The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Oh marilyn, a tyler bacon sammie would be devine!

YUMMO!!!

While getting my back piece tatt'd on me today, friend who I am trying to seperate from, went with me, with promises to stick around till it was done, but ditched me (there is a lot to this whole story, but let's just leave it as the camel's back is breaking from straws for now)...while taking a break about 2 hrs into it, I get a call from the V.Principal that Ross has been suspended for 1 day for (are you ready for this), defending himself against another kid who has been bullying him, and punched Ross today and got Ross in a headlock so Ross punched the kid back. We are supposed to be happy because both kids got the same punishment..Ummm no my child has the legal right to defend himself doesn't he? We were told that if Ross hadn't of closed fist punched then he would have only received detention. (I brought up about 2 boys only getting detention for fighting a few weeks earlier, and was told that they slammed a boy into a locker and that isn't considered fighting WTH?). So, needless to say Kris is going up at 7am to have a conversation with Mr Dugal! Ross reported this kids bullying to a teacher last week and today. GRRRRR!
I am now trying to get the daily things done around the house, as my tat took 6hrs..It does look amazing, my artist is just awesome and they are (thank goodness)like family, cause between the friend issue and Ross, I was a hot mess of emotions.(doesn't help I am pms'ing!!)

So that is a brief summary of my day...I hope you all have had a much much better one then that!! I promise to be back to check in and catch up! XOXO

oh yeah no big surprise here---wfd was take out--Pizza...I wasn't about to cook.

1st of all - I'm glad you are challenging the punishment. That's ridiculous.
2nd - I want to see pics of the new tat!

We did our monthly visit to a homebound couple so I took the kids I had to keep late and drove through Mickey Ds in the church van. I'm trying to not eat as much fast food but that iced coffee was calling my name :woohoo:

So I got home and my salmon was still frozen, grr. I don't have much in the fridge right now because I am making room for T-day stuff, so I made kung pao chicken (didn't have any scallions, so I used onions and chives), soy braised broccoli, and rice. I decided after this dinner that I am pretty much done with white rice. It is so boring compared to brown.

I can't believe what I started just talking about bacon!:rotfl2: Sorry for starting the bacon cravings!

Lori, Thanks I will check out Michael's floral dept! :goodvibes I hope I can find them, the grapes on the necklace you gave me, even had a little hole to string them.

Wendie, That stinks! A kid who's never been in trouble gets suspension for defending his face! :upsidedow Good luck with the stupid principal! A 6 hour tatt!!! Yikes!

Ann, I'm going look for that recipe now!

Oh YUM!! The dishes you throw together with an empty fridge!... :confused3faint....:thumbsup2

I couldn't catch up with y'all yesterday, more Kyle & Mariah drama.

WFD - Chicken Francese, angel hair pasta and corn.

Good Morning!

Quick fly by...I need to get the house cleaned and laundry done so I can take the kids (and the doggie) to see Tom this weekend. I think we are going to go to Pittsburgh (and to see the progression of the ground breaking). I have been thinking of things to do and they all revolve around eating! So many people have told me to go to Primanti Bros for their famous sandwiches. I think they were on the Food channel once. And then I hear about the O fries and a hot dog place. My diet is really shot to poop lately!

Dinner will most likely be take out chinese food. We have hair cuts after school today.

Have a great day all!

Wendie...ouch on the tat! It would never happen on me. I am to big of a wimp. Your poor boy, that is so not right. Good luck dealing with the principal.

Kathy, hope the Kyle and Mariah drama has calmed down.

Lauren, diet :lmao:...what is that?? I am such a stress eater. I have gained all the weight I lost after delivering Emma. I am so mad at myself.

Becky, Kung po chicken looks great as usual. You talked about freezing fish and so did Sheryl the other day. Am I the only one who hates freezing fish?
I love to pick it up and eat it the same day. I need to get over this issue so we can eat it alot more. QUESTION- what fish do you girls think freeze well? And about how long do they keep frozen? Shrimp is about all the seafood I will keep in the freezer. Maybe psychologically I am keeping room for DH!!!

WFD- Shepherd's pie

Last nights call was one that shook me to the core. I shared with some of you that Greg has a very young second cousin who is now pregnant with her second child at age 19......over the summer she dangled the adoption carrot in front of our faces for weeks & then rejected the idea & is doing it again. Last night her Dad called on her behalf & said she wanted specifics about us & the legal steps she needed to take. At the end of the call she was going to go to legal aid & file the needed papers. We shall see......even if we got that far she has 25 days in the state of Virginia to change her mind after the baby is born & the father can also step in at that point. I never wanted to deal with the let down again & wish I didn't know about it at all.....

