The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Ann- I was just thinking about you, I had the most delicious grapefruit just now. I still have the other half that I'm trying to save for later. How's the little bird doing?
The bird flew into the woods at the edge of the yard. DH said he is going to look for him once he gets home.

I am jealous, I am out of grapefruit right now! Thanks for thinking of me:goodvibes

I just love this pic and wanted to share it with y'all....

Awwwww!!! Wow Lauren looks so beautiful!!! and happy!

back to catching up!

Hey All!

Sorry I have not been around much. It's been a little nutty in the hospital. I was going to post more last night when I posted that pic but Thomas decided to stay awake and want to eat all night so that went out the window. I finally got him to sleep around 5am and the nurse came in about 6 waking me up that he was crying. I did not even hear him.

I talked to the dr this morning when he took off my dressing and he started me on motrin with the percoset and that seems to be working better. I guess since I was being fed through IV and was under general anethesia there are certain time frames when I can take certain meds. Did I mention my feet and legs are keep swelling even bigger??? From all of the IVs I have had. It will take about 2 weeks to go down. Jeez, being put under really did me in. I guess it was good for my nerves though since I slept through it all! The only thing with that was, Tom could not be in the room then so watched through the observation window.

Kat, It was good to talk to you before. I will call you back tomorrow. This place is like Grand Central Station. I hope you feel better...Hugs for you and Kyle. Hopefully it is all premature and all works out.

Love the NOLA meet pics!!! Thank you also for posting the pic of me and Thomas. I have not saved those pics yet and did not even see that one. I have to figure out this picture stuff. I think I figured out how to download from the camera so I may post more pics later. Check out Facebook later. I will then save some to photobucket for here.

Sheryl, Prayers for you and Angelina.

Marilyn, Hope you feel better!

Glynis, Prayers for your neighbor and his family.

I know I missed some stuff...I am sorry. I have nurses, doctors and nursery people in and out of here all day. I freaked before when Thomas was in the nursery getting evaluated and the fire alarm went off. I cried when I saw the emergency doors shut between me and him...thankfully we did not have to leave the building.

Dinner will be filet mignon, mashed potatoes, spinach, salad and fruit (from the restaurant). I am on my own tonight. Tom is spending time with his Mom, who is helping out, and Andrew.

Lauren, It's so good to hear from you so soon!!:goodvibes I'm glad to hear you are getting lots of rest! You & that sweet baby are absolutely beautiful!

Thanks for the prayers, with all you are dealing with, you still worry about everyone else. You are too sweet!

aww..i hope that bird is ok. i am the biggest sap when it comes to animals!!!

WFD: Not entirely sure of the protein..BUT i will be making ranch roasted potatoes and green beans as sides ;)

Hey Y'all,

I don't know what's for dinner. I'm frustrated because my enchiladas came out too salty. I used a different brand of mexican cheeses. I realized the cheese was very salty & thought I had compensated for it, but I didn't.

We did enjoy the sangria.

Hey All!

Thank you for the great compliments on the pic that Kat posted! I will share a little secret with you...Mary Kay!!! I didn't have too much on just concealer, mineral foundation, blush, mascara and lip gloss. Love the stuff! Hair is not done since I was not allowed to shower at that point. Also, I am so am in love with my little guy...he is just amazing!

Lady the Mary Kay can not take credit for how good you look right now!!! :goodvibes

Hey y'all, prayers for Sheryl & her DD please, DD did get laid off from her job today.:sad2:

Kat, Thanks for posting this. Yesterday was a tough day around here. I'm afraid it may get tougher too, if DD doesn't find a job soon.

Thanks to all of you for worrying about Angelina with me! Please continue with the warm wishes & prayers! She is really down in the dumps!

Sheryl I need some of that concealer and other stuff. I keep meaning to mention but I have an old brain lately.

I just finished a carmel apple cake I made it for the guys that worked on my car. They did it for a fraction of what anyone else would charge. :thumbsup2 Got to love guys that don't rip you off. Please forgive my messy stove top I am too tired to clean it and retake the picture.

That's a beautiful cake! :thumbsup2 With my old brain & your old brain you may never wear makeup again!:scared: I'll send you a pm about it. Hopefully....

Speaking of Andrew, today is his 11th birthday! I let him take off from school so he is hanging with Tom and Grandma and they will come here later (around 3:30 and we will have an early dinner and cake).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BIG BROTHER ANDREW!!!!:yay:

Hi everybody! I'm still lurking regularly, but haven't had much of an opportunity to post. I just wanted to jump in and congratulate Lauren and her family on that beautiful big baby boy! As I expected, Kathy was quite the bundle of anticipation during our NOLA meet. We were all excited when the news came across!

Oh, and don't think all of you were left out of our meet. The WFD gang was mentioned several times during the course of conversation! I sure wish y'all could have enjoyed the meal & company with us!

Heeaay Girl! Stop lurking & start sharing some of your good Cajun recipes! :goodvibes

Yes the only thing that could have made our Meet more fun would be a huge gathering with our NOLA & WFD gang!! Maybe one day that will happen in WDW! It would be soo awesome!

I really hope we can keep it going & have a once a month get together! It was soo much fun. I know I need to get out & have more fun like that, much more often.

Happy Birthday Andrew!!

Janice -- I meant to comment earlier on your cake. It looks delicious. I am with Robin, though...it wouldn't be leaving my house.

Sheryl -- You said Angelina was in PR, right? That is what I used to do BC (before children ;) ) Maybe she could do some freelance work for a while? She could also look into other writing-focused jobs. I transitioned from PR to grantwriting.

Like I said, Liam has little league tryouts tonight (what were they thinking scheduling it on a school night, the week after daylight savings time, and during AI??? :headache: ) so I am just making pancakes and bacon. I am planning to get to the tryout early, so hopefully, he will be one of the first kids, and we'll get back in time for bedtime and I can watch Idol.

Dinner tonight will be broiled shrimp. Thinking of putting some type of Asian sauce on them this time. Going to have them with roasted potatoes and green beans.

I hope you are able to get in & out of tryouts quickly this evening! :wizard: What were they thinking???!!

Laura, Thanks! Any ideas you can throw out, we'll be happy ! She was the Public Relations Director. She did a lot of event planning, as well as working with marketing & advertising. She also handled the company's philanthropic projects and did a little grant-writing. I know she will be considering anything & everything right now. She is really worried about the market & finding something. She has been interviewing with a financial company, one of those long multi-interview deals. She will be going back for the 3rd one next week I think.

Hi everybody! I'm still lurking regularly, but haven't had much of an opportunity to post. ?

I'm glad you came out of lurkdom! I hope this means we'll see more of you.

Prayers on the way that this will be the one that seals the deal if this is a job that she wants :thumbsup2

Ann- Hoping the bird is okay.

Happy Birthday Andrew!

Dinner is up in the air. I am fighting the time change here and am just having lunch. Also I got a call from Nola's Mom, she needed someone to watch her for a few hours.

Nancy, It doesn't look like she is going to have the luxury of looking for the "right job" right now. It's going to be more like finding any job!

Merle, Your dinner sounds yummy! I've been craving shrimp, guess I'll have to wait until Friday.

Janice - What mess? That cake looks awesome!!!!!:thumbsup2

Amen!

I got busted with AI....

The boys not a gullible as i thought.:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Welcome! Stick around!

Well, today has been interesting. If you are on FB you might have seen me mention it. There was this dog, posted on Craigslist as urgent (there were 5-6 dogs total, but this one caught my eye). I post on a pet board and it was posted on there. I know better then to look for shelter dogs but this one came to me. Anyways, saw the face last night and told DH I thought we should foster him. He didn't immediately say no...

I really didn't want the hassle of adopting another dog and finding a home but he was cute, and small, and was set to be put down tomorrow morning if not adopted by 6pm today. I called this morning and he was still there. I called this afternoon and he was still there. So I drove 40 miles to the shelter, met him, filled out paperwork, and scheduled his neuter. He'll be coming home with me on Friday afternoon. :rolleyes1

Some friends on the pet board are going to donate to help me pay for his vet bills and I have a family at work already really interested in him. He is underweight and hasn't been seen by a vet yet so we'll know on Fri how his health looks and I can put some weight on him.

He's very cute and very sweet. Once I saw his big sad eyes, no way was I walking away. I need to find him a forever home quickly but my hope is that like with the previous foster pup, he'll fall in with our pack and not be too much work. I'm going to owe DH BIG TIME if you know what I mean...

Tonight DH has class so I'm driving through Mickey D's for crack in a cup with a side of food.

Dinner was good. We had stringbean casserole, corn, grilled pork tenderloin marinated in italian dressing and apple sauce.

Thanks for the comments on the cake it is one of my favorites. It isn't necessarily hard to make just lots of steps. The carmel frosting is cooked so it takes time. I have a "problem" that I have some leftover darn I say. I really want to sit down with the bowl and a spoon, but alas that darn diet is getting in my way.pirate:

tonight we are having baked chicken breasts, brocoli and rice

Happy birthday Andrew

Aimee I forgot to mention he is a cutie. I could never even just look at dogs or cats. They would all be in my home. I would be know as the crazy lady with the million dogs and cats.

Aimee - God bless you for what you do. If I could I would do the same thing, he is such a sweet looking dog.:cloud9:

I LIKE that idea! WFD and NOLA threads are getting to be like sister threads. Lots of people on both now.

Here's some job pixiedust: for your DD. A third interview sounds promising, though!

Wow...I couldn't do it! That dog looks kind of like your Winston. He's a cutie. Hopefully his adoption works out well.

There was like an oil spill on the way to work. They shut down the street for drivers, but left it open for walkers. :confused3 So, we were walking through all the dirt/sand they were dumping on the oil. They had a snowplow out to dump the sand, and the NYPD Hazmat team was out there also.

I got the paper I need to amend the lease renewal so it will end June 30! :yay:

I read about your Sweetie on FB. he is so cute and is lucky that the two of you found each other.

Janice- If you dip apples in the leftover, would that make it healthy?

Aimee- I have a feeling that pup has already found it's forever home.
