The View: Star Jones being released from the show?

Well, if what I've been hearing is true, then this is a major slap in the face to Star.

She's not leaving of her own accord. She's being "let go" at Rosie O'Donnell's request. Barbara Walters agreed to Rosies terms.

I guess many think this is what Star deserves. Maybe so. Personally, I thought Barbara had more class than to treat people so badly. What's next? Rosie doesn't like having to compete with another comedian, so she demands Joy be fired?

Like I said in an earlier post, they may as well just rename the show "The Rosie O'Donnell View."

Look how Barbara treated Debbie Metanopulous(sp). She just didn't like her and gave her the axe, never even let the girl say goodby, she was just gone.

I think Barbara's a big fake. The only reason they do anything is for the ratings. Maybe their ratings are down and they think this will help. Of course when they made the announcemnt it was just Rosie and Barbara on the stage, and all the other women where there and I don't recall see any group pictures with Rosie in them, so it could be true.

Star isn't my favorite, but I like her. If they just dump her for Rosie I don't know if I will watch anymore.

I don't think this was the only reason that Star is being let go. I think The View is doing a general shake-up. Recently I was sent an email about doing a survey about The View. I had a few minutes, so I filled it out. It asked a ton of questions on each guest host, why you like them, why you don't, what hosts do you like see together the most, etc. It was very comprehensive. It could be that they found that Star just wasn't the crowd top favorite. Maybe she ranked near the bottom of the hosts, so they decided to replace her. I find it hard to believe that The View would dump a top crowd-pleasing favorite because Rosie said so. Now if Rosie preferred this and Star ranked at the bottom, then I can see why they (Walters) would make the move to bring in someone else (like Gayle King).

That's right. I'd forgotten about that.

I'm still not over the way they made the "Rosie O'Donnell" announcement either. I was surprised that they'd take over the Daytime Emmy Awards show for something as self-serving that! I thought it was tacky, at best.

I agree that Barbara Walters is showing herself to be a big phony. I'm really disappointed in her.

I've been thinking about the Gayle King part of the rumours. She'd be good in Meredith's spot. Isn't she still the editor for Oprah's magazine, though?

Star isn't my favorite, but I like her. If they just dump her for Rosie I don't know if I will watch anymore.

I hadn't planned on watching since they announced that Rosie O'Donnell was joining the show, although I know that I would have had to check it out! If, however, they are just dumping Star on Rosie's say-so then I have no desire to watch. Who need to watch a show where they encourage women to treat each other so badly? I've experienced enough of that in real life at the office!

I don't watch this show because the ladies drive me crazy and I can't stand Rosie either. I really can't imagine how she'll want to be one of 5 vs having her own show.

As for Gayle King, she was a new reporter/anchor here in Hartford when I was a kid at WFSB channel 3. When Oprah got big, Gayle left. Oprah started her her own show for a while. If I remember right, Gayle got divorced and moved out west to work with Oprah. Gayle was one of our favorites and I hope she does well on this show (if it's true).

Yikes, The View is getting too complicated for me!!!

You know, what I WOULD like to see is Star on one of the evening talk shows/news programs, a la Nancy Grace. Remember, she was an attorney before she went to The View, and I think that would be a good format for her. She seems to have a pretty reasonable tone for that kind of television - maybe have her on Dan Abram's show occasionally or fill in for Nancy Grace.

I'm not a Star fan either...
With all that weight loss it looks like someone super-imposed her head onto someone else's body (check it out next time you see her)...She just doesn't look right to me...

I wathced the View the first year it was on. But I got so sick of Star Jones that I havn't watched an entire show since. I am happy to see her go. I will watch Rosie over her anyday!

DITTO DITTO!!! :thumbsup2 ME TOO!!! The VIEW now has a viewer back...I never cared for STAR at all BUT I LOVE  Rosie. I think she will be a wonderful added addition to the show. Rosie and Joy will be a blast to watch. Gayle King is very nice as well. I only have seen her on Oprah and I think she will be an interesting change as well.

