The What's For Dinner Thread - March '11 (recipe index in OP)

Good morning all!!

I sure hope you are all feeling better today.

Hi Kat :goodvibes

I have Zumba again tonight and Doug has his last Bells practice. I have 2 more weeks of Senior UMYF and then we are finished with Wednesday night activities. I always am so glad when it is over, but glad when it starts back up in the fall.

WFDT ~ Planned overs, as we will be passing each other on the road.

Make it a great everyone!!

Good morning everyone! I have been in kind of a funk the last few days and haven't been on the boards. I think I'm just worn out and actually took a nap on Sunday. I haven't done that in a very long time, but I think it helped some.

Dinner tonight is probably pasta with a Turkey sausage.

Hey sweetie, we must have hit reply at the same time.

Funks are the pits. I hope it passes soon. Being tired and worn out can really make a big difference in how the world looks.

Please take care of you my friend

Good morning, everyone! All my school kids are out the door, and I'm now planning my day with Timothy. It's gorgeous here! My lilacs started blooming yesterday, and that has done wonders for my spirits!

Jacob performs at Hope of America tonight, so he and I will grab some dinner at McD's before heading to BYU for the program. Katie will stay home and fix dinner for the rest of the kids.

Other than that, I need to run to the store for milk, but not much else. I hate to run out for that, but Timothy needs it since he won't eat much else. Grr! Little poop!

Hi Everyone,

I didn't get a chance to get on here yesterday. Liam's team lost again on Monday, 9-6, but they played much better and they didn't give up as many walks. The coaches were disappointed, though, because I guess there is some rivalry between them and the coaches of the other team. Liam had a 2.5 hour practice yesterday. That left just me and Caili for dinner, so I made her favorite beef and broccoli stir fry and PW sesame noodles.

Tonight Becky is coming for dinner and we're having takeout Indian. I haven't had it in a while, so I am looking forward to it. I'm not sure what I am giving the kids...maybe just mac and cheese. Something easy anyway.

Thomas loved the child care but he came home with a big bruise on his head.

Poor kid. I hope today was better.

Princess -- I hope you are feeling better!

Marilyn -- You too!

Ok sweetie, I will let you in on a little secret - Matthew is 6'4" and when he was 15 he hit the 6' mark. I would always make him sit on a chair when I was talking to him.

That is a great idea. Like Robin, I am tucking that one away. Liam is about two inches away from being taller than I am.

She's not doing so well in half of her classes, and the school year is almost over.

I'm sure she'll be able to do it! Good luck to her!

I am not feeling the best today I had a small migrane last night.

I hope you feel better. Enjoy the ice cream maker!

Got my menu all worked out for my in-law visit, lots of good food ahead.

Have a good week! It sounds like your daughter had a nice birthday.

I did that one year with our dryer, I think I made it around 6 months. Of course everyone complained about the stiff towels, but I said it was exfoliating.
:rotfl: Okay, I am really glad I was not drinking anything when I read that. I would have choked!

I have been in kind of a funk the last few days and haven't been on the boards.
 I hope your mood brightens.

Okay, time to stop procrastinating. I have an interview tomorrow, and I have to put together some writing samples. Somehow, I do not think my Disboard posts would be acceptable. :)

Feeling better today. Was able to have a regular dinner last night, although it was still chicken. :rotfl: I need some beef but may stick to getting some sort of soup at the deli today.

Not sure about dinner although I am really in the mood for some mac and cheese in addition to the beef.

Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone. I'm sure I'll feel brighter soon, I think I've just had so much family stuff on me, I just ran out of gas.

Laura, I wanted to post quickly and wish you good luck on your interview tomorrow. It's a shame we all can't be references. Heck, with all the activities the kids are in and how involved you are, I can't imagine any employee they currently have that would be more creative or better at time management. Anyway, I'll say a prayer for you.

