The "WAH! I need a vacation but we can't afford it" thread....

I'm feeling sorry for myself today. Dh & I really need a vacation. If we only had $$$ to just take off............

I would love a WDW vacation but right now don't really want to spend that kind of money. We are tentatively planning on going in the spring of 2004. I'll join in with you! Let the pity party begin!!!

Wah wah and wah!!!!

We have no vacations planned INDEFINITELY!

I was supposed to go to Disney a couple of weeks ago by myself, but I had to cancel at the last minute. I have $150 airfare credit that I'll probably never use...

We just remodeled our bathroom, that ended up costing double of what we thought it would.

I have two sons in college and in less than two years I'll have my daughter in too. We are trying to get to the last graduation without any debt. Vacations have to be put on the back burner unless a bundle of cash falls from the sky. It's looking like 5 or 6 more years?!?!? How in Gods name can I wait for Disney THAT long?!

Wah!

(I AM grateful my DH is employed, my kids are doing well, I have a roof over my head and all that other good stuff. I just miss Disney!)

L4M, there's no reason why you should have to continue to sacrifice for your adult children. Kids pay for their own educations these days, and they're better people for doing it. Help them out until they get on their feet and qualify for loans, and then let them grow up. I mean that in the nicest way.

Well, we aren't even footing the whole bill Doc. We're splitting it three ways. Their Father and I and them. My kids are paying for 1/3, which means they have to work and will have student loans to pay off when they're finished. Without our help they couldn't go at all. We are paying around $10,000 between the two of them per year. It's our own fault for not saving earlier. DD wants to go to a private college and the cost will be much higher than a State school.

My oldest son, living on his own for a year and fully emancipated, applied for financial aid. Because he made over $9,000, he did not qualify for any aid except student loans. If he didn't work at all he would have been better off. They also would only allow him $2,600 total in loans for the year. Next year it will be $3,500. I really don't know how kids with no help from parents or no scholarships do it.

The real kicker is, if I hadn't remarried, they'd all be getting full financial aid and paying around $1000 a year total! I'm glad I married my husband but I sometimes think we should have waited a few more years...

I had to cancel a planned trip for nov 2001, nov 2002
and now I have AP rates at all star music for feb 2003 which i am sure I will end up cancelling
so WAH double WAH
I just want to go to disney world
I don't think that is to much to ask for
I haven't had a vacation in 1 1/2 yrs
both DH & I work full time and we really need a vacation

DH and I need a vacation desperately, but it's not going to happen for a while.
We just bought a house and there's so much we need to do to it and repairs are just so expensive!

Pembo, You're not going to like what I am about to suggest! Get yourself a tent and head for FW! I know from talking to you that camping is not your cup of tea but at FW you are not "roughing it"! They have the most wonderful comfort stations with HOT water for showers and washers and dryers! There are also all kinds of activities over there, not to mention the campfire program every night. It is so peaceful over at FW and it's only a short boat ride to MK. Whether you and DH go alone or with all the kids, you will have a wonderful time! Youngest DS and I are headed there for Spring break.

TC-I have a really good idea. Take my oldest ds with you! Then he'd get a vacation and so would I.

The tent idea just sounds AWFUL to me~we could afford to drive and stay somewhere off season, sort of, but those park tix, :0, and then the kids would want to eat

Right now I'd be happy to vacation at the Motel 6!

We just returned from our trip to WDW yesterday and I want so bad to go back. DH is telling me NO. The nerve of some people!

Eros, you spoiled my pity party. I don't have them too often, but every once in a while I just want to spend a few minutes with one.

After I'm done I think about all the things I should be and am grateful for.

SERENA, I never have "pity parties" with my friends . We just feel thankful everyday to be able to walk out of the hospital; many patients never will ............

I suppose working in a hospital, you must have to walk out of there every day feeling thankful for your good health. I could understand that.

But I think we were just joking around with the wah wah pity party stuff and we are all thankful for our good health. I even think I mentioned that in my reply. It would fall under the "all that good stuff" category.

A smidgeon of self pity, if kept in perspective, never hurt anyone.
