Woo Hoo - I am finally caught up. :wave2: Thanks to TruBlu ;) I have officially joined the Walking Dead Fandom. OK, maybe not that extreme, but I am really enjoying the show :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I have been reading this thread but only up to the point that corresponded with the episode I was watching. I wanted so much to add my comments about an episode only to realize that I was reading posts from 2011 ;) :lmao:

Add me to the Daryl fanclub too. I have my little Daryl and RV Walker vinyls that I picked up at Hot Topic last weekend while my kids were checking out the Doctor Who items.

Ugh..I hate having to wait until Sunday for the next episode now!!

:woohoo:

One thing I've been thinking about is the lack of children zombies. Really, the only kids I can recall seeing are the girl in the first episode who picks up the doll (which if you think about it, is extremely un-zombie like... zombies in the first season twisted door knobs and picked things up, but zombies now just walk dumbly, bang on doors, and get caught in traps), the governor's daughter, and Sophia. I was thinking this might be because children are somewhat defenseless, so rather than just getting bitten, they were eaten alive. Which also makes me question Sophia's death... how was she not eaten alive? She was defenseless. I wonder if she died because zombie bite/scratch or if she was shot in the woods, too, like Carl. Goodness, I think too much into this.

My theory about the walkers is that in the beginning the virus wasn't as potent (for lack of a better word) and they retained some human like qualities. At least thats what i tell myself lol.

As far as the children, i am not sure but i just wonder how any human is not eaten alive when attacked. My thinking is to get away you need another persons help and if another person was around why did they not put you down.

I am going to join the "i think too much about TWD club" too.

Sophia was bitten. You can see the bite between her shoulder and neck, and there's blood all over the back of her t-shirt. I remember on Talking Dead that night they said that they put the bite towards the back of her shoulder/neck so it looked like she was grabbed by a walker from behind. She never saw it coming. :scared:

They also said that Madison Lintz, who plays Sophia was a real trouper doing the makeup - all of the walkers have to rinse with this mouthwash to make their teeth look rotted that tastes really nasty, but they made hers candy-flavored so it wasn't so bad.

There's a behind-the-scenes clip of the barn scene here (which also has Norman calling one of the walkers the "Bride of Frankenstein" :rotfl: ): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaKNtt8WVFc

That's a good point about kids being so small that they make more of a meal than a snack for the walkers. Sounds like it makes sense.

I believe Kirkman addressed this on Talking Dead. Or maybe twitter. I can't remember where. He mentioned that the dead people in the cars could have suffered head trauma in the car accident which caused them not to turn.

I haven't paid alot of attention to the cars to notice if they appeared damaged. I'm typically watching to see if any of these people move.

I suppose that makes sense. And yes, not paying much attention to condition, but it looked to me like most of them were just stopped on the road, since they were walking between the cars. But I will stop overthinking it now. That's what I get for rewatching LOL.

walkers m not have the manual dexterity to unbuckle.:rotfl:

That was awesome Jen, thanks!

My guess is, although gruesome, that most of the children were eaten alive. They likely didn't have the strength to fight off an attack and escape. I suppose a few, like Sophia, were able to get away after being bitten.

Since they found the doll by the river, I wonder if she was bit there but was able to get away when the walker got stuck in the mud.

Ooh - that's a possibility.

I think I would rather just be eaten alive by zombies than take a bite and slowly turn.

It's weird, though, if you think about it. Our teeth aren't meant to tear into human flesh. I guess they could, but our minds just won't let us do it. I have heard (though not sure I believe it), that biting through a pinky finger is just like biting a baby carrot, but your mind won't let you. But the zombies - one bite, and their teeth sink in.

.

Sadly, I think in reality, I might be one of those people that ends my own life, rather then wait to die that way. I almost always feel that way, when I watch Zombie shows. Like 28 days later, I almost always find myself thinking is it worth fighting that hard for? Good thing it's not reality LOL, or I'd be in trouble. Not sure I could take my own life though either, I am kindof a wuss.

I'm thankful there are not a lot of kids in this ZA. It's so depressing. I was cringing when Daryl and Maggie went into the daycare center for formula because I was afraid they'd see little zombabies in the cribs.

That does make sense. Without the thought process of what they are doing, the instinct would just take over.
I do seem to notice a lot of ripping and tearing, both with teeth and hands also. So they might not be biting through bone too much.

 Sometimes I can't believe what I have the ability to discuss about this show (both online and at home with DH) :rotfl2:

I'm not sure what I would do. If it were just me, then my will to survive might kick in. But if it were me and my kids, and they had already been killed/turned, then I would check out for sure ;)

Ohhhh, I was the same way. As soon as I saw where they were, I was saying "please don't let there be a bunch of zombie kids in there."

One thing I don't understand is why Herschel wants to go on the run. He has said it a few times. I know the prison in compromised thanks to the gov, but can't they secure it again. They did it once. They have shelter, food etc. What will they have on the run? A life of fear and constantly looking over their shoulders, scrounging for food, hopping from place to place. Not to mention, how far can they get? They will eventually run out of gas or the cars will break down etc. Where can they go? You would think they would want to "settle" somewhere safe, like the prison, or a woodbury-type zone.

