We're leaving shortly to drive down. We have a fully loaded truck, much of it is supplies. We need to board our windows and secure our house. We had originally bought and packed enough supplies, water, food, etc. for our family for five days. We've now unpacked a bunch of junk off the truck--yes it becomes junk, more on that in a moment--because we went out and bought more supplies, water, food, batteries, plastic tarps, work gloves, duct tape, and so much more. We are now coming with the thought of securing our house, as well as helping out others in need with supplies that were readily available around here and not to be found in Florida. If I could afford it I'd buy up every generator at Home Depot and give them away, because there are hundreds of them in the stores in my area.
Now, onto the "junk". This entire episode has made me stop and think about what is really important in life. And it comes down to the things you really need. Food, water, shelter. OK, I'm from NJ, so a blow dryer might be included in the list. Relax, just trying to lighten this post up, because if I have to keep a positive attitude.
At any rate, it occured to me that without dear friends around you to share your life with, having "junk" didn't really matter. So, much of the "junk" is staying in NJ, I'll get it down to FL eventually, and we're bringing along supplies that will help our friends, and even complete strangers in need get through this. This WILL pass. We WILL get through it. Please keep the people of Florida in your prayers. This ones going to be rough.
Godspeed.
Anne
