In New Orleans at the zoo, the petting zoo is called the "Embraceable Zoo". Guess you're supposed to HUG the animals at that one.

Maybe you should explain a few things to her.

The kids want fish and chips for dinner tonight, so I guess that is what we are having. I am not thrilled with the menu choice, as my stomach has been a bit off the past couple of days, but I am outvoted. Normally, our house is not a democracy, but every once in a while, to maintain my authority, I have to let them believe they have a say.

Here is last night's dinner. I made summer rolls again--you guys have seen these before:

And sesame crusted tuna with sweet soy sauce (just soy and mirin combined and boiled to a thick glaze), coocnut rice, and snap peas:

Tonight I am making John a steak, I am having something with mushrooms, and we are both having ceasar salads.

You should be a personal chef. For real. I would hire you... or maybe I could just trade you for the unemployed hubby? Your DH wouldn't mind, would he?

Becky- All I can think about now is a cannoli, is the Modern Pastry easy to find? One more important question, do the cannoli have the citron in them, because if it does I'll have to stick with Mike's. My sister in law went to Tufts, and whenever she came home they would bring some to us.

I love the smell of cows, I grew up near dairy farms. There was one though that smelled awful, someone said it was because they were fed soy. That's one thing I'm really looking foward to when I go to NY on monday- the smell of dirt. I know it sounds silly, but it just smells so clean. Salt air doesn't always smell so good, especially at low tide.

Bethany- Good luck monday, I hope my good news is contagious (but not my bad spelling)!

Dinner is at my inlaws so I'll fill up on scotch when I get home.

Robin -- Modern Pastry is on Hanover Street, like Mikes. If you are walking up the street, it is on the right and not as far up as Mike's. I am not sure about your citron question, but you could always ask, and if they use it, continue on to Mike's.

What's even funnier, he went home last night, took a shower so he could use his new products and gelled his hair when he was done.

Went to yardsales today, got two Playmobile sets for 50 cents each and MK Satin Hands for $5. The one set was missing almost half of the stuff but the other one was only missing three tiny pieces. Got them so for my DN's to play with at my house.

We also went to this warehouse bookstore and I got two cookbooks, Tabasco and a Ellie Kreiger. There are some really great recipes in them, going to use one tonight for dinner with the seafood mix I have thawed out.

I don't know what is funnier...his use of the products or his determination that no one else gets to use them!

Laura- kids should get to choose once in a while if they eat what they choose. Hope that you feel better.

Robin- I love the smell of cows too. Except when we had to feed silage. DH used to bring it in late fall and compact it, plant a cover crop of rye over it and feed it all winter long. It was good for the animals but it had a fermented smell that permeated everything.

Dinner was fresh trout, roasted chicken, baked potatoes, curried sweets, spicy coleslaw, green beans, corn and salad. Lemon blueberry coffee cake for dessert. We have tons left over so i am not cooking tomorrow.

Wow! I can't believe my Spring break week is over! It's finally spring, today, and I feel like I should have more time off!

All your talk of farm animals was really timely! This morning, Alan and I were out with the kids, running errands, and he got called by his work. They wanted him to cover a story. Apparently, an emu got loose from a local animal rescue place, and they had finally re-captured it. Off we went! When we got there, they let the kids look around. It was like a HUGE petting zoo! The kids got to see chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, pigs, pygmy goats, ponies, horses a llama, rabbits, and 2 emus. It was a really incredible morning! The people at the rescue farm told us that most of the animals were once cute little pets, but when the animals got big (and more expensive to feed), they were dumped in the desert, or on the mountains, etc. Very sad. However, it made for a fun morning for us!

Dinner tonight was tomato soup. Nothing fancy, but very comforting!

Last night we grilled steaks and had baked/grilled potatoes and baby bok choy.

I did too much yard work my muscles are screaming this morning. It is going to be a rainy day here so I think the couch will be when they will find my old bones.

It will just me tonight so I will have leftover something.

Congratulations, Lindsay! That's great for them! I like your idea, a lot! It's personal, and romantic! Very nice!!!

Dinner tonight will be A-1 and Dijon steaks in the crockpot. Don't know how it will turn out, but it was given a positive review on the crock pot blog. I'll let y'all know how it turns out. Not sure what we'll have for sides. Mary wants brussels sprouts, but no one else likes them. We'll see what we feel like after church.

It sounds like fun for the kids. We have a small rescue down the way and the animals run the gamut like the one that you describe. They take them all, because we are rural there are plenty of farm animals there as well. Welby's sister does some "PR" for them and refers people there often when they are looking for pets. This rescue will take any animal back that does not "work out" at home.

I have a new sister-in-law!


They asked for no gifts for their wedding, but I want to do a little something for them so here is what I was thinking. Go and get them some fairly inexpensive (but pretty) champagne flutes and a bottle of Rosa Regale, and make a basket for them. She has a low alcohol tolerance like me, so I thought that would be perfect. What do you think? It's not really expensive, it's personal, and it won't clutter up their in-the-process-of-moving-into house.

Any thoughts?

Congratulations! I agree with Janice, that basket of honeymoon treats will be perfect!

Here is dinner. Paula Deen's baked mac and cheese (didn't like it), a filet with mustard-cognac sauce for John, harcorts verts, and stuffed mushrooms. The mushrooms don't look like much but they were the best flavored stuffed mushrooms I have ever made. They are stuffed with creamed spinach, bacon, garlic cheese, and red onion. I am glad that I have leftovers!

Good morning! Today is a big day - I am baptizing someone for the first time. To say I am anxious would be an understatment; I'm about to make myself sick over it! We practiced baptizing this week and I had a hard time doing it; I'm just not very strong. I'm so afraid I will go down with the person!

Tonight we have a church wide event out at our encampment with a cookout and service. Should be a gorgeous day! I'll have burgers or hot dogs for dinner, whatever the grill is cooking.

Maria, those are beautiful flowers! I love orchids. I wish they were not so expensive. I usually buy myself one a year, but if I couldf have my way my whole screenporch would be filled with them!

I have 5 orchid plants.....3 are from Trader Joe's & have done very well. One I received in the hospital last year so I'm not sure where it came from & the other Greg brought home one night from a very expensive florist...the ones that have done the best & rebloom? Trader Joe's!!!! I think they were $10 each.

Dinner last night was mussels in white wine & shallots.

Hope everyone is well, I'm trying to get alot done before the hospital Tuesday.

Grill season started at my parents' house today. We were expecting rainy, miserable weather today, but it turned out to be beautiful. I'm not complaining! Instead of linguine and clams, we had grilled tuna and swordfish with deviled shallot butter, crispy potatoes, green beans with almonds, and Becky's leftover stuffed mushrooms. It was all good.

Good Morning!

Hope all is well. Busy day yesterday...Andrew had a game. He has improved - I am so proud of him and all the practice he has been doing. Tom is in Belgium so dinners this week will be easy and Andrew's request.

Tonight is Sausage, shells and peas. I need another veggie but I did not buy salad fixings since Andrew does not eat salad that much so I will just steam up some green beans or something of the sort.
