The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Maria – I agree with everyone, the Poly sounds good to me. Do you have time to coordinate this and get the word out if we find out we can’t do BLT?:goodvibes
we can get is appreciated.

I say Poly it is...I will call Vickie, I have her number. How much time do we need for pineapple drinks???!!!!!:cool1:

Steph, please PM me your number, I will put it in my cell. As long as Gretchen is ok with the Poly it is a go!

Nan, support is what we do here. You are one of the kindest, loving, smart women I know & hope in some way I can help you during this scary time.
Please focus on Nola, she'll make you smile & forget for a bit.

Greg & I are supposed to go out with another couple for dinner. He is on Long Island for the day & to be honest I hope he is running late so we reschedule......just not in the mood & I have the chicken stew all ready.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HAILEY!!!!!!xoxo

Aimee--I couldn't taste the chocolate at all. And the masa harina is a corn flour used to make tortillas. I found it in our latino food aisle.

Thanks! :goodvibes

Have a great trip!!!

Oh forgot ,

I had packed all the cases on tuesday but the boy insisted he was big enough to pack his own hand luggage.

he has a cool camoflage bag he used for sleep over but he came down stairs with his mini Mickey suit case he has taken every year since he was 2.

No matter how grown up and cool my boy thinks he is I Love he still " gets the magic "...

I love this mental picture!!

I need to make an appointment with the neurologist this morning, his office was closed yesterday when I called. I also need to find out if the Dr was able to get that MRI approved. She said that she wants it as soon as possible. If Buddy went to the hospital he could get it sooner but I think we are going to see if the Dr has any luck before that. I also want to talk to her about his vision. The eye Dr said that the pigment in his eye was the same yet he is experiencing loss. I wonder if this stenosis thing has anything to do with that. The Dr told me that if the pain is worse or if he has any loss of motor function he is to go straight to the ER. She led me to believe that she would have been more comfortable if he went last night.

I am going to talk to Gail as soon as she gets out of work. I also need to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers for my Buddy. I cannot tell you how odd most folks would find my turning to a message board for support but I cannot imagine not having you all to lean on. I am not going to put my fears on Buddy so I am afraid I am planning on dumping them all on you :sad1: :grouphug:

I'm glad you got an appt, and that others feel cancer is unlikely. I hope the tests have good answers for you and Buddy

Aimee – I’m sorry, I missed your post on ME, not sure where my head has been lately. We’ve done ME the last 3 trips and haven’t had any issues except having to leave so darn early to get to MCO for trip home.

Good to hear. We'll have a rental that will get us back to the airport so thankfully we won't have to leave so darn early! It is funny how far in advance they make you leave. Better safe than sorry, I guess.

Today is Hailey's birthday and the poor girl gets to celebrate with a visit to my OB/GYN. It was the only time he could work her in and he is hoping to give her something that may keep her monthly visitor away or at least minimize it as much as possible. Then, because being a grown up girl seems to be the theme of the day, I am taking her to be measured for her first big girl bra. The little girl training ones just aren't going to cut it for much longer.

Happy birthday to Miss Hailey!! I'm sorry she's spending it by seeing the OBGYN, I hate those visits, but I hope they have something that will help her out.

I had my 4th infusion this morning, but it won't be my last. Saw the PA, he said that because my iron is so low (I didn't know how low until today), I'm having constant internal bleeding, and I can't get much iron in one sitting due to my risk of reaction, this should be a weekly thing but they are going to give me a few weeks off. However my iron level comes back tomorrow and if it's any lower, I'll continue weekly.

DH is going out of town until tomorrow so I have no idea what I'll eat :confused3

Nancy, Lean away my friend. You have always been there for us, now, very unfortunately, is your turn. I am glad you have had some good feedback from family and I hope that eases your nerves a bit. I will continue to keep you and Buddy in my prayers. Enjoy cutie Nola today!

*********
Ellen, Good luck to Matthew!!! How awesome is that! Please keep us posted on scores. My Dad tried teaching me to golf when I was younger but I had more fun rolling down the hills! I wish I kept it up though since now I would like to learn.

*********
Happy Birthday Hailey!!!

Gretchen, I hope the day goes as smoothly as it could for you and you enjoy your wine. I am so happy for you guys to be building a house! Exciting!

*********
Maria, I hope Greg works late! ;) Did you see my question to you on Facebook?

*********
Kat, How is your ankle?

*********
Aimee, I am sorry that you have to continue infusions...I hope you feel better soon.

*********
Sheryl, How is Alexis today?

I guess I had a good idea for the Poly! Maybe meet between 4:15 - 4:30?

The realtors were here taking final pics and said I have the house nicely tidyed (sp) up. It is being shown the first time tonight!!! :scared1: At dinner time so I guess we'll go out! Hooray no cooking again!

I had more to say, but I forgot and now the baby is waking. I hope everyone has a great day! BBL

Lean away, my friend! You have been there for me through all my scary times, and I'm happy to return the favor! Buddy has been in my prayers and will continue to be so. I also put his name in our prayer circle. I hope that's ok with you.
Actually adding him to a prayer circle is just what I hoped for. They are very powerful. Thank you so much

You dump all you want my dear friend. That is what we are here for. Many prayers are being said for Buddy. Please keep us posted. I am sending you a PM so look for it.