Ellen, good advice for the mothers of tall boys. Patrick was over this past weekend and he is already taller than me. Not that he was any trouble at all. It seems that now he knows that we aren't taking any of his stuff, he is on his best behavior. He even made the bed without me asking him to. :scared1:

Glynis, I honestly don't know how you keep up. I get tired just thinking about your household activity. I think you should get mother of the year. Truly.

Kat, are you getting excited? Your first trip as DVC members is pretty special. I hope it is wonderful. :cloud9:

Lauren, I forgot you were heading to Vero. I can't wait to hear how you like it.

Gretchen- I think we are in the same position. We are having major problems with my inlaws and it's really starting to affect my life. I have been so angry since Easter, and that's not who I am. Everything about my life is so good, except for them and I want to be happy again. It's draining be to the point where I feel like I've worked a full day, my body is beat. I can't even imagine what it's like for my husband. The sad thing is we used to get along so well well with his parents. I'm glad Patrick gave you an easy weekend.

Marilyn- Glad your feeling better!

Laura- I hope he still likes baseball after a 2 1/2 hour practice. Good luck tomorrow!

Glynis- I have a really old lilac tree just outside my bedroom window, it's one of the most fragrent lilacs I've ever smelled. When the windows are open it perfumes the whole house. I usually blooms just before Memorial Day but it looks like it might be a little early this year.

Ellen- Glad you will have Wednesday night's free again. That is exactly how I feel about my job, right now I'm ready to start back to work, but in the fall I'm ready to be done.

Not sure on dinner tonight, I'll dig something up.

Gretchen – You’ve certainly had more than your share lately which must have you mentally as well as physically exhausted. Take some “me” time please. I am getting very excited about our upcoming trip, it does have a special feel to it.:cloud9:

Ellen – Enjoy your Zumba tonight! I had to skip the gym today, not feeling so great.

Laura – Those coaches take their rivalries very seriously, some times way too seriously. Good luck on the interview tomorrow!!!

Glynis – You are so lucky to have a girl like Katie who is willing and able to make dinner for her siblings. That’s a very special young lady!

Marilyn – Glad to hear you’re feeling better!

Robin - I'm sorry to hear you're having in-law problems. I will keep you in my prayers that it works out soon.

Robin, I am sorry you are having inlaw problems. That is so difficult to deal with.

Marilyn, I am glad you are feeling better! I always want mac and cheese!

Gretchen, you have been dealing with so much lately. I hope you get some time soon to yourself to relax and rejuvenate.

I did end up making the sausage sandwiches last night. They were good.

Is anyone making a special menu for cinco de mayo tomorrow? I am doing shrimp seveche, queso fundudo, and guacamole. And maybe a margarita.

Glynis ~ I am right there with you - I LOVE Lilacs. I have a huge white one in our tree break. I bet it is 25' wide and at least 15' high. It is beautiful but I really like the purple ones the best!!

Laura ~ Good luck on your interview. I have everything crossed that I can.

Marilyn ~ I am glad to hear you are feeling better.

Gretchen ~ I am thrilled to hear Patrick is coming around and "getting it". I know how that was a hard thing for you.
Please find some down time just for you lady. It will make a BIG difference.

Robin ~ So sorry to hear the Inlaws are giving you grief. That can really wear on the heart.

Kat ~ I hope you feel better real soon.

Oh oh oh it is almost 4 and time for me to head home. The best part of my day.

Well this thread is family friendly;) after that a lot of us use Tasty Kitchen which is part of Pioneer Woman's blog.

I second this! I use recipes from Pioneer Woman and from Tasty Kitchen a lot!

I love my lilacs!!! Before Alan and I moved into our home, I dug up a few "suckers" from my parents trees. They've done quite well here!!! I'm so happy about that. The original lilac tree (my parents got a cutting from it) was carried, wrapped in a moist burlap bag from Wales when my several greats grandmother emigrated to America. It has the best smell!!!

That is very very cool.
While not as old my mum has a flower ( :confused3 Im as clued up on gardening as I am at cookin ) that she got as a cutting from my Na-na and its always the prettiest in the garden.
She has offered me a cuttin lots of times but it would crush me if ( when) I killed it.
I loved my Na-Na very much....

