(I tried to post this a while ago, but it was right when the board was going down for maintenance. So I will try again, and hopefully it won't result in a double post!)
I had those certain books in the old days that I drew on. You don't realize something's value - either monetary or personal - when you are however old I was when I was drawing! But once I got into the late '80s and '90s, I was collecting several hardback versions of cool Disney books (not everything - only the ones that appealed to me). Some of them have been updated now and the cover artwork has changed but they are still sold in some version or another, and others have disappeared (maybe someone has them on Ebay?).
I have a feeling you have probably seen or heard of most of the books I bought ages ago, but just in case you haven't and want to look for something specific online or in an old book store, the old ones I got and really like are:
- Encyclopedia of Walt Disney's Animated Characters (love it; out of date)
- Walt Disney's Treasury of Children's Classics (out of date)
- Walt Disney's Treasury of Cartoon Classics
- The Illustrated Treasury of Disney Songs (outdated!)
- The New Illustrated Disney Songbook
- The Disney Villain (awesome)
- Disney's Storybook Collection
- Disney's Family Story Collection
- The Disney that Never Was (great for Disneyland buffs)
- The Art of Mickey Mouse (great book - can't recommend it highly enough - includes an illustration of Mickey Mouse and Snoopy together done by Charles Schulz; can't beat that!)
- The Disney Poster: From Mickey Mouse to Aladdin (whew! That's out of date too! Great pictures, though!)
- Walt Disney World - 20 Magical Years (outdated!)
- Disneyland (that is the only title)
- Disneyland - Dreams, Traditions and Transitions
And those are the most interesting ones. There's also a Winnie the Pooh Treasury, but can't remember the exact title of it.
But in any case, no collection is complete without the Disneyland Encyclopedia, for pete's sake. I MUST have it! But I must wait a few months for the Fun Card!
I recently found my Disneyland planning book from 1990. Talk about a flash from the past. So, my daughters and I started a pre-trip report. The thread is in my signature now.
Wow you have plenty of books !!
I'm really interested in The Disney Villain, The Art of Mickey Mouse, and The Disney Poster: From Mickey Mouse to Aladdin. Very cool sounding![]()
I need to focus on collecting one thing at a time![]()
First the vinylmation figures, then books! You can imagine the frenzy I was in while collecting books and watches and magnets die cast attraction figures and all kinds of other Disney stuff back in the old days. Too much cute or interesting stuff to handle! The money practicaly jumped out of my wallet and into Disney's hands!![]()
Funny - those three books you said you are the most interested in are the ones I suspected you would be most interested in!! I had a feeling. The Art of Mickey Mouse paperback version was sold in Disneyana for a while. I didn't look to see if they were still selling it last year. It would be worth it just to flip through it so you can see the different artists' renderings of Mickey Mouse. It is really cool. But I do love The Disney Villain and The Disney Poster - as well as the Disney that Never Was and The Encyclopedia of Walt Disney Characters - a lot. Great books, outdated or not! Now I just have to get the Disneyland Encyclopedia and I will feel complete.
I am - and this will sound weird - glad in a way that I stopped collecting Disney stuff avidly a long time ago - when there was no money to do so anymore. I was starting in with the pin craze, but fortunately stopped myself before I got carried away with pins. Can you imagine the temptation I would be facing now, with ALL the pins that come out constantly? I would never be able to handle them all.

You know the frist trip we went on that I saw the pins I went crazy. Then last time I got three pins. I have to control myself. Next trip there is going to be money set aside for me to buy the kitchen stuff I want. I love the Mickey Mouse kitchen pieces I have seen.
I'm taking my time on collecting pins and I'm only selecting ones that I absolutely want. The last time I was there (with the exception of the vinylmation pins), I only bought 3 pins that I wanted.
If those books are at DLR, I might just get them. I'll have the fun card anyway and Eric did give me disney dollars that I will have to spend![]()
Oh I knowww. Kaycee bought me a black & white pitcher shaped like the classic mickey head, black & white salt & pepper shakers, and I bought the mickey apron with my name on it (I bought one for Kaycee too)
Question...do they put the name on for you? That would be kind of a cute gift for my Kacy and Kody if I could get their names spelled right on it.
I just referred someone over in a Character Meal thread over here to your Trip Report, to look at all your pictures from Minnie and Friends. I was trying to remember all the characters I have heard of being there (seeing that I never ate there myself), and I couldn't recall if Mariezp had gone to Minnie's in her TR, so your Trip Report was the first one I thought of where I knew for sure you guys had done the Minnie's character meal!!![]()

YEs. I'm not ure if it is only temporary, but towards the back of the clothiers on main street they were doing stitching to what you ask for specifically. I'll take a picture of it and post it up as soon as I can. They charge though!
