The Volleyball Thread

Had some decent hits in it but your setter isnt good at all. Hitters had to make ton of adjucements to his sets. Most of it was pretty average stuff. Decent but still plenty of room for improvement.

yeah wait till next season when we get another video on youtube. Couple of us are going to get scholarships for volleyball.

I've never really played like serious volleyball.
Because I played on like a junior high team, they didn't really play over competitive. So basically, you served underhand until you could get 10/10 overhand a few times.
I basically suck at serving. Anyway you slice it. Which basically makes me pretty much bad at volleyball.

with our team we have people that play well in the back and people that play well in the front and we switch them in and out, so if you aren't serving well, you just get switched out. We always have a lumbero(sp?) who serves for one or two people. and then atleast 2 other people get switched out when they get to the back with someone that plays well in the back. I play setter when I am in the front and right back when I rotate into the back, but sometimes I have someone serve for me and sometimes even play back row for me.

You mean libero?

lol. Ok. =] And they serve for people on your team? Hmmm, interesting. :upsidedow

On the teams I've played on, liberos would normally come in for middles but they would never serve. It was like, against the rules or something. So IDK if your school has different rules but thats cool. :)

Libero rules changed this year. They can now serve, but they can't hit infront of the 3 meter line. I've never had a season where a libero couldn't serve, though because I live in New Hampshire and we were the guinea pig state for that rule change.

lol Ok. It must be different rules for different states. IDK though because some HS teams, the libero can serve. But on club teams, they can't. IDK. I'm not a libero so I don't care. :p

I'm pretty sure that for this year, it's an official rule for all HS teams that the libero can serve. I don't know if that extends to clubs, though. I'd kill to play club, but the nearest one is a 2 hour drive. I love volleyball, but I won't drive 2 hours each way, every day, just for practice, not including game travel, to play. I think that's ridiculous.

In florida it didnt matter who served but that might have changed sense I stopped playing HS. The changed it from 3 set games to 5 set games so its possible.

The farthest(sp?) I've ever traveled for a volleyball tournament was a 2 and a half hour plane ride down to Orlando. :) But that was flying...driving would've easily taken 24 hours+. But the farthest(sp?) I've driven was I think 4 and a half hours and that was to Indy. And the club was only like 20 minutes from my house. :)

I know varsity is 3 of 5 and I'm like 99.9% that JV and FROSH is still 2 of 3. :)

In Illinois JV and Varsity is still 2 out of 3. We used a Libero with me and the other middle for our first game. Then the coach realized that I could play back row and the other middle couldn't. We didn't really use one after that.

Oh em gee. I am sorry for saying liberos can't serve. We had a scrimmage today(I'll tell more about it) and our coach was like "Oh yeah *inserts libero name*, go ahead and serve. They changed the rule." I'm like ! lol.

Anyways, we had a 3 hr scrimmage! It only seemed like an hour or two. I got some awesome hits in. :) I felt bad for the other team. Our varsity team was playing the other teams "varsity" team. They have 14 girls to split between JV and Varsity. They were mostly freshman and juniors. No sophomores. And maybe a senior or two. They kept switching girls back and fourth.

But yeah. :) It was fun.

My team is roughtly 21 people. Well, we found out yesterday that a grand total of...7 of us can consistently serve over the net. Overhand, that is. Not sure about underhand. so we're basically looking at a lot of work in the next few weeks.

Also- my (pre)season has been going on for a week. I'm already ineligible for my Varisty letter. Because I'm missing a week of pre season to go to WDW. It's so stupid. If the school will academically excuse me for a week to go, then the athletics department should, too.
