The Volleyball Thread

? for my vball peeps.

Does juggling tennis balls have anything to do with volleyball?

I only play beach volleyball but its for fun. I like playing doubles a lot but most of the time we play with 6 on each team. I am one of the only people that can jump(there are some people over 40) so I am always spiking.

I've never heard of it, but the only thing I can think of is that it helps hand-eye coordination.

:rotfl: Haha ok! My coach is teaching us how to juggle and I'm like WTH does this have to do with volleyball? :rotfl: But it was fun! It beats running!

Oh yeah. And if we do good in a drill, our reward is running sprints. He says running is a privelage! Ha ok. :sad2:

we only ran for the first 2 weeks of the season. Then the coach said if we win, we don't have to run. We then won 10 in a row and we got to decide what we did at practice, which was hitting lines and scrimmages.

lol. Our season just started. :)

We run 4-5 laps before practice then we run anywhere from 5 to 10 sprints.

Today practice was fun though. We did a passing drill most of the practice and we had to pass 3 balls into the cart in order for hitters to be added. Well, I got 2 of the 3 passes in the cart. I don't mean to toot my own horn but "TOOT! TOOT!" I did pretty darn good. :teeth: Sorry.......thats not nice. :rolleyes1 But anyways. Then we played PIT...a.k.a the longest minute of your life. He[our coach] continuosly(sp?) hit about 30+ volleyballs at us and we had to try and pass or get to as many as possible. When that minute was up, my legs felt like jello and I was gasping for air. But everyone was so I didn't feel too bad. lol. Then we juggled....or attempted to. And hey! No sprints! I was flippin' happy! =]

yea we do the same types of drills. We have to pass as many of the balls as we can into the cart while moving from spot to spot. Our coach makes us run "suicides."

We have to run suicides...a lot. That's what we get for losing in a scrimmage or a relay (passing, setting down the court and back with a partner). But yesterday we played "Kill The Coach" and it was the first time in 8 years that my coach was "killed". I also totally aced my coach! YAY!

but in sadder news, I didn't make captain because one of our seniors (that has never, ever, ever played before in her life) decided that it was her right as senior to be captain and had all the freshmen "write in" her name even though she wasn't on the list of choices. Half our team is freshmen, so do the math. I think it was incredibly selfish of her because it took votes away from not only me, but more deserving seniors. Luckily, coach found out about it so she put in the final word and said senior is not a captain, but coach didn't do a re-vote so all those votes were wasted. This senior also wants our ace chant to be "Ballin'!"...I am possibly the only person in the world that hates that. And it has nothing to do with serving. She got yelled at by coach, though, yesterday for discussing an ace chant when she herself can't serve the ball over the net (overhand or underhand). That made me smile.

anyway, rant over.

Ace chants are possibly the most annoying thing I've ever encountered.
But then again, I'm mostly against team spirit, and cheering.

haha, that's what we say when we get a really good block. And I like our ace chant too its like stomp clap stomp clap clap "ace". and we have a cute thing that we do before every game. we all go on the the court and stand in a circle then we all slide as if going for the ball into the circle and the captain talks about the game and then we start pounding on the ground with our hands in a pattern and we do it about 3 times and each time getting faster and louder.

as for running, on the days that we have early practice(which isn't really that early) the coach has us come in early before practice is schedualed and we run stairs and do some agilities or we go into the weight room and use that. Then to start practice the coaches have us run agilities across the gym, with the net up so we have to go under it. and then sometimes we do circits where there are stations set up around the gym like jump rope, push up, sit up, jumping back and forth over one of the lines or sideways over the lines sometimes there is like leapfrog and then aproaches and blocking on the net and we have a minute at each station then when the coach blows the whistle we have 30 secs to run around the whole court and get to the next station and it goes on until we go around once, but sometimes they make us do it twice. and sometimes they make an obsticle course around the gym and in the gym building. my favorite drill is probably when we are split up into a group of 3 so the front line and we have to stay between the net and front line and we have to get three touches and then over but we can't get it out of the line it has to stay next to the next it's alot of fun. Oh we also do alot of sprints when we do serving competitions or the coaches are just mad at us. and if we do something wrong during practice we either have to do 5 push ups or 5 crunches the entire team even if only one person did something wrong. and if the coaches are playing a scrimage with us or something and they do something wrong they do the push ups too. But I hate sliding drills because I always get rasberries on my hips, I still have a scar from last season.

Wow. I'm sorry. That sucks! You seem like you'd be a good captain. Our coach picked our captains. He picked the two girls that were on the team last year. I dont have a problem with it. The captains are very nice and encouarging!

Our ace cheer is "Awwwwwwwww Ace! *clap clap*
We decided that'd be it during our scrimmage. It was hilarious.

Hmmm. We should make a club. like we should have a:
President and a VP.

And we could make up cool names for us.

IDK. Anyone willing to give it a try?

I'd be up for a Club.

and your Ace chant is similar to the one we use, but we only clap once. The senior that came up with "Ballin'"...well, let's just say she was overruled when she found out that she'll be stuck on JV all year.

On the bright side! Guess what! Our Varsity libero...is a freshman!:scared1: But she's really, really, good. She had 100% accuracy during 20 ball (coach throws 20 balls over the net and you have to pass each one to the setter's position, but if you miss a ball [don't touch it] then you add a ball, so if you miss your first ball you have to pass a total of 21 and so on). She had 20 balls, spread out all over the court and she got every last one to the setter position, high enough for a set, too.

On the downside, our first scrimmage against another team is Thursday. and...like nobody but the 8 returning players knows rotation. Tomorrow is going to be awful.

My team is notorious for doing something after an ace, block or kill. It was more like trash talking then chanting. After every block I got I did a finger wave and said not today. plus everyone else would join in. We got some yellow cards for that but it would keep us pumped and in the game. One team we faced would sing the sportscenter theme after every point.

Yay! :) So who should be president and vp?

Whats wrong with us freshmen? :p lol. On my team there are 5 jrs, 5 sphms, and 2 frosh...me being one of them! :) Our libero is a jr. I'm an OH. The other frosh is a setter. :)

Eh. Don't worry too much bout the scrimmage. We had one Saturday and we didn't go over rotation or anything. Luckily we all knew how to run a 5-1 and a 6-2. lol

LMAO. Yellow cards aren't that bad! Its the red ones that matter! :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

Yea we only got 2 red cards, we usually toned it down after the yellow card. Last year our team was 10 juniors so everyone is expecting a lot from us this year.

Are you a senior?

I've never played in a match where a yellow or red card have been given but I've watched many. Its hilarious! And half the time its because the official made a bad call and the coach was mad.