Becky - Nothing fancy here tomorrow - chicken enchiladas, refried black beans, guac and Skinnygirl margarita for me.:goodvibes

figaromeetsmarie - I, too, agree with Pioneer Woman & Tasty Kitchen.

Vickie - I'm with ya on the plants, I kill them.:rolleyes1

Thought I would ask on this forum...any good recipe blogs or sites that have family friendly recipes?:worship:

What she said! :thumbsup2

As for Cinco, I have not a clue yet. Actually I just remembered I have that Philadelphia Cooking Creme that's Southwestern somesuch. It has a good recipe for enchilada's on it. :thumbsup2

WFD is beet chips Just peel fresh beets and slice very thin place on cookie sheet sprayed with pam and sprinkle a little salt on them. Cook in oven 325 until crisp. ok they may not get to the crisp part since I keep opening the oven to steal them.:lmao: Oh yes chicken and a salad will go with the beet

I am still thinking on the menu for tomorrow. I was going to grill something but get this we are supposed to get more rain :confused3 I never would think it would rain again. Who knew?

I just ordered my Mom's gift a ice cream maker. I have been wanting one for a while now. I had a gift card left over from christmas :thumbsup2

Sorry to hear about that some of us are sick. I am not feeling the best today I had a small migrane last night. I am having a wonderful lunch of crackers and tea,my tummy always hates me after a migrane:upsidedow

I would love an ice cream maker! Enjoy it. Hope you are feeling better today :thumbsup2

Home in bed, spluttering, coughing and just being sick (well....*sicker* than I normally am). Chicken soup for me!

Will try and catch up on the posts later.

How are you feeling today?

I got a vacation just not the good kind. I have a stomach bug. I got the whine part, but only toast, tea and chicken broth for the food. :rotfl:

.

Oh No! I hope that today you are feeling better!

Ok sweetie, I will let you in on a little secret - Matthew is 6'4" and when he was 15 he hit the 6' mark. I would always make him sit on a chair when I was talking to him. Something about shaking my finger looking "UP" at him never worked. :rotfl:

Good Advice. Those "boys" who tower over their Moms still need to know which way the wind blows........:lmao:

Honey, you have had way too much on your plate lately. I have to tell you that years ago I would try to fight off those funks but lately I just give in, get it over with and then move on. I think that since you are exhausted a little extra sleep will do wonders :grouphug:

Okay, time to stop procrastinating. I have an interview tomorrow, and I have to put together some writing samples. Somehow, I do not think my Disboard posts would be acceptable. :)

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:wizard:

Good thing you laid down the law when you did. Buddy's nephew went through life believing he was a Gift From Above and so was above any rules that the rest of us low level flyers had to follow. He is 41, unemployed, a father with no prospects and no sense of urgency to change that. After all, knows more than anyone else, even those who would employ him. :sad2:

Gretchen- I think we are in the same position. We are having major problems with my inlaws and it's really starting to affect my life..

:grouphug: I wish that I could say ignore them but that just is not always possible. :sad2: I hope that things get better for you

Glynis- Katie will bring her grades up. I think that there is so much pressure in kids that concentrating on so many things is impossible.

Becky- that bread looked wonderful!

Dinner last night was take out Chinese. Welby called craving soem so we all had dinner together. It really did not agree with Buddy or me, which was a shame.

Dinner tonight is going to include alcohol! Buddy is in construction and has been working without a contract for over a month. Welby's DH is an engineer at the same company. Anyway, the Carpenter's went out this week and are picketing at both gates  The guys are all across the street at the local watering hole which opened early this morning. I just got the house back to myself and now this! :headache: Big meeting on Saturday and I hope that they all come to some solution because I am one unhappy woman right now. To make things more desperate................Buddy is talking about retiring, he said he has had enough of all of the shenanigans! I told him if he retires I am going back to work and he will be :laundy:
