The What's for Dinner Thread- June 2012 (recipe index in OP)

Good morning!!!!!!!

Well, things are getting back to normal in the G household, but I am honestly whooped! I am still parked on a chair in my jammies, ignoring everything I need to do. Buddy is getting better, thank you!!!!!!!!! He is using a cane, now, unless he is not near me, and then he has to rely on the walker still. His headache is vastly improved, and he is starting to show signs of his old self. I think that every day is better than the previous one, so God is Great, and I am every in His debt. PT has been coming and will come three x a week,. Turns out part of his balance was not the surgery, but the fact that he had been twisted down for so long, and then was stiff for days. She has given his exercises to improve that, as well as some to restore his balance. He has some facial paralysis, but that should go away. He has refused to let Nola and Rylee come see him, he thought that they would be afraid of him. So they started face timing him, and he would not take the phone. Last night we decided enough was enough, and they came over. Best decision ever! Those two Pixies snuggled on his sides and would not leave him. Nola brought two weeks worth of cards and pictures she has been making for him (complete with details about Rylee's refusal to make cards LOL!) and Rylee gave him a cookbook "just for him" that she filched from my shelf. LOL! Today, I need to be the bad guy and try to figure out his pain level balanced with his fear of that headache he had. Wish me luck!

Ellen- Good thing you have a quiet weekend! You never seem to have real down time! I don't know about you, but I am over Winter, it is freakign cold here, and I know that you have had he same pattern. COLD, warm. COLD warm. I have been thinking about you, and am so glad that are okay. Like Doug, Buddy has never been to DL and I would love for him to go. I went with my sister when Kimmie was a CM there, and got to spend one day, (Kim was a bit of a pill, even though she thought she was a Hostess with the mostest) but I was hooked! Buddy and I grew up on dreams of DL so I know he will love it. We have to fly out, though, and getting him to CA is not going to be easy. WE have to fly to FL but somehow that is an easier trip, I guess.

Allison- My niece lives in CA and she bought a seasons pass to DL, but not the best one. Well it did not take too long to figure out that they needed to bite the bullet and spring for one that had fewer black out days because her little boy is a Disney Boy! (Yup....his auntie's boy!) I am envious of your jaunts there, and would love to do that as well!

PIO- Grumpy????? After that luscious New Years meal??? LOL!

Brandi- You cruised on Disney Cruise Line? I have decided that we are taking Kady on a cruise, and have started researching the ships. I liked the Magic, but wonder if the Fantasy ma be a better choice. I saw that Lori had some issues, and now I need to do some work to figure out which ship is best for us. The nurse in the ICU took her kids on the Magic and said it was awesome. I think we may do better because it is smaller, and we have never cruised. I will need to work around my jobm Kady school and Buddy when he goes back to work. So much to think about!

Dinner is going to be whatever Buddy feels like eating.

Nancy - Great news about Buddy. I'm so glad that you decided to get the grandkids over. That would have been fantastic for him to see that he's still grandpa no matter what. Have fun planning for a cruise! Sounds like great fun.

 Hi to everyone else.

We're about an hour out from my Mom's house. She/We weren't sure if we would make it in time for dinner. She decided to make spaghetti. Problem is I had spaghetti Friday night and leftovers for lunch yesterday. Three days in a row is just a little much.

Mom is now running to the grocery store for fixins for meatloaf! She's got some red potatoes and we'll have zucchini boats for a veggie.

....shut up and just eat a babnana already....:rotfl2:

I'm meant to be cutting out processed sugar. :(

Morning all, sorry I have been away a couple of days, I had friends staying at my house.

So Thursday I made cordon bleu with Cauliflower potatoes, and Brussels sprouts.
Friday I took my friends on a tour of the Naval Academy, and we ate at the Officers Club and it turned out to be a really nice place for lunch and a local pizza place for dinner.
Saturday we got up had breakfast and were getting all of their stuff in the car so we could drive them to the port, they were getting on a cruise, and the woman fell down my stairs, and her head went through the sheet rock. I felt so bad, she said she was ok, but I am so worried about her.