Thank you so much! Have fun tonight!

Ann - Johnny is just fine, thanks for asking.

Nancy - Glad Gail & Mike were able to ease your mind, praying they are right.

I am so glad that Johnny is better today. Yesterday must have been so frightening!

I am taking a positive approach and have decided that Gail and Mike are right :thumbsup2 The last thing Buddy needs is me moping around and scared. He tends to mimic my behavior when it comes to other folks illnesses so I am not going to make this worse than I am positive it is.

Nan, support is what we do here. You are one of the kindest, loving, smart women I know & hope in some way I can help you during this scary time.

You are such a homebody :cloud9: I hope that yoou get to stay home and enjoy your stew.

Right now Nola is munching on animal crackers. She ate two bowls of my soup and 1/2 container of yogurt. Her Mom said she was not hungry so I am packing a big container for Welby to take home. I think she misses Nana's food :goodvibes She does not complain about Nanatizing :lmao:

Good Luck!!!!!!

I had to take my car into the shop yesterday afternoon because the check engine light came on.

I hate getting my car serviced. Hope it is a quick fix

I suppose now is not the time to admit that when we moved in to our current house we could not figure out why our (gas) heat went off one night and we had to call the gas man in the middle of the night...yup, we did not notice that the GIANT RED switch on the wall that controls the burner had been switched to "off!" We'd never had gas heat before and did not know to look. :rolleyes1

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Sigh. I guess my baby isn't a baby any longer.

Happy Birthday to Miss Hailey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gretchen- she will always be your baby girl. My Dad called me "Baby Doll" until the day he died. My brother and sister still refer to Gail and I as "the Kids"

I have decide I am not cooking. I have a gift certificate to a little restaurant on the lake. It is usually crowded so we have not gone at all this summer but it is cold today so it should be okay. It really is a Bar/restaurant but I am in the mood for bar food anyway

Marilynn- I wonder how many different ways I've spelled your name, sorry. Anyway, I didn't really care for the gnocchi soup but I love the Zuppa one. I make a copycat recipe of it quite often. It was the only reason I went to Olive Garden, now I just make a big batch at home.

That's okay, at least you are close. I get people who will call me at work, where I say my name when I answer the phone, who will then call me Martha, Meredith, Melissa :rotfl:

I liked the Zuppa one but with my sore throat it was just a little to spicy and as much as I love potatoes with the skins on I just didn't like the fact that they were just floating around the soup on their own. :rotfl: I looked up the recipes last night and am going to try both of them.

Dinner tonight will be chicken from Costco. My DM is off, she had to have one of her regular throat procedures, so she will be picking that up. I have a football game I am hoping to get to.

Maria – Thanks so much for coordinating our cocktail hour for us, I really appreciate it!:cool1:

Aimee – I am sorry you are dealing with these infusions, sure wish there was an easier way for you.

Lauren – Unfortunately my ankle isn’t much better. I’m calling my Dr tomorrow and scheduling a cortisone shot for Monday. Can’t wait to see pics of your house.:goodvibes

Nan – I’m so glad you have that sweet Nola there with you to keep you busy and with a smile on your face. Please call if you want to talk, anytime. Enjoy your dinner out.

I found some pretty beef spare ribs at the store and plan on cooking them this weekend. I’ve never cooked these, any ideas or recipes???

Your very welcome!
How about using the Beef Bourginione(sp) that I used with the shortribs? It's delicious.
So glad your getting the shot.

Aimee, I'm sorry your going through all of this. Prayers continued.

Lauren, where are the pictures? Can't wait to see them.
Good luck tonight, maybe you'll have a buyer right away:confused3. I have to admit the thought of you being further away is making me nervous........not sure why.

The other couple canceled dinner tonight, I have to say I'm thrilled!
Dinner tonight, chicken stew w/ polenta cakes.

I'm definitely going to try that recipe one day but Johnny wants to grill the ribs, just not sure how long I need to pre-cook them????

Hey y'all, I am so far behind it's not even funny!

I see it's Hailey birthday! I hope she has a happy day after she is finished with the gyno.. I dread the the gyno visit most of all & for her to have to go on her birthday just makes me sad. Hugs for Hailey & Mom.

Nancy, I'm sorry Buddy is still hurting & you're worrying. I wish I could help. I'm sending prayers & love.:flower3::hug:

Someone will have to clue me in on the goings on next week. Right now I'm swamped with laundry and helping Alexis catch up with school work.

She is feeling great. She hasn't had diarhea & she is eating very well. The dr. said it could come back when she finishes the antibiotic, so she is not out of the woods quite yet. She's goes in for a recheck tomorrow. If she stays well over the weekend she should be able to return to school on Monday!

:grouphug:

Here is an update on Matthew:

He has shot a 38 / -1 under par on the front 9.

That is pretty good because it is nasty here today. The temps. are around 39 with winds and drizzle.

WooHoo - I will let you know as soon as I know any more. But so far so good.

Thanks!!
