The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Well, I've decided to make the pierogi casserole that Heidi posted on page 28. It sounded good and easy. Things are still crazy here, and I need something yummy and fast!

Did I mention that I saw Julie and Julia before we went camping? I dragged Alan to it, kicking and screaming! However, it was my turn to choose the movie, so I got my way! I absolutely LOVED the movie. And Alan was surprised to find that he loved it, too! I thought Meryl Streep was amazing, and so was Stanley Tucci (her husband in the movie). I really hope that the Academy pays attention to her work in this film. It is certainly Oscar worthy! I also really liked the Amy Adams character. In my opinion, it was a movie that worked on all levels! I told Alan that if Santa should choose to leave this movie in my stocking, I would be grateful!!!

Well, it's back to laundry for me! I'm through with all the camping laundry, and now I'm working my way through the stuff that got barfed on. Ick!

Nancy, I spoke to Gretchen Friday. She is doing as well as can be expected. Her sister was in for a visit but returned home. Hailey was able to have some quality time with her Grand Dad. Kenny, is just being a wonderful support & strength for her.
She asked for continued prayers of mercy. :grouphug:

I've been thinking a lot about her, thanks for keeping in touch with her. Prayers continue.

I'm dying to see that movie!

My plan of "feeding the boys" seems to be working....I brought red beans & rice to them on Saturday and they ate it last night. Today two of the roommates have asked to be my friend on facebook. I asked them if they'd like me to bring them some Shrimp Monica, stuffed artichokes and garlic bread when I come up on Friday and they're really excited...plan is definitely working.....;)

You are so going to be the "cool" mom! All his friends are going to be begging to hang out at his place, especially when they hear you are coming! I'm glad that he is adjusting to his place well. I can't even imagine how hard it must be for you (and Ellen, too). Listening to both of you makes me want to hold onto my babies for as long as possible. Thanks for all your wisdom!

Nan, I never answered. Emily did make it into Billy Elliott. BUT the problem is where they want her....NYC, London or Chicago which will be opening soon.

The final answer we are still waiting on.:confused3

Aimee, I hope you feel better! Hang in there.
Could you buy your medication & then submit to the insurance company if/when the approve the medication?

Dinner tonight will be chicken sausage, tomato, cucumber salad & roasted corn salsa.

Dinner last night was t-bones, homemade potato salad & grilled red onions & portabellas on the grill.

Hey Y'all,

I've read back, but my brain is just mush. Alexis & I are feeling much better! We were up early, we made blueberry pancakes & went for a swim before the sky started falling.

Glynis, Welcome home!

Nancy, I'm praying for Buddy!

Maria, Congrats to Emily! I sure hope she gets a spot that's close to home.

I should be doing laundry but it's taking me forever to read through. I have a whole chicken brining not sure how I'm cooking it yet. Probably beer can chicken.

We don't have an aide yet. I managed fine this morning, but hopefully we'll fine some help.

Some good news, Alexis got the teacher we were hoping for! Also the bus driver is a woman & the bus stop is right next door. Chris will take off Wednesday, put her on the bus & follow her to school to find her class (and carry the all the school supplies!)

Sept/Oct is some of the best times to buy cars. For one, the new models are overtaking the lots and they are getting desperate to move out the old. It's also a slower time so they are offering more incentives and lower interest rates.

My BFF got a mini van after getting pregnant with #3 and they drove it to a Sunday school party. She said there is nothing more hilarious than watching a bunch of 30 year old MEN playing with all the gadgets and drooling over a mini van :rotfl: All the women stood in the house and giggled at them. Things change when you're carting kids and their gear!
Hope you feel better soon!

I think we are better off waiting on the car too. Dad told me today a family friend is working as a sales manager at a local Toyota dealer. We might just have to pay him a visit soon.

You made me smile with the gadgets story about the guys. That is my DH to a 'T'. He fell in love with the Sienna we rented in WDW and nothing seems to compare gadget wise.

Congrats to Emily, she must be so proud. Location would scare me a bit however, I am not one for change.

I have a feeling you are going to be the most loved house mom. I am not surprised. Who wouldnt love ya!!!

-----
Nancy, sending love to you and Buddy.

Marisa, how is the knee feeling? Sorry I have not asked in a while

Becky, beer can chicken sounds good. I have not made that in a while. It is sometimes very hard for dh to part with his beer if you know what I mean. I had to beg for him to save one for me this week to cook my brats in. His solution was to buy another 18 pack for the fridge. I got a bottle of wine out of the deal.:lmao:

----

We just got home from my parents. They spoiled the kids on vacation. I left with two huge bags of clothes from the Wooden Soldier and Carters. She got them the cutest matching Christmas jammies.

I forgot to mention earlier DSD is getting married this Friday, yes this friday:scared1:. They just wanted a small courthouse service before he enlist.

