The What's For Dinner Thread - March '11 (recipe index in OP)

Oops! I forgot to post the cake recipe!

Piña Colada Cake

:)

This is the scrumptious cake that my friend Jeannie made. You can use chocolate cake mix as well or pineapple. I am told the chocolate is to die for.
Princess - That soup looks great!

True Dat!!!!!!!!!!!!

The swim meet was great, my baby beat her own records and her little sister did great as well.

:yay::cheer2::yay:

I have to say Kat that I just dont get The Contemporary.
It holds nothing for me but since visiting Gretchen at BLT I would stay there in a heart beat....

The boy is buzzin tonight, he has been asked to train with one of the top bboy crews in Scotland.
He knows them from battles and comps and they have been watchin him and got in touch to ask him to join them.
He pretty much idolises them so he is soo excited.
It will be hard work as they are all much older but he is so up for it.
Thankfully he got the go ahead from the doc to start up again.

When Buddy took us to WDW 22 years ago we stayed at the CR. It was the bomb back then but now it reminds me of a giant toaster ;) I have to say that I would kill to stay at the DVC towers though :thumbsup2

Congrats to the Boy! I love watching the BB Crews and look forward to seeing him!

Even though I thought they changed some things in HP I really liked it. A thought it was well done. The first half really bugged him. He thinks the movie should follow the book no change to the story, it is not the directors business to change what the author wrote.:rolleyes1

I am totally with A!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bethany- crazy weather!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had dinner at Welby's last night. Actually I meant me. Nola had called to see if I would "bring Pa down for dessert." Welby had taken the girls to pick blueberries and they helped her make a pie, Pa's favorite :cloud9: He ate two gynormous slices while Nola ignored her dinner and hung over every bite he took.............making sure he ate enough of her fab dessert :goodvibes I had a pies of a egg and broccoli bake that Welby made. It was delicious!

SHe has no recipe but used 12 of her fresh eggs, some onion, broccoli and 1/2 bag mozzarella cheese and baked in a deep casserole. (I think she used more cheese but she fibbed because she knew I would eat it anyway and all that cheese is not on my diet.) Good Girl :thumbsup2

I have one more day at Gail's and then I can turn my attention to my own home. I cannot even pretend it is clean and my yard is covered in weeds.

Dinner is the chicken I thawed yesterday but had no time to cook. And whatever I pick up at the store............I am out of everything but have not even made it to pick up milk.

I have never seen airport food that looked that GOOD!!!!!!!:worship:

I know! Me neither! The chef was apparently a contestant on Iron Chef America. I was just impressed that we got to have actual knives with our meal rather than the usual plastic throwaway kind! If you are ever in the Atlanta airport I recommend eating here. It is in Terminal E.

Vickie, congratulations to the boy! He must be so excited!

Marilyn, congrats on the good swim meet results!

When Buddy took us to WDW 22 years ago we stayed at the CR. It was the bomb back then but now it reminds me of a giant toaster ;)

OK this made me laugh out loud! You are right, it does look like a toaster! :rotfl:

Last night I made the grilled pizza I mentioned. No picture because you have seen it so many times before. I will show you a picture of John's dinner from last night though! He is in Barcelona right now, and this is what he ate:

Doesn't it look scrumptious? It is squid paella. He said it was delicious. I will take his word for it. :rolleyes1

WFD: chicken souvlaki

Becky, what is the restaurant called? I may have missed it. I've spent lots of time at the Atlanta airport, riding those trams back and forth between terminals looking for something interesting to eat/see! :)

Another busy day - our version of VBS is next week so prep is underway!

Tonight's dinner is who knows what. I need to get to the store but haven't had time to make a list yet.

Hi all! I'm on vacation this week and enjoying some quiet days at home. Erin and I met Sara at her doctor's appointment today since they were doing another ultrasound. It was exciting to see the baby! I posted pictures of the baby's room on FB - Erin did the mural in the room. Janice - take a look at the Cubs fish they had to have on the wall ;)

Nancy - belated condolences on the loss of Buddy's friend.