Oh, honey! I know how you feel! Truly, I do. Alan and I suffered with infertility for 7 years, and in that time, we tried to adopt. There were at least 3 times when we were told that we had been "chosen", only to have the adoptions fall through at the last moment. There is no pain to describe that!

You are in my prayers. You are in my heart! Please let me know if there's anything I can do.:hug:

Wendie - I can't believe that! That seems wrong to me. A child should be allowed to defend themselves; especially when put in a headlock! I would definitely be fighting this!

Lauren - Your story about T and the balloon made me grin! Timothy did the same thing a week ago. It was darling. He held onto that balloon, and crawled under one of his little tables so it wouldn't float away, and then he spent the longest time just hugging it, and laughing. It made my heart smile!

Ann - I'm so sorry for the family drama! I hope you can find a way to enjoy Emma's first Thanksgiving. Hugs and prayers for you!

Today is another "cleaning" day. Got to get things picked up for the cleaning people. It's amazing how much stuff we have! We definitely need to get rid of a lot!!!

I have no idea what we'll have for dinner. I have pack meeting tonight, so it will be something easy. Maybe BLT's after all the bacon talk yesterday!

Please keep Jay and my family in your prayers, good thoughts or whatever you feel comfortable with. PLEASE!!

Jay starts flying from Bagdad today. He will go to Kwait and from there we have no idea. This of course is all up in the air and if the weather (sand storms) stay under control and he can get out. Last time he spent all night (literaly - in his sleeping bag) on the tarmac waiting for his plane.

It could take up to 3 days to get home. But his 2 weeks don't start until he sets foot on American soil. And pray that the FAA gets this glitch solved really fast. The trickle effect could put a damper on him arriving by Saturday.

Thanks everyone - you all were the first place I wanted to come this morning.

Prayers said!

Morning Y'all,

Ellen, I will surely being praying for Jay!! We want him home quickly & safely!!!!:hug::flower3:

Kat, I'm sorry Kyle is having Mariah issues again! How are you doing?

Nancy, How is Marisa feeling?

Lauren, How is your arm? Don't wear yourself out, getting it all done!

Ann, You are right nothing beats fresh fish! Our local fish (redfish, trout, drum, catfish) I'll freeze the fileted fish in a ziploc with enough water to cover the fish. Stays really well like that. Our not-local stuff, like salmon, tuna, halibut, I usually intend to use it fresh but then don't get to it. So I'll stick that inside a ziploc, but it won't keep as long.

Ann, I'm still working on writing that recipe. Do you want the basic recipe or this year's "nanatized" version?

I don't know what's for dinner! I was hoping to start on my roast today, but realized A has a book fair today.

Ellen, safe travels to Jay!

Kathy, sorry about the Mariah drama. Are you feeling better?

Lauren, one of my coworkers grew up in Pittsburgh and she had told me about the Primanti sandwiches. I guess they are really tasty. One warning though...she told me that they put french fries on EVERYTHING! So, for example, if you order a salad, it comes with french fries on it! She LOVES it, but that sounds crazy to me!

Ann, I prefer fresh fish also. However, there are a couple of things I will keep in the freezer: shrimp, salmon--but only salmon that has been vacuum packed and deep frozen at Whole Foods, and sushi grade tuna--again vacuum packed and deep frozen at Whole Foods. I don't always have time to stop at the store after work, and I do love fish. Fresh is my preference, but these choices will work in a pinch.

WFD: Salmon!

Ellen -- Prayers that Jay gets home safely and quickly. I really know how that feels.

Maria -- I am so sorry Cameron is putting you and Greg through this. You said this is her second baby? Did she give the first baby up for adoption? I pray everything works out for the best.

Ann -- The fish Becky uses is purchased at Whole Foods. It is flash frozen at sea. I have had their sashimi grade tuna, and it was good.

Robin -- Your MIL sounds a lot like mine. Did you ask about a pizza stone a while back? The only recommendation I have is to get a rectangular one rather than the round one. I used to have a round one, and I could never get my pizza the exact right shape, so it wouldn't fit on the stone. The rectangular one is more forgiving.

Sheryl -- Your menu doesn't sound boring to me. You all had me laughing with all the bacon comments.

