The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Kyle came in and we sorted through some of Sammie's stuff and we grieved together. I'm so sad for him, while dealing with losing Sammie, Mariah is acting out again, like he hasn't had enough to deal with. Honestly I wish they would just call it off for good, he should be happy and looking forward to baseball try-outs instead of dealing with the "drama".

I can't wait to go to work tomorrow and to the gym, gotta get out of the house. We ARE CLOSING on M&D's house at 10:30 Wednesday morning!!!!!!!!!!!

Kat I so feel for you. I just can't believe how our live mirror each other. My Matthew is having the same problems/drama with Ali. They have been together 4 1/2 years. Part of me is ok - they do need to know this is the right thing and find out now instead of later but a part is also really missing her. We love her dearly. Matthew is a total wreck and so far away. And I agree with you - these boys DO NOT need to deal with this now!! OH MY!!! I will keep everything I have crossed for the sale of the house.

B]bottom line no biopsies & I go back in 6 months[/B]:thumbsup2

Mom & I then went for a late lunch, ate like pigs & then some shopping therapy. I'm so glad she was with me.

Thank you for all your thoughts & prayers.....

Thank you so much for your thoughts & prayers

Praise the Lord!!! I am so happy my friend. How is our Miss Lily doing?

Ann- not you too! Take it easy today!

I spoke to Marisa and she said Kady was fine this morning. She sent an email to the teacher to give her a heads up that if Kady needs to use the bathroom more often than they think necessary let her go and told Kady to ask to see the nurse if she needed to.

I hope Kady starts to feel better real soon. Bless her heart!!

Ann ~ Sweetie you need to take care - I worry about you. Emma will be just fine and hopefully Luke starts to feel better today. Rest is your friend right now. Rest as much as you can, when you can.

Have you all gotten your flu shots yet? If not get them soon. Doug and I are going tomorrow.

I am so READY to see the sun!! It is another dreary day here on the plains. I hope to get out to my flower beds tonight and start clearing them up. The snow will be flying befor we know it. YUCK!!

WFDT ~ Baked Macaroni & Cheese and hot dogs, green salad and chips. Real fancy huh? :rotfl2:

Make it a GREAT day my friends. I hope to be in and out today. Kind of a slow day. I hope!!:cool1:

Lauri and Kady, I hope you are both better today.

Maria, good news on the tests! I am glad it worked out OK.

Kathy, fingers crossed for tomorrow. I know you will keep us posted.

I am very tired this morning! It took us 1.5 hours to get out of the parking lot last night, and another hour to get home, even though we only live 15-20 minutes from the stadium. Traffic is a nightmare around Gillete Stadium! The game was fun though, and very exciting at the end. However, I think I am going to watch the rest of the season at home on my TV.

Dinner tonight is just going to be a picnic mishmash to use up stuff in the fridge. Leftover cornish hens served cold, a fritatta made from leftover pasta, some sliced tomatoes, and possibly some corn on the cob.

Morning Y'all,

....bottom line no biopsies & I go back in 6 months:thumbsup2

Oh I wish I would have seen this last night! We must have posted at the same time. I was worrying about you last night & you were on my mind first thing this morning! I'm so glad you won't need a biopsy!!:yay::cool1::worship: That is wonderful news!! :goodvibes

Ann, I'm so sorry that you're really sick now too! I wish I could help! and prayers :flower3:for you & Luke to be well!

Nancy & Marisa, I'm sorry Kady isn't feeling well! Prayers that she gets better! :flower3: Her gymnastics class sounds like a very serious school. If she likes gymnastics & this place is too "high pressure" you might want to look around for something else. I do know that dancing school tumbling & gymnastics are not the same thing. But if they are putting too much pressure on her right away, that might not be a good sign. Some of the gyms around here are over the top serious, as if every child is going to become a world class gymnasts. Just too much stress for little ones.

Nan, What's lightened sauerkraut?

Maria, Alexis has been eating at about 200%! We stopped at the snowball stand which she calls the icecream stand because she ALWAYS gets vanilla softserve icecream with rainbow sprinkles. She ate about half of that, then asked for a brownie, ate that. Then she asked me to fix her "long noodles with sauce" and "oh please add some fresh herbs this time"! She ate two very large bowls of that. Then as she was walking out the door with Chris she asked her "Mom, What's for Dinner?"! :lmao: Yes I would say her appetite is back.