Please keep DSD and my DB in your prayers. DB just got bad colonoscopy results, and has to go for more tests. Thanks

Emma crying gotta run

I'm still praying for aide help for you. Glad you're both feeling better and :cheer2: on Alexis getting the teacher!!!

Why do I cry every time I go to tell Kyle goodbye on the phone? Did you do that? I know it probably makes him sad so I really need to stop.:sad2:

I'm just so happy with this group of young men, they are just wonderful! Kyle is truly very, very happy. They all went to mass together and grocery shopped last night.:goodvibes I can't wait till Emma is old enough to talk so I can start her on LSU...LSU...LSU!

Prayers offered.

Becky, I forgot to say earlier... That salad with the fried egg is amazing! I don't know how you managed to get that to come out perfect. First a perfectly peeled soft boiled egg, then battered & fried??! Wow!:worship:

Ann, I'll be praying for your SD! That sure is fast! I'll also be praying for your brother!

For the beer can chicken, if you're willing to part with your wine, you can use that in a soft drink can. I always to my "beer can" chicken with white wine, we just like it better. That is what we're having tonight with grilled corn & sweet potatoes.

Hello all! Busy weekend here and am headed out to my cousins to go swimming and haven't finished getting caught up yet.

WARNING! Whining post ahead! I apologize in advance for always asking for prayers, support & just being an overall downer! If you're tired of it, just feel free to skip this post, I really understand!

Bob just called, our aide has been complaining about knee pain. She went to the ortho today & she is having surgery on Monday!!!! :sad1: The other girl stopped work a week ago, her baby is due. So we have no backup. I don't go back to the dr until the 15th. I have moved him when we had no shows, the 1st time hurt, the other morning was fine, but I was very careful. Trying to get him & Alexis out the door in the morning, is not going to allow me time to be careful. I'm sorry again for whining, but I am literally in tears.

What would possess grown women to strip to the buff in an open room that is between the bathrooms and the changing rooms????????????? !

They walk around the locker room at the gym I go to with the towel they used in the shower in their hand or around their wet head. Hello! I don't want to see that, sometimes it's downright scary! :rotfl: And I sure wouldn't scar people for life like that!

Once I get home tonight I'll tell you all about my fun, busy weekend. Ta ta for now.

I am dying to see it! I don't think we have one free night to see a movie this week, though, darnit.

Could you buy your medication & then submit to the insurance company if/when the approve the medication?

I am :yay: about Emily!!!

Re: medication. I actually did that with the last medication; CVS ordered it for me while the pharmacy/ins company farted around. But, this medication has to be administered initially under the care of a medical personnel - so I'm told - so you can't just walk into a pharmacy and get it.

Some good news, Alexis got the teacher we were hoping for! Also the bus driver is a woman & the bus stop is right next door. Chris will take off Wednesday, put her on the bus & follow her to school to find her class (and carry the all the school supplies!)

I'm glad you are both on the mend - and that her school year is off to a good start!

Are y'all going to the service on Friday? I don't really blame them for wanting to be "legal" before he enlists.

 for your brother.

The kids and I went to the beach today with my dad. It was the perfect place to be...nice ocean breeze and a good haze cover to block the sun.

Lauren -- I hope you had a good day. Sorry about the stove. ;)

Ann -- My computer is an IMac. I wish your SD the best and I hope your brother hears good news.

Maria -- I'm glad Emily made it into the cast. You never said her age, but I would be worried about the location.

My plan of "feeding the boys" seems to be working.

That is a great plan!

Glynis -- Welcome back.

Ellen -- Your celebration sounded fun.

Sheryl -- I am glad you and Alexis are feeling better and that she got the teacher you wanted.

Stephanie -- Hang in there. You'll do okay.

Dinner was burgers, corn on the cob and salad.

Good plan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kyle is going to be one popular guy whose Mom is welcome anytime :thumbsup2

I hope that your aid situation is fixed soon:hug:

:rotfl::rotfl: I never use beer for the chicken. My DS and DDIL are recovering alcoholics and would prefer that I don't cook with alcohol when they are here so I use orange soda. I use a rub and then glaze the chicken with some extra rub mixed in with some of the soda and marmalade. It is a spicy/sweet glaze that is very good.

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

Well Buddy made out okay at the Dr. He said that she rushes him out but not today ;) He does not have any stones which is good and his PSA's are fine. She thinks it may be sciatica. He also has diverticulosis but she doubts that is radiating the pain. He is to go for a colonoscopy to rule it out though.

Once he started discussing the pain, which he tried to say was better it sure sounded like sciatica to me. He drives a truck but is very cramped in the cab so we'll see.

Yes, we are going to the service. It is just going to be all of us, DSS, the ex-wife in law :lmao: with her sister and mother. They are all going out to eat after but we will not be attending due to my in law issues who are going to that. We are taking them out to eat the next day to celebrate.
