The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

We went out for dinner last night. DH and I were celebrating another wedding anniversary so we headed to the local Italian. He had a salad and DS and I ended up with lasagna.

It's another beautiful blue sky Sunday here. I'm going to make it a lazy day.

I can honestly say (as long as you dont hate me for it) I have had too much too much to drink tonight.

I have drank too much of the moonshine that we brought bank from Tennessee. We leave for Europe in 1 week, 7 days.

I have nothing planned for the later part of the week. My best friend is turning 50 while we are in Zurich.

I have to come up with something the husband is no use....

Other wise I am drunk and need to go bed. I love you ladies, and I miss you all, I seem to be away too much and I miss you all.

We still love you Brandi! I've had a little of that this week, but wine instead of moonshine.

....Alison, more updates on the TR....:thumbsup2

I saw Kiim!

Ellen-it sounds like you're getting in some great family time!

PIO - the burger sounds great, but you can only blame me if it's a lamburger!

We have been crazy trying to get away! All last weekend was go go go! I spent Monday at the park with a DIS friend and then came home to another night of crazy packing. I did get almost three hours sleep though!

We arrived in Seattle exhausted and hungry. After a great meal (maybe I'll post pictures here), we crashed all afternoon. I picked up liquid provisions, both adult suitable for all ages, and finally got Fran out of bed. We hit Wal-Mart for all the stuff we couldn't bring or forgot, a recurring theme. Red lobster for dinner, meh.

Wednesday was a great day. We visited the Car museum and then went out for a nice dinner. My first oysters of the trip and other shellfish.

On thanksgiving we drove about an hour from Tacoma up to Everett to relocate for the rest of the trip. I didn't have to do a thing for the dinner and I found it rather irritating. I made Caprese skewers in our hotel room before we checked out. Try finding decent tomatoes in November in the Pacific northwest! Dinner was fine, just different.

For lunch Friday I met a DISer and her family. We ate at a great seafood restaurant. Last night was all finger foods. My Aunt and her family came over. We figured out I had not seen her since their wedding, which was when I was in High School.

It snowed last night. Totally unexpected! We started the Prime Rib at my sister's and went back to Wal-Mart for snow Boots. I've been sitting around catching up on the DIS since we got back from shopping.

Brandi - I hope you make it on the Dis a bit more often!

Alison - Sounds like you're having an interesting family Thanksgiving. Hang in there. You'll be home soon. I'm only teasing about the lamb burger; but I like the combination of elements in that Uva Bar burger. I'm pretty close to getting all the elements down pat.

Kim - Nice TR updates! But I'm still waiting for more food porn. ;)

Ellen - Hope you had a great Thanksgiving as well.

WFDT? Butternut squash, red pepper, tomato sauce with potato gnocchi, served with Italian semolina bread....

DavidJones1984 - Welcome to the thread!

Brandi - I think you're heading to vacay soon. If I don't catch you, have a great trip!

Kimmar - How do you cook that butternut squash, pepper and tomato sauce?

Happy December 1 - only 24 days till Christmas :woohoo:

I hope you all had a very blessed Thanksgiving. There were 24 of us for dinner on Thursday. The weather was beautiful so the kiddos were able to play outside and the adults took a nice long walk. Dinner was delicious and there were no major mishaps.

We were able to get all of the outside Christmas decorations up and out on Saturday. We did it in our shirtsleeves and actually was hot at times. We also got the tree up and the house cleaned and decorated. It all looks so pretty. I am so glad that it is done, as yesterday it was 19 for a high and the wind chill was close to 0. Man oh man what the difference a day makes.

WFDT ~ Turkey and Noodles over Mashed potatoes, and apple crisp with ice cream.

Make it a great day!!

Ellen - Sounds like a great Thanksgiving.

Dinner tonight was baked sweet potato with the trimmings. I'm starting to count down to Christmas. I'll be taking 2 weeks off work. The companies are all starting to 'encourage' all staff to take time off. Who am I to argue?

Morning all.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am very thankful for the many blessing in my life.

We are off on vacation soon... Friday.

I am trying to get everything wrapped up in my different projects (6, and 4 mobile apps).

