The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

Alison ~ Yes my friend! I saw the picture that Jenny posted. You all looked like you were having a great time. And yes, you look great!!

Sometimes I have a disconnect. When people don't "like" or comment on the pictures, I don't realize that they have seen them. We did have a great time.

Well I had my re-evaluation for my Hip on Friday and the Dr was not happy with the progress.
She has ordered an MRI with a T3 magnet. This is the strongest magnet for the MRI and of course not every place has it, so I have to go out of my area to get it. She suspects that I might have a tear in my hip joint. Not what I wanted to hear.

That's not good. I sure hope that you don't have a tear in the your hip joint.

David took me out to eat Indian Thursday night, and Friday I ate watermelon for dinner. Just was not hungry.
Saturday night I made pizza and a salad.

Indian sounds really good. I need to make us some Indian sometime soon. I know what you mean when you're just not hungry.

Tonight will be eggplant parm, for me and veal parm for David.

That sounds good!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Pretty much just sitting around doing chores and posting on the DIS.

So lets see.... :scratchin

The last time I posted here was Tuesday when we went out to the park and had Fried Chicken and Cobb Salad.
Wednesday night, I may not have had dinner. We had a large late lunch at The Melt, so I think we didn't have a formal dinner.
Thursday night we had Fajitas
Friday night those of you on FB possibly saw the frozen seafood meal I made, not bad.
Last night we had Meatloaf, GF Cornbread and zucchini boats

Tonight we are having Frito Pie (which is what we were supposed to have on Friday, but I didn't feel like it).

Have a great next week! I know I will!

Brandi - I hope you get good news with the MRI.

Alison - Seems like you are having really decent meals!

Ellen - Are you able to work a 4-day week?

It's Monday here and despite me cutting back my work hours to 'normal', it just seems as busy as ever. But at least, I'm busy with outside-of-work-stuff, right?
Today has been so busy that we're doing take-out burgers for dinner. Think Uva Bar style burgers and that's where we're going to pick up burgers from.
I've been slowly cutting back my portion sizes down lately. I'm definitely reining in the eating!

PIO - I hope your off-work schedule mellows out. I miss you around here!

I'm not sure I mentioned it, but on July 4, I had seven days at or under my goal weight, so I made a gingerbread cake, ate bacon wrapped mozzarella, a burger and I continued the binge through last Wednesday. Of course my weight went up and I'm hoping by Thursday morning when I take off for Disney I'm back on track because I probably won't be as good as I should for those two days.

Tonight we're having sausage and peppers, I'll have mine over a GF pasta while Fran gets regular rigatoni.

Happy Monday all,

Alison ~ Your meals sound great. And yes, I did see and I believe commented on your seafood treat. It looked really good to me.
When are you leaving for Disney? You are so lucky?

PIO ~ You are to busy! I could probably do a 4 day a week in the summer but it wouldn't be feasible in the winter when all the activities are on and the Church is so busy.

Brandi ~ NO!!! I hope and pray it isn't a hip tear. Will they do a hip replacement then? I do know that if that is the route you go you will feel better faster. Prayers are with you!

We had so much fun with the girls over the weekend. But darn it is hot hot hot. So much so that we didn't venture out except for ice cream on Saturday and Church on Sunday. Elizabeth and the boys and me and the girls had planned on going swimming and to be very truthful with you it was just too hot. The heat index was 117 yesterday and a bit cooler today at 105. Needless to say I am staying inside.

Thanks for the prayers for Tom. He quietly passed on Saturday morning. Heaven surly received a wonderful man. I know he up there telling anyone that will listen his wonderful stories. His funeral will be Wednesday. Thanks!

WFDT ~ Chicken salad wraps with chips.

Make it a great day

Alison - your meals sound good and hearty, but that cake caught my attention. I keep telling myself, "No, you cannot eat cake", cake and cookies are my weakness. :)

PIO - I so wish I could cut back to four days a week. But David and I ran our numbers this weekend, and it looks like everything will be paid for in 4 years, so I can retire in 4 years! Whoop!!!

Ellen - Sorry to hear Tom passed, I know it is sad, but as you said heaven got a good man. We have been having unusually mild temperatures, it has been high 80's with 50% humidity, that is unheard of for here, hope you get a break soon on those high temps.

The Dr, said that it would be tear fix, like a knee or a shoulder if it is there. She keep saying the word impingement. Not a fun word to associate with pain.

Tomorrow afternoon is my scheduled MRI.

Last night we had pizza again, the crust always makes enough for two so we finished that off last night

Checking in.

Work is just crazy right now. I'm sadly finding that it creeps into my Monday's and Thursdays....and I'm torn between wanting to maintain my lifestyle and worrying about not being at work. I miss being around here and having those two days to myself.

It's been a pretty standard week where food is concerned.
Tuesday - baked potatoes
Wednesday - dinner at mum's
Thursday - homemade burgers

At least it's friday tomorrow and then the weekend.

Good morning all,

Sorry I wasn't here for the last couple of days. We served over 300 yesterday at Tom's Funeral. One of the largest funerals we have had. A real testimony to what a wonderful Man he was. I started in the Kitchen at 8:30 and was still here when Doug got off of work. He stopped and helped my lock up. Needless to say I was tired last night and slept like a baby.

