The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

 Nice to see activity on this thread!

Ellen - Seems like changing things up is blowing your way and mine right now. Have you tidied up your house yet? I hope the Garage Sale went well.

Brandi - Thinking of you.

Alison - Hope you're well.

Wednesday night and it was dinner at mum's. Nothing like mum's cooking.

We're in for a busy fortnight. We will be hosting a Japanese exchange student from Sunday for 2 weeks. Here's to sign language and lots of laughs!

Keep well all.

PIO ~ I am still in a mess, but at least now it is an organized mess. The Garage sale is this Saturday. We are up to our elbows with marking it all right now. I will be glad when it is over.
You are right - nothing better than Mom's cooking. You are SO lucky!!

Brandi ~ Any word on the MRI yet? Prayers are surrounding you sweetie!

Hi to everyone else!

We are in a cold front right now and it looks like it will bust out and rain any minute. We could really use a good rain about now. The pivots have been running full blast, non stop for weeks now. The temperature is to only get to the mid 80's. Feels pretty good!

WFDT ~ Lamb chops, rosemary new potatoes and sweet corn.

Make it a great day!!

 Have a great Garage sale. And I hope you get that rain!

Thursday morning here. I have a massage and chiro appointment to head to soon. I so need the adjustment.
I have no idea what to do for dinner tonight. Lamb chops sounds real good right now Ellen. If only my DH would eat meat! LOL.

Terrific Tuesday to you all!

Oh.My.Goodness remind me next year when it is Garage Sale time to NOT do it. I always remember why I am so NOT a garage sale girl. But this year all of our proceeds are going to a local Camp, so I am pretty excited about that. And I really shouldn't complain as I have a great group of people helping me. But what a dirty job!!

Brandi ~ Oh sweetie!! My thoughts and prayers are with you as you play this damn waiting game. I am glad there is no tear, but I know it still hurts and you need answers. As far as the mass - don't jump to conclusions just yet. When are they going to do the tests. Please let me know as I would like to start my prayer chain. We are a powerful group of prayer warriors. In the mean time please know I am holding you very close my friend.

PIO ~ Isn't it funny when we know it is time. That is truly how I got this job. Wasn't looking at all but the opportunity just fell in my lap. Bless you as you make some hard decisions.

Alison ~ Are you home yet? I sure hope - but know - you had a great time!!

My house looks like a tornado came through. I am going through closets and I have gotten rid of 3 bags of clothes (Goodwill) and 5 boxes to our Garage sale and the dumpster is full of throw away things. But as I am taking it out I am going through it all so it is like a bomb went off. But it sure feels good to get in a dig the old stuff out. We have been out to the farm for almost 24 years and it is amazing how you accumulate things. It was time to purge!!

WFDT ~ Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing (was in the freezer) and a cherry salad.

Make it a great day all!!

Ellen,

So I have an appt with the Dr on the 30th. I am not sure what all they are doing then, but it will not include the dye test, they want to do a sonogram first. So the 30th at 5pm is my next exciting Dr appt. Thank you for thinking about me. :)

Ellen, PIO, Alison - thank you so much for being here and thinking of me and providing an outlet for me. I can't talk about any of this anywhere else, b/c too many family members, and I just don't want to upset any of them.

We have all shared so much here and been a part of each others lives, I love it! You are all dear to me and I truly appreciate it.

I have had a few bad days, thinking the worst and most of the days have been good thinking that it is all gonna be alright.

The hardest part is looking at David and is always staring at me like he is going to lose me. It is breaking my heart.

It is like he is bracing himself for the worst. This waiting game is the hardest part.

-Brandi

T -2 days till this blasted Garage sale is in the books.

Brandi ~ Prayers will continue for you. I so wish I was closer so I could give you a hug. This will have to do - but please know it is surrounding you with prayers and strength. {{hugs}}
Now you listen to me real good - David is NOT going to lose you. Things will be ok!! You can't think the worst when you don't even know anything yet. He has been your rock and he will continue to be so. Keep your head up and think the best!!

PIO ~ Are you feeling like a new woman after your adjustment and massage? Oh how I love it!!