STAR: Why is she so secretive about her weight loss.....hhmmm!!! :sad2:

Isn't it funny that our society has changed so much? All sorts of medical and personal issues that once were closely guarded secrets are now routinely paraded in front of an audience, for our entertainment. Nowadays if you DON'T televise your medical procedure on TV, everyone thinks something is wrong!!!

I really liked Rosie the entertainer, but if the "View" Rosie is going to be combative and political I won't watch. 11:00 in the morning is not a news hour for me - it's entertainment TV. If I want people screeching at each other, I can get my fill of that in the evening...

Not a big fan of the View. I still miss Mike & Maddy. Anyone remember them?

I sent Mrs. Jones this thread and she wanted to respond...

"I'm a LAWyer. I went to LAW school. I am smarter than YOU. Barbara didn't fire me, I'm getting me my own talk show. All me, all hour long. ALLEDGEDLY."

"And I got married and new breasts."

I don't understand the uproar over her weight loss? Who cares HOW she did it. She lost weight and is healthier for it. So, she hasn't talked about it. Big deal. Some things aren't up for public debate. I could care less if she had it removed bit by bit with a tweezers. It's none of my business. If she's happy with her health and the way she looks, then I'm happy for her. And that applies to anyone--not just celebrities.

Obviously, Rosie O'Donnell has a problem with the fact that Star hasn't talked about her method of weight loss. Can't imagine why it would be any of her concern.

Don't get me wrong...I certainly APPLAUD Star for losing all that weight...I just thought she could share her weight loss secrets with the rest of us that struggle with it DAILY. I post weekly on a THREAD here on the DisBoards "Dieting for Disney" and what a fabulous forum for ideas/suggestions/tips/info/data for all to use in their daily lives in this constant and ongoing battle to LOSE WEIGHT! I just figured with STAR's accomplishments with her weight loss she would tell us all how she achieve this feat in her life. Thats IT!

I must have missed this. What happened? What did Rosie do/say about Star's weight loss?

I don't think that Star owes anyone an explaination about anything concerning her health and weight. Now, if she has outright lied about her weight loss (saying she didn't have bypass surgery when she did), now thats another story. I'd have a problem with anyone lying. However, if all she's done is keep quiet about her health/weight loss, then thats her right.

Oh, I wasn't upset with your post! Hope mine didn't sound that way to you. I was just making a random observation.

Star's been quoted as saying she wasn't willing to share her weight loss story publicly because she didn't want to become the spokesman (even implied) of any weight loss program or procedure. According to something I read, she did say her weight loss was "jumpstarted" by a medical procedure. Most people think she had gastric bypass or something similar. Again, it's her choice as to whether or not to go public with it. Obviously, she didn't make that choice. Rosie has criticized her in the past for it.

Oh, LIZ, No problem!! :thumbsup2 I am not upset...just thought she might have been so pumped as to what exactly worked for her, she would like to share her story. :wave2:

From Rosie's blog:

star jones had weight loss surgery
she had part of her stomach bypassed
that is how she lost 1/2 herself

she refuses to say this
which is her right
but we do not have to pretend
we do not know

any fatty will tell u
it is nearly impossible to go
from where she was
to where she is
without medical intervention

She goes on to accuse Star of stating that will power and Pilates was how she lost the weight. I

've only heard Star mention that she does Pilates for exercise and that one must exercise will power. I've never heard her state that was all she did to lose weight. I have heard her say that she will not disclose what she did because she does not want to become a poster child for any particular weight loss method.

Isn't Gayle King Oprah's friend and didn't she have a show at one time??? I could be way wrong here...not sure???

Yes she had a show. It was called The Gayle King Show and Oprah produced it. It was cancelled shortly after it started. (If only they would get around to cancelling Martha Stewart now)
Now Gayle is the Editor-at-Large for Oprah's magazine.

I would think that Star has to be very careful about endorsing her weight loss method. Personally, I think she had gastric bypass surgery (thats my guess). If this is true, I would think she wouldn't want to be the spokesperson for this method as it is so very, very risky on many levels. It is probably better that she doesn't say anything at all.
