The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Hello All,

Came home from Florida late Sunday night.......thought I came home with a cold but managed to bring home what my nephew had...103.4 body pain, throat, ears etc. & I have ended up in the ER 2x. I was also in the ICU visiting someone in Florida & they had also caught this virus/infection from the baby. Those baby germs are ridiculous!!!!!
DM is having a very tough time with major changes at the hospital due to budget so I ask for some prayers for her she is broken hearted & I'm so concerned for her.

Tonight we were supposed to see HAIR on Broadway which isn't going to happen & at this point not sure about Portugal next week with the way my ears are not recovering.

House hunting was interesting......saw 30+ properties saw 2 I loved and they both were deposited a day or two before I showed up. I will go back in April to start again.

Disney was beautiful weather wise and we had sneak peaks of the Flower Show they were setting up for.....The new American Idol was really fun, we saw a 5 o'clock show and it was great, when we heard that 7pm was the finale for the day we actually stayed in the Studios had dinner in the Brown Derby so we could go back for the 7pm....There was a girl Murella who was just amazing & she won for the day. She "won" a ticket to the front of the line for any audition in the country for the next season so that was really exciting!
Here is where we ate:
Brown Derby
Spoodles
France
The Plaza Restaurant
Big River Brewery
*basically places reservations weren't needed.......I managed a few hot fudge sundaes in there.

I'm going to try to scroll back......I missed you guys!
Next time I'm going to text all victims that are willing to share your cell numbers. I no longer do well without a computer!!!!! I felt so out of touch especially when I needed to vent about house hunting & was on eggs shells about Lauren.

Robin and Aimee, wow, sounds like you both need a hug!

I want to scream I just hate maternity clothes. I am really bummed out I thought I could get away with my regular swimsuit this trip but I hate how I look. All the maternity in my size are ugly or to much money to waste on just one vacation!!!! I just love taking DS in the pool on vacation and now I am really not looking forward to it.

Rant over!!!

You know, just don't worry about how you look. None of those people sharing the pool with you at Disney are ever going to see you again! If you don't like how your suit fits, wear a pair of shorts and/or a big t-shirt over it. You are pregnant, you get a pass on the "fashionable in a bathing suit" front. Heck, you should see what I wear when I am on the beach in the Caribbean! I have a regular bathing suit, but I wear a rash guard over it, and knee length board shorts, and I tie a bandana around my head too! My Dad has been having sarcomas chopped off of him for the past couple of years due to overexposure to the sun, and I am not going down that road.

I told them it was a new recipe called "candy chicken", and they ate it with no problem!

:rotfl: Of course they did. ;)

I love your way of thinking!!! Thanks for the post, I needed to hear that.

I never posted WFD- American Chop Suey and Arugala salad

Lauren, So happy you & little T are doing well! :goodvibes

BUT, YOU are cooking????!!!! I don't think so lady! Don't you know you JUST had a baby?! I think someone needs to be cooking for you. I wish I was there to bring you food! :sad1:

Aimee,  Poor Aimee! What a rotten couple of days!

Stephanie, It's sleeting in Arkansas! :scared: Be safe out there. I hope we won't be getting any of that!

Merle, I hope you feel better & get some badly needed rest!

Maria, You poor girl! You have been too sick lately! I hope you get over this, it sounds awful. Glad you had a nice trip anyway.

Ann, I'm sorry about the bathing suit. But being preggers is the best excuse ever for not looking %100 in a bathing suit. Just think about some of the sights you've seen at the pool, :scared: I know some are just plain scary & it had nothing to do with being pregnant!

Glynis, I like that candy chicken! I might have to try that out on Alexis!

Thanks everyone for all the prayers for DD!!! :grouphug: Nan, She hasn't actually had the 3rd interview yet, don't know if this extra meeting with the manager, will negate their formal processes or not. I'm just hoping she gets an offer.

I forgot dinner is going to be NY strips, baked sweet potatoes, sauteed mushrooms & salad or sauteed spinach.

Quick check in.

We are home and getting adjusted. Baby only got up 2Xs during the night and is doing well. We went to the pediatrician today and all is good. I go tomorrow to get my staples removed.

Kat, How is Kyle doing?

Glad to hear Thomas is settling in and you are feeling so good. Please take it easy my friend.

Kyle called me this morning and told me to start praying, he will be coming in, in relief, in one of today's games. This could determine whether he will pursue his baseball college career. I've been on pins and needles all day.:guilty:

Hey all, things so far seem to be going good here. It's just frustrating because I know he's in a lot of pain and there is really nothing to be done.

Oh my... he's had a rough year+

We've been talking about the redshirt deal if it happens and the thought of him staying at this community college for a third year isn't that appealing, so we'll see.

Is that orange chicken from Trader Joe's that good? Is it high in fat and calories? I'm asking because a friend offered to pick up anything I wanted and send it to me so I'm taking Trader Joe suggestions!:goodvibes

They have these new chicken cilantro potsticker/dumpling thingy's that are really good. ;) I like the Chicken Teriyaki too.

Kathy You had to bring up the calorie thing HUH:rolleyes1 . We like the orange chicken cause it is a fast dinner. According to the package each 1 cup serving has 210 calories 7grams of fat. (it is batter fried) sodium 270 mg and total carbs 16g

Have you looked through the website Lauren posted http://www.traderjoesfan.com/magazine/

Merle I haven't tried the chicken teriyaki yet. I like the little chines dumpling things I can't remember the name they are bitesize. Good for parties.

That's not TOO bad, do you do their fried rice or egg rolls? Thanks for posting that thread again, I couldn't find it.

This explains it very well but keep in mind Kyle is at a Community College which is a two-year school, therefore, if he's redshirted he'd be there a third year.

Redshirt is a term used in American college athletics that refers to delaying or suspending an athlete's participation in order to lengthen his or her period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, a number derived from the four years of academic classes that are required to obtain a bachelor's degree at an American college or university. However, a student athlete may opt to redshirt for one year which allows the athlete to spread those four years of eligibility over five years. In a redshirt year, a student athlete may attend classes at the college or university and practice with an athletic team, but he or she may not play in games. Using this mechanism, a student athlete has up to five academic years to use the four years of eligibility, thus creating the phenomenon of the "fifth-year senior."

Janice/Lauren/Merle - I remember there was a DIS thread where folks listed their fave items from TJ's. Is anyone subscribed to it? I can't find it.

Thanks.
I understand his reluctance.
He must be so frustrated.

He's very frustrated, he just called. They only played one game instead of two today and he didn't get in.:sad2:

Kat, I'm so sorry about Kyle, he is in my prayers.

Love the potstickers from TJ & always keep their frozen artichoke hearts in the freezer for dips, fried for a side dish or to add in a sauce. I like all their frozen veggies.
They also have some great coffees & sparkling lemonade which is delicious with a splash of pomegranite vodka!!!!!!

Warning I have been sucked into the Twitter world while sick!

Kathy I don't know if you are an oatmeal person but I like their irish oatmeal I think it is cheaper there too. I get their pasta's they have a good selection. they have a good organic selection too.