(TMI but we think the reason she is eating/feeling better is the mirolax & fiber Chris has started giving her. A has always had problems with constipation & that was really bad in the hospital. Chris is determined not to have that happen again, while she is healing.)

On the way home from school she said lots of teachers, assitants & the Principal were asking her how was the hospital. She said she couldn't tell them that "Some of it really hurt, but some the playroom & nurses were nice" then she told me "The worst thing ever was the 'pository they put in her butt!" I told her that"I thought that was a good idea, she didn't need to tell them about that! :lmao::rotfl2:

She was very happy when she came home from school yesterday! Acting even better than her old self! Yeah!:goodvibes

I haven't figured out WFD yet. I have some fennel I need to use, so something that works with fennel. :confused3

Becky, What you call mish mash, never looks or sounds like mish mash!! I'd gladly accept your leftovers! :goodvibes Sorry you're so tired this morning!

You have to love High school fundraisers. A just told me of one that just started for his spanish class. His goal per the school is $3000.00
 Wow, that must be some trip! Does he have to raise that much money every year? And my family complains about the kids' overpriced wrapping paper fundraiser! (Yes, Beck, it is that time again.)

Now Risa needs to find new mats for her to practice on, hers are tumbling mats and the instructor said not to use them.
:confused3 Out of curiosity, what kind of mat is she supposed to use? Poor kid. That would upset Caili if she was told everything she had been taught was wrong. I am glad Kady is feeling better.

Kathy -- I hope Kyle lets Mariah go for now. He has so many other things to focus on, he does not need a serious romantic relationship. Good luck tomorrow!

Maria -- I'm glad you got good results!

Ellen -- I'm sorry Matthew is hurting now. That is a terrible feeling. He is young, though, and if things are supposed to work out, they will.

Today is our double activity day, skating and ballet, so we will eat out in between. We won't be going to the same place as last week though! The food was okay, but the people in there were a little weird.

ETA -- I knew I was forgetting stuff! Sheryl -- I'm so glad Alexis is back in school and feeling better. I agree with you on the gymnastics. I really like the school Liam and Caili attend, but some of them are WAY too serious.

Ann -- I hope you are feeling better!

Dinner tonight is just going to be a picnic mishmash to use up stuff in the fridge. Leftover cornish hens served cold, a fritatta made from leftover pasta, some sliced tomatoes, and possibly some corn on the cob.

I will take you mishmash anytime!! Your mishmash is totally gourmet to me. :rotfl2: I hope you get some rest today.

Sheryl ~ I am so darn glad to see Alexis back to normal. The world just seems right when our little ones are ok.

Laura ~ Thanks for the kind words for Matthew. I agree he is only 19 almost 20 and he needs to focus on school. That is why I am so frustrated right now. Ali knows this - he is taking 24 hours this semester and does NOT need this added pressure. Darn her!! Thanks! Have a good night.

Morning all, hope everyone has been well.

Lauren- Congratulations to Tom! I'm sure you'll get things worked out. I was thinking of all the hard work you guys put into your house. Glad Andrew's excited, that must make this a thousand times easier.

Sheryl- I'm glad Alexis is feeling so much better. The pain medicine sure does a number on your insides, when my husband was in the hospital the nurses would hold his pills hostage until he drank a full glass of prune juice.

Kathy- I'm sorry you have so much going on. I can't relate to sending a kid off to college, but unfortunatly can relate to loosing a pup. I hope you are soon enjoying all the happy memories of her.

Laura- I don't know if you saw this or not, but we now have a manatee in the area too. Great whites and manatees- I wonder what next week will bring.

Nancy- The kiddo stopped gymnastics a while ago, she wanted to do it just for fun, but that wasn't an option. I have no problem with competitive sports, but they should be fun.

Becky- I'm glad you had fun at the game. If they all end like that one I don't think my husband's recliner is going to make it through the season, he was pretty excited.

Maria- Wonderful news! I'm glad you were able to move up the appointment, it must feel great to be done with that.

Off to the store to find out what's for dinner.

I hope that he starts to play the field. I am old fashioned but I think that there are real advantages to dating more than one person at a time. Young folks get way too serious way too fast and suddenly find themselves tied in a relationship that is not always good for them. Whatever happened to just dating?

