The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Hey ya'll!

Hugs all around to everyone that needs them.:grouphug:

I finally get to go home the day after tomorrow. For 2 days.:lmao:

Then back up to who knows where.....New York I think.

Tonight is chicken breast tenders with sauces (ranch, bbq, teriaki) and corn and 3 bean salad. Cleaning out the accumulation of cans- how is it, even in a hotel room, I can accumulate canned goods?!?:rotfl2:

F&WF for us is just going to be a grazefest too. We decided not to do Party for the Senses so we could do a wine and cheese excursion on the cruise.

If you want an example of a dinner we had somewhere let me know. i have them organized by trip then by day then by time. So no searching necessary. I am OCD can you tell!!!!:rotfl2:

Marisa, I least you organize all of it! The only reason I threw mine away was because I had the last 2 years all crumpled up together along with all the other stuff you pick up while in DW! No one has every suggested that I am OCD!

Kat, thanks for posting F&W info. I still think cruising the booths & our dinner plans are the way I'm going to go.
I don't think I ever updated when you asked about my friend Sharon's Dad. He is scheduled for quadruple bypass Friday morning.

I just received a text & Emily is 1 of the 7 kids they are still auditioning.

Merle, pineapple upside down cheesecake sounds delicious!

Dinner tonight is unknown....:confused3

We do have quite a lot booked!:goodvibes

Oh that's so exciting! Good luck to Emily!

Ok and I thought I was the only one that kept recepts and totalls including souvies :rolleyes1.

Maria Hopefully Emily makes it :cheer2:

Ok you all going to F&W need to have a glass of Rosa for me. I wish I could come but I promised myself no trips this year. But I am planning for next year.

You all need to have another glass for me too. I second that quote Janice wanted to go but can't justify just starting back to work only to take a week off don't think my boss would appreciate that nor my kids.

Janice & Lauri, I think Kat & I have you covered! How many glasses to y'all want to drink?

I had big ideas of cooking tonight. But just moving stuff around in the freezer bothered my hand. I found smoked shredded pork (from the farmer's market) in the freezer. So we are having that on a wheat bun for dinner.

Maria & Lauren,

I thought this might interest you two. The menu from last year's BlueZoo Signature Dinner was posted on the F&W thread by TDC NALA

Last year the items served by Todd English were as follows:

Amuse bouche - clam
First course - scallop
Second course - foie gras
Third course - black cod
Fourth course - Beef tenderloin
Fifth course - Cheese
Sixth course - Dessert

So, not all seafood.

Of course we have no idea what the menu will be this year. Todd English went against DW's no foie gras policy last year. The price for this year is $185. pp it's at 6:30 on 16th.

I'd be there in a heartbeat!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

Ohhh....you are SO tempting me! :scared:

Good.;)

No, I really didn't. It was more of a throw all this in a pan and eat thing. :rotfl: I can figure one out though. The grits are just instant that I add cheese, salt and pepper too and the cheese depends on what I am eating it with. For fish I use goat cheese, about a 1/4 c per serving, for the curried shrimp I use cheddar.

Yum. Maybe I'll get adventurous and try it sometime!

My dinner came out good. I made some Tomato, Basil and Mozzarella crustini's for the appetizer. Jeff made a pitcher of mango mojitos to have also. I needed that with my MIL :headache:

For dinner we had filet wrapped in bacon, cooked rare for Kady, I had grilled chicken. Sides were: potatoes and onions in a foil pouch, roasted zucchini, onions, eggplant and asparagus and grilled corn on the cob. We had a lemon merangue pie and an apple pie for dessert but she left before we ate it. No worries, because i woke up and Jeff at the WHOLE LEMON PIE!!!

Sounds delicious! Glad it went well, even if it was for MIL!

I looked for a make your own Febreeze but I am afraid of that one. It calls for cheap vodka. Has anyone ever made Febreeze and how did it work?

A friend of mine told me Febreeze is just fabric softener and water but I don't know that for sure.

Hey Everyone,

Sorry I didn't check in last night but I was emotionally drained.

Yesterday was so positive in many ways but very tough in others.
They spoke so much of the trauma the baby has already endured, losing a birth Mom & their foster Mom. I asked if it was a void similiar to experiencing a parent death (I lost my Dad when I was 8 months old & it's always something in the back of my mind) & the Social Worker said yes so we talked about that for a long time & it brought up so much as well as having rehash the infertility & all the babies we have lost.

