I thought the discussion about the two groups on TTD was interesting last night. Kirkman said that if he had been telling the story of Negan all along, instead of Rick, when Rick showed up everyone would hate him. The two groups really are the same. We've come to like our group and accept what they have had to do to survive, but they have done awful things as well...things that are morally questionable.
I said almost the exact same thing to my DD last night before Talking Dead started when she said she doesn't think she will like Negan. I hope we get flashbacks on how Saviours and Negan came together.
I agree with others that the show was sort of bleh. I think if they would have made it an hour, it would have been much better and wouldn't have had so much of them just driving around.
As far as the cliffhanger, well shows having been doing that for ages, of course I would have liked to know who got Luicelled, plus the hiatus for this show is much longer than regular shows. So I think a cliffhanger of this magnitude may backfire on them as people may just lose interest after having to wait 6 months. I do wonder if possibly Dwight got Lucielled, of course wishful thinking on my part, but you never know.
I just have to mention I thought the scene between Eugene and Abraham was just awesome, I literally had a lump in my throat watching it. It really would have been a homerun if they would have let Eugene come through instead of being captured, but unfortunately I'm not a writer of the show lol.
Not Dwight as he is a big part in the coming story, in the comics. But who knows, as a certain main character was dead long ago in the comics and others who are dead lived longer (Andrea).
Because of that scene with Abe and Eugene, I thought one of them got Lucille'd. Seemed foreshadowing. Maybe the writers attempted to leave all these clues so we are unsure who got killed or we are thinking it's the obvious when it's not (hello to my Maggie theory).
This is exactly my thought. Negan said that he was going to give someone a beat down with Lucille. He also mentioned he wanted to keep them alive to work for him. I think it's entirely possible whoever gets the bat could survive. I think its only been assumed the person will die because that's how it goes in the comics.
I thought the actor playing Negan did great. On TD, they described Negan as both evil and charismatic, and he definitely came off as charismatic.
I read some theories on who could have been on the receiving end of the bat. All of this is pure speculation, no spoilers because it's not based on anything factual to do with the show:
1. Glenn - some viewer played back the moment and said you could hear Glenn yelling "Mag" or "Maggie" and you can hear Maggie screaming the loudest. I haven't tried playing it back yet so don't know how plausible this is. Also
we know that it's Glenn who dies this way in the comics
2. Daryl - lots of speculation on this before the episode, he's not in the comics so no one knows how/if he will die, and he's been working on other projects outside TWD so it's possible he's moving on in his real life.
3. Abraham - this is my guess. He had that foreshadowing with those Sasha and Eugene moments. Also, Negan appears to be somewhere in the middle of the lineup when he chooses his victim which you can tell by the RV behind him. He seems to be to Rick's right, which means Aaron and Carl are safe (they were on the left). Abraham was to Rick's almost immediate right I believe, so the placement was right. Glenn and Daryl were further down the line, I believe. Also, the guy who plays Eugene tweeted to the guy who plays Abraham "its been a pleasure working with you" and the guy who plays Abraham re-tweeted it, and then immediately deleted it. This is what I've read, not sure if it's true. Also
Abraham's comic death was given to Denise, so it would make sense to give him this dramatic scene instead.
But again, its entirely possible this person survives. I wonder how Morgan/Carol and those two men with the horses will come into all of this as well.

I don't think there is any chance that the person on the receiving end will live. His norm is to kill one person to let everyone know he means business and he's not about to change that this time around. Especially after they killed so many of his men. And that very last loud crunch when the bat hit sounded pretty fatal. I have no idea who it's going to be but I'm thinking they may stick true to the comics here.
The foreshadowing with Eugene and Abraham had me wondering if it would be Eugene though. Especially since he made a point of giving his bullet recipe to Rick. But it's possible they are just trying to throw us off so it's a complete shock when we find out who it was.
After they explained that it was supposed to show the "fall of Rick" I thought it made perfect sense. But I know you and me appreciate the slowness and lack of action in the show
I'm not surprised they did it like that. And despite my major Negan anxiety, I thought Denny played him perfectly. It was the only time during the whole episode I could really look at the screen!
Eta- don't know him from the comics, but I really liked him as a character. So maybe he doesn't match the comic guy, but I don't care about that, haha
My DH thinks that the cast probably doesn't know who was killed. They can't accidently reveal it during an interview if they don't know. Maybe they filmed 4 or 5 different people being killed...
The cast definitely doesn't know. TD made that pretty clear, unless I misunderstood. And I think that's part of the reason why all the actors are so upset... They're still waiting just like we are!