I have had to add 6 more tables to the Garage Sale. This is the largest one yet!! And when I got to work this morning there were more boxes outside the door that someone dropped off. I have 2 ladies coming in to help organize today and another retired man is going to help us mark it all tomorrow. I just can't believe the amount of stuff!!

I am taking the ladies that have helped me all week to dinner tonight. Doug is, of course, golfing. I will let them pick where we go, so I have no idea what I will have. It depends on where we go.

Make it a great day!

Happy Monday!

Brandi - Thinking of you.

Ellen - That's a lot of stuff for the garage sale. Hope it went well.

Alison - Hope life is good with you.

We have a Japanese exchange student staying with us for the next 2 weeks. Looks like I'm back in the kitchen. Last night, I made a big pot of chicken stock and we had ramen noodles, chicken pieces, mushroom and green vegetables. The soup was soooo good.
Our exchange student said she likes pasta. So WFDT? I've just finished making a pot of bolognaise sauce. Here's hoping I manage to find time to get back cooking.

OK, I haven't been around here much. The Disneyland 60th sort of kicked both mine and Fran's butt's. She slept a good three days after that. I had some recovery time, but had stuff to do so while I didn't sleep all day like she did, I still had chores to accomplish. Then I went back out and had a day with friends which took at least a day's recovery. Then since Fran was recovered, she made us go over to the old house and pack up stuff yesterday so we both we recovering today.

I had a ham that needed to be sliced, plus I had bought 10 lbs of chicken thighs that needed to be packed up in the freezer. Plus I had thawed our roast beef from Christmas so that I could make Beef Stroganoff for dinner, but the rest that wasn't used in stroganoff was sliced into sandwich servings for the two of us (even though I'm not eating sandwiches), I might make an excpetion for a French Dip.

Happy Monday all!

MAN oh Man am I glad that Garage Sale is finished. I have spent all morning boxing up what was left. The Lady who hauls it to Goodwill for me just left. We didn't really have that much left. We filled a bed of a pickup up but that was it. IT.IS.GONE!!! We had a really good sale and we were able to give $876.00 to the fund raising committee for Camp Comeca. This is a wonderful camp that is just 20 miles from us and is starting a Financial Campaign so I was honored to be able to help.

I have my Monday job to do and haven't even started yet. So I will have to reply to all of you tomorrow. But I wanted to at least check in.

Big {{HUGS}} to all of you!!

WFDT ~ Grilled hot dogs, with grilled vegetables and chips.

Make it a great day!!

OK, so I see I checked in here recently so you know what is going on food wise....

Jenny's daughter and friends will be moving in on Thursday, well signing the papers Thursday and moving Friday, and the Contractors are just finishing up today and tomorrow. Two weeks late which I always expect, but was hoping that they wouldn't do it on this one. Or would have been a little ahead of schedule. We cleaned the kitchen cabinets today. I sized the mini blinds in the bathroom, and even though I cleaned some cabinets in the kitchen, Darcy didn't seem to think I did a good enough job because she cleaned them again.

I had planned that we would go out to dinner tonight, but I forgot that we have tickets for Phantom of the Opera on Wednesday, so instead of going out tonight, we will go out Wednesday and I cooked us Balsamic chicken and sautéed spinach which was supposed to be Wednesday's dinner.

Tomorrow we get dinner on the way to band, Wednesday we get dinner on our way to Phantom, and Thursday is dinner with Jenny and her family before we get her daughter signed in to the apartment.

Busy week for you two.

I am going to a baseball game tomorrow night, so should be fun, i will eat something at the park, Veggie Burger and french fries most likely!

Last night was taco salad. Tonight is pork and cabbage for David. I have no idea what i am having yet?

It's Wednesday night in Oz....which means dinner at mum's.

Ellen - the massage and adjustment was exactly what I needed. I was so tense that both the masseur and I agreed that a follow-up massage was needed. And that would be tomorrow!
YAY for raising the money with the Garage Sale. But...clue me in. Is that a good amount to raise by US standards? :confused3

Brandi - Keeping you in my thoughts!

Alison - Sounds like you've been busy.

