The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Spoke with Gretchen just now, they're meeting with the oncologist tomorrow. Her Dad is already in pain, things aren't looking good. Her sister came in and says Dad has deteriorated fast. Prayers please. She will call me back tomorrow with the oncologist update.

Lauren Sorry I almost forgot to congratulate A :cheer2::cheer2:

Scotlas Your son's school is out already?

Glynis Ann I hope your babies sleep good tonight.

Maria
Please tell Gretchen that her father is in my prayers.

I picked Kady up from her friends house and told her what the doctor said. She freaked out!! We went for a donut and picked up mac and cheese and then some dibbs for snack. Those are the bite sized ice cream snacks. She is so excited!!!

Poor Gretchen....please let her know her Dad remains to be in my prayers, I'm so sad for her.

Ann ~ hoping you have a good night sleep.

Glynis, what kind of steak did you use in the crockpot? That sounds good:)

I think a lot of you saw on Facebook...but I was offered the job!! It's in suburban New Orleans so I'll be moving down there in just 10 weeks! :cool1:

WFD - White beans & rice with grilled sausages and a chopped salad.

White? :confused3

I hope to check in later today but I am not sure that I will. My Aunt is not doing well, she is 95 and I think that it is a matter of days. We took turns staying with her all day and night yesterday, she is not waking. She suffered a seizure or stroke while I was with her, and that seemed to make her very uncomfortable. Gail is with her now, she spent the night. I will go after she and my cousin come up with today's plan.

edited to ask that you say a little prayer that she passes in peace, it is her time and she seems to be taking her time finding her way. This is to be expected, she never did have a sense of direction and was easily sidetracked.....I am her niece in this regard..... so I can understand why her journey is taking longer than the nurses thought. We always allowed double the time we needed to go anywhere because we always seemed to take the scenic route.

Nope, don't expect to. Because it's such an old house and has been vacant for years we can expect lengthy inspection reports every time. We just need the right buyer who's ready to buy "as is".

That's frustrating...and there's a bit of competition in that "as is" market down there. :sad2:

Have you been in contact with Sheryl at all?

Thanks guys! :goodvibes It went really well - I heard lots of great comments and my supervisor told me it was perfect. :thumbsup2

Yay! :thumbsup2

Hug the ones you love.

It is such a sad day here at our little church. We have just gotten word that one of our members has died very suddenly.

KADY HAS NO MORE TRACES OF FOOD ALLERGIES!!:cool1::banana::banana::dance3::yay:

Woohoo! I'll bet a donut never tasted so good!

My nerves are starting to get to me a bit for tomorrow.

pixiedust:

It's so cold and pouring rain here. 45°F ...Feels Like 36°F...:scared:

Well another day of not getting caught up here...I will try my best...

Nancy, Prayers for your Aunt and the rest of the family too. Great news about Kady's allergies.

Gretchen, Continued prayers for your Dad.

Ellen, So sorry about your friend.

Janice, I hope you are doing OK today...holidays, bdays, etc are hard when you have lost loved ones.

Maria, You will be in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow. Try and get some rest tonight.

Kathy, Poor Kyle! Give him a hug for me...well, maybe that won't be a good idea...gently Momma!

Bethany, Congrats again!

I am sorry if I missed something. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers too!

Have a great night!

Bethany - You'll learn when you get down here there's white beans on Mondays too! I promised you a pot of red ones, if you like, I'll make you a pot of white ones too.

Lauren - I was so excited to hear Thomas grunting on the phone today, I guess it's an auntie thing, I was almost in tears.:sad2:

I haven't heard a peep from Sheryl, I'll call her soon.

Good Morning!

Thanks for all the congrats to Andrew! Now we have to focus more on Math...Its really hard when work comes home and I don't even understand it. How the heck are they teaching math nowadays??? :confused3

My MIL is supposed to visit today if the weather is OK. We are having meatloaf, mashed potatoes, corn and peas. Comfort food after all this dreary weather we are having.

I have been cheating with my potatoes...I have been buying the ready made Simply Potatoes in the green box. They are really good! :thumbsup2

Have a great day all!

Chicken with artichokes, mushrooms & garlic, pasta and corn.

My ticker has been MIA since last night, the mickeypath website page doesn't even load....:confused3

Thinking of you today Maria. I'll give Greg a call when I get home this afternoon.

Maria- I am praying for success for you today! You are on my mind until I hear good news

DS is regressing with his sleep once again and it is paying it's price on this advanced maternal age pregnant mom. :rotfl: I need to find some solution before Emma comes.
My Dad has been good listening to the doctor's orders and resting to ease his pain. I am going to take my Mom shopping while Dad is napping and then have dinner with them tonight. He told my Mom that Luke is good medicine for him. :goodvibes Sunday was there 51st Anniversary!! It seems like yesterday I was telling you all about there 50th party I was planning. Boy how time flies.

Have a wonderful day my friends!
Ann

I don't have sleep advice, I think they somehow have their own schedule. All that I can suggest is that you make sure you lie down when he is quiet during the day. There are no chores that cannot wait so make sure that you rest before you do clean..

