The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Hello, just wanted to let you know I have alot to do tomorrow and I try not to turn the computer on on the weekends so I might not be around. Now that I've posted my husband's medical condition for the world to see, I didn't want anyone to worry.

Hey! Quick check in...

Thomas did really well at the doc. He had minor jaundice that has gone away and lost some weight but its OK...He is now 8#s.

Don't worry about me cooking. I need to move around to get the swelling down...they gave me so much IV fluids that I blew up. I almost had to wear slippers to the docs today since my feet are triple the normal size. Tom and A have been great. Tom is just doing amazing with the baby and Andrew just adores Thomas.

Dinner was good. I did pork chops with onions, garlic, chicken broth, mush soup and a touch of sherry. It was super easy and yummy!

I go to the doctor tomorrow and have my staples removed.

Glynis, that chicken recipe looks great!

Gretchen, good to see you here. I hope all is well. I have not really read back...

Prayers for Maria, her Mom, Robyn's hubby, Kyle, Aimee and anyone else that may need them.

Please keep Charles in your Prayers too. He was admitted to the hospital on Monday with low oxygen and salt levels and will be there for a few more days. They started some treatment today. Apparently, it is in his lungs too. Needless to say, I am so upset.

Have a great night all...

Charles has never left my prayers but I will remind Greg & my Mom.
I am sending you nothing but pure joy for your little Thomas!!! Such an amazing thing! Rest your body.....

Lauren------I know that you are feeling well but you have had a few days to stay off your feet and had help at the hospital. You are home now so please resist trying to go back to "normal". Your body has a lot of healing to do so please please rest.

Charles is in my daily prayers, I think of him often

Kathy- Poor Kyle. Will he have another chance duringf the week?

Maria- I am so glad you are home. Hugs to your Mom and more for you too! I hope you get well soon.

Rogue- Have a good weekend and sending P&P for your DH!

Sheryl- P&P for Angelina

I made Glynis curried chicken and it was awesome! I served baked potatoes and baked sweet potatoes, steamed brocolli and corn. I made salad but forgot to put it on the table.

Ladies, I probably will not get on tomorrow. I need to go have a procedure called Novasure done, I am still having the same issues that I had before. This has an 80% success rate so hopefully I can avoid a hysterectomy. It is day surgery so I'll be home early. Marisa will let you know that i am home.

They play again on Saturday, we'll see.

I will be praying that your procedure goes well tomorrow. Please know that I'll be with you in spirit.

Ann, I'm sorry about the bathing suit. But being preggers is the best excuse ever for not looking %100 in a bathing suit. Just think about some of the sights you've seen at the pool, :scared: I know some are just plain scary & it had nothing to do with being pregnant!

Ann, Sheryl and Becky are absolutely right. You're having a baby for heavens sake, anyone looking at you will be wondering when you are due, etc. Buy a bathing suit and go to the pool with your son. I think you'll regret it if you don't. And just in case you are still worried about your appearance, let me leave you with this mental image of our most memorable sighting during November's trip. A man, probably in his late 60s or early 70s, just shy of 6 feet, at least 350 pounds, in nothing but a black speedo and a cowboy hat. :scared1: I'm serious. So I bet no matter how bad you may think you look, you won't be anywhere near the scariest thing the lifeguards have seen that week. ;)

He's very frustrated, he just called. They only played one game instead of two today and he didn't get in.:sad2:

 Hugs for both of you. I'm pulling for him and praying for him.

Thanks, we would have worried. We'll be looking for you on Monday to see how your DH is.

I'll be praying for you too. I hope things go well and this keeps you from having to go the hysterectomy route.

Janice I lost my quote of yours but I wanted to point out that I noticed you seem to have found your way back to the Trader Joes. ;) Have you now decided it is a bad thing it is so far from you? :rolleyes1

Well ladies, I think I'm going to sign off and take a nice long bath. Dinner is over, P & A are in bed, Hailey is watching her TV with the dog sleeping by her side, and Kenny is in the kitchen washing dishes. Happily it doesn't look like anyone needs me so I think I'm going to make a break for it. See you all tomorrow.

Merle I haven't tried the chicken teriyaki yet. I like the little chines dumpling things I can't remember the name they are bitesize. Good for parties.

I used to get the other ones, gyoza?, and would put some frozen ones in about a cup of chicken broth with some peas for lunch. I would make it the night before. :thumbsup2 Going to try that with these new ones.

And the chicken is really easy and fast. It's grilled chicken that comes with two packs of sauce. I would just microwave half a package, add one of the sauce packets and have it with whole wheat cous cous.

Kat, I'm so sorry about Kyle, he is in my prayers.

Love the potstickers from TJ & always keep their frozen artichoke hearts in the freezer for dips, fried for a side dish or to add in a sauce. I like all their frozen veggies.
They also have some great coffees & sparkling lemonade which is delicious with a splash of pomegranite vodka!!!!!!