For some reason Herschel (who is the one who can't really run) wants to take his chances outside the prison.

There was one other child, the Governers daughter. I'm guessing he got to her before they had a chance to rip her apart. Do we know if she was bit, or died of another cause?

My DH (who would be excellent in a zombie apocalypse) says that they would be CRAZY to leave the prison, since prisons are specifically designed to keep people apart and safe, are highly defensible, and are literally fortresses. The hardest part would be going out on restocking runs, but they have enough room inside the fences to start gardens, raise some livestock, etc, in the hopes of eventually becoming largely self sustaining.

Better a prison than one of these underground bunkers that survivalists keep building! I would go crazy underground for an extended period of time, but could easily stay in a prison....

Yeah, I listed the Governor's daughter. They never said how she died - or else I don't remember it. But there was that book that Andrea opened with her name written down over and over again, which I'm guessing has something to do with her life or life (or lack of) as a zombie.

I'm thinking the show might get a little boring if all the zombies are kept at bay and the only battle is with the Governor. Out of the prison anything can and will happen, i.e. zombies, perhaps other survivors, towns, etc.

Noting that the TV series is not following the comic fully -- in the comic series, Penny is shot by an armed gang and dies. I am assuming she turns into a walker at that point. This is prior to The Governor getting to Woodbury and becoming "The Governor". I don't think the TV series is going to get into his background like the comic and novel did.

Hi, everyone!

I'm a moderator over on the Disneyland/California section of this board but every now and then I will wander over to the Just for Fun forum to see what people are discussing. I had no clue that this thread existed until a couple of days ago!:cool1: The other day, after watching an episode of TWD, I was thinking about it and pondering certain scenarios that may or may not play out, and I thought, I wonder if there is a Walking Dead thread on the DIS?

And that's how I found you!

Oh, and by the way, I took the quiz on the AMC site and I'm Dale!:rotfl2: Actually, that's a pretty fair assessment. I tried to answer as honestly and as realistically as possible, being true to who I am, and the fact that I turned out to be Dale is not shocking to me. I would probably try to be the voice of reason, and then would end up as zombie chow in the end.

Anyway, I don't know if this has already been asked (I've only gone back about 5 or 6 pages in the thread), so forgive me if I'm covering old territory. I've also read the plot lines/outlines of the comics and have seen how different the TV show is in comparison. I don't know if I missed something somewhere along the way.

What I wonder is, does anyone think that we will see Morgan again (dead or alive)? The Governor is aware that Rick took back a lot of guns, as we learned, so he also must know that Morgan is there. Even though Morgan is only one lone guy, clearly he had a lot of weapons and it seems like that would be a threat to the Governor, or that the Governor would want to steal whatever weapons he had left. At the very least, it seems like the Governor would want to control who is alive and who is not.

Is it likely that the Governor's men would have gone in and killed Morgan (or maybe kidnapped him and taken him to Woodbury) after Rick and company left Morgan's compound?

One other thing - I don't know if there are any Howard Stern Show listeners out there, but this morning Robin Quivers was vehemently complaining about the last 2 episodes of TWD and how they seemed to be "filler" episodes. Howard and everyone else disagreed with her (they think it's the best season of TWD so far), but Robin held strong in her complaints. She said that she thought it was silly and unrealistic (I'm paraphrasing; that's not a direct quote) that Michonne went in to get the picture for Carl. She also thought it was silly that Rick would sit there, face to face, with the Governor for so long when he should have just killed him on the spot because the Governor can't be trusted.

Howard said they can't kill the Governor yet because "they have to have a show," meaning they have to have something to put in the episodes to draw the season out, unlike a movie where they can end it early.

Robin also thought that Michonne should have pushed the Governor's daughter on him to kill him when she had the chance.:rotfl2:

I do think we'll see Morgan again. However, I'm hoping for a more positive outcome... perhaps Morgan will come to his senses and go looking for Rick.

Yeah, I disagree about them being filler episodes, though they are less action-packed than the rest. I disagree about it being silly for Michonne to get the picture for Carl. It shows that she does care about people, not just about killing the governor. It was a smart move on her part. Also, Michonne is a bada** and can take on tons of zombies at a time so we've learned, so I don't think she really felt like she was putting herself in great danger by going in there. And bringing back that funky artwork was silly... but it was funny and kind of gave her a personality besides that quite, seemingly coldhearted person that she appears to be.

Rick isn't a killer. It was so difficult for him to kill Shane - he should have done it long before he did. No matter how terrible someone is, he waits until they put a gun to his head before he kills them. And if he had just killed the governor, what would've happened outside? He wasn't about to put Hershel and Daryl in trouble.

Howard said they can't kill the Governor yet because "they have to have a show," meaning they have to have something to put in the episodes to draw the season out, unlike a movie where they can end it early.

I agree with that. The governor should've died long ago.

Robin also thought that Michonne should have pushed the Governor's daughter on him to kill him when she had the chance.:rotfl2:

Ha - I wish she had, though I don't think that would've worked. The little girl, despite being a zombie, didn't have very much strength. Michonne was easily constraining her with little effort by holding her head. The governor had been handling her for a long time and wouldn't have let her bite him.