Brandi ~ Any word on the MRI? I thought of you all day yesterday.

PIO ~ Bless your heart! I sure hope work settles down for you. I totally understand the feeling.

Alison ~ Hello my friend.

I plan on going to the Y after work. I haven't been in almost 2 weeks. Tonight starts our County Fair and we are going to eat at the 4H Café and then go with the Grands to the Midway and let them ride some rides. I promise you I WILL have a big ole bag of pink and blue cotton candy. Hence the trip to the Y. :)

Make it a great day!

PIO - I so understand your work/personal life. I find myself more and more working into my at home time. And I need to stop it. :)

Good luck in finding that balance

The MRI was yesterday afternoon, and they taped my legs in a funky position so it would show up better, and it hurt so bad, the MRI took 40 minutes. :(

I was not a happy camper

Hopefully I will hear something soon, but not sure when they will Read it

Well howdy folks, from good Ole Main Street! I'm sitting here waiting to meet up with some friends while Fran is in search of a 60th anniversary beer stein. Sadly I think the only one is the one she already got and I posted in my TR.

We're heading to lunch now.

sorry to hear about how uncomfortable the MRI was, Brandi. I hope you get some good from it and they can fix what ever is wrong!

We just checked into the hotel. Fran is taking a nap for an hour before we head out to dinner. I'm taking the time to relax with a glass of wine and check on the computer.

I am glad to hear that you both are relaxing and I too hope for the best with this MRI mess.

Good morning friends,

Brandi ~ Oh sweetie, I am so sorry it hurt so bad. I hope, beyond hope, that they are able to see what the problem is and that it's an easy fix. You have been hurting for way to long.

Alison ~ I LOVED (liked and commented) your picture of your view. The one of you and Fran was great. Fran is looking like she is feeling better. And lady you look great. Every picture I see of you, you look better and better. You really much be doing something right! Enjoy the rest of your time at DL!!

Thank God it is Friday. What a week!
Doug and Matthew are golfing in a tournament on Saturday. And I am staying home and doing wash, and going through a few cupboards. We have our large Church Garage Sale next Saturday and I know there are things that need to go.
Elizabeth has Lilly for the weekend for a play date with Liam. Liam kept bugging his Mom that he really needed to see "his Lilly". She called this morning and at 8:30 am they were in their swimsuits with water guns. Oh you should have heard the squeals and laughter. Oh to be 3 again!!

WFDT ~ BLTA (bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado) sandwiches, pasta salad and peach tea

Make it a great day and a fabulous weekend!

I am going to post here because I need to tell someone but I am not posting on Facebook until I know more.

The Dr called me today about the MRI.
There is no tare which I am very grateful for.

There is inflammation in the muscle and damage to it around my hip.
They also found a mass on my ovary, so I have to have an ultra sound.
They have also ordered a Dye test for my hip, they will inject dye into my hip and run a second round of tests.

Brandi! Good news about not having a tear.

But....A mass? Oh no. I hope everything goes well for you.

Ellen - That's a big funeral. It must have been hard work.

Alison - Have fun. You deserve it.

So....be careful what you wish for, right?

Lately, the company I work for has been going through organisational changes. A lot of the office changes don't really impact me that much, but the new management have been making changes that do impact workers like myself. Slowly but surely, some of the intangible perks and informal culture has changed....and not necessarily for the better, in my opinion.
The client site I'm currently at....well....I have a very good relationship with a number of people in this organisation and I've lost track of the number of job offers they have offered me in the past. I've previously turned them down because of the intangible benefits and culture of my parent organisation has been worth a bit to me.

However, with the changes......this week, I've had 2 job offers from different parts of the business. Both jobs are effectively doing what I currently do.
I think this time, I'm ready for a workplace change.

Decisions, decisions.

Terrific Tuesday to you all!

Oh.My.Goodness remind me next year when it is Garage Sale time to NOT do it. I always remember why I am so NOT a garage sale girl. But this year all of our proceeds are going to a local Camp, so I am pretty excited about that. And I really shouldn't complain as I have a great group of people helping me. But what a dirty job!!

Brandi ~ Oh sweetie!! My thoughts and prayers are with you as you play this damn waiting game. I am glad there is no tear, but I know it still hurts and you need answers. As far as the mass - don't jump to conclusions just yet. When are they going to do the tests. Please let me know as I would like to start my prayer chain. We are a powerful group of prayer warriors. In the mean time please know I am holding you very close my friend.

PIO ~ Isn't it funny when we know it is time. That is truly how I got this job. Wasn't looking at all but the opportunity just fell in my lap. Bless you as you make some hard decisions.

Alison ~ Are you home yet? I sure hope - but know - you had a great time!!

My house looks like a tornado came through. I am going through closets and I have gotten rid of 3 bags of clothes (Goodwill) and 5 boxes to our Garage sale and the dumpster is full of throw away things. But as I am taking it out I am going through it all so it is like a bomb went off. But it sure feels good to get in a dig the old stuff out. We have been out to the farm for almost 24 years and it is amazing how you accumulate things. It was time to purge!!

WFDT ~ Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing (was in the freezer) and a cherry salad.

Make it a great day all!!