Kady was not feeling well yesterday. Marisa is taking her to the Dr this morning if she is still under the weather. She took her first gymnastics class yesterday and it was rough! She was not feeling well and then found out that all she has learned in her previous classes needs to be unlearned and done properly:sad2: Marisa said she came out barely holding back tears, she was that stressed! Marisa explained to her that the instructors at her dance school taught her tumbling that she would use in dance but that this is different. I have no idea if this is true but it made my poor Angel feel better. Now Risa needs to find new mats for her to practice on, hers are tumbling mats and the instructor said not to use them.

I totally agree with you, Nancy! My parents had a strict rule that there was no exclusive dating until I turned 18. Then, I could do what I wanted. All through high school, I enjoyed group dating, and it was so much fun! I really got to experience dating a bunch of different guys and learned how I liked to be treated. Once I got in college, I had learned how much fun it was to play the field, so I was in no hurry to "settle down." When I found Alan, I had dated enough to know that there was something special about him, so I was ready to go to the next level. He and I dated exclusively for a year, and then were engaged for 9 months before we got married.

Poor Kady! I'm so sorry that things were stressful for her! I'm glad that Marisa was able to help her feel better!

Maria - I'm so happy that you don't need a biopsy! That scares me!!! I really need to go for my smash and bash, but I'm terrified to do it. Prod me until I do, ok? I've had 2 aunts die of breast cancer, so I need to get on top of it!

I am so nervous for this afternoon! I was asked to be the Webelos leader in our local cub scout troop, and today is my first den meeting! I've never participated in Scouts other than dropping Jacob off for den meetings. Wish me luck!!! Fortunately, there is another leader that will take charge today so that I can see how things are run. I really want to do well at this, since Jacob will be in the den in November!

Dinner tonight is up in the air. Alan went out of town this morning, and won't be home until Thursday morning, so I'm not sure what to do. I'm thinking I'll let the kids choose between a couple of things. Guess I need to see what I have on hand!

For now, I'm off to change out books at the kid's school, vote in our Primary election, run to the library, then to the store, and then home. Hopefully, I'll be able to work in some lunch, at some point.

.

Please schedule it today!!!!!! The nerves can be bad but the fear can be overwhelming.
I just went through this with my Aunt last year...if there is something wrong I would hate any of you gals to find a problem as far in as she did.

Ellen, I didn't see the problems Matthew is having I'm sorry.
Neither one of them need this right now~

Ellen, I'm sorry Matthew & Ali are having problems! I know you must feel sad & missing her too after 4 1/2 years. Gosh he's taking a lot of hours, he needs to focus right now. Hugs:hug: & :flower3:prayers!

Laura, Good luck getting it all done today. Please do stay out of weird places!;)

Glynis, Good luck with the Scouts! You'll be a great Den Mother!! You have nothing to be nervous about, you're so organized & always do such great things with your kids. They will be lucky to have you. :goodvibes I hope you can manage to get it all done today! :wizard:

Quick run through because I'm swamped at work. Really just trying to catch up what I missed last week. Hopefully I'll be back to normal and keeping up by the end of the week.

We have been trying to keep my mom busy. We are all having a hard time, but she is, of course, having the most difficult time. I did get her to agree to come with us to Disney next month so at least I won't be worried about her for the week we're gone. And maybe the change of scenery will be good for her.

Nan, I didn't know Kady was sick! I'm sorry I've had some things slip through the cracks.
Love & kisses for Kady.
From all of us NANCY PLEASE come to F&W if only for the weekend!!!! You could even bring the Princess!!!!!!!!!

I did not really say much, she had a GI thing that was on and off. Yesterday she really felt it

I'll give you a call!

Do you need us to pressure Buddy into letting you go to F&W???;)
I wish I could. I am so excited just to be there for the last couple of days of F&W and hopefully meet Lauren and her crew.

.

Buddy is our money manager, I am no good at it. If I tell him I want to go somewhere that I don't pay for out of my personal money he moves Heaven and Earth so I can go, but I know that he is stressed this year. He works for a construction company and is the first guy on the seniority list yet he was laid off last year before Christmas. This year has been very slow so he is worried that winter will be tight. I hate to put more pressure on him now because I really want him to take a vacation for himself this winter or Spring.

Traffic is a nightmare around Gillete Stadium! The game was fun though, and very exciting at the end. However, I think I am going to watch the rest of the season at home on my TV.

My neighbors went yesterday and both took today off. Good thing, I saw he out late this morning and she looked like she got run over by a truck! They have a two hour ride home I think.

