The walking dead amc #2

You are so right on all this, for a character of this magnitude, it definitely had shock factor but it was very quick plus TD with absolutely no cast from the show and not one thing in the "In Memoriam" sequence raised more questions.

In my mind though, TWD has always been realistic with character deaths where they just can't come back, let's say by a dream sequence or some miracle.

This character surviving a mass herd of hungry walkers because another human falls on top would not be very realistic....the zombies would not just be focused on the one body especially with this character's head in full view and the screaming.

Chances of this character surviving this magnitude of walkers would make me doubt the writers because character deaths, although not wanted by fans, were very believable in that particular situation.

I am hoping it's not real but then again, if it's not, I will be disappointed the show would go that way.....

This is exactly what I thought. But still...not sure one could survive after they are done eating the other dude.

I agree.I may change my tune next week, but I cannot see an out for Glenn that isn't lame and ruins the show a bit. How can you be in a herd that large and get away. He could never use a body as.a shield or get away from that many. Might as well tell us laurie's death was a dream sequence and bring her back because that would be just about as realistic. I hate to see him go, but they did it all wrong if it is a teaser. Way too unbelievable. I will be either very disappointed or very shocked if they say he didn't die. I hope it is the latter, but just can't see how.

The only thing I could see was mentioned earlier. In an earlier season, they covered themselves in Walker gore. If he is under Nicholas and was covered in blood and guts maybe that would do it but that is a pretty big stretch.

So, only 2 more episodes and we have to take a huge break till January? Ugh, that is ridiculous. It just started!!!

I think there are three more. This was episode 5 for the season so we still have 6, 7 and 8 before the mid-season break (returns Feb 14th).

After the initial shock wore off I kept analyzing and think he's alive but can't fathom how he gets out. I was rewatching the scene just for their outfits. I thought it was the jacket shown until I rewatched to see it's the tshirts so have to replay to compare tshirt colors. I think i've seen a pic with the answer.
I just kept thinking that he's too big of a character to be a residual kill. I'd want to think he'd be considered "unkillable" but don't think he is or hasn't recently. I want a bigger death for him that's clearly his death.

So glad to find the thread as I didn't want to go hunt down for a new forum

I need to rewatch because I always miss stuff the first time, but... remember when Michonne pauses when she & the other guy (I can't keep all the new people straight) are finally back on their way? Wasn't she thinking about Glenn? The main characters usually trust their instincts. And sometimes scenes are shown not in time-sequential order. So does anyone think that some combination of Glenn being under Nicolas & covered in guts, the nearby dumpster and Michonne going to find him could be possible? Or was I totally not following/not paying enough attention to what was happening? Or maybe wishful thinking a way out out the death...

When they got to the stream and looked back and didn't see smoke, they knew that Glenn/Nicholas did not get the fire started. I thought at that time that she was going to go back looking for him but she continued on with the other two, right? But I think she may end up going back to look for him.

The other thing I realized was that the way the walkers were eating him was completely different that they usually show. Walkers do not grab people apart with their hands, they lead with their faces! Every time I can recall a bunch of them around someone on the ground, they are leaning down with their butts in the air eating-they do not use their arms to pull pieces of "food off the buffet" so to speak-LOL. Why all of a sudden would these walkers behave differently? The only reason I can think of is that they had to show it this way to have an out for Glenn. There would be no other way to make it appear they were dining directly on him without him actually being eaten.

I think that goes back to the discussion that sometimes you have no choice but to leave someone behind.

can someone please explain why they don't put people out of their misery when they are being eaten. I'm thinking of the beige guy that was bitten earlier in the episode and then eaten at the fence. how hard would it have been to put a bullet in his head instead of letting him get eaten alive.

I was thinking the same thing. Also the woman that sprained her ankle. I think the reasoning is that the noise of the gunshot would draw even more walkers.

I said the same thing to my husband while watching that scene. They all just stood there watching the poor guy get eaten alive while randomly shooting a walker. Couldn't they have shot the poor guy and taken him out of his misery?

A couple of my theories on Glenn still being alive:

1) the placement of his "death" within the episode. It happened at 45 minutes in, per my DVR (that includes commercials). ALL of the other major character deaths (Shane, Lori, Dale, Andrea, Noah, Hershel, Beth, Tyrese, Bob, heck even Sophia!) all happened at the very end of those episodes. There is no way they would kill him off like that.

2) this season (so far) has been all about jumping around in the time sequences. His death scene may have been out of sequence.

3) Enid (I know, I know I've been pretty firm in my beliefs that she has Judith and is the wolf-spy). However, now that I'm processing things - we are to assume she left Alexandria based on the note she left Carl (CORAL!!! LOL!). Maybe, just maybe she rescues Glenn (not sure how), BUT Katelyn Nacon (the actress who plays Enid) said on the Talking Dead last week that when we do see Enid again we'd be pleasantly surprised.

4) Glenn has been able to Macgyver himself out of a lot of close calls. I have a feeling he's got this.

5) the dumpster is right there! I do believe that what we see in that scene is Nicholas, not Glenn getting ripped apart. Plus why are no walkers attacking Glenn's face?

6) as many of you have mentioned the whole Talking Dead show afterwards: Steven Yeun not there in person, Glenn not being included in the "In Memoriam" segment, Scott Gimples' statement, and no one directly attached to the show was there. We had Yvette Nicole Brown (who I love! And OMG, the things she catches and her thoughts about the show are just unreal!), and Damon L from LOST. Why was no one from the show on TDD, especially when you have such a major, beloved character that just "died"?

7) this was also mentioned several times up thread. No closure for his character or the others? So we are just led to believe that Glenn was gobbled up and never to be heard from again? Again, such an injustice to Steve, Glenn, the other characters, and the fans.

8) We know Rick is close by in the RV. What we don't know is where in the timeline related to Glenn's death did Rick shoot through the RV at the wolves that were on the side of the RV. That gunfire could draw the herd of walkers away from Glenn (who I say is under the dumpster).

Last night was so stressful! I woke up this morning like I had been out on an all night bender. My head hurt, my neck hurt and my shoulders hurt. Lol!

Did anyone notice Greg Nicotero as a walker last night? He was one of the dumpster walkers. This would be the 5th time he has "guest starred" as a walker.

This is funny but not funny, on Twitter last night several people were saying that Glenn's death scene was being watched more times than the Zapruder Film for clues.

Anyway, I'm hoping and praying that Glenn is still alive like the rest of you!

Did Glen put the watch from Hershel in his backpack? I think he is gone. I think Maggie is pregnant and that is the piece of Glenn that will live on. I think someone will find the backpack with his things in it.

That is what I am thinking /hoping for. I never wanted to see glen go, but even him covering himself in gutts ( that's what I was thinking they should do while on the dumpster. Why don't any of them go back to that strategy. ..even in the pet store they could have done that with the ones they killed inside.) Or somehow making his way to the dumpster is unbelievable. Way too many walkers and no way he doesn't take some kind of unintentional bite. Now if he gets it in the leg or arm and self amputates maybe then I'll buy it, but otherwise no.

Yeah, they were completely surrounded by a huge herd of walkers, if he gets out alive, it will be a stretch. I still think he is alive though.

I thought the same thing and just had to say you're referring to him as the "beige guy" made me lol. My daughter did that when she was little, depending on what people were wearing. It did make for a few awkward moments!

You mean completely surrounded like Rick in the tank? Or Darryl and Aaron in the car? Or (insert hopeless scenario here)... I think they could show him crawling under the dumpster (if it's one of the ones on wheels) while the herd is feasting on Nicholas.