Saturday night, the civic organization we belong to elected me VP of activities and I scheduled dinner at a local Mexican place, so we had dinner for 25 people.

Sunday was house cleaning day and we finished our taxes. We had grilled pork chops and Brussels for dinner.

Alison - so glad you got a day of rest and meatloaf at your Mom's...
Nancy- glad that Buddy is improving and that you all got some pixie love!
Ellen -it snowed again yesterday here, I am with you, I am over this winter....
PIO- Yes it is "Eat to Live" and I am determined to do a 6 week plan... I have been meatless for three days a week for the past month, with Green Smoothies for lunch, I really like it. I swear I feel better after my meatless days.

One week from Today I will be on my way to the Caribbean!

Happy Monday girls,

Alison ~ So glad for your down time at DL and now at your Mom's. Meatloaf sounds amazing. I would give anything to eat a piece of my Momma's meatloaf - she made it the best.

PIO ~ Thanks so much for your sugar info. I was really interested. I think I would like to try this. But I do agree, we need to remember that cutting something completely out is not always a good thing. This body needs a bit of everything in moderation. I totally believe that portion control, whole foods are the best.

Nan ~ I am so glad the girls finally came to see Buddy. I knew they would be his best medicine. So thankful that things are better each and every day. PTL!!

Wendy ~ Your salute to Sochi was perfect!!

SpaceCadet ~ There is nothing better than a slice of pizza. Yum!

Kimmar ~ you just make me laugh - that is a good thing. I love it!

Brandi ~ Oh how I wish was going to be on a cruise next week.
How scary  for your friend. I sure hope she really was ok. Now about that wall :sad2:

This weekend went way to fast. I love the times I can stay home and not leave the house. We only left yesterday morning for church. About 8:30 Friday night, Doug let Cooper out and it was snowing - ALOT! It snowed all night and all day Saturday. Was the big flakes, no wind, soft fluffy kind. Was really pretty. All in all I suppose we got 3-4". We only had 81 in Church yesterday. We came home and snuggled back in. I went to bed last night with that wonderful feeling knowing that the house was cleaned, wash done and meals in the freezer. I love knowing that and the feeling of accomplishment can't be beat.

WFDT ~ Brats (Chicken, Guyrere Cheese and Spinach) green jello salad (Doug's favorite) and chips.

Make it a great day.

Someone forgot to send the 'sugar free' memo to my son's school.

He's just started the new year and this year, all the kids have to do a semester of food technology. Today was the first class he's had. So what did he make and proudly bring home????

Fruit salad (Yummy, yummy).

We asked what went into it....aside from fruit, the recipe called for castor SUGAR. He proudly brought some home and I was like :scared1:. It's the first thing he's brought home and I was really really worried that we wouldn't eat any of it.

Thankfully, Mr Nazi DH said we should try it. :cool1:

Guess what?

I can't bring myself to eat it.

Yes, i truly hope she is ok, and I can fix the wall, the painting is the part I am not happy about, it is in the stairwell and will be a three story wall.... Ughh, I hate to stretch like that....

But it is just a wall.

I am so ready to go on this cruise. It was 15 this morning and we are expecting a snow storm tomorrow which I am not happy about... Come on Caribbean!

Your snuggle down time sounds amazing! Like it was the perfect weekend for you!

Thankful Tuesday

Stay warm everyone - :wave2:

Another cold, windy and dreary day out today - yadda, yadda yadda! But by the weekend it is suppose to get up to 50. I just might open the windows for a bit. ;)

We are really enjoying watching the Olympics. I am always so proud of these young people and their accomplishments. My favorite part is figure skating, and the skiing, but I really do love it all. Yesterday I watched the USA win in hockey and then the USA get beat by Fancy Pants (Norway) in curling. I think that is the neatest thing to watch. Just amazes me. Are you watching and what's your favorite?

WFDT ~ Chicken pot pie, and homemade onion bread.

Make it a great day all!!