I am dying over Alexis! Between that appetite, her 'pository and the Happy Schoolgirl I am tickled!
*********

Lightened sauerkraut is a lower fat version of my heart attack on a plate version that I make once in a blue moon. I always use bacon fat and bacon along with my sister IL's addition of a little butter. It is really good but I can feel my arteries hardening as it cooks adn the pounds creeping back just thinking about it. I have some turkey bacon and wil use a little olive oil and just add more seasoning. Buddy's Mom always served it with hot dogs instead of kielbasa and she also diced up onions with cider vinegar and lots of black pepper. He loves it!

************************

Kady was not pressured by the instructor yesterday. It was her first day and it was clear to her that she needed a lot more practice to get to where she wants to be. She was also worried that if she went to a different school she would need to learn everything yet again. Marisa made her understand that that was not the case. She was evluated and the instructor told Marisa that she would have put her in teh "pre team" which is their competitive team if she knew that she would "push past the pain". Right now her posture needs work and her hips are tight so she bends one leg to accomodate them. I think that she is better where she is, the instructor she has is the pre team instructor so she is going to be able to help her.

In the dance class they did not teach to the kids who were "on top" they taught to the ones who struggled so Kady paid the price. Kady loves this and will practice on her own, Marisa would not push her.

Funny thing, the instructor is Russian and has a strong accent. Kady had a hard time understanding her so Marisa told her that in no time she would learn to understand her, after all her Dr has an accent. She was dumbfounded, her Dr does nto have an accent! Marisa thought that was funny, he is Indian and has a very pronounced accent but Kady has never heard it :goodvibes

Today is our double activity day, skating and ballet, so we will eat out in between. We won't be going to the same place as last week though! The food was okay, but the people in there were a little weird.

Don't overdo and stay away from weirdos!

Kady's mats need to be thinner and longer adn that is all I know ;) Marisa is looking to find them so that she has one less thing to worry about, poor little OCD control freak kid :lmao:

.

I saw the poor lost manatee :sad2:, I hope he is okay

Marisa would never send her if it was not fun. That is why I will never have a little Ballerina or Irish Step Dancer......she hated it! I tried to convince her that it would be fun but after a few years she is not buying that story anymore;)

Maria - I'm so happy that you don't need a biopsy! That scares me!!! I really need to go for my smash and bash, but I'm terrified to do it. Prod me until I do, ok? I've had 2 aunts die of breast cancer, so I need to get on top of it!

I know that you are going to be fine this afternoon so I am going right to the other subject!

Schedule your mammogram!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Breast cancer does not follow a pattern so even if no one in your family had it you would be at risk simply becasue you are a woman. The fact that your Aunts died means that you are predisposed adn should have been having mammograms for years! My sister IL had a transflap mastectomy at 35 so Marisa has been screened since she was about 35 years old.

Now call! You need to be an example to your beautiful daughters, be in goodf health for all of your family and be alive for them.

If you are worried I will talk to you all the way to the imaging center and all the way home. Go to one where there is a Dr onsite who can read the films and reassure you before you leave.

Off my soapbox unless I find out you did not call!

Breaking out of lurkdom here - Glynis - I finally went and had this done last year after putting it off for about forever. Go - now - call. Don't know if you've ever had it done before, but find out if they have the digital machines near you. Thy are quicker and not painful at all. I was in and out of the place in like 5 minutes. So do this for those precious kids of yours.

Now returning you to your regularly scheduled board talk.;)

ETA - since I'm here - dinner is stuffed bell peppers.

We were told the doctor wanted to do the sonogram so we waited some more....bottom line no biopsies & I go back in 6 months:thumbsup2

Tonight I'm having what we planned to have last night - hamburger steaks with mushroom gravy, squash and zucchini, and scalloped potatoes.

Big Brother finale is tonight! :woohoo:

I am dying over Alexis! Between that appetite, her 'pository and the Happy Schoolgirl I am tickled!

Nancy, I hope you didn't think that I was insunating that you or Marisa were pushing her to do gym! I wasn't! I just do not want any Big Mean instructor pushing our Princess to tears!

Gretchen, I'm glad to see that you stopped in. I worry less when we hear from you. I'm very happy your Mom is going to go to WDW with y'all! It will be one less worry for you. Hugs & Prayers & Good thoughts are always heading your way!
