The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

WFDT? Barramundi with brown rice and a broccoli/caulifower medley...hey PiO, have you heard of that fish? It's basically a seabass from Australia...

From what I've heard of Barramundi, it's served so much over there that you can't possibly avoid it. My parents went on one of those "tours" and every night they had Steak and Barramundi..

I get wild barramundi from the market from time to time. I like the texture and taste of Barra but not everyone does.

Did you like it?

....very flaky and mild....I'd definitely make it again....

It is pretty common to find Barramundi on the menu.

In fact....you may not remember...but remember the first time we 'met' on the Dis? It was over a thread I started seeking recommendations for places to eat in Long Beach. You recommended Walt's in Seal Beach. And we went. The fish of the day?

Barramundi!

I remember ordering it and thinking that the fish probably was on the same flight I was on getting to the US. :rotfl2:

If you like fishing, they are apparently a great fish to go-fish. They do play tug of war with the fishermen.

Some people think that their flesh is a little 'muddy'. I have no idea why. I've always thought it was a lovely eating fish.

Yes I do remember that Walt's Wharf had Barramundi on their menu. I remember thinking it was rather apropos, but sorry it wasn't so good.

I made a swordfish last Friday that was just awesome! I dont remember if I posted anything about it here. I was kind of in food coma after that dinner. It was really good. I seem to keep scheduling fish for Friday night and i'm not even Catholic! :rotfl2:

Can someone give me the scoop on the Aldi chicken sandwiches that taste like Chick-Fil-A? I have searched the boards but can't seem to locate the stinkin' info on it!

I shop Aldi all the time, but apparently I'm missing out on these! I am going shopping today and may want to add these to my list! :) Thanks!

Sorry. I can't help you. I don't even know what an Aldi is. We don't have them where I live.

Morning all,

Threecrazykids ~ I am no help either, I don't even have a Chick Fil A and have never eaten them. Sorry

PIO ~ Your feast looked amazing. I love how you all eat. I would fit in really good.

Alison~ How's the diet going? I am so proud of you!!

Kimmar ~ You are so lucky to get fish like you do. This land locked girl loves fish/seafood - all kinds but don't ever get the fresh different varieties you all do. I am so jealous.

Welcome to all the new posters on here. Stick around we don't bite and really do have fun.

Finally a night where we can stay at home. As soon as 4 pm comes I am heading home and I am not leaving until tomorrow. Ethan has 2 Basketball games in Kearney tomorrow and Doug is on call, so I am on my own. But between games and after, I am going to snuggle those grand daughters. I haven't seen Harper in almost a week. :sad2: I can't wait.

WFDT ~ Turkey and noodles over mashed potatoes and banana cake.

Make it a great day.

Well since putting dairy back in, I'm much less depressed. I've had that female thing going on for the last week so I've been retaining water. Today I finally weighed back close to my low weight, but I am continuing on the plan.

Last night's dinner was skirt steaks and squash nests. Basically yellow and green squash julienned, red onion, and carrots grated. Then I tossed it in egg and a tad bit of flour with salt and pepper. I fried it in the pan while the steak rested.

Tonight we are having fish and asparagus/leek soup topped with crab meat.

Aldi is here; but I'm not sure I've ever seen chicken sandwiches there. Maybe they are in the frozen section. :confused3

Ellen - Hope you've seen the grandkids; and particularly Harper since you posted.

Alison - Good on you for getting to a low weight! Keep it up.

Kimmar - Do you use GF pasta for your mac and cheese?

It's hot, hot and hot this weekend. It's way into the 90's and possibly touching 100 by the time mid afternoon gets here. We're just trying to stay cool the best we can.

WFDT? I have no idea. I might pull some mince meat out of the freezer and make some bolognaise sauce for DS. I suspect DH and I will just want a salad.

WFDT? Carne mechada with rice and black beans, and tostones:
