The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Good morining everyone, we have a snow day here too. We don't have a lot of snow, but it's really wet and icy. I heard it hitting the window all night.

Lindsay- I hope you add a nice anniversary!

Aimee- We went to disney at Christmas in the 90's, I will never ever do that again. My mom is still in her la la land that it was a great trip. Thankfully we were at wilderness lodge and we could spend alot of time there looking at the gingerbread houses. My mom was a teacher so we are used to going during school vacations, but that was the worst. Sorry for anyone that goes then, I think it would be fine if you are just planning on walking around but no rides.

Lauren- I'm glad you made it through the storm. My daughter was due on fourth of july, I was so worried about summer traffic on Cape Cod on a one lane highway, I never had time to worry about the actual labor. How are Tom and Andrew doing now that everything is getting so close?

Don't know what's for dinner but I know I have to go to the store. I'm going to wait until the snow/ice stops this afternoon.

:cool1: :woohoo: :dance3: :cheer2:

Well, they waited until 5:45, but they DID IT!!!!
THEY CLOSED THE SCHOOLS!!!!!

I'm happy for you!

We lost power yesterday is I missed a lot.....Jeff hit a pole on the next street and kicked power out . He is fine but Buddy thinks Marisa's new Pilot is totaled.....:scared1::scared1:. Someone hit Marisa a few weeks ago, the guy had a bogus ID, was driving an unregistered motor vehicle, was in the country illegally...and their insurance is refusing to pay until they hear from their client. No....their client has not called or responded. Anyway, Marisa has damage that their adjuster saw and the cop said the accident was due to the faulty equipment. She is beyond furious.

Sorry about the accident, thank God Jeff is OK. I don't blame Marisa for being furious, I would be too.

WFD - Red beans & rice, grilled sausages. I'm looking forward to my lunch today, I bought enough arugula to have another salad with pears & gorgonzola....

Lauren - How are you feeling today?????

Liamsaunt.....your bread was in my dream last night!

:rotfl2:

Well, the University I work at is closed! I've worked there for 13 years and this is only the second time they've closed for snow. We've had a bunch of early dismissals, but not outright closings. Needless to say I went back to sleep! In fact I am still in my pajamas.

I am doing something with chicken for dinner--not sure what, but I took some out of the freezer the other day and need to use it up.

 I'm so sorry about the car issues - ins companies can be so hard to work with.

Tonight we are watching two school age boys - taking them to dinner and then they are playing video games with DH at our house. We're going to On the Border. I'm having mexican food for lunch, dinner, and dinner tomorrow night :confused3

Hey Y'all,

Lauren, THIS SATURDAY!!! :yay: :dance3: I do hope you can hold on until the weather improves! I'm sure you are feeling more than ready for Bean to sprout!

I'm worried about all of you with this weather! I'm glad y'all are not having to go to work or school!

Laura, I guess you'd better take some aspirin now! ;)

Nancy & Marisa, I am so sorry to hear about the two accidents!!! That's awful!  There are just no words to help with that! :sad1:

Kat, Arugula, pears & gorgonzola! YUM, isn't that the best! I caught the arugula on sale at Rouse's & I am stocked up too! Have you been to the Rouse's on Tchoupitoulas!! It's big & really well stocked, went there yesterday. Great seafood, (had your crabs!) , meat & produce depts!

Aimee, You must be the BEST Youth Minister Ever!!! :thumbsup2 Have fun at dinner!

I have to go check out Becky's new hair!

Oh but here's a couple of food pics. My pictures have not been coming out very good at all lately. But at least y'all will know I'm still cooking.

I made my 1st attempt with quinoa. Almost a disaster, not because of the quinoa, but the too ripe acorn squash I planned on stuffing with quinoa. So it turned into a sort fall veggie/fruit pilaf with pork chops.

Last night's dinner, I braved the cold to grill an aged NY Strip from WF! I couldn't chance messing it up on the stove or broiler. (DH agreed to buy so we could compare the aging we did on the prime rib!) We had done really well & saved a ton of money, so I'm going to try that with some other cuts. This steak was awesome, it deserves a better photographer & plating specialist! (oohh Becky! ;) )

Aack! My FB is unavailable due to site maintenance! Guess I'll have to do laundry.

Nancy -- How terrible about the accidents. Thankfully, everyone is okay.

Sheryl -- You have me so jealous that you can grill. My grill is buried under a foot of snow.

So far, I just have three girls here, so the noise level isn't too bad. I don't know what they are doing but the ceiling above my head is thumping and there is a lot of giggling and squealing going on. I'm not sure I did myself any favors...I made chocolate chip cookies, so they ate some of those as soon as they walked in the door.

Here's a picture of the cookies:

I think my other neighbor is keeping the boys at her house...at least for now.

I'm pretty sure Caili does have skating -- no official word yet, but it stopped snowing a while ago -- so we will probably just have sandwiches for dinner tonight.

Laura- I would thump around too if I could have your chocolate chip cookies :thumbsup2

Sheryl- your dinner looks great! I cannot grill here either.....it's out there but there is no getting to it.

Becky- this is a jammie day! I hated getting dressed but I knew we might have Nola.