Vickie - great news about the boy - thats very exciting!!

Marilyn - congrats to the kids on the swim meet!

Glynis - Congrats to Alan!

Princess - I must say I like the way you give step by step photos! The soup looks yummy!

Kat - congrats on the new ticker. I'd love to stay at BLT, it looks beautiful.

Umm, I'm with you on this one..

Dinner tonight is roast chicken, brocoli and cheese rice and salad.

One Flew South. It is past security, in Terminal E. It says on the outside that it is a sushi bar, but there is an entire other menu, not just sushi. Both the sushi and the other menu are posted outside the restaurant.

To make up for the squid paella photo, here is a chicken souvlaki photo. Maybe a little more pleasing? It was really tasty but I have too many leftovers.

Becky The only way I could get that paella to my lips would be with lots of sangria. Both before and after.:rotfl:

Tonight was a thrown together dinner of chicken and rice with fruit.

When I came out of work tonight, I noticed my rearview mirror fell off the windshield. I had the windows down a bit but I guess the 100+ temp was not so good for the glue. While waiting for my friend to come over to reattach the mirror I had to clean out my car:eek:. That homeless family has dumped a bunch of their stuff in my car too :rolleyes1

Nan – The Contemporary does look like a giant toaster,!!!!!

Lauri U – Enjoy your vacation time! The baby’s room is so cute!

Janice – You crack me up. :rotfl2:

WFD – Smothered chicken with onions & peppers, rice pilaf and corn.

Yikes, I thought things were supposed to slow down in the summer! We have been so busy lately, all good things but still busy.

Kathy- I loved staying at the contemporary, I never thought I would but I did. You can't beat the location. I don't think it takes 10 minutes to walk to the Magic Kingdom and then you just hop onto the monorail for Epcot. It was really a pain to get to Animal Kingdom or MGM, but we don't really spend much time there. If we go MGM, we usually just walk over from Epcot. Wilderness Lodge is still my favorite though.

Janice- My car is the only clean thing I have! The house is getting a little out of hand, but for some reason my car always manages to stay clean and clutter free. (dog hair doesn't count, I can't win that battle)

Becky- I don't know, squid ink is right up there with cod cheeks! I'm actually curious what both taste like. I'm assuming he is there on business, can't imagine a business dinner with black teeth!

Lindsay- Welcome back! Whenever wfd people get together I think of you and the friendships your simple question started.

Okay, I'm not even going to pretend I can catch up. Things should slow down a little after this week. We've had takeout twice already this week, we usually only get it once every other month or so. I have no idea what's for dinner and we won't get home until late. I've lost almost 20 pounds in the last couple of months and I hate eating crappy food that will undo all that.

Hope to check in again soon. Hope you all are enjoying your summer.

Just popped in to the DIS while we are truly enjoying Vero Beach! I strongly suggest that you all try and visit here while in this neck of the woods.

I will get back here when we are back...just wanted to say hello to Lindsay! Kat, you're a good egg and a great friend!

Gotta run and get showered...Tom and I are going out for a bit without the kiddies...Love to all!

Hello all.

I have not melted in this heat yet,but I am getting darned close. When I got into my car tonight the temp said it was over 100. This offical temp is just 99, the news said they take the temp in the shade.:rotfl2: I guess they don't want to scare people. I wonder if they take the winter temps inside:rolleyes1.

WFD is spaghetti and meatballs. I am not standing by an open fire if I can help it.

Lauren Glad you are enjoying your vacation

the plus side of today is that nothing new fell off my car today:thumbsup2.

Tomorrow I am going to a Pampered Chef party. Is there anything new and cool I should look for?

Robin - Great to hear from you, I've missed you! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the CR. Are the bus rides to AK that bad? I'm excited about being so close to MK.:cloud9:

Lauren - You are too sweet, love you! I'm so glad y'all are having a great time, I can't wait to hear all about it and see pics of the boys!!!

Janice - When are y'all expected to get some relief from the insane heat?:sad2:

I am thinking December.:lmao: I think we go into the mid to high 80's next week

Hello all. Just checking in on a Thursday in Oz. Today is normally a cooking day (non-paid working day) for me but I'm actually going in to work later today. So, the boys are on their own for dinner!

