The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Aimee I forgot to mention he is a cutie. I could never even just look at dogs or cats. They would all be in my home. I would be know as the crazy lady with the million dogs and cats.

Aimee - God bless you for what you do. If I could I would do the same thing, he is such a sweet looking dog.:cloud9:

Wow...I couldn't do it! That dog looks kind of like your Winston. He's a cutie. Hopefully his adoption works out well.

I read about your Sweetie on FB. he is so cute and is lucky that the two of you found each other.

Aimeedyan,

What a cute doggie! paw:

Thanks all! I've been anxious about the decision to bring him home all day but then I see his face and know that otherwise, he'd be dead before I'm out of bed tomorrow morning. Sadly, there are so many others just like him and I wish people would just adopt and quit supporting breeders :sad1: At that one shelter of 20 dogs, they had a purebred yellow lab, purebred manchester terrier, purebred poodle, purebred beagle, purebred Shar Pei and purebred shih tzu. I know all of those will be adopted easily so I went for the guy that didn't have a chance. Sadly, I had to leave behind 3 others that were not adopted yet and likely wouldn't be. The Shar Pei was also set to be put down tomorrow but thankfully a Shar Pei rescue snatched him up this afternoon.

If you, or anyone you know, is interested in the little guy let me know and I can get him to you. Seriously. I will obviously know more this weekend about him and will keep you posted in you're interested. I don't want to bore anyone

Aimee- I have a feeling that pup has already found it's forever home.

No, I really can't do 4 dogs. I LOVE my dogs but we feel complete with 3. We also really hope to have a 2 legged kid in the near future and I think an infant, FT job, and 4 dogs would send me to the loony bin. I went ahead and adopted him because I really am confident he's fairly adoptable. Not all dogs are but I think he is.

Aimee- you are breaking my heart :sad1::sad1: I wish I could take in a dog, Kady would love one but my Punkin is 17 and she would never adjust. She would just stay to herself. Sassy would chase a dog...she took off after Otto (debbie's beagle) and the poor thing was terrified.

BTW- it is sleeting or freezing rain here GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

She was the Public Relations Director.

She was more senior than I was, but with all her skills, I am sure she will find something. Best wishes to her in this next interview! Even if it is not her dream job, it is insurance, bills and hopefully, vacation time!

Aimee -- You are so generous. I hope you find that cute dog a good permanent home. I know he has a great temporary one.

Bethany -- I am so glad everything worked out with your apartment. One less thing to worry about!

Janice- If you dip apples in the leftover, would that make it healthy?

Robin makes a great point. Good caramel should not go to waste.

Oh please don't send that this way!

So...I did get Liam to his tryout tonight, and got back in plenty of time for Idol. Why? We were the first people there. Liam was the first kid to tryout. He did fine, and we got home in time for the kids to get to bed and me to watch Idol. Of course, now I am still up because I didn't get to really eat until we got home.

Strange thing is they totally got rid of the whole PR dept! :confused3 I gave her your advice and she said to thank you for her. :goodvibes She also said to tell you that she is considering EVERY avenue. She couldn't even give me a count of the resumes she has sent out.

Glad Liam did well and Mom got home to watch Idol!

Bethany, The 2 threads are definitely intertwined aren't they?! Glad the apt. stuff has worked out!

Janice, Just send me the caramel with a spoon!! ;)

I had a very nice afternoon. I picked up A from school headed over to DD's. We went to the seafood lot, I bought shrimp. Then we headed over to the park, walked the walking track a little, Alexis played in the playground. The weather is unusually nice this week, warm but not too hot & humid yet. I guess this is what summer probably feels like for some of you!

I'm going out to lunch tomorrow with DD & my Mom. :goodvibes The same rest. us NOLA girls went to on Saturday, it was that good.

Tonight we are having leftover not-sagna pasta.

This is the little guy I want to adopt. Be sure to read his story.
*Edit: he is not longer on the list. He must have been adopted. He was a white cat named Frosty, and he was deaf :(

Have fun!

Lauren - Any idea when you'll be going home?

Kyle leaves for WDW this morning, I'm sad I'm not going...:sad1:

WFD - Pork tenderloin in a Marsala sauce, scalloped potatoes and zucchini crisps.

Good Morning!

Quick check in...I am waiting for my doctor to come in and get Thomas to be circumcised and then we will get released to go home! :cool1:

My MIL is cooking dinner. Roast chicken, stuffing and I am not sure what else.

I hope to get caught up soon...

Aimee, You are awesome to foster that cute dog!

Janice, That is a great looking cake! I agree with Kat...what mess?

Have a great day all!

Kat- I'm sure the Kyle is going to have a good time. Is he going for a series of games?

Lauren- I love your new siggie!

I have to cook chicken tonight, it is in the fridge so that's it. I have no idea what to cook with it, I am all discombobulated lately and cannot get out of my own way :dance3::dance3:

Lauren, you must be excited to be heading home with Thomas!

Kathy, I hope Kyle has fun in WDW!

I think I am making asian noodle bowl tonight. Here are pictures from the past two meals. Monday I made indian food. Here are the samosa, pakora, and naan:

Good morning everyone!

