The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

I checked with DS. Turns out he wants burger for dinner tonight as well. :confused3

Who am I to argue?? :goodvibes

Happy Monday all!!
PIO ~ I could eat burgers 2 nights in a row also.

Alison ~ I am proud of you! You are doing a great job. Any weight loss yet?

Brandi ~ Have a good trip. If by chance you happen to be on interstate 80 through Nebraska, let me know. I would love a quick hug!!

Maslex ~ I love your turkey dinner. Sometimes you just have to do it!

Kimmar ~ Ok you seem to be the one to talk to. How do you get the quotes under your names? I am still just a Disney Vet. Those aren't tags already are they?

This weekend went way to fast and I can't believe I am here at work again. Saturday was spent in Kearney. Stephanie asked us up for brunch.......I brought Mimosas. The kids had an appointment at 1pm to get their taxes figures. Then Elizabeth and the boys stopped for the afternoon. Oh my I had a ball outside with them all day. It was beautiful, almost hot. After they left I took Stephanie out for her first real time away from Harper - and Lilly. We got pedicures and then went for coffee. She had a nice time but was so ready to get back to her babies. We ordered pizza for dinner.
Sunday Ethan had 2 basketball games (man I can't tell you how angry it makes me that they have these games on a Sunday morning ) We went to Church (yes we missed the basketball games) then to his wrestling matches. He did real good and placed 2nd. But we were there at 1:30 and finally left at 6:15. Needless to say my backside was sore from sitting on the bleachers. But a fun weekend for sure.

We are headed to Lincoln at noon today as I have a Dr. appointment in Omaha tomorrow morning. We are taking Matthew out to dinner tonight. I can't wait to see him, even if it will be a very short trip. I will see you all on Wednesday!!

WFDT ~ Texas Roadhouse and a yummy steak salad for me and steaks for the boys.

Make it a great day!!

Ellen - I know you asked Kimmar but I got here first and Kimmar sometimes doesn't check in for a couple of days. Those are self-tags we've bestowed on ourselves. ;) Head to the top right hand corner. You should be able to see your name EJ4Disney on a dark blue bar. You'll find your Inbox and Alerts next to your name. If you hover over your name, there will be a bunch of parameters that will drop down. You want to pick Personal Details. The alternative to hovering is to double click on your EJ4Disney name. It should take you to the same spot. Once you're in Personal Details, take a look at the field under your Avatar. There should be one that says Custom Title. That's the one that'll give you your tag. Type whatever you like in there and head to the bottom of the page and hit the Save Change button. That should do it.

I have read that some people haven't been able to see the Custom Title field. There is a thread on the Technical section of the boards...and if you mention it, one of the WebMasters will eventually come along and fix it for you.

Hope this helps!

Your weekend sounds delightful! Enjoy Lincoln and dinner with Matthew.

So on Sunday night we ended up with the Dungeness crab. It was very tasty!

Last night we had Prime Rib, mushrooms and green beans.

Ellen, I saw a bit of weight loss last week prior to had in out to Disney, but when I came back it was all gone. Since coming back my weight has been hovering. Albeit a couple pounds less than before this eating plan, but not much. We'll just have to see once I stay on it for a week of more with no Disney in between.

Wednesday night and I was supposed to go to dinner at mum's. Sadly for me, I got a call at 4 pm asking if they could schedule a meeting at 5.30 pm and if I would attend. I finally left work at 7 pm. Happily.....My mum is awesome! There was a doggy bag of food waiting for me when I got home.

Alison - I hope you work out a happy medium for you and the doctor where food is concerned.

Happy Wednesday everyone,

PIO ~ Thanks so much. I got it and now feel I fit in with the rest of you.
Aren't Mom's the best?!! I miss mine every day. Give your Momma a big ole hug for me. OK?