Marisa tried to reach her ins. co. but they are closed due to weather. In the meantime both sets of keys are locked in Jeff's car and Buddy is :headache: because Marisa won't let him have at it with a hanger :scared: It is a fun day here in the G household :dance3:

Laura, Yummy but hide those cookies!!! ;)

I'm sorry to make you jealous over the grill. Does it make you feel any better that it was cold & the wind was really whipping outside when I grilled? I needed the heat of the grill to keep me warm.

Bethany - Nice one on the day off....you seem pleased !! :rotfl:

I also had the day off work but it was because the boy was ill..

Poor wee thing, I hate seeing him in pain.:sad1:

Ok...my Madonna dream.

At first I was Jean Paul Gaultier Madonna...hair slicked back and cone bra !!

I was a real pain and i was shouting at every one.

I was in London and I wanted to go visit my friend.

My security would not let me so i ran away.

Security was my Karate teacher and my high school boy friend !! :confused3

I ran into my and sister and I gave them my cell phone because my security was using it to track me down and if they told any one i would hunt them down....:rolleyes1

I then turned into Buff Madonna we all know and love today.

I was running though the streets of London in gym clothes, Ugg boots and Ray bans.

I got to my friends house and played on her Wii till my security came and I started singing and dancing and throwing golf balls at them.

Then I woke up.

scotlass - Sorry your boy is sick, is he feeling any better?

Love the dream details......:rotfl: ;)

Yes, quite pleased. I'm not AT school but I'm still getting educated. :thumbsup2

I'm getting some stuff done around the house and working on some paperwork that was slightly neglected.

I hope the boy is doing better.

 at your dream!!

AND THOSE COOKIES. OMG. I WANT!!
Who do we talk to about getting a drooling smiley?!?

Nancy, sorry to hear about the car accident nightmare.

Scottlass, hugs to your boy. I wish him well soon.

Laura, your cookies look much better than my boxed brownies I made. I did try to doctor them up by adding tons of nuts and heathbar toffee bits. I better not eat the whole tray before my weigh in tomorrow.

Household updates- we are having our septic pipes snaked tomorrow and a new DirectTV DVR box has been ordered expected to be in around Friday. I am really missing my Days of Our Lives and having regular TV in our family room. I just keep playing movies for Luke over and over again.

I feel much much better finally. DS and I took a 3 hour nap today!

Ann

Ann - Glad to hear you are feeling better. Just noticed your trip is getting close!:thumbsup2

Tell me about it. We have had so much going on with the house and DH's jobs we really need a vacation. Looking forward to the WL, he better not change on me again;)

Hey...

Thanks for asking after the boy.

He is not to good.

He suffers from childhood constipation and as well as the obvious he gets very sore pain in his back.

He has already woken twice tonight crying.

There is not a lot I can do but it breaks my heart.

As for my dream,I have just read it back and it makes me sound kinda crazy!!

Who is on your celebrity Apprentice ?

My friend is going to be on the one over here...the one for regular folks ..not celebrities !!

Hi everyone. Sorry I didn't check in this weekend. I'm happy to report that we are all well! I kept Mary home on Friday, but it was really just a precaution. The school doesn't like them to come in until they've been 24 hours since the last vomiting episode.

We had a quiet Friday night, playing games with the kids, and watching Lord of the Rings.

On Saturday, we cleaned our house in the morning, then spent the afternoon at my sister's house. It was my nephews 12th birthday. We had the first official cook out of the season. Burgers, hot dogs, and chicken! Yum! I made a jell-o salad to go with all the food. The best part was that my dad was there! He drove up to see my niece in her first high school play, Into the Woods. We all had a birthday celebration, then went to the play. It was so much fun! I just wish that we had had more time to visit with dad. I know he's lonely at the house without mom. Apparently, he's decided to remodel the house, well, at least the parts he's hated for the last 38 years. He's ripping out the old wood paneling, scraping the "popcorn" off the ceilings, and putting down marble tile in the dining room. I guess since he doesn't have mom's medical bills anymore, he can spend the money on stuff he's wanted to do. It also keeps him busy so he doesn't have to think.

Dinner tonight will be Italian patties with green salad and brown rice. Not glamorous, but good!

Poor boy....I know it hurts you just as much Mom.

I'm sure your Dad enjoyed the visit as I'm sure he is lonely. The remodeling is a very good thing to keep him busy.:goodvibes

Glynis  For your Dad it is a rough adjustment. I am glad he is feeling some freedom to do the remodel. :thumbsup2 Glad all is well by you.

Scotlas  For "the Boy" I hope he is feeling better. Your dream is way to funny :rotfl2: If I read anything I dreamt about I would be locked up for sure. :rolleyes1

I tried watching celebrity Apprentice last night I had to give up. I can't stop staring at Joan Rivers mouth. I think she should sue whoever did that face lift. I is second only to Michael Jackson's.

Alex stayed home today he was up all night coughing and had a headache this morning. He has to go to school tomorrow it is state testing. I think he will live. I pity whoever he marries he was such a whiner yesterday. Tonight his dad has him. :rotfl: Evil I know. pirate:
