The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Nancy- I just made banana bread and remembered I had told you I'd post the recipe for you. This is the recipe I always make, I don't even bother looking at others, so simple and so tasty. I usually do half white half whole wheat flour and the kiddo doesn't mind- neither do I

Banana Bread

3 very ripe bananas, whipped
½ cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ cup walnuts

Cream butter and sugar, add eggs. Add flour and baking soda. Mix in bananas and nuts. Bake at 350*F for about 45 minutes.

Makes 3 small loaves, freezes very well.

Ann- I grew up next to a horse farm and I used to love walking over with my dad to feed the horses. Enjoy your corn, the farmstand near us had a sign that said last corn of the season.

Laura- I'm sorry Caili still not feeling well, is she very uncomfortable or just hot?

Ellen- Can't wait to hear the good news! I'm the same way, don't want to say anything until you know for sure.

Sheryl- Do you think jewelry making would be doable for a nine year old girl? I was thinking of some stuff to get her started for Christmas since she already has everything under the sun.

Lauren- That is so exciting about the house! You've already had so much practice working on the one your in now, I'm sure your new one will be perfect.

Maria- I'm going to Trader Joe's tomorrow, is your dinner from them anything I should get to try? I like to get at least one new thing there everytime I go.

Becky- I don't do facebook, did you get a prize for first place?

Off to do the laundry.

Laura Sorry Caili is still running a fever. I hope the rest of you don't get it.

Ellen I know you posted a while back about what we can send to Jay. I lost it, can you repost PLeasssse.

Nancy Poor Buddy I hate back pains. I hope he gets some relief soon.

Ann Don't worry about keeping up. God knows I don't do well and I have just 1 big baby.;)

Lauren Boy you have you work cut out for you. Sorry if I only sympathize. I really don't want to every pack up all this stuff I've accumlated.

Kathy I hope you are surprised and Kyle made the team. pixiedust:

Vickie Oh my I hope the dentist gave you a prescription for some pain meds. Take them.

It has gotten pretty cold here. This morning it was 48 and I am not putting on the heat yet. I told Alex to get his electric blanket out.

Tonight we are having leftover flank steak made into quesdillas with rice and a veggie.

Robin My neighbors daughter is 10 and she makes really pretty jewelry. She also does some kind of knitting without needles just twisting yarn together :confused3. It is hard to explain but she just flyes through it. She got a book at the library.

Robin, very similar to my DGM recipe. Only diff. is a 1/2 tsp salt, and melted butter. Ours freezes great too...yummy with cream cheese.

Thanks for the welcome backs all. I appreciate it. Things have been kind of hectic here, and I guess that since Rick started talking to people about it, I can too.......

.......we are looking at condos when we head to Orlando in a couple of weeks!
We're torn- while we love NOLA and the people and friends we have there, we've just steadily gotten tired of the ordeal of living there. So, after much heartache and indecision, we've decided to look into relocating. Orlando suburbs- Kissimee, Lake Buena Vista, Winter Garden, etc get us close to the World, shopping, downtown districts have some incredible arts, and the airport is easy for us to get in and out of town with alot of options for work...

whew! There. I finally got it out.:headache:

BUT, if it works out, there'll always be an extra bedroom for my WFD gals!:cutie:

Prayers still out there for Glynis' Dad and Kyle.

Vickie... Dentist= ouch! :scared1:

I had leftovers for a late lunch so I may just skip dinner tonight. Otherwise it's panfried perch and sweet potato with salad.

Lori - I am really so happy for you guys!!!!! Living in the Orlando area can only be a dream for me, so I'll enjoy living it through y'all. And yes, you can bet Johnny & I will come and visit for sure!:thumbsup2

Lori That must have been a difficult decision. Congrats but be careful on listing the extra bedroom. You might just have a few of us on your doorstep.

Lori, good luck condo shopping! Best of luck with the move near the mouse. :thumbsup2

Good luck with the condo shopping. I'm sure making a decision to move like that can be hard but there are a lot of benifits where you are going.

I thought that said "pertrified" :scared1: :rotfl:

There is a change in dinner, just got home and didn't feel like cooking so I just popped a pre-made quiche in the oven and I'll have some cut up tomato.

Just got the call from Kyle, he didn't make it. It came down to him and a left hander and they really needed another lefty on the squad. He sounded very disappointed but we both told him how proud we are of him and this now begins a new chapter in his life. Thanks to all for the good thoughts and prayers.:grouphug:

Door's always open! You should know that by now! Bring food. Or candy. Or liquor.

The extra bedroom was my requirement- so everyone would come "visit" and help me settle in!;) So hopefully down the road the first post will have the Lori visitation calendar!:rotfl2:

Kat- give him a hug from me. Tell him to keep in shape and try again next year, but enjoy life between now and then!

Robin, I made the easiest thing compliments of Trader Joe's.

~Took 2 bags of the grilled frozen chicken
~1 jar of artichoke, red pepper tapanade (which is what you should try!)
~ TJ low sodium chicken broth
~TJ tomato basil marinara sauce

Dumped it all in a pan, oven for 45 minutes. Greg loved it!
I was really impressed with TJs whole wheat spaghetti:thumbsup2

Lori, good luck condo shopping. We have very dear friends down there so if you need some suggestions on areas just let me know.
His Dad has been an architect for Disney for 25+ years, one of his designs is Minnie & Mickey's houses....I've already asked where all those "Mouse House" pieces are going;)

Laura, poor baby. How high is her fever?

Kat, poor Kyle:hug: Please let him know how proud I am of him!!!!!! He is a winner in my book!

Ann, let me know if you want to chat.

WOW Kyle went far! :cheer2: That is a great accomplishment! Who knows something can happen later on.:confused3 Not wishing the leftie bad luck but :rolleyes1.

Lori I have some Harry Potter chocolate flys ;) BTB we are waiting for the Harry Potter's village to open I hope it mets everyone expectations.

Maria Have you recovered from your marathon house hunting?

I asked him if he would try again next year and choking back tears he said "Mom, I'm done". Baseball has been such a major part of his life but as I said, everything happens for a reason and now he can concentrate on school. It just hurts me so much right now knowing my boy is sad and I can't help him.:sad1:

I have.......it was a whirlwind! The one that I loved will have to drop price drastically for us to bid so we'll see what happens. The backyard was like a tropical resort.
Where's Harry Potter Village going to be?

I know that this is really hard for him. I think he is an extraordinary young man! You raised a good boy there, mom!

Tell him from me, that now that this door is closed, it's time for him to start looking for the window that opened! He will find something that he loves and that will be that! I have every confidence that Kyle will do amazing things with his life! That's the way you raised him!

Kathy, :grouphug: to you , Johnny and Kyle. I know it is a sad day for you all, and even worse having a disappointed child.