I believe you are right. Lauren Cohan said something to that effect in her interview. That they were all waiting to find out who it was. I was expecting some crazy upsetting disturbing kill because of the way they were all so upset about it, but now I can understand how this would be so upsetting for them as well. They know someone died a gruesome death, but won't know until they start filming next season which one of them is gone.
Lauren Cohen said something like, "we are all waiting to see what happens next when we go back to filming" when talking about the cast and the new season. They were talking about how this death will create new stories. She could have just meant that they are waiting to see where the story goes once they get the scripts, not who was killed.
I had heard rumors of the cast not knowing, filming multiple endings so they don't know etc. But I also heard those were fake rumors so who knows.
One thing I am wondering is how they mobilized all those people and blocked the road with the trees/walkers. How did they know ricks group would be out there and that guy they killed was part of the library group....so was it just a coincidence?
I thought this as well. How did Negans group know Rick and group would be out galavanting around and where they were headed? I think Negans group is so big, they had enough people to block every way out. Also, maybe they guessed they were heading to the hilltop people. They were obviously playing with them and taunting them.
I was also wonder how he has so many people and Ricks group never ran into them before.
Yes they were there, on their knees, totally invested in the scene. All the guest on TD were very complimentary on how the entire cast acted this scene, even when they were off camera.
As for all the driving around, that was part of the build-up. It was to show Rick and the rest that it didn't matter where they went or how they tried to get to the Hilltop, Negan's group was always a step ahead and to totally destroy their own self-confidence in what they were doing.
I personally enjoyed the episode. I like the suspense from being road blocked everywhere. You know they were being hunted and corralled. It was a game of cat and mouse. The suspense was building throughout the show. I kinda figured it would be that way....long, slow, suspenseful until the end. Seeing Rick's transformation from a confident leader to a scared "prisoner" was awesome. Each time they showed him, the more deflated/scared he became. It was brilliant. That whole final scene with Negan was fantastic. He gave me chills. Looking forward to more of his character and conflict next season. (I do wish we would have seen who was Luceilled though.)
Morgan and Carol was ok to me too. Carol is just broke inside. Then to have Morgan actually kill someone to save her, when he didn't believe in killing...pretty powerful to me. And the group that saved them, I can't wait to see where that goes. I was like "Sir Lanclot!" lol
Wow - OK, not what I was expecting. Wasn't Jeffrey Dean Morgan bigger before? I guess I just haven't seen him lately but it seems like he has lost so much weight. I was expecting Negan to be much bigger (physically).
My thoughts about the episode:
1) Total waste of a 90 minute episode. Didn't need all the driving around. It was obvious after the first stop that they were being watched and weren't going to be able to just drive through. By the second stop, turn around and go home to regroup. Or go back to the first route (with much smaller group) and take them out.
2) I'm pretty sure based on Negan's comment about Carl's eye that both Carl and Rick are fine.
3) They seemed to set us up with a goodbye to Eugene so I wouldn't be surprised to see that it was him.
4) They also seemed to set us up to have Sasha die. I think Abraham rising up to take the beating will be what saved him. But I can see him being mentally destroyed by having Sasha die after the talk about wanting a future with her.
5) It could also be Glenn or Maggie for the same reasons others have already stated.
6) The comment about beating someone (rather than saying he was going to kill someone) leaves it open for no one to die. I'm still thinking someone did, but the bone crunching could have been an arm or leg. Total longshot, but we have seen other longshots before (Glenn and dumpster).
7) I think the ending was too much of a cliffhanger knowing we have to wait until October. I think it would have been OK for a mid-season finale but I think they should have given us who was killed at the end and left us waiting for the aftermath next season.
8) I sure hope Carl told someone that he locked poor Enid in the closet.
I don't think their being there for the filming necessarily has anything to do with the person who was killed. They could have filmed that scene and still kept "the chosen one" a secret.
I don't think it matters who was there for the filming of finale because they never showed a single hit on the person him/herself. It was all just sound effects. I don't think the cast will know who it is until they film the actual beating of the person next season.
Wasn't too impressed by the episode. Do wonder how large the Saviors group is as they knew they were coming and blocked all possible pathways. Either they have people watching in the woods (or cameras), or a spy within the walls. Assuming they're also using radios to communicate. Do wonder why they never bugged the Alexsndria group before, assuming they've known about them for a long time. Also wonder how the Saviors were assembled. Background history would be nice.
The guys on horses helping Morgan and Carol might be interesting. Curious about them.
Why is the guy that they beat and hung called the Librarian? And which group is he from?
Done with the Carol storyline. Let's just kill her. Her characters gone downhill.
Liked Eugine stepping up to drive the RV. They captured him and met up with Rick and Co pretty quickly. The whistling reminded me of the Hunger Games, lol.