I would need some liquid courage to eat that too!

Good to see you here! You are always busy in the summer months :woohoo: Congrats on the weight loss!

I saw on the news that the heat index there is 115 :scared1: Be careful in that heat!

I love pampered chef!

Well, Janice is sharing some of the outrageous heat with us East Coasters! I was way too hot last night so I picked up the dreaded sandwich meat for Buddy and I asked for a think slice of store roasted turkey for me and mad a big salad. Buddy was happy because he had been out spraying his plants, we don't irrigate so they needed a drink.

Gail is almost out of her house, thank God. Debbie was here and was supposed to leave early yesterday morning but after she watched my brother and me wrestle one of the gazillion shelving units out of the basement she stuck around and helped us. Apparently the two of us are inept. :rolleyes1 She was supposed tocal me before she lost service so I knew she and her truck that looked like the Clampets on their way to Beverly Hills made it home. She called at 8 PM to tell me she had pulled over to help someone and still had two more hours to go.

I swear I am going to purge my stuff.............but I have to stop taking things home first ;)

Robin - congrats on the weight loss. I think I grabbed a few of your lost pounds. I need to get back to walking and soon.

Janice - I hope things cool down a bit for you soon. We had the same dinner idea yesterday - we also had meatballs and spagetti.

Lauren - I hope you enjoy your vacation!!

We're going to see HP 7.2 later this afternoon so I'm not sure what we will end up doing for dinner yet.

Our news people are doing their best to scare us, they like to tell us the heat index over, and over, and over....... :headache:

It is supposed to be 100 with a heat index between 110 and 115 for the next three days. We have an outdoor festival Saturday. :scared1:

WFD - I don't know about tonight. Last night we had chicken caesar salad.

Robin - congrats on the weight loss. I think I grabbed a few of your lost pounds. I need to get back to walking and soon.

Does walking actually help you lose weight? I walk an hour a day and lose nothing. :headache:

Janice, I'm with you on the heat. I think it will cool off by December. I am tempted to go over to that thread called "how are you beating the heat?" and responding with "waiting for it to pass" and seeing what people say when they see my location.

I do find it mildly amusing the people that are complaining about their house getting up to 82 inside. Um, that is what my a/c is set to. :rotfl:

Marilyn, they do that here with the heat index also. It kind of goes in one ear and out the other, especially by this point in the year. Like...I get it. It's hot. Thanks for the reminder. :upsidedow One day recently I got woken up at 6am by a text message from the National Weather Service, telling me to check my email because there was a weather advisory for my parish. The advisory? It's HOT. No kidding? New Orleans is hot in July? Who knew? :confused3

However, they are equal opportunity. In the winter they make us well aware when it is cold. :rotfl2: If it gets down into the 30s they start talking about the Protecting the 4 Ps....Protect your people, pets, plants, and pipes!

Nancy- "her truck that looked like the Clampets on their way to Beverly Hills" :rotfl2::rotfl:

Hello ladies! I hope everyone is staying cool. Or comfortable at least. WFD: not sure, heading to Laura's. Hopefully nothing that involves turning on the oven!

Last night I just made a BLT. Too hot to make anything interesting and it was just me anyway. John is home from Spain tomorrow in time for dinner, so I will cook up some of the things I got in my CSA basket today.

The CSA is really taking off now. Today I got beets, carrots, cucumbers, summer squashes, blueberries, corn, garlic, and new potatoes. I was a little peeved that I did not get any tomatoes, as they put out a notice last week that they would be in, but that is part of doing a CSA I guess. You get what they have.

Hello, all. It's been a crazy busy day cleaning. I made hamburgers for today's dinner and tomorrow we are going to my parent's house to celebrate Scott's birthday. We are having chicken tetrazini, salad, and bread. For dessert we are having chocolate punchbowl cake.

Thanks again for all of the nice words, you guys. I really appreciate them. It's been awesome catching up with everyone!
