I am a NYer & it has been bitter cold here. My DH & I love watching the Weather Channel & we go on the weather websites often & we notice the weather for FL has been cold.

I would like to know if anyone on the boards are out there now & would like to know their thoughts on the cold. Swimming, ride wait times, are the animals out & any critters?

I hope it warms up before we arrive on Feb 8th.

I'm hoping it warms up by the 26th, or at least stays warm until the 26th, as the temperatures are supposed to be back to normal by Friday (and near 80 degrees Saturday, if you can believe it).

Although the pools are heated to about 85 degrees, I imagine you won't find a lot of people swimming because it would feel so horrible when you get out! All of the local water parks have been closed for about a week, so there wouldn't be any activity there at all.

I would also imagine that ride times wouldn't be significantly affected since most of the lines are inside buildings because of the summer heat. Plus people who are in the parks are bundled up and prepared to be outdoors. It's a slower time of year anyway, so lines should not be bad. I've been to Disney during these kinds of cold snaps before and park attendance and participation weren't affected all that much.

I would also be interested in hearing about the animals at AK and AKL. I would think they would be kept indoors if temperatures were below a certain level, and this past weekend, the temps didn't get out of the mid 40's all day.

I jut heard on my local weather that Orlando had "FLURRIES" yesterday, yikes...

I'm in Disney now. I'm from NH, so I'd like to think I know cold:laughing: I arrived yesterday midday, and I was comfortable/borderline warm in a light long sleeve shirt, light sweatshirt, jeans, and a heavy fleece jacket. The temperature wasn't bad; it was the wind that made it cold. However, as soon as the sun dropped, even I was freezing and had to add gloves, and by the end of the evening in Epcot I felt like a human icicle. Trying to take nighttime pictures was a nightmare because my fingers froze in seconds. I am actually concerned I may have gotten a small patch of frost bite on my face.

The good news? 10 minutes before 9, you could still get a spot ON the rail for Illuminations. Line rides for the headliners were still long (70 min standby for Test Track at 3:50pm, 45 min standby for Soarin virtually all afternoon/evening) most of the day, but I did notice it was extremely easy to walk through World Showcase by about 8pm. I found myself doing all the rides I don't normally do, just to stay warm: Imagination, and the World Showcase boat rides were all walk ons (I had the whole Imagination car to myself) between 6:30 and 8:40. There was also almost no wait for food at the one register they had open at the Liberty Inn in America at 6pm.

I did see one brave soul in the pool yesterday around 3. It should come as no surprise that that was a child, and their (I assume) parents were bundled up on the lounge chairs.

I love Illuminations but even I will probably be skipping it tonight. Windchills are going to not be much warmer, and I can't do that one again. Thankfully it is supposed to get progressively warmer here.

Fox News put up a map a while ago and it had everything west of the Rockies was registering temperates below freezing! That means ALL of Florida, too. Geez.

Temperatures vary so much...odd cold snap right now. Two years ago we were there at the end of February. The first few days it was hot and in the 80s. Then decreased the next couple, and the last day it was in the low 30's in the morning!

Anywho...i wouldn't swim for anything if the temps were anything below 80 with a heated pool. you still have to get out :)

We just returned last night after 5 record breaking cold days at the parks. We were at the Poly, and never saw anyone anywhere near the pools - I can't even imagine. Saturday was damp and uncomfortably cold - the rest of the days were just COLD, altho thurs/Fri not too bad. Saw a few little lizards semi-comatose, poor little guys, and at AK on Sat, a few animals were out when we walked on K. Safari, without any kind of wait. Saw rhinos, a few giraffes in the distance, hippos, and crocs were down low in the water. Too cold to walk around to see other animals though - we stuck to the inside events - Fest of LK, Nemo, etc.
As far as crowds - I think it cut down on the early morning and evening crowds quite a bit.
Seemed like most, if not all, water rides were all shut down, and some of the outside shows were cancelled.