Alison ~ I just can't believe you haven't lost massive amounts of weight, eating like you are. I do have a question for you though - Do you have Celiac disease? Is that why you are going gluten free? I have friends that are and I have friends that aren't and still cut gluten out. I have read numerous studies that state that unless you have Celiac disease you shouldn't do this. I was just wondering. I totally understand about the sugar and preservatives.

Brandi ~ Have a great time and safe travels.

Mystery machine ~ Welcome!! I am a freek - I love vegetables - well all except peas. Your dinner sounds really good to me.

Why is it when you have a bit of extra cash and a list of things you want and need you can't find a thing? I need some new work clothes. I have had some things for over 10 years and even though they are still alright, I am tired of them and want something new. Do you think I could find a thing?.............nope nothing, nadda. I came home with a 6 pack of new sport socks. Woopee!! But let me shop on the day that I really am not looking and not have the extra cash I find everything.

We did have a nice time though. We were able to take Matthew and Katlin out Monday and Tuesday nights. We really enjoyed it.

I am heading to Kearney as soon as I get off of work, picking Lilly up and taking her to dance. I can't wait. Marty is now out of town, so I will be going up for the evenings and then leave in the morning for work. Poor Doug is baching it until Friday. :rolleyes1 I might even do this same routine next week. Stephanie is getting along really good, but I think she wants to make sure.

WFDT ~ actually I don't know, Stephanie is cooking. I will let you know tomorrow.

Make it a great day.

Alison - I hope you work out a happy medium for you and the doctor where food is concerned.

Unfortunately I don't think that will happen. A couple years ago she adopted this kind of diet and lost a ton of weight. We acually thought she looked way too skinny, but she went on about how great she felt and how wonderful it was. Since then she has been trying to get us to adopt a similar diet. She just doesn't really "like" food. She claims if I eat like this long enough I won't want to eat pizza, cheesebrgers, or other foods "I used to like". What she doesn't get is that I don't like the average piiza or cheeseburgers. They need to be extra good, not McDonald's or Pizza Hut, she has no idea of the kinds of foods we enjoy. Probably we will be finding a new Doctor.

Do you have Celiac disease? Is that why you are going gluten free?

No I don't have Celiac's. The doc just claims that the human body wasn't made to eat wheat or carbohydrates, hence the epidemic of diabetes. I have lost less than five pounds in two weeks. I expected a little more than that as my initial weight loss was pretty severe, however, my trip to Disney last week threw me back a bit. I think I may be gaining water weight right now as "that time" is likely approaching.

I have not been perfect. I do have a tablespoon or two of milk in my coffee every day. I still have my glass of wine which has sugar. Last night I ate a chicken breast stuffed with broccoli and cheese. Granted most of the cheese oozed out during cooking so I guess I was OK.

I started using myfitnesspal.Com again yesterday and was astonished at how little calories I an consuming. You'd think I would lose more weight.

WFD? Fran is taking me to Shabu Shabu for dinner tonight. We won't be going out for Valentine's day so I'm going to consider this my valentine dinner. I'll have to get the brown rice with my dinner and request all mung bean noodles and no udon noodles.

Brandi - It is cooler here today with temps in the low 70's. But it's back to 80's and 90's at the weekend. How much longer before you're on vacay??? YAY!!!

Mystery Machine - Welcome! I hope you don't just read and will post as well. :thumbsup2 How did the vegies turn out?

Ellen - I hope you find clothes that you like! You sound exactly like me when I go shopping. I always see things I like on the racks when I'm just 'looking'; but when I need to go buy stuff, I can't find a single thing! Glad you had a nice visit with Matthew.

Alison - It sure sounds like you need a new doctor. Enjoy Shabu Shabu. I will be so envious!

WFDT? It looks like my menu today is very similar to Mystery Machine. I've taken some chicken tenderloins out of the freezer. We have zucchini, peppers and tomatoes from the garden. I might make a vegetable dish of some sort and pan fry the tenderloins. I haven't decided what else to serve with it. I might be on a healthy diet and avoiding the carbs and sugars right now but that doesn't mean that DH and DS needs to be. I'm thinking....perhaps some couscous rather than rice. We'll see.

