The weather - should I be concerned?

Our cruise is just days away..and I am having people comment to me about the weather making sad faces. I know nothing about hurricanes (I do know a lot about earthquakes, unfortunately). I see that the current storm is moving into the Gulf, but yet I saw a live report on the board talking about a different storm. Can someone explain to me how these storms move? We are doing the West Coast trip..and I have never cruised before and have no idea what to expect.

Do things like this move in and out quickly? Should I expect that the weather and seas are going to be rough? I know, nothing I can do about it. I am nervous enough about the trip, and I guess I am trying to focus on what I can expect...

Thanks!

The hurricane you are referring to is Emily. Emily will not be a threat to your cruise. You might experience high seas due to tropical weather. DCL is very careful. We have gone out when a cruise was due to hit within hours. And we have cruised between hurricanes. We have always felt safe.

I doubt you will have very much trouble with Tropical Storms on the West Coast. If you want to keep up as your cruise gets closer, check out http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/index.shtml? and look at the EASTERN Pacific storms. Pretty simply "no storms...no problem" The storm that is currently making the Magic a little rocky is Eugene. Looking at the map, the finger of land you see is Baja California and Cabo San Lucas is the tip. The Magic is currently south and east of Eugene on the Mexican coast. He should be much farther out to sea by the time they head back to LA on Friday so shouldn't cause any problems.

I bet you'll have a MAGICal time and the weather will be wonderful.