Wendie -- How did things go with the principal? It doesn't seem right that Ross should receive the same punishment as the aggressor.

Lauren -- How are things going with the house? Have you had any interested buyers? Enjoy your weekend.

Glynis -- Would you like to come paint my house next? ;) I think that is something that is going to have to wait until the new year here. I would love to get it all done before Christmas, but I just don't see that happening.

Janice -- Your Thanksgiving plans sound awesome. I love just going to dinner at my neighbors' houses.

Kathy -- I'm sorry there is more drama going on. This has been happening for a long time. I hope you're feeling better.

Aimee -- I hope your week has settled down some.

I'm sorry if I missed anything else.

I actually get to cook a regular meal tonight. I think it will be some kind of fish, but I'm not exactly sure of the menu yet. I have to go to the store.

Caili has her first official US Figure Skating test tomorrow morning. We have to be at the rink at 7 AM. :headache:

Hey lassies,

Low profile the now,for every ones sake.

I am strugglin with insomnia so Im a wee bit on a nerve and crabbit,I am readin but no postin because my emotions are either... or :sad1:.

I will say - Wendy, give that principal hell and if you need me, I'll be right ower and go all Braveheart on his butt !!

Maria - I know you guys know what you are doing but that girl Cameron seems a heart break waiting to happen. Please be careful...I dont want your kind heart hurt again !!

Every one else...sendin love ower the water to you and yours xx

Good morning everyone, hope you are all well.

Laura- Thanks for the tip on the pizza stone, I will definatly look for a rectangular one. I also want it for bread so that will be better than round. I think I'm going to ask for it for Christmas. My husband and I are doing one gift each, we figure if we can't remember last years gifts it's silly to just buy stuff. Besides, more money for Disney!

Ellen- I hope Jay's home soon, at least he gets the same amount of time home whenever he gets there.

Kathy- Sorry Kyle is having trouble again. Will he have a long weekend home for Thanksgiving?

Glynis- I seem to be having alot of cleaning days. I don't want to much work next week, but I have a long haired cat, long haired dog, and am married to a tree climber. Fur and woodchips everywhere, and I just vacuumed.

Wendie- Sorry Ross had a tough day. My kiddo was getting bullied at school and they told me it was just girls being girls. There's lots of great pricipal's out there, but not all of them. Hope it all gets worked out.

Ribs, broccoli, squash for dinner tonight. Today was a half day at school so I guess that means I probably need to make lunch too.

Hi everyone! I'm quickly checking in but hope to read up and catch up tonight. I just wanted to request a few prayers for Hailey (and for me, honestly). Today at 1:45 she has a dentist appointment and they are horrible. Picture my poor baby in full body restraints with blocks holding her mouth open while she screams in complete terror the entire time. :scared:

The doctor prescribes xanax for her during this but she had it the last time and we still had to have four people holding her in the restraints (including me). Quite frankly I would rather be horse whipped than do this, but she has to have the dental work done. I even tried bribing Kenny into taking a turn but he said the first time she screamed, it would be over, even if it meant we were buying false teeth down the road.

So as many of you are all too aware, this is a mother's job. Pray for us please.

Vickie, I'm sorry you're not sleeping! Sending hugs & sweet dreams over the water!:cloud9:

Robin, I have a square pizza/bread stone. It's sort of a pain to move because it's large & heavy, but it does a great job for pizza & breads. I can do any shape bread I want, will even fit 2 baguettes.

Ann, I'm with Becky on the frozen WF's salmon, tuna! I also buy frozen halibut when they have it.

Laura, I admit my T-day menu is not boring. It's just that I'm bored with it!

GOOD LUCK TO CAILI!!! I hope she's not nervous about the test!

Gretchen, prayers said you you to get through today. I can't imagine.:sad1:

Wendie, what happened at school this morning?

Glynis, thank you for the thoughts & prayers. I didn't know that you had been in an adoption whirlwind, I know you understand.

Vickie, my heart aches for you....the last insomnia bought I had was almost 3 weeks. It's horrible & then sets off my migraines. Please feel better, sending you love & strength.

Ellen, prayers for Jay. Please let us know his progress.

Lauren, have a great time in your new home city!!!! Safe travels:goodvibes

Kat, sorry about the junk Kyle has been going through.

My flight to Florida was canceled due to the glitch in the air traffic control software...Now I should fly Saturday...We shall see.