I feel like I am almost at my breaking point but vacation is just around the corner and so are the holidays.

Dinner last night was pizza and salad, tonight is the last of my turnips, broccoli and cauliflower

David gets a chicken breast with his.

Ellen - glad you got your decorations up. Im not sure we will be so lucky.

PIO - I hope you can hang in there. Two weeks off here would be monumental. My BIL made it a point to mention that he works 10-12 hours a day 7 days a week.

Brandi - I think about you and your trip. Will they be able to accommodate your diet?

Alison, they should be able to but I was thinking that I might just go with the flow and eat what ever I want, and then come back and be strict again to take off what ever I have put on... :rolleyes1 The whole thing is I eat veggies and fruit, I should be able to do that anywhere.

Brandi - Sounds like you have the right dining plan for your holiday.

Alison - Hope you're home now.

Ellen - Do you have more decorations to go up?

Kimmar -

Wednesday night and all's well here.

I'm looking forward to this weekend and doing some manual labour. I started refreshing our outdoor furniture. We have a wooden furniture....a 3-seater bench, a small side table and the table and 4 chairs. They all look a little worn. So, I've bought some wood clean and oil stain. We started on the 3-seater bench last weekend. It's looking great after the cleaning and staining. I'm hoping to wash the side table and the table and 4 chairs this weekend and get started on the staining. If I get real enthusiastic about it, I might just wood clean our outdoor decking area and restain/oil it as well.

Hope everyone is well.

Morning everyone.

Everything at work is in crisis mode right now...
So this is early in my day before I get busy.

2 days till I leave...

I am more than ready to go I just have to pick up the parents gifts while we are gone, everyone else is done and shipped...

Cards will go out after I leave, the house sitter is mailing them for me.

Of course I have not packed yet.. but I have started the list

Dinner tonight is sweet potatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, and garden salad

OK something is really crazy around here. I posted yesterday and my post is not here. I had nice comments to all of you, so I guess I will try again today. Sorry friends for leaving you!! :(

Brandi ~ I have always found that when I go overseas that the fresh fruit and good vegetables are always really hard to find. I hope you are surprised but don't plan on it.
If I don't see you before you leave have a great trip and Merry Christmas.

Alison ~ Have you gotten a lot of rain? I see the weather reports and they are sure scary.

PIO ~ Your outside work sounds amazing. Isn't is great to do something like this and stand back and see the difference? We cleaned, stained and sealed our deck this summer and wow, didn't realize how bad it looked until it was done. :lmao:
Enjoy your vacation!!

Busy busy time here at the Church. Our big UMW Country Store is this Friday. One of my favorite days in the Church. The ladies will start scurring today to get the tables set, food ordered and tomorrow the candy and bazaar items will start arriving. I love it - so much fun. Doug (the candy maker) made 2 pans of his "very popular" fudge and 3 batches of peanut brittle. He is a bit famous for his candy. People will be asking for it first thing.

WFDT ~ Swiss steak, potatoes with gravy and coleslaw.

Make it a great day all!!

Good morning everyone,

I know you are all busy!!

This morning as soon as I get off of the computer I am going to go out and decorate that last tree in the Church. It is right out of my office door and stands about 20'. It is so beautiful. When Doug set it up on Monday we realized the top was broken so Doug fixed it yesterday and then we realized that the lights on top and on the bottom branches were out. So last night we went and got new lights so today I and a few ladies will get it all ready for our Country Store tomorrow.

Today is Liam's 3rd birthday. Wow, how did that happen? I can't believe he is 3 already. What a joy he has brought to our family. Elizabeth and Jay are having a birthday party tonight. We are going for dinner and cake. She is making it and it looks like a dig site. He loves anything with tractors and diggers. They have some friends that are bringing over a tractor and will park it outside on the street. He will be so excited. I will put pictures up on FB.

WFDT ~ Homemade macaroni and cheese, pulled BBQ chicken sandwiches and birthday cake.

Make it a great day all!

Happy Birthday Liam...

We are out of here tomorrow. I will talk to you all in about 2.5 weeks! Right before Christmas.

Enjoy and hugs to everyone.
