I know nothing about this movie...but

DD14 is very excited:) Gave her the book for Christmas.

Ever since I saw the preview months and months ago I wondered why they are using an 11 or so year old song (The Smashing Pumpkins).

Well, yes. It is usually heartening when you can pull scenes right out of the source material and find them in the preview, but then it is so easy to screw up a movie based on a graphic novel...or on any novel for that matter.

dont know if this is why or not but the story is set in 1985, sort of an alternate 1985.

We attended the panel on this movie at Comic Con last summer and have been counting down the days! Looks awesome.

Is this movie actually going to be released? As I understand it, the studio that made the movie does not own the rights to the movie, and the studio that owns the rights may try to block the release. I want to say the two studios involved are 20th Century Fox and Warner Brothers, but I don't remember off the top of my head.

This looks too cool!

One funny thing: when my sister and I saw Jeffery Dean Morgan in one of the online ads she was "Denny!" to my "John Winchester!"

I must be one of the only people that's wary about how well the movie will be done. Yeah, the visuals look great. Hell, some of them look like panels from the book come to life. I'm more concerned with how well written, acted, and directed the movie is.

I dunno, I'm just not convinced Zach Snyder is the right director. Some of the scenes in the trailers bother me -- the slow-motion turn Silk Spectre does and the Comedian flying out the window in slow-motion give me pause, like they're going for more visual flash over substance. Also, there's the shot of Nite Owl's flying kick (again with a bit of slow-mo). That shot looks like it's part of Rorschach's prison break scene in movie present-day 1985. Umm, at that time Nite Owl had been retired for 8 years and had developed a middle-age paunch. He can still fight but NOT a stunt like that.

Don't get me wrong, I'm planning on going to see it. I just don't feel as excited or as hopeful for this movie as I was for the first Spider-Man movie, Batman Begins, or Iron Man.

the dispute was settled monday with fox getting a piece of the action. the movie will open as scheduled.

I have the utmost confidense in Snyder. I've seen and read so many interviews with him where he proves his knowlege of the source material that he has quelled my fears.

Of course from what I read you won't see the "complete" film until it's released on DVD. The studios have cut it down to just over two hours but the director's cut Snyder said is going to clock in closer to four hours!!!

I know they changed the ending a little...but from what I read it actually sounds better to me than the squid...lol

The thing I'm most excited about for this movie is that they are not trying to make it look like a tweens kind of movie like they did with Dark Knight. Watchmen is very dark and violent and PG-13 would not do it justice.

The director's cut sounds more like it!! Honestly, I don't see how they're going to fit everything in 2 hours -- the flashbacks, "The Black Freighter" narrative (which I believe I've heard will be a DVD extra), and most of the appendices from the book are integral to the story.

I could accept some of the cuts they have to make. I've accepted long ago not to expect a 100% faithful adaptation of a comic book from Hollywood, although they've come pretty damn close in recent years and I've learned not to sweat some of the details. Wolverine is something like 5'2" in the comics and Hugh Jackman isn't; Spider-Man uses mechanical web shooters for webbing he created, not organic webbing. Some fans complained, but I thought the stories and portrayals more than made up for these changes.

Thing is, different writers and artists have had different takes on Batman, Spider-Man, the X-Men, and others. There is only one version of the characters in "Watchmen" and only one story about them. Maybe that's why I'm cautious and a little pessimistic about the movie.

PK, can you PM me some links to interviews with Snyder? I just found one with Jeffrey Dean Morgan on MTV where he talks about the rape scene. I hate to say this about a rape scene, but the interview has me a little more hopeful that the movie will be faithful.

close to release now so lets BUMP this and see it more people respond

So I tell my mom I'm thinking I'm arranging a group outing of our friends to see a movie coming out in IMAX.

Her: Oh, what movie?

Me: Ummm...it's called Watchmen...you've probably seen previews on TV

Her: Oh, I know all about that. It's got Hugh Jackman running around with knives or something. I have no interest in that.

Me: No, mom, that's Wolverine...which is also coming out soon.

Her: Is that who Hugh Jackman is then? The Wolverine.

Me: Yes, mom, but he's not in the movie.

Her: But I thought he was one of the Watchmen or something.

Me: No, he's in X-Men, mom. Totally different comic.

Her: Oh?

Me: (explains the basic plot of Watchmen and how it's much more of a socio-political thriller than a traditional comic book hero story)

Her: Well that doesn't sound like anything I'd be interested in at all.

:sad2:

i get that a lot when i say, its about these super hero's that dont for the most part have any powers and nobody wants around and if you spent any time with them you would think you were in a group therapy session and by the way Nixon is in his 5th term and was with one of these guys help responsible for JFK's assassination...........................................................................................................................:scared1:

Ever since I saw the preview months and months ago I wondered why they are using an 11 or so year old song (The Smashing Pumpkins).

I think that's a great song for the preview. They go together really well in my opinion.

I'd never even heard of Watchmen before I saw the trailer, but I'm very excited to see it. It looks really cool, visually.

i believe that song was also used in "batman and robin" one of the more forgetable comic films.
