The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Okay so funny story from work today. I think I shared before that we have this new sub that KEEPS COMING BACK to this school. I've seen him a lot, but haven't really talked to him. I have heard rumors that he has been asking people about working (full time) in the building. We all think he's nuts. Last night, between conference sessions, somebody was saying what he had done when he covered their class. He put on classical music on the cd player and told them to listen to it- for the whole period! So I said I wanted to see this guy in action.

Today, he covered my class for a period. He didn't have anything planned for them to do, so he decided they should label all 50 states on a blank US map. So he asks if I have maps. :confused3 Well, (for some bizarre reason) there are blank US maps in their math workbooks. :confused3 So we get those out and most of the kids were actually able to label ALL 50 STATES. In FIRST GRADE. :cool1:

But the funniest thing was that this guy talks in the 3rd person. Everything he says starts with "Mr. [Smith]...", as in "Mr. Smith does NOT like talking.....Mr. Smith likes to see everyone working nicely....."

Then the kicker..."Mr. Smith CAN BE VERY VERY EVIL!!! MR. SMITH SAID BE QUIEEEET!!!" :scared1: :lmao: :rotfl2:

OMG I had to leave the room because I was trying so hard not to laugh.

Bethany That guy sounds like he is a few cards short of a full deck :rolleyes1 and they let him loose around kids. :confused3

Bethany - " Mrs Scotlass thinks Mr Smith is a nutter !! "

Ladies, I am back for some prayers. Timmy is leaving for Iraq in the morning and I would appreciate it if you send some prayers for him. I knew he was leaving soon, bu tit still it unexpected somehow. I know I said I never thought that I would be thanking God for Iraq, he was originally supposed to go to Afghanistan, but I am scared for him. :sad1: He drives one of those MRAP's so he is on the road.

His elevator doesn't go all the way to the top. His river doesn't run all the way to the sea. (Is it sad that I learned all these from Oscar the Grouch on Sesame Street?)

Nancy -- Timmy is in my thoughts and prayers. I hope he is on a mission where he feels like he is doing some good.

I am clueless on Twilight as well.

I probably won't be on here for the next couple of days. Tomorrow, Caili and I are helping to stimulate the economy by buying new skates and visiting the American Girl store. Liam is getting his haircut. Tomorrow night, Beck, BIL and I are increasing the stimulus package by going to a movie and going out to eat. Sunday, Caili is testing out her new skates and then going to a birthday party.

He's a sandwich short of a picnic.....

Hey guys - what are y'all planning for Easter lunch? Trying to get ideas!

Not sure, yet. We are going to my dad's house. I think he'll order a honey baked ham, and we'll decide on sides when we find out which of my siblings will be there. I like to make sweet potatoes and some kind of green veggie. I know dad will make a jello because he knows the grandkids love it. If my sister comes, she'll make a cake, but if not, I'll put together some kind of fresh fruit tart or trifle. As I said, it's all up in the air, right now.

Did you post the recipe? If so, what's the actual cake name?

I can't find it here. I have to pick it up at Williams Sonoma when I go there. I LOVE the stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't posted the recipe. I found it on the Food Network site. I was watching her show "Paula Deen's best recipes" and it was on a show she did with her brother. I'll see if I can find the link. I think it's something like, "Mama's No-Fail Pound Cake" or something like that.

Hi All,

I have received some of your contact info., thank you.

I will have the list ready by next weekend & forward it to everyone that's participating.
For anyone that missed the original post we are getting an emergency list together for who ever would like to participate.
Lyndsay included her regular e-mail as well which I think is a great idea!

TIA:)

Peggy - I'm so sorry for the loss of your doggie! We lost ours a year ago, and it's still hard. However, I can look back with great fondness. We buried her under our cherry tree, and it's in bud now. Can't wait to see it blossom.

Wendie - I'm so sorry for all that you are going through. You are in my prayers as you have to deal with all this. Wish I could help, somehow.

Nancy - Timmy is in my prayers, as are all the men and women in the military. Laura's husband, included. Hopefully, all the loved ones we have in harm's way will come back unscathed!

Dinner tonight will be bean with bacon soup. Fast and easy. Jacob is having dinner with his best friend so they can watch the season finale of Clone Wars together. Katie is going to a welcome home party for her best friend that moved back from Mexico. So, it's just the twins, Timothy and Alan and I. After dinner, it's back to square one on the chef hats. They didn't work out the way I wanted them to, but I got some ideas from another mom, so I'm going to try it again. Then, I have goodie bags to put together. I also need to bake the cake tonight so it can sit in the fridge over night before I frost it.

I sure hope I remember to take pictures of this party. Maybe I should say I hope this party turns out ok. I stress so much over the kids parties, that Alan laid down the law, and only lets the kids have friend birthday parties on odd years. Even years it's family only. Much easier!

Just heard from Wendie, she's very scared and nervous as her dad has been in surgery for over 4 hours. She wanted me to thank y'all for the prayers and I assured her we would continue until we hear further from her.:guilty:

My personal favorite from the movie The Green Mile, "I think the cheese done slid off his cracker"

Dinner ended up being a chicken from Costco, so yummy!
