that the baby was in my tummy, but she's convinced he came out of my belly button (or as she says, Baby Button) :lmao: I suppose for the time being we'll just let her believe that.

Sheryl--I've said this before, but Alexis is a doll! Too bad we don't live closer, I'm sure my Emma and your Fancy Nancy would hit it off immediately!

WFD I think will be pasta of some sort. My mom is on cooking duty again. We leave tomorrow around 2, so I have got to get packing this morning. We're trying to get away with only checking out carseats, so we don't have to pay for any checked baggage. Pray for me! But at least, since the kids can take a carry on and their backpacks, we should have plenty of room. Okay, time to get moving

Thanks everyone for saying nice things about my new pic! Andrew just adores Thomas and loves helping with him so I love to get pics of them together. Every day after school he has to take him for a while.

Nancy, Marisa and everyone else should try for an October trip!!! ;)

LAUREN- Its suppose to be nice out this weekend so your mom will enjoy sitting out with you guys and holding the baby. How is Tom feeling ? better I hope and off to work. ;)

Just think...5pm every day my Mother is here is happy hour. That is the time she has her 1 scotch and water!!! You know how she is...she is getting worse though. Fiesty as heck...the other day she wished Jane Merry Christmas and Happy New Year...I won't even go into what happened yesterday. Very sad.

Your brother is off to work. I think he is feeling better but it will linger for a while...you know how he is!

Enjoy your margaritas...I was thinking of getting Tom the machine you have for Father's Day but then we would never lose weight. Maybe next year!

Talk with Lauren and if y'all want to go there or Citricos, JIKO, Flying Fish just let me know before 7/19 when I make the ADR's.;)

I am game for anything...I think we can make the ADRs before you can since we get there on the 16th so I can make them. Charlene also mentioned some card she has that can get 20% off some places for up to nine people so maybe we can factor that in if that is OK with Charlene and everyone (more $$$ for drinking!!!).

Glad you like the TJs stuff. The cookies are good but not over the top good.

Just make sure to get the flat iron and not the carne asada one...that one was tough. I will keep the croissants and crisps in mind for next time. Ours is 40 minutes away too.

How is work going?

I just tried Vickie & her cell is off so I don't want to call her house in case she's sleeping~ I will try early evening UK time. I was also thinking the UK keeps you in the hospital a long time not like they throw us out-

Did everyone hear about the arrest at the GF last night?

Thank you for trying Vickie!

YAY for JT! Bruce goes on sale on Monday too! I should try for tickets.

Did they say why that mother went to Disney? What a loon!

OK, off to get T dressed, me showered and more cleaning before Market Day. Caio for now!

MARIA- There are going to be alot of restrictions on the lounge usage, as a resort guest you would be allowed, but anybody else would not be able to go.

Good point....Are you & Lauren renting a car? I ask so you could drive over by BC, everyone could meet for a glass of Nuvo & then all head into Epcot via World Showcase! Maybe the Jellyroll night?

Nancy~ did you book yet???;)

I had a dream last night that we all opened a B&B, everyone was happy because we rotated when we worked, one month at a time. The gals that have little ones took the summer so they wouldn't have to leave their families & could bring them along. The B&B was very close to your house Nan....is there something for sale by you?

Steph~ this AI controversy is really making me mad....They need to leave that guy alone. Enough aready!

Maria, We are not renting a car but can get a cab no prob...

We have 3 nights...Fri, Sat and Sun...Kat gets in on Sat so we have to save really fun stuff for Sat Sun!!! ;)

What fun it would be to run a B&B!

Stephanie, have an awesome trip and a very...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

PS: I wanted to make that a colorful HB, but I cannot change colors for some reason so pretend it's lime green!!! ;)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEPH!
enjoy your weekend!

Happy Birthday Stephanie!

I changed the menu last night. I ended up making a croque madame, which is basically a grilled cheese sandwich with an egg on top, and an arugula and strawberry salad. I macerated the strawberries in some aged balsamic vinegar. They were really good.

Tonight I am thinking pasta, like most of the ladies on the thread, apparently! I saw a recipe in the new cooking light for a fresh tomato-herb sauce that sounded really good, and I have some big tomatoes to use up. They suggested a buttermilk salad dressing to go with it which also sounded good. I'll probably make some garlic bread too.

Hi Everyone! I caught up, but this is a quick check-in.

Sheryl -- Great news about Debi! Your pictures of Alexis are adorable as always.

Welcome, Charlene!

Janice -- That pie sounds so good.

I know a few of you asked when Greg is home until, but he doesn't know yet. The only thing we are pretty certain about is that he doesn't have to report to training tomorrow.

Stephanie -- Happy birthday! Have a great trip. And good luck on the packing!

Lauren -- Love the new picture!

Bethany -- I hope they found your package. That stinks!

I am taking a short break from cooking. We are having a few neighbors over for drinks and food this evening. I am making steak fajitas, pico de gallo, guacamole, corn salsa, buffalo chicken dip (Greg's request), and brownies, strawberries and s'mores for dessert. I wish the weather was nicer, but it should be fun. Okay...back to cooking and cleaning!

Oh...I probably won't get back here until after the weekend. Liam has baseball games the next three days. Enjoy your weekend!

Happy Birthday, Stephanie! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I am doing another drive-by post... lots to get done today! DH went to OK for a family funeral today so I have to leave work by 6pm to go pick up our new chair at the furniture distribution center. If DH was in town to do it, I'd stay and work later tonight. I'll post pics once we get home with it! :yay:

Tonight I am making three bean stew with some shredded chicken. It's a new Rachael Ray recipe.

:banana:Happy Birthday Stephanie!!! I love the Baby button story so darn cute. DS is 2.5, so I am sure you can relate. We have alot of family around but between everyones work schedules and his comfort level my parents are the best option.

Aimee, can't wait to see the new chair.

Maria, JT...wow, I would love that too!!! You are going to have such a wonderful time. I loved your B & B dream.

Kathy, you are all killing me with the F&W chat. How is Kyle making out umpiring?

Lauren, how is your DH feeling?

Vickie, I know you are not around but sending good wishes anyway!!

Laura, have a fun party tonight. The menu sounds yummy!!!

Hugs to all I have forgotten to mention.

-----

DH got a call from his new job today. They are putting him on light duty and keeping him close to the office until I deliver. I thought that was real nice since he is brand new.

Dr. update....all is great. Baby and I are both fine. No change to my cervic yet, which it is a bit early anyway. Emma's heartbeat was a healthy 148.
They did my strep B culture today and I have to wait for results. I was up 5 lbs since last appointment, so that makes my total weight gain 7lbs. Which I am pleased with but I am sure more pounds are coming at the end. I am now on a weekly visit schedule. Dr told me just to take it easy and not overdue it...where have I heard that!!!;)

Ann;)

Ann- Sounds like Ron will be working at a great place, that's wonderful they are doing that.

Happy Birthday Stephanie!!!

Maria- I'd love to stay at your B&B, but my days of working at one are over. One thing I love about the job I have now is it has a normal schedule, that's a first for me since I started working at 16. Of course I still only work in the summers so I guess things haven't changed all that much.

Lauren- I added the flat iron one to my list. Work is great, thanks for asking, it's still pretty slow because our season hasn't really started yet. That's fine thought since it's a new position I like having the time to really get comfortable with my responsibilities.

I might not be back on till next week, so hope you all stay well until then. It seems like you are all reporting good news, so lets keep it that way.

Vickie- If your read back this far when you get home, I hope everything went well and your on the mend. I'm sure it must be a relief to be done with surgery.