Warning I have been sucked into the Twitter world while sick!

I have the artichoke hearts too, didn't think about frying them. I like them in a salad with tuna, orzo, lemon juice, dill and Kalamata olives.

I lost the recipe to my blackening spice so I winged it! :rolleyes1 It was a tad spicy. :rotfl: Next time I need to cut down on the peppers. Made some good goat cheese grits to go with them and also reduced some Basalmic vinegar. So good but it sure cleared my sinus' while I was making it. :rotfl:

Ann~ this bathing suit thing is bothering me!!!!!!!

I say put a bathing suit on proudly and prance your gorgeous self around!!!!
You are pregnant and have a wonderful son that will be heart broken if you don't enjoy the pool together like you usually do!!!!
IMO nothing is more beautiful than a pregnant woman, your blessed, healthy & going on vacation!!!!!
Have the time of your life!!!! :goodvibes

Please don't take that as me preaching it is said out of love & respect.

Nancy - Good luck with your procedure tomorrow! You will be in my prayers until I hear you are ok.

I'm so glad you liked the curry chicken. I had forgotten how much I like it. I'm moving it to the front of my binder so I'll remember to use it more often.

Lauren - Charles will continue to be in my prayers. You've gotten some good advice from the ladies here, and I hate to continue "preaching", so I'll just say, listen to your body. It will tell you when you have done enough.

Kathy - I'm so sorry that things aren't working out the way Kyle wants/expected them to. I hope that things happen that will let him be at peace with whatever decision he makes.

I'm going to head off tonight. Timothy is going through a growth spurt, and wants to eat a lot. I'm going to feed him, and then snuggle him!

Nancy! I'm sorry you're still having issues. I hope this does the trick.

I got in from work at 930 and my whole body is now achy. Evidently the twisting I did in the fall is going to affect everything. I can take my colon having issues but I don't appreciate my body throbbing  I'm on the heating pad and ibuprofen and we'll see how I am in the morning. :confused3

I am picking up Ace the new foster tomorrow afternoon :yay:

Well you guys, I finally got a good night's sleep last night. After dinner I made myself a prosecco and cranberry juice. Tee hee, I think that did the trick!

Lindsay Glad you finally got some sleep. I have to fix myself a nice glass of something when I get into those slumps.

It finally looks like we are going to warm up. It is going to be in the 40's this weekend.:woohoo: I am soo tired of the windchill readings.

Sheryl Sorry our "quick" chat about Mary Kay turned into such a marathon.;) It was nice hearing a voice.

Not sure about dinner yet I'm still waking up.

Good Morning!

Thanks for the prayers and good thoughts for my brother. I talked to him last night and he continues to be in alot of pain.

Nancy, Prayers for you today.

All this talk of TJs...now I want to go!!! Maybe in the next month.

Ann, Do not worry about the bathing suit. I had a maternity one that I looked horrid in but did not care...I was sitting at the pool enjoying my vacation. And, the girls are right, you will never see those people again anyway so just go, be proud of your belly and enjoy. I wore basically the same things when we went to Disney. I had jean, black and kahki capris and and capri jogging set. Those things and an assortment of T's, a white button down, one dressy top and a black cardigan got me through the week. Have you checked out JC Penney Maternity?

Kat, I hope Kyle gets to play today. Is he getting a chance to enjoy the World at all?

Dinner is going to be take out or something Tom whips up. Andrew has his first baseball practice tonight and then going to his Dad's. I felt great all day yesterday, until I fell asleep and did not take my pills. I have to make sure I stick to the schedule...

Have a great day all! If I miss something major, can someone please PM me? I feel so out of touch...

Sheryl, Maria, Kyle, Charles, and Robin's DH good thoughts and prayers are coming your way. :grouphug:

Thank you all for making me feel better over my stupid bathing suit issue. (Gretchen, Maria, Becky & Sheryl you are all very wise wonderful friends). Some of the visual images you all painted had me :rotfl: .

Today I am taking Luke for new sneakers for WDW. Last time he wore crocs and had a reaction, his feet peeled for a couple of months. While we are out shopping I am going to go see if I can find a bathing suit. If not I am going to wear the one I have proudly and enjoy my son on one last vacation before his sister arrives!

DH has to work, so dinner will be at my parents.

Sunday my DM is having a big crowd of us over for a traditional St. Patrick's Day meal. Corned beef is not my favorite but sure it will be fun.

:flower3: Have a wonderful day!
Ann

Fortunately, I have enough of summer maternity clothes from DS that I can use. I just never ventured into a bathing suit. I did check JC Penney Maternity but none in my size range. I am on a search today.

Glad you are all happy and healthy, kiss that little cherub for me!
Ann