:cool1:

I am up after my nap to get that anesthesia out of my system. I told my GI before I went under that my fear was there would be nothing found and that he'd tell me it was all in my head so he walked in the room afterwards and told me, "Good news! You have issues!" and then laughed that I was the only patient who wanted him to find something

I have a stricture in my esophagus, evidently from years of GERD and acid reflux. It explains why I often have issues swallowing food and pills. So, they stretched my esophagus. My throat hurt pretty badly when I woke but now just feels like I have a huge painful lump in it. Hard to swallow. But should be worth the pain later!

I also have at least one fistula, which may or may not be connected to the second one he found. They were too small to explore. I also have so much scar tissue leading into the terminal ileum that only the tip of the camera could look in and he said my entire terminal ileum was "angry" and inflammed.

The surgeon he uses happened to be there so the GI pulled him in the room mid-scope to show him the damage. He mentioned surgery again... and I said I want to try this new drug, Cimzia. There are only 3 biologicals on the market currently and I've used 2 - this is the 3rd.

So. That's where I'm at! And it's not all in my head

Last night, after the prep (which wasn't so bad thanks to my liquid diet days beforehand!) I thought of nothing but food. I was so hungry!! I decided I wanted Red Lobster so we went there for lunch after the scope. It hurt to swallow but didn't stop me from cleaning my plate. My dad came over to stay with me so DH could head back to camp. We may do something like Chick Fil A for dinner tonight. We'll see. I am not cooking, that's all I know.

Aimee, I've been thinking about you today. Glad to hear you have issues, I understand totally where you're coming from with that. Hopefully the new drug will do the trick.

Aimee, Sounds like they REALLY scoped you! Take it easy eating for dinner, you were probably still feeling the anesthesia when you inhaled your lunch.

I'm glad you're happy they found something. I'll be praying that the stretching & new med. really works! Prayers that you won't need surgery! I'm really surprised your throat doesn't hurt more, after having it stretched! :scared:

Lori, I forgot to say Hi!

Aimee - I'm sorry you have so many issues but I know how you feel about hoping it's not "all in your head"! I hope you can find something that works for you!

Maria - I'm sorry yesterday was so difficult for you. I'm praying this all works out for you! :goodvibes

Lori - Glad to see you checking in. Too bad you only get to "settle in" for 2 days!

Lauren - Good luck to Emily! That is exciting!

Sheryl - That aide situation is disgusting. Is there some sort of state agency to report them to? :confused3 I suspect there are people out there with home health aides that are having similar issues, and some of those situations could get really dangerous if aides are just not showing up!

Kathy - No...not so good! Let's do some estimated math:
Value -2 nights = $200 ?
Park tickets 2 days = $200 ?
Plane tickets = $200 ?
Food = $100 ?
TOTAL = $700 ? for 2 days :scared:

You don't need park tickets, we're eating and drinking, remember?:lmao:

:yay::yay::yay:

It is tempting but I need to get start will my budget even though I have lots of point left. Plus I need to replace some carpet upstair old cat plus carpet not a happy me :sad2:

Sheryl and Kat All I will say is use your best judgement. I really really really love Rosa :rolleyes1. Take care I won't be there to keep you all from getting into harms way.

Grilling sausages with onions with a salad on the side.

Maria -- Good luck to Emily! That is so great that she is just one of seven. No matter what happens, she should be very proud and excited.

Aimee -- I'm glad you got some answers today. I hope the new medication works and you can avoid surgery.

Today was a really busy day, so I am missing things. to all, and I'll try to keep up better tomorrow.

Yum. Maybe I'll get adventurous and try it sometime!

You should, it's really good.

My mother has a stricture too, not sure what caused her's though. She has her's stretched every 6 months to a year, has to have it done again in about two weeks.

Came home and managed to do a little cleaning and sorting including pulling out the dresser and dusting behind it.

Oh and I won the Mega Millions!!!!! :woohoo: $2 that is! :rotfl:

Merle we have won the $2 mega million before too. Welcome to the club.:thumbsup2

Aimee Glad you are doing well. We didn't think it was in your head. Stomach stuff is so not fun I couldn't imagine anyone dreaming that up.

I wish I could figure out how to get myself in here everyday but I will just take it one dinner at a time. Tonight we had RR Turkey, Cheddar, Bacon Burgers (from her kids cookbook) DS 15 is away at camp and DS 11 wanted to make dinner. Along with the burgers we are having roasted asparagus and tater tots. While DS was making the turkey burgers I cooked up the rest of the ground turkey for Lindsay's Kitty Chili tomorrow night!