Officially, I don't go back to work till the 11th August. I put in so much overtime that all of this 'leave' is time off in lieu! I'm just going to put my feet up and vegetate!

Good morning my dear friends,

Brandi ~ Any news yet? I sure have been thinking about you. Have fun at the game tonight. And you are right try not to think the worst. It will be fine - I just feel it!!

Alison ~ That is wonderful news about Jenny's daughter renting from you. That is a win-win situation for both of you.
I am so jealous of you being able to see the plays you do. I sure hope you have fun, you both have been so busy. How is Fran feeling? Did she get started on a new medicine that is helping?

PIO ~ Yes, that is a great amount for our Garage sale, especially when everything is marked at $1.00 and below. There were a few things priced more but the majority is less than a dollar. The town looks forward to our sale all year as we really have good prices. We just want to get rid of it and all the money always goes to Missions. We hauled it all away on Monday and got it all in the back of 1 pickup. So all in all it was a huge success.
I am so glad the adjustment and massage did the trick.

It just makes me laugh about all of this hot weather. We were in an extreme weather pattern last week - but I am SURE you never heard a word about us. Heat index close to 110+ - we managed - It's SUMMER for goodness sakes. The news shows this morning were all about the extreme heat in the East. Sorry, I know some of you lurkers probably live in the East, but really, it seems like that is all we are hearing, about how HORRIBLE it is. Just makes me laugh!!

I am so excited - Doug was just okayed for vacation next week. We are just staying home and working on the house. I can't wait. I am sure we will do a few fun things in there during the week but just the thought of not having to go to work will be nice. I love my job, you all know I do, but it will be nice to be gone from here. School starts back up on August 12 and shortly after that all of the activities will start, so now is a good time to be gone. I can't wait!!!

WFDT ~ BBQ grilled chicken, new potatoes foil packets with cucumber and tomato salad. I love summer!!

Make it a great day!!

Ellen - Your items are marked at $1 and below? WOW! That IS a very impressive total.

Thursday morning and the sun is shining. DS isn't feeling well...he's had the case of the sniffles since early this week. He's decided he needs a day in bed. We have a doctor's appointment later in the day.
Our Japanese exchange student seems to be doing okay here. She's a little bit more reserved than last year's model; but her English is so much better.
WFDT? We did check.....seems like we're doing Sushi for dinner tonight. I gave our guest the choice between Sushi or Burgers. She chose Sushi!

Good morning my friends,

PIO ~ I sure hope DH starts feeling better. There is something going around here. Everyone is sick. Pastor Dyton sneezed so much yesterday that I finally told him, "I have blessed you enough to. You are now on your own." So far I haven't gotten it, but pretty much everyone I know has the sniffles and sore throat.
Good call on the Sushi - man I love it. Don't get it very often, but when it's available I ALWAYS order it.
Glad to hear the Exchange student it fun. I think that could be really hard if there was a conflict.

Brandi ~ I loved seeing you and David at the game. Did it ever quit raining? Ethan would have loved to be there as he LOVES the Orioles.

Alison ~ Hi my dear!!

Tonight is the Gosper County fair (the County just to the South of us). This is a city owned carnival and is just perfect. Since it is golf night for the guys - Elizabeth and the boys, Stephanie and the girls and I are going to the fair. I can't wait. I have bought 70 tickets (10 for $7.50) for the kids. They will have a ball!! Everything is 1 ticket, even the games. But I have heard if you want a funnel cake it's 3 tickets. They have a café open with lots of homemade goodies. We will have dinner there. I will try to get some pictures on FB.

Make it a great day all!!!

Well we finally got the apartment ready for Jenny's daughter. It was three days of solid cleaning. That refrigerator was a MESS! Boy we don't clean our own houses like we clean the places for rent!

Last night we saw Phantom of the Opera so we had dinner at the restaurant down the street from the theater. Tuesday night we did drive through food as usual. Tonight we are going out to dinner with Jenny's family when they get to town. The kids are dying to see the apartment, and after dinner we will sign the papers and give them keys. One kids works until 8:30 so I want to do it when all three are there.

PIO - glad the exchange student is working out. Hope DS feels better sokn.

Ellen - have fun at the fair, sounds like a great time.