Alison - It sure sounds like you need a new doctor. Enjoy Shabu Shabu. I will be so envious!

Yeah the more I think about it, we need a new doctor. I'm not gonna live like this. I can't eat Shabu Shabu every night, but it sure was good and totally on the eating plan! :thumbsup2

I'm going to do the low carb, no sugar thing for a couple of months and see how I go.

Happy Thursday everyone,

Alison ~ I didn't think your were celiac, but I wasn't for sure. I read the book "Wheat Belly" and man it really makes sense. I try really really hard to not eat wheat and bread most of the time. I am not real fond of it anyway. my big problem is my Thyroid. I am on medication and they both make me gain weight. I have never ever had to worry about my weight until I went through menopause. It really messed with me.
I agree it might be time for a Dr. change.

PIO ~ Your garden dinner sounds amazing. Those are the kind of meals I love in the summer. I would love to pick your brain about meal choices with low carb and no sugar. I am just having a really hard time wrapping my head around all of this. Good grief even ketchup has wheat and sugar in it.

I am heading to Kearney again as soon as I get off of work. Actually Stephanie is getting along perfectly. She really doesn't "need" me , but I think she is glad to have an extra pair of hands. Lilly was ready for bed and most nights Harper is sleeping, but not last night she was wide awake. So I feel I might have helped a bit. All I know is, I am having a great time. Love it!!

WFDT ~ meatloaf, green beans and baked potatoes.

Make it a great day all.

Good grief it's Friday already!! Where do the days go?

Well today when I left Stephanie and the girls, I really said a prayer of thanksgiving that I am not boarding a plane or have a 10 hour drive and not see them for 6 months. I know that sounds so silly, but I am so very thankful that my kids are close enough that I get to see them whenever I want. I would not make a good long distance Nana.

But having said that I am really looking forward to being home with Doug tonight. I really haven't seen him since Tuesday. We have a date to go to the Basketball game tonight and he said he would buy me a hotdog. :rolleyes1:love2:Back off Ladies - the man is all mine. :dance3:

We don't have any plans for tomorrow - Do you? Happy Valentines Day!!

Make it a great Friday the 13th.

We don't have any plans for tomorrow - Do you? Happy Valentines Day!!

My plan is to make Rack of Lamb and a Potato Galette that I saw on the Chew earlier this week. And Darcy is going to come over and work.

Ellen - Low carb and no sugar ends up being more proteins and tons more vegies for me. I do read the labels a lot and look for things that have less than 6 g of sugar/100 g. Those things are very hard to find on supermarket shelves! But really - Brandi is much more au fait about this kind of eating than me. I don't plan on doing this forever; Brandi's incorporated it into her lifestyle.

It's Valentine's Day here. And the start of the Cricket World Cup. Lucky for me, Australia and New Zealand are host countries. Opening match is England vs Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. And I have tickets. Just a nice intimate game between two countries and 90,000 people. Heading out soon.

WFDT? It will be fast food at the 'G. 14 days into this eating plan and today is going to be the first day that I'm probably going to indulge in fatty carbs.

PIO - I hope you enjoyed your day at the game and your off program treats!

I have made a major decision to discontinue the dairy free part of my diet. After much discussion it seems that this decision to to go cold turkey on so many things has put me in a depression that Fran can't reconcile. It has made her too sad former to be so upset, so I have decided to add dairy back into my diet as that us the most devastating thing to lose. My demeanor has much improved since making that decision. We'll see how the weight loss goes.

Alison - Well done on coming to the realisation that you need to keep dairy in your diet. Glad you're feeling better.

Sunday night. It was a very relaxing day today. I did absolutely nothing!

WFDT? We had falafel for dinner. Too hot to cook!