I am so glad to hear that your Dad is doing better :goodvibes

Forgot to mention, I think Kyle has a fractured rib. He was wrestling with a friend Saturday and has been in pain since. Just called the doc and there's really not much other than pain meds which he doesn't want. Any suggestions? I've been giving him ibuprofen and we have him wrapped.

Oh No! I have never had a broken bone either, I imagine Motrin and rest maybe?
Marisa, that is such great news! I am sure that Kady will be thrilled.

She came dancing in with a bag that had had her donut, a little box of ice cream BonBons and told her Pa it was the best day of her life! :cloud9:

Lucky lucky Bethany! New Orleans and Kat's beans and rice!

Thought I would share this recipe my neice made on Easter...it was great. Even she tweaked it a bit.

Raspberry Tiramisu

Her changes:
I cut back on the grand marnier (really only need 3 tblspoons in the jam, 1 in the marscapone) and use a pan smaller than 9.5 / 13 to make sure you fill it up.

We are taking Kady out to lunch today. WHere ever she wants to go.

Dinner is :confused3 I made a big bowl of tunafish for Buddy JIC. My Aunt is not having an easy time. Last night Gail and I insisted that the DR be called and that he schedule morphine for her. He was not going to...it was as needed and then discontinued. We thnk she has suffered a stroke, she cannto speak, swallow or move. How was she going to say she was in pain????????????????????

The nurse told us he would not give her morphine and ativan but after being advised that Gail would be more than happy to have this conversation with him adn that he could explain to us how he could ensure that she was not in any pain as she is suffering these seizure like episode, adn while she has not been able to take any nourishment since Friday he relented. I think he remembers that last two standoffs with her, and he lost both. Gail camped out iont eh ER and would not mocve until he took her off of teh meds that were having such adverse affects on my Aunt, and the second time she roused him out of bed adn had him dragged in to the facility in teh middle of the night.

My heart is breaking, not just for her. What about people who have no family to advocate for them when they cannot speak for themselves? :sad1: We have been caring for my Aunt for years, we know how she reacts and can see the pain in her face. The staff there is so caring for her but they cannot overrule the DR, who only knows her as a patient for less than one year. Her nurse told me she had to fight for the ativan :sad2: So, we are not leaving her alone, one of us is there all day and all night.

This just breaks my heart, Nan.

GUESS WHAT!?!!?!?!?!?

:cool1::cool1: Woohoo...great news for Kady!! :cool1::cool1: So cute picturing her telling her Pa carrying her donut! ;)

Bethany, congrats on your new job and becoming a NOLA girl.

Maria, prayers coming your way. Maria had to be in for 7:30 and surgery was scheduled for 8:30am.

Nancy, warm wishes coming for your Aunt. She is fortunate to have loving family around her.

Gretchen & Sheryl, prayers to you both!

DS did better last night. I decided not to nap him yesterday. He still got up but at least I was able to get him back down and we got a long stretch in.

Weather is so gloomy here. WFD- baked chicken, creamed corn, and rice pilaf.

Nancy--yay for Kady! What a relief for her and you!:cool1:

Maria--lots of thoughts and prayers today:hug:

Sorry I've been MIA for a couple days, my allergies have been acting up and I've been miserable. I thought the rain would wash away most of the pollen this weekend. But apparently, it just washed into my yard. :sad2: Did grill some chicken teriyaki kebabs on sunday and then had roast chicken last night. I'm leaving lasagna for my mom tonight.

Maria, I hope all goes well today.

Nancy, I am sorry your Buddy's aunt.

Stephanie, my allergies are acting up too! I guess it is that time of year.

Here are photos from yesterday. I made extra because I have plans for the leftovers. Devilled eggs:

Hey Y'all,

Maria, My thoughts & prayers are with you this morning.

Gretchen, I've been thinking about you & praying for your Dad.

Nancy, I feel so sad for your aunt & your family. It is never easy.

Marisa & Nancy, What great news for Kady!! Wow!!! :goodvibes Can she eat anything now? no restrictions?

I sure have missed all of you. My brain fog is lifting some, so I am able to focus long enough to check in.

I have good news with Angelina! :goodvibes Her back is feeling better & the pain down the leg is improving too! She also has a job offer, but terms aren't firmed up yet! She also got a call from that company she had interviewed with about another position.

As for me, The dr office didn't get back with me until yesterday about scheduling the surgery. I was hoping for early May but they now don't have anything until the 25th. I am thinking about holding off until July. My niece's wedding shower is May 30th & her wedding is July 11. The nurse said I still might not be in great shape for the wedding if I have surgery on the 25th. So I am waiting to speak with the dr, to see if he thinks I can hold out until mid July.

Just when I think I have my decisions all worked out in my brain, the aide didn't show up last night. No phone call either. DH tried to call but had to leave a message. She left a message on his phone sometime during the night that she thought we changed from Monday to Tuesday. :confused3 Nooo, last week she called & asked if she could come on Tues instead of Monday. Aargh!

Becky, Yum!
