As of Monday last week, Louisiana opened to all healthcare workers, teacher and 55+ with any one or more of underlining conditions. This included:

High-risk medical conditions (aged 55 and up) now eligible in Phase 1b. Check all that apply:
o Cancer
o Chronic kidney disease
o COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
o Down Syndrome
o Heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease or cardiomyopathies o Immunocompromised state (weakened immune system) from solid organ transplant o Obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 30kg/m2 or higher but < 40kg/m2)
o Severe obesity (BMIC >40kg/m2)
o Pregnancy
o Sickle Cell Disease
o Smoking
o Type 2 diabetes mellitus

Utah is opening vaccines to anyone over 50, and anyone over 16 with a BMI over 30. We are already open to those over 16 with certain serious health conditions.

This new group will be very big.

Vaccination is rolling out pretty well in our area (Montreal, Canada.) The perks of living in a red zone. /s

DH and I are usually sailing with my in laws (seniors, more at risk) every other cruise. They got their first shot yesterday. Canada seems to have chosen to give the second shot 3 to 4 months later. Their 2nd shot will be on June 24th. Which means that they will be 100% ready if our cruise happen at the end of August. If everything goes well, DH and I should be able to receive our first shot before the end of June. I doubt we’ll have our 2nd shot before the cruise. I wonder if that will be a problem? *Fingers crossed*

The fact that Long Term Care patients were the firsts to receive 1 shot seems to pay off. The number of outbreaks is greatly reduced and when positive, they don’t get hospitalized/die anymore. This is very encouraging.

Canada now has four approved vaccines, J&J was just approved today by Health Canada. Here in BC, they say everyone over the age of 18 should have received at least one shot by mid July.

This!!! Plus, they have just announced that Pfizer will be sending us more vaccines this spring instead of this summer! :D

It looks like we can finally start to catch up with others such as the UK and the US. Now, what will this mean for that pesky 14 day quarantine we have here in Canada is anyone's guess.

I have heard that at some point, people who have received the vaccine could be able to skip the quarantine. My in laws just received their 1st shot and we told them to put their "proof of vaccine" with their passport.

I'm thinking the tests will be required for a while.

Canada is still doing relatively better than what the vaccination counts may suggest.

US seems to be at around 67K daily cases with 16% of the population vaccinated. UK is at 6.6K daily cases with 31% of the population vaccinated.

Canada should have about 6K daily cases if we consider it a tenth of the US population. Or, it should have 3.5K daily cases if we consider it about 60% of the UK population.

Yet, daily cases in Canada seem to be about 3K right now even with just a 3% vaccinated population. It suggests once the vaccination numbers do get higher, Canada might be able to open up pretty quickly!

I hope you are right.

I'm in NY and it was just announced this week that anyone fully vaccinated could travel domestically without having to quarantine or be required to show proof of 2 negative COVID tests (to test out of quarantine) within 90 days of receiving their full dose. I don't fully understand the 90 days, but I'm assuming it's due to lack of data after that time frame. Hopefully that changes.

Vaccines have been rolling out pretty smoothly here. Our closest state testing site is getting approximately 165,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson, so thousands of appointments have opened up. I signed up to receive it on Monday. It's perfect timing as we're going to WDW at the end of the month!

CDC is dropping the indoor mask requirements from its general guidance for those who have been vaccinated:

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/03/08/cdc...people-who-are-vaccinated-against-covid-.html
That's a pretty significant step for social gatherings - but also feels a bit hasty.

We don't yet have the long-term data on the vaccines (such as how long the immunity lasts). The current vaccines don't seem as effective against the variants either.

Plus, people have a tendency to stretch and bend such guidance anyways. You allow those who are vaccinated to drop their guard, and I don't know how many in a room who haven't yet been vaccinated will keep theirs on.

That being said, let's see if the CDC can walk this talk with the cruise ships as well. The rules have been more of a hammer against cruising - and, inititally, for a good reason. If the CDC feels that science is now telling them to drop restrictions indoors on land, they need to revisit their guidance for the cruise ships as well.

With the CDC dropping the need for masks indoors once vaccinated this should open up vaccinated cruises - hopefully by the fall! That is awesome. I really didn’t want to wear a mask on a cruise!

I'll just point out they are saying "fully vaccinated people can meet indoors with other fully vaccinated people" without masks. But they still recommend masks. I would think that means if you can't be sure that everyone you're going to be in contact with is, indeed, fully vaccinated everyone should be wearing masks.

"Fully vaccinated" means at least 2 weeks after second dose (or single Johnson & Johnson).

I guess the question with cruises is those younger than 16. I think the risk would be extremely low on a cruise of fully vaccinated adults, but that is not technically a gathering of fully vaccinated people.
