The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

Brandi - Mum made an Indian Egg Curry with okra, stir fry beef with bittergourd, mushrooms with greens with oyster/soy sauce and a broth soup. We had it with basmati rice. Her food is always delicious!

Ellen - I just go cold turkey. I'm not having any pasta or bread. I did have a little rice last night but normally I cut out the rice and noodles as well. With the sugar, it's just a matter of not having any added sugar. I tend to eat fruit and vegies so there is natural sugar in my diet. I don't have soda or dessert.

Kimmar - Enjoy the Yachtsman. I'm totally envious.

I'm still not in the kitchen routine yet. So, we're doing another take-away for dinner tonight. We're hitting the local hamburger joint for dinner.
Have a great day all.

Yummy That sounds amazing, I want to come Mum's house for dinner.

Hey ladies! I'm not sure we'll be having "dinner" tonight. On our first flight we had some spinach tortellini for I guess lunch. We both just had some brisket in a tortilla at the Centurion Lounge at the DFW airport. I called mine a burrito since mine had beans. She called hers a taco since she added lettuce and no beans. We have another flight at 8PM to our final destination. Maybe they'll serve us food on that.

I also have a box of Velveeta shells and cheese in my suitcase. I forgot the Keilbasa! I also have a complimentary chair massage in 10 minutes! Love this lounge!

that lounge sounds amazing! I am truly jealous

Happy Fall!!

PIO ~ Your dinner sounds amazing as usual. Aren't Mom's the best?! To this day I miss my Momma's fried chicken. I try to make it just like her and it never ever tastes even close. Enjoy!!

Alison ~ Sounds wonderful. You are probably still sound asleep but have a great day.

Kimmar ~ I am so glad you checked in - I was worried about you! Silly me, I forgot you were in Disney. Have a magical day!

Brandi ~ Doug always makes me buy Halloween candy that he/we like, as if there is any left over he gets it. :rotfl2: No sense buying it if you won't even eat it. :rotfl:

Trunk or Treat was a huge success last night. It really helped that the weather was perfect, no wind and high 60's. I got my trunk decorated and they swarmed in. I had a bag of 95 pieces of candy and had to run into the church and get some of the candy I have in my office. One person kept track and they have 157. So I call that a success. We had a nice dinner and fellowship after so a great night. I had a ball looking at all of the outfits. There were only 2 Elsa's which really surprised me and one Olaf.

WFDT ~ Beef stroganoff (thanks Kat), roasted beets (I don't know why but I ALWAYS have beets when I have stroganoff), lettuce salad and bread and jelly.

Make it a great day!

157 - that is an awesome turn out! How many trunks?

It was actually quite a nice lounge from thise I have been to over the years. Brisket and tortillas seem to be the theme they had those in june as well. There were also vegan choices.

I was already awake for at least an hour when you posted this but that's Ok! We rested today. I worked on the TR and took a nap. Fran isnt hungry but she will indulge ne in some dinner after a friend from the host band comes and picks up my instrument and a suitcase.

I think we're going to go to Carraba's. Its the closest place.

I was too full for dinner tonight. So, it was just some strawberries and grapefruit.

Happy Halloween!! Boo!

Brandi ~ There were probably only 20 trunks, but we did advertise and people know that we always do this, so we had kids from all over town, plus our own church kiddos.

Alison ~ Glad you got there all safe and sound. Now all you have to do is relax and have fun.

PIO ~ Mom's cooking is always the best. YUM!!

I am so glad we did Trunk or Treat on Wednesday as the evening was perfect. Plus I got to have fun with the boys. Tonight it is suppose to be really cold and windy. Not much fun for the kiddos. Lilly is going as Ariel and her costume is darling. (I will try to post a picture to FB) but not so cute with a coat on.

We are heading to Lincoln at noon today as we play Perdue tomorrow. "GO BIG RED" It is suppose to be really cold and I don't do cold real well. I bought some long underwear, toe warmers, hand warmers and I will bring my heavy blanket. If I get to cold we will leave and go to the bar to watch it. All in all it will be a great time. Stephanie and Marty have already sold their tickets - it's just too cold for Lilly.

WFDT ~ Something down at the Rail Yard in the Hay Market.

Make it a great day.

Alison, even your post sounds tired! Hope you are fully rested and ready to get this vacation in full swing!

Have a great time tonight watching the kids...

don't eat too much candy!

Tomorrow hope you have a good game and enjoy, and try not to get too cold.
I am never happy when I am cold.

We will be watching our games from the comfort of our living room!

I've got two simple meals that my family all loved this week..

package of elbows
jar of pasta sauce
1lb of ground beef
Brown the beef, pour the sauce over and simmer while the elbows are cooking.. Once they are done drain then pour the sauce/beef over, mix and let sit covered for 5-10 minutes.

==============================

package of elbows
jar of light alfredo
about 1/2cup milk
package of fully cooked, sliced chicken breast (the bags in the cool section of the grocery)
about 3cups of steamed broccoli

Warm up chicken in pan.
cook elbows and drain
pour alfredo sauce, broccoli and chicken onto elbows
add milk
stir and let sit cover 5-10 minutes

Good Morning everyone...

ericstac - thanks for the post. Do you cook often? Does anyone have special dietary needs? We have all kinds here, vegan, pesc-vegetarian, and gluten free.

We survived Halloween, hope everyone else did too.

I drank some shine while David passed out candy, one of the families that came by brought jello shots to everyone.

Happy Halloween, Brandi. I made a cardinal mistake this Halloween.

I noticed my neighbour 2 doors down had set up a table and chairs in her front garden, so I wandered over and invited myself to sit down. She has kids in that Candy Age and they, and another neighbour's brood, were heading out to collect candy. The parents had decided to have drinks and nibblies in the front garden so they could hand out candy as well. After inviting myself to join in, I came home to grab some strawberries, a bottle of bubbly and then put my candy stash out on the front porch for the kids to come and collect.

It didn't take me long to figure out that the Trick and Treaters were helping themselves. I don't think I'll make that mistake next year.

The neighbours and I have decided that drinks and nibblies might become a yearly tradition (at least until her kids get over the candy age). Next year, I'll bring my stash with me to her garden.

There were 6of us neighbors out talking and we all had out bowls with us. It just makes it easier that way.

You know I had to tell the kids to take more than one piece. they were all picking just one piece at a time.

I need to get round to unpacking my camera. I have easy peasy weekend meals on it.

Last night, I made a simple minestrone soup for dinner. Exactly what my stomach needed. Something light and simple to digest.

Thanks, yes I cook daily, I have a strong passion for food which is good and sometimes bad (like this Halloween weekend binge) lol.. I'm really big into flex dieting or IIFYM style eating.

Besides my special macro-nutrient requirements I'm lucky to say there are no dietary needs in my household.

This past weekend was Halloween plus our 14th anniversary weekend (Nov 4th) so we ate out a lot, and I lived life on candy which resulted in a 14lb weight gain :confused3:confused3 :rotfl: But back in the gym now and tracking my intake so all the bloat and blah should leave my body soon :)

I am sure you know this already but water water and more water...

Sugar contributes to bloating!

Welcome again and share all your food, even the really good stuff that is bad for you here, not just stuff you cook, we even post food porn here if you got any?

Last night's dinner was Roasted Broccoli, Mashed Potatoes, and cucumbers, and bell peppers. David had a Oktoberfest Bratwurst, that he said was amazing.
