The Updated and All-Inclusive Costume Thread

I'm not creative and I'm looking for some ideas. I tested one of my Cinderella costumes yesterday, and it went great. My mom suggested I need to incorporate the mice somehow. I found a Suzy pin on Etsy that I've ordered, and I'm trying to figure out how to get Jacques and GusGus. Since this costume will probably be for the half, there's no way I can do Mickey ears for that long.
Granted it was for a 10k not a half but I had some “vintage” beanie babies of Gus & Jaq that I took a large safety pin to attach them at the ears and carried them lots of compliments

I just saw this picture on Facebook, and now I want to try to add clips to the Remy plushie to hold on to my son’s hair! Not sure if it’ll come through the hat though…

If you put something in the hair to make it less transparent (like a piece of foam in the same shape), then you could block the light. You'd want to back light it I think, because I'm not sure the shadow would cast in all directions as easily. I'd say it's plausible, and a pretty cool idea.

Did you ever wear one of those bicep arm bands to carry a phone? If you could tolerate it, then could you rig something up with a small plush that makes it look like they're working on your dress?

Alternatively something around the waist if it doesn't bother you too much with the same concept.

Oh that's a great idea! Once I'm done with end of school sewing for teacher gifts, I'm going to get started on costume sewing.

can anyone comment on layering htv for designs? working on some ideas for a top for the HM group costume for MW and found a cheap svg file on etsy with all of the "goodbye" flowers but I'm nervous of how 3 layers of htv would feel on a running shirt.

I don't have a sublimation printer, or this wouldn't even be a discussion. LOL
I did this! I didn't layer them I did cut outs of the words so they sat inside of each other. I had to be meticulous but it turned out great. Just use slice and then eliminate the below layers

Hi all! Just signed up for princess and it's been over 6 years since my last princess race. I've been doing wine and dine every year which is my favorite weekend, but my SIL convinced me I needed a girls race this year. Question.... I'm finally thinking about taking the Dottie plunge but I'm hesitant because I used to run in tutus back in the day and hated the bunching. What is the secret? I've seen so many Dottie's out on the road but I just don't know about the bunching. Let me know how you guys do it :)

I’ve run at least one race in a Dottie for the last 3 marathon weekends.

First off, if you decide to try one get it early enough that you can test run in it. Don’t just toss it on the morning of your race.

She’s making a few skirts with no tulle now, so there’s that. And some people just straight up cut it out. (As a side note, enchanted athletic co makes very similar skirts, without the bow, and much less stressful to try to purchase.)

I have pinned the tulle to the satin skirt, up high enough that the sparkle top layer covers it up. I’ve also made a basic circle skirt to go UNDER the tulle (and then done the same pinning method.)

But part of it also comes down to positioning and your body and running form. You can play around with how high/low you wear the skirt…I’ve found that high makes for less bunching. Also, not ordering too big a skirt makes a big difference. I have to put a medium on over my head because it won’t fit over my hips/butt; I can pull on a L normally, but after running the marathon in that size, I know it’s just too big for me.

Not using a “sticky” body lube makes a difference too. I cannot use body glide on my legs with a Dottie because the tulle wants to stick to it. 2toms works best for me.

Funny you say that I am now remembering when I wore those tutus years ago I positioned them high and just pulled them down for photos. I totally forgot.... also pinning sounds like a solid plan. Trying to decide on a base shirt color. (Also, wondering if anyone can help me with a cricut question since I have very basic knowledge for using mine.)

I messaged the etsy maker of this shirt, and I think I can send them a blank and they can print onto the shirt for me. I just need to pick a base color (I'd prefer to not have it be white) so I can source a shirt to coordinate with this skirt:

BUT, if they can't use *my* shirt (because they use a 3rd party to print them) they also sell a svg file of the same design, it's just all one color. Is there a way for me to make it with colors like they have using HTV where I don't lose my mind?)

I did this design with sportflex and my cricut. You could probably do a variation of that choosing a couple colors. I had a similar skirt and also made one on a light pink but it didn't look as cute

If the file is layered you can change colors for each layer or element, I think.

@Herding_Cats have you tried using heat transfer paper? I’ve never used it, but I think it’s a bit like sublimation. You use your printer to print the design, then cricut to cut, and then heat press on the fabric. I’ve never used it myself, but it might work out better than layering multiple layers of htv