Welcome home Thomas!

Kathy- I'd be sad too, my parents stay at Fort Wilderness for Jan, Feb, and March. It's hard not to be jealous, but we are planning on spending our retirement the same way- only 30 more years!

Lindsay- I'm sure he found a good home, do you still have the stray that was in your backyard?

Sheryl- It sounds like your daughter is really well prepared, I'm sure she'll find something. In the mean time, I'm glad your getting to lunch together and make the best of a bad situation.

Nancy- Our cat really keeps our dog in line, the dog is terrified of the cat. Dog is 60 pounds, cat is 8. In the dogs defense, I'm scared of the cat too, he's not a pleasant animal. Our dog being a nervous wreck is the only thing keeping me from really pushing for a second dog.

Aimee- Our dog came from Tennessee, we actually had a hard time finding a puppy to adopt here. I really wanted a puppy for my daughter's first dog, but in the future I would consider an older dog. I understand the "complete" feeling, we are very happy with 1 child, but people assume we don't love her because we don't want more!?! I'm glad there are people like you who have the strength to foster dogs and let them go.

I think I'm roasting chickens for dinner tonight. Thursdays are a busy night for us, so I would like to have leftovers. I think brown rice and carrots on the side.

Morning everyone!

I'll try to visit more often, even when I feel like I have nothing to contribute, or am a little embarrassed as to what's on the table for dinner.

Embarrassed might not be the right word....I know y'all won't judge. I'm still amazed at the dinners y'all put together with the busy lives all of you lead.

What am I rambling on about? Tonight's dinner request from the kiddos - Hot Dog spaghetti. OK - promise you won't laugh (well, maybe you can). It's a time-proven recipe that I grew up eating. I realize now it was cheap meal that mom threw together to satisfy us, but it ended up being a favorite. Oh, and none of those fancy Nathan's hot dogs go into this one. It's got to be the cheapy, so bad for you, don't ask what goes into them hot dogs! :rotfl: One saving grace - I actually make my sauce rather than dumping out a jar.

Funny, my sisters and I were laughing about this very meal just over Mardi Gras. We figured we were the only ones who shared this, but I knew of a co-worker who secretly loved the same stuff!

Aimee- what a generous heart you have!

Yay! Lauren and Thomas are going home. Ok, Lauren, time for my lecture. Even though you are going home, you need to remember that you just had major surgery. Let the boys wait on you hand and foot! Do NOT pick up anything over 5 pounds. You will be so sore that it could really hurt you. Get as much rest as you can! It's important to do this, because you don't have the nurses to help you out with the baby. You need to let Tom and Andrew help out so that you can get your strength back. Do drink your water, and walk around as much as you can. It will help strengthen your muscles. The biggest thing for me was the emotional aspect of things. As the pregnancy hormones leave your body, you will get terribly emotional over nothing. Let it happen. Cry when you feel like crying, and laugh when you feel like laughing. Be sure and let Tom know when you feel like things are turning really depressing. Sometimes, it can get really bad. Don't keep anything in. Most of all, just love that little guy! He is so amazing!

Sheryl - My prayers are with Angelina as she looks for a new job. It's not easy to be out of work with a family to deal with! I'm just glad she has you. Take care of yourself, too. I'm glad you are comfortable enough with us to use us as a sounding board!

Aimee - What a cute doggie! My kids are begging me for a new dog, but I'm just not up to it until Timothy is toilet trained!

Gina - Fish tacos sound yummy! I'm addicted to them! Good thing I'm not going out today, or I might just run to Del Taco for a platter of them!

Dinner last night was another hit! Taco pizza. Have I posted that recipe? It's a favorite with all my kids.

Dinner tonight will not be a hit with my kids, but it's what I want, so it's what we're having: curried honey chicken. My kids hate curry! I love it! I figure, I've been cooking what they want for a long time, it's about time I have something I want!

Kat- I'm sure the Kyle is going to have a good time. Is he going for a series of games?

Yes, they're playing six games, I believe, over a 5 day span. They will have two and one half days of free time to go park hopping. He's the "designated tour guide" for his group since he's been there so many times.:rolleyes1

Never feel embarrassed here, you contribute by just being here!:goodvibes

I swear, if I lived in your house I'd be 400 pounds.

Southern states have a huge issue with shelters being overflowing. There seem to be more hobby backyard breeders in southern states, which is the largest issue with pet population. My shelter puts down 80% of the dogs that come into it - 50% of those are purebred, many many are puppies. It's very easy to find puppies, even purebred puppies, in rescue in southern states. Lots of "northeners" get dogs transferred to them from southern states since the northern areas don't have as many dogs in shelters. Thank goodness people like you are willing to get a dog out of state!

Dinner tonight will not be a hit with my kids, but it's what I want, so it's what we're having: curried honey chicken. My kids hate curry! I love it! I figure, I've been cooking what they want for a long time, it's about time I have something I want!

Have you posted that recipe?

It's a typical Wed for me - I'll eat on the run. DH is grilling steaks tonight, if the rain subsides enough. We got a wicked cold front last night that dropped the temp 20 degrees in about 20 minutes.
